Travel › Re: Nigerian Students In Canada: How Do You Survive? by RAY12345(m): 8:09am On Aug 31, 2017 |
chimah3: This is just some advice for new students coming into Canada or just recently landed!
Be prudent in your spending unless your family sent you off to Canada with 30 billion.
Do not purchase things until the need arises. You might find out you do not need them after you purchase it.
The craze to spend money on fast food and new clothes will run your pocket dry if you do not bind that spirit early.
When you want to purchase an item, look for it first on kijiji.ca. There are Chances you will find someone with the same item who need it no more and wants to sell it at a cheap price.
Take the bus. Leave UBER alone! Met a Nigerian that took UBER from Toronto to Waterloo to attend orientation.( when it's not evil spirits playing with your destiny)! Please download Google Map and learn how to use the bus. They are clean, neat and safer.
Shop during off seasons. I.e. if it's winter, buy your summer clothes in advance. Vice versa! You will most likely get them at unbelievable clearance price.
Learn to cook! Always eating out can also eat deep into your budget!
Your study permit allows you to work! Please once you settle down start applying for part-time /weekend jobs if you can handle schooling and working together. It will help you pay off your debts easily! Please do not work full time or exceed the allocated 20hrs/week. You will get in trouble!
Apply for a credit card immediately and start building your Canadian credit score...it will help you if you decide to settle in Canada after your studies.
Make friends, connect and be nice to everyone! You never know who you will need at any point in time!
Make friends with other nationalities, it broadens your thinking. But know who you are and where you come from. Don't get caught up in their ways!
Be bold and smart in an out of school! Seeing a lot of whites at once can b shocking and intimidating but you need to toughen up! Truth is you are better than most of them and many of us lived better lives than them back home if not for our stupid leaders and economy that constantly frustrate our effort and drag us backwards! So in class make your point, don't let anyone intimidate you, argue your points and stand your ground. But do it POLITELY!!!
Don't dull, be sharp! Always know what your contemporaries are doing at any point in time and follow suite!
Stay safe! Stay out of trouble and bad company! It is not worth it! There are a millions way to go astray in Canada...do not fall a victim! You know all you and your family invested to get you here...the least you can do is be successful and make them and yourself proud at the end of the day!
For those that like women, please and please and please...a lot of underage girls in Canada look like grown ass women! I call these kinda of girls 'Jail-time booty' cus that is where they will send you! Do not fall into their trap! Be sure to know enough about her before you proceed!
All the same be of your best behavior and God will help all of us! As school resumes in some days time...I wish you all the best academic year and will keep reporting live from my little luxury hole!
If you run into any issues or problem, no matter your province in Canada, always know you have a Nairaland family ready to look out for you here!
#Udo!
I will also share most of my experience here : www.naijacanuck.com. Do well to check it from time to time. You might learn a thing or two! That's deep. Much thanks for the advice. Regards |

Application Approved!
Exactly 12 weeks after I submitted (I told God that 12 represents completion (12 tribes of Israel & the 12 disciples) and that my eligibility and background must be complete today, even though my eligibility was not being reviewed as at this morning)
Application Date: 5th June, 2017 Approval Date: 28th August, 2017
I sent mails to Accra Like four (4) times reminding them of my resumption date and that my degree requirements can only be fully achieved if I start my program in the fall term.
But above all it was God’s mercy that gave me this approval.
I fasted and prayed, and enjoined my fathers in the faith to remember me in prayers.
I’m still coming with a comprehensive story as I always do, especially with Rocorleone my Guy. As its being said on this forum, you can actually make the best of friends on this forum – God really made our case different.
In the meantime, attached were the documents I submitted. It was written in PanRoman hence i couldn't copy it here but all the same i think being in jpeg is even kind of better as you can easily download for easy referencing,
….they that sow in tears shall reap in Joy!!, He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him Ps 126: 5 – 6.
I sowed in tears and this was God’s personal word to me.
Thank you Jesus once again.
It ended in Praise
More TRV approvals IJN Congrats bro. indeed, the Lord is great. @vanod and @mcobex (indeed, u 've watered this forum, our God is faithful, don't lose hope), it will end in praise. |

Christopher100: Good day beautiful house with graduates full with intellectuals. I have been a silent follower. I was delayed on 17th of August due to insufficient funds. I used my uncle initially as my sponsor, but I want to reapply now though it seems my uncle is no longer interested in supporting me. So I have decided to use my immediate elder brother who has been into poultry business for the past 2years as my sponsor. He has promised to pay my first year tuition and pay extra 3m into my bank account before commencing my application. My first year tuition is 10,900CAD and my second year tuition is 6000CAD. 1) Will the VO suspect me for changing sponsor? 2) Like what kind of financial documents does he need to sample since he doesn't have CAC or salary slips. 3) He just graduated as an Agricultural Scientist 2014 and he is 2years older than myself in age. What is the advice my able friends? Hello Chris, 1. There is nothing wrong in changing of sponsor so long the said person is truly ready to sponsor you and also show commitment. 2. Land docs, investment docs, statement of account for the last 6months, his business documents (he should try and apply for them if he doesn't have), etc 3. There's nothing wrong in that so far he is financially capable of sponsoring you. Regards. |

chukzyfcbb: No its not, using the example of the person whom you just quoted. 1million naira 13% for 91days and 1million naira 17% for 182days
Investment 1: 1million naira at 13% for 91days ............ 1000000 x 13/100 = 130,000 for the year 130,000/364days = 357.14 naira per day which means you will earn 357naira in a day!!!! so 91days = 357.14 x 91 = 32,500 (Gross profit)
Investment 2: 1million at 182days for 17% .......... 1000000 x 17/100 = 170,000 for the year 170,000/364 = 467.03 naira per day which means you will earn 467naira in a day so 182days = 467 x 182 = 84,999 (Gross profit)
NOW you can see that Investment 2 is yielding more profit per day even though it spans for 182days
...,............................. Now for the purpose of compounding, if after your 91days investment matures, You take the 32,500 + 1million capital and invest it for another 91days at same rate of 13% it becomes 1,032,500 x 13/100 = 134,225 in a year 134,225/364 days = 368naira per day 368naira x 91days = 33556 33,556 is your interest for 91days + ur capital of 1,032,500 brings a GRAND TOTAL of 1,066,056
So my friend even with a compound interest 1million will yield 66k if compounded 91days twice while for 182days , 1million will yield 84k. that's about 18k difference. So u see my friend 91days is not cool if your Profit hungry, its only adviceable to use 91days if you would be needing cash soon enough!!!! Lool You've simplified it all. Thanks for this analysis. Regards |

Beyy: My story is a long one but ill summer it
1st application was made in October 2016. I was denied based on purpose of visit, current employment situation, travel history and personal and financial asset 2nd application was made in january and was denied in march for insufficient funds, travel history and family tie in canada and country of residence.
I ordered for my gcms note for tge 2nd application and the vo said most of the funds I showed were in form of asset and not easily accessible.
3rd application was made on the 5th of June, my status didn't change, I had an opportunity to go to uk on a scholarship and I sent a withdrawal of application mail to cic on the 14th of August. On the 15th of August cic requested for additional docs ie proof of prepayment of tuition...though I attached my tuition fee receipt in my application so I was wondering why they still asked for it. I however sent it to them. On the 16th of August, Accra sent a mail on the 16th in reply to my withdrawal request that a decision has been made on my application. I checked my account immediately nd saw nothing. Checked again on the 17th and even earlier today and saw nothing until around 6pm , my account was updated and it was an approval.
God is really faithful. He has given me the best birthday gift ever cos today is my birthday!!!!!
Only Jesus can do it ooooo...it can only be God cos my application was actually forgotten
Success to all TRV hopefuls. Cheers Wow, Congrats Beyy. Indeed, it can only be God. Cheers!!! |

Try to make your uncle see reasons why he has to give u all the documents you requested. I believe this will help a lot . And if truly he wants to sponsor you, let him show commitment this time around by paying your tuition for a whole year and also transferring an equivalent 10k CAD into ur account. or better still look for another sponsor that can show commitment. NB:these are just my personal thoughts. Regards. |
