Uniqueness of My Profile
-Haven't worked for about 18 months. Only been doing volunteer academic manuscript writing and related research work.
-No money in my account because I hadnt earned in a while only been spending. But my parents and husband had to make lump sum transfers of 3m and 2m respectively, so I had 5m in my account which I explained in my SOP)
-Travelling with a toddler who's a US citizen ( I was initially confused about how to include her in my application)

Now My Story
I made the decision to go back to school last year September while on maternity break. Then I had only 6 weeks to the admission application deadline. I had not gotten a supervisor yet. So, night after night (because I'm nocturnal), I went through hundreds of profiles of potential supervisors until I came across an exceptional one whose interests aligned with mine. I dug deep into his profile and research history to learn more about him. Then, I wrote a well-written, succinct email to him. In my mind, if this man replies me within two weeks then I must apply. I sent the email at 8:30am (Canadian time) so that it will be one of the first emails he reads when he logs in. He replied in less than 2 hours that he would be happy to supervise me. Then the application process began.

My program required IELTS so I had to write it but that was done after the application deadline. I was lucky to get an extension for that. I submitted the application an hour to the deadline while caring for my sick child in the hospital. I was so stressed that period so I couldn't package the application well enough, as a result, I almost didn't want to submit. The program is competitve and I also needed funding. Then I remembered that my potential supervisor would be expecting my application, so I went ahead to submit it like that. It was the only school and program I applied to so that meant all my eggs were in one basket.

Having started 2019 with a serious challenge, I got the happiest news of the year in March that my application was successful. It took me about 2 months to gather the requisite supporting documents for my application. When I got confused about how to package my application, I resorted to this Nairaland platform which had helped me in the past. I met two amazing persons here who assisted me through it all. Shout out to the Jays - @justmellow and @juleskiki. These people were very instrumental to the success of my application. They were my support system throughout the 8weeks of silence from CIC. I'm sorry for all the rants guys. Massive gratitude to you. I owe you @juleskiki a lot in addition to a good pot of soup in Ontario, just name the soup and it will be done. @Justmellow, I no wan give you an open cheque before you go name the kind things wey dem dey use bury Benin monarchs. But any which way we go still settle.

In all, my application took 8 weeks during which there was no update until the day that marked the 8th week. It was a very trying period for me. Sometimes, I had doubts about it scaling through, however, I learnt a lesson of patience. Prayers, prayers, prayers, need I say more? I even embarked on a spiritual program (July 6th - 31st) not just for this but to get to know God more. At the end of it all, I have become a better person.

A few of my success stories and testimonies:

I first applied for a study visa to Canada in April 2018 and was refused June same year with Purpose of Visit.
Second Application was in Feb 2019 and was refused the same month with Purpose of visit and travel history.

In both cases, I used the services of an agent and I applied with the M.eng (One year course based) admission letter
Shortly before my second application, I contacted Frankrobbn to assist proofread my SOP. Despite his kind assistance then with every effort put in place, I was still delayed. Then after my second refusal, I contacted Bracha who encouraged me not to give up and assisted with part of my SOP correction.

Sometimes in Jan this year, I had thought of switching from the Meng to Msc but getting supervisor was the issue. After a series of emails with usual "no funding, no space" responses, God finally came through for me and that marks the turning point in my Canada journey. I got a Prof willing to supervise me and provided the Stipend that fully covers my study around April and then I decided to reapply for the 3rd time in May 2019.

This time around,Qudkom came to my rescue. We talk extensively, exchange emails and I had to even travel to a neighboring city to meet this wonderful and kind guy that I didn't know from anywhere just to ensure I get it right this time. Anyway, no more agent as I am prepared to take all the advice of the gurus to do it by myself.

Few days to my submission date, I had to literally go through all of Franks past post to ensure all my T's have been crossed and I's dotted.

My special appreciation thus goes to Frankrobbn, Bracha and Qudkom who positively influenced my application in a way or the other
Every other guru: Makano, Justmellow and so many Monikers I may not mention. God bless your selfless efforts on this thread.

I need to also mention that I am advanced in age and I have never traveled outside Nigeria before and I also graduated university in 2006 with about 11 years working experience. Married with 2 kids but I decided to apply alone first.
This is to encourage someone not to really give up.

Long Post Alert....
Wow, I crafted this testimony a long time ago to inspire someone.
My admission process was not an easy one, but when it was time God showed up. I applied to 2 schools late last year against fall 2019. By March 2019 they both sent me a refusal letter. I felt really bad, after the whole struggle of getting a supervisor and all. So I started looking for another supervisor, luckily one got back to me and after the interview and all. He offered me a spot in his lab. And in less than 3 weeks I was admitted with full funding.

Please what's the full meaning of sop and loe and what's the difference

sop - Statement of purose.
loe - Letter of explanation.

Basically, sop is where you talk about your study plan while loe is used for addressing issues like previous refusals, lump sum in an account, etc

LagosNIV:

How to Apply for a Nonimmigrant Visa
Step 1
For Nonimmigrant Visa applicants:

Determine your visa type by reading Common Nonimmigrant Visas. Each visa type explains the qualifications and application items. Choose the visa type that applies to your situation.

Be sure to also review the Visa Waiver Program. If your country participates in the Visa Waiver Program, you do not need to apply for a visa if you are traveling for business or pleasure and will only be staying in the United States for 90 days or less.

Step 2
Once you have determined the correct visa type, you must pay the visa fee. The visa fee page lists the visa types and correlating visa fee in US dollars and native currency.

To pay your visa fee, read the Bank and Payment Options page. This page explains how to make your visa fee payment. You must keep your receipt number to book your visa appointment.

Step 3
The next step is to complete the DS-160 form. Be sure to read the Guidelines for Completing the DS-160 Form carefully. All information must be correct and accurate. Once the form is submitted, you cannot make any changes. If you need assistance, please consult an immigration lawyer or translator. The call center cannot help you complete your DS-160. You will need your DS-160 number to book your appointment.

Step 4
You are almost ready to schedule your visa appointment!

Now you will need to create a profile in our system. Follow this link and click on New User.

Complete all fields and create a password. Once you are in the system, you will see your dashboard.
On the left-hand side, click on Schedule Appointment.

This will start the process for scheduling your appointment. For each applicant being scheduled you will need:

The applicant's passport number
The receipt number from GT Bank receipt. (Click here if you need help finding this number.)
The ten (10) digit barcode number from the applicant's DS-160 confirmation page
As you go through the process you will be able to select your visa type, enter personal data, add dependents, select your document delivery location, confirm visa payment and finally, schedule your appointment.

Step 5
Visit the U.S. Embassy on the date and time of your visa interview. Be sure to check the Schedule My Appointment page for the necessary documentation needed for your appointment.

Refer to this site for additional instructions on how to apply for an nonimmigrant visa: http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/ng-niv-visaapply.asp

Mr man stop encouraging people to prepay school because it harms the applicant more with no benefit from it and at the end if refuses Visa, getting refund has prove hectic and student will have to lose a huge part of the his/her hard earned money or even all the money.

.

Hello Chief, how did u arrive at that conclusion @bolded? in my opinion, that's not true. Different schools with different refund policy. And I'm yet to see one that has proved to be hectic in a case of visa refusal. You may want to list out the schools. By just sending a mail to your school stating that visa was refused and attaching the refusal document, you will get the refund processed within days. and it's not in all schools you will lose part of your money.

cheers!!!

I have a Stanbic MMF account and Axamansard.
To be sincere, I'm enjoying Axamansard more.

*I did everything online; opening account, submitting my documents and funding my account. They also have an app.

*I've made withdrawals and I get them before 24hours.
My first withdrawal dropped in my account on the same day.
My last withdrawal request was at night, I got the money after close of work the next day
They treat withdrawal requests that come in after 1:30pm the next day

*They respond promptly to emails and I've even requested a call back, which they did. Infact, my line didn't go through so they sent an email requesting for alternate number to reach me on.

The only but so far is that when I try to top up my account through the app, they include some transaction charges. To avoid this, I use their web page, I discovered its free from the webpage .

If you have a Stanbic IBTC bank account and you do the transfer from there it is free... Because that account is a Stanbic account. Do not forget that after the transfer you will still need to fill a form in that bank that would be sent to Stanbic asset management to notify them of you deposit.
That's like a long process tho unlike the quickteller route.

Hi nairalanders...
My first application was on April 17th and was through an agent in Lagos. After my first application, I joined nairaland and discovered the packaging was poor.
Went through some threads and was enlightened on how to tackle common reasons for refusals.
Decided to re- apply by myself.
Reapplied in June at vfs Abuja, I live in Lagos tho.
Program: PGD
Course : RN- critical care nursing , Niagara college
Was skeptical about reapplying because it's a PGD. After I got my refusal, I didn't bother to order for notes cause I felt I couldn't wait for so long before reapplying.

I used the ideas from this thread and previous ones and
The difference in my second from first application were:
A well detailed, real and sincere SOP, made sure I proved I am taking a step of academic progression, made sure I explained why I want the course, how I will survive with funding, my intentions to return to manage my mother's business.
My personal bank statement showing my savings and a deposit of 10k dollars equivalent transferred to my account.
Pay slips - was payed monthly by a relative.
Letter of introduction - I graduated last year and was working voluntarily as a nurse for 6 months.
Sponsorship letter explaining how the funds have been allocated for my education and survival. Also explains how my sponsor will survive while I am away.
Letter or clarification
Reference letter from bank
Sponsor bank statement
Sponsorship letter
Land document or sponsor
Ielts result
Bsc certificate
transcript
Offer letter
Receipt of 1st term fees payment.
Needed to prove I am a real student.

Prayers and total trust in God's timing

I pray for more trv approvals in Jesus name.
Congrats in advance to the trv hopefuls.

congrats

Looking at the profiles of people getting approved without SOP, at least two or more of the following are common.

- First Class

We all know the grounds of Visa application refusal. The four above arguably answers ALL the conditions.

If you are unsure of your case, don’t play yourself. Please add whatever you think you need to to have a very strong case.

You are so on point.

I had this same issue before. but I got a way out of it.
first, the mobile app and the web are supposed to use thesame password but here is the trick...the password on the web works on the mobile but the password on the mobile doesn't work on the web. cos even after your many logins into the app, when you use the mobile it will ask you to reset password as if it's your first time(it's your first time on the web sha)

So just change password as the web is requesting from you...then that same new password works on the app

Much thanks @eezeribe and @kelvyn7

There are some methods :

(1)You can know by logging into your account, via the website (not the app).
Then check your subscription column, if you only have new subscription or top up subscription(s) under the column, it means your interests are not compounding.
But if part of your daily interests are added under your subscription column(with specific dates), it means you are on compounding.

(2)check your net inflow, if the amount you see is only the amount you used to open the mutual fund or the total of all your top ups plus initial capital, it means you are not on compounding.
But if your net inflow is higher than your initial capital plus all your top ups, it means you are on compounding.

If after all you discover you are not on compounding or this method doesn't seem clear to you, just apply for a dividend mandate modification via email or phone, and request for your interests to be reinvested.

Helo boss, i can login without hassle to my SIMMF mobile app but whenever i try to login online, https://www.stanbicibtcfundsmanagement.com/Ssignon, it keeps denying me access, it keeps telling me to change my password, even after inputting a new password of just digits, i keep getting 'The New Password (Must be Number and not less than 7 digits) field is required'.

please what can be the issue?

Hello boss, sorry for the refusal. Since you have 3years experience in IT field, I think you should explore the express entry route.

Ok no wahala, bless you! No I am not in Canny. I am on the mountains of Plateau, Nigeria and enjoying Nigeria tremendously after 20 years of sojourning abroad since my my hay days of humble beginnings. But for the corruption and nepotism and tribalism, Nigeria would be the greatest country in the world. You never understand or appreciate what a great country Nigeria till you live abroad and come back here. You would be highly respected for one. Even all the girls suddenly want you, lol. I urge everyone going to study abroad to please do themselves a favor and come back and help develop our great nation Nigeria. I will be in Canny Sept 2018. Hope we all make it IJN.

Baba Jay, I trust u die say if u do Ielts writing, you go get 9.0/9.0. This essay na die for the short question "Are u presently in Canny.?". Lolxx. God bless for rendering a selfless service on this platform.
