Ex-aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to reports of a Yoruba Oba, the Oluwo of Iwoland converting to an 'Emir'.

Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo, recently declared himself the first and only 'Emir of Yorubaland', adding that the reason for his decision was that traditional rulers or 'Obas' in the south-west were always fighting with each other.

The development has not gone down well with a lot of stakeholders in the region who have condemned the move.

Pls what is the fuss about the Emir's decision? I call him Emir because he is already one. So anyone who is angry should take whatever title he or she likes.
My take is that history has been made.The Emir of Oluwo changed his title voluntarily without compulsion.Same thing happened with Afonja when he collaborated with the Fulani and carved Ilorin out.So who ever is fighting for Ilorin as a Yoruba land should get set to fight d Oluwo as well. But wait.The Oluwo is a sharp man.He has realized that the Oni of Ife whose office was a mere herbalist has been elevated evn above that of the paramount Yoruba ruler the Alafin of Oyo.The Oni's rascality is only being supported by Yoruba politician to the disdain of the Alafin and Oba of Lagos and the Alake. While Awo in his mind thought the civil war was an opportunity to give his yoruba people and advantage over the igbos, never in his mind would he have imagined that the igbos were going stage a miraculous recovery...he did all for power and hoping he would be president, but ended up committing suicide to avoid execution for treason...benjamin Adekunle came back to regret the war and died a wretched man. Today, the once self acclaimed sophisticated region is now hotbed for ritualism, lazy and jobless youths,gambling, scam, failing indicies of all human development index falling behind the SE & SS, poverty, low standards of living, street begging and political thuggery. Today igbos can be said to be the most progressive Nigerians and the wheel of economic and social development in Nigeria.while the east is on the rise, the regions that partook in the genocide against them are either stagnant, declining, experiencing mass hunger, mass poverty or are in crisis.

As their properties were seized during the civil war, today they have not only bought them back, they have 60% to 75% of all the prime and choice properties in major cities like Abuja and Lagos...these is places have become their inheritance and will forever be. And never again will our properties be stolen from us again without a consequence.

I also learned from that thread that what the SW had was the University College Ibadan, which was a college of the University of London. It emerged that UNN is actually the first uni in Nigeria to my greatest Surprise. Before now, all articles and history revisionists have always said UI is the first BUT the UI as we know it is actually the second not first.

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), has urged the Federal Government to renegotiate trade conditions that will impede economic growth in its review of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement.

The MAN President, Dr Frank Jacob, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos.

According to him, MAN is apprehensive that the Rules of Origin in the AfCFTA cannot be adequately enforced to guard against influx of European Union (EU) goods into the Nigerian market.

The Rules of origin are used to determine the country of origin of a product for purposes of international trade.

NAN reports that the AfCFTA is part of Africa’s plan to promote Intra and Inter-regional trade, economic cooperation and partnership on the continent by 2063.

AfCFTA seeks to make Africa the largest free trade area, improve its economies and strengthen its position in global trade.

“We are afraid that the Rules of Origin cannot be adequately enforced because goods from the EU can find their way into one of the African countries that have bilateral agreement with the EU.

“When the goods get into the African country, they can repackage them, change the label from Made in Europe to that of the African country.

“That same goods will surely find its way to Nigeria which is the main target market for the EU,” Jacob said.

Jacob also noted that the market access of the agreement was a concern to manufacturers, as it leaves low protection to locally produced goods.

“The agreement says that 90 per cent of the tariff plan would be liberalised, leaving only 10 per cent to protect manufacturers, and that 10 per cent is too low.

“That means the rest of the 90 per cent is open, duty free, people can import.

“What we are saying is that the 10 per cent is too small, even at the current Common External Tariff (CET) regime, we enjoy more than 10 per cent.

“How can they now expect us to accept only 10 per cent as the only protected tariff line. That is an area that is of great concern to us,” Jacob said.

He noted that the AfCFTA would impede the growth of the manufacturing sector, lead to dearth of many businesses, increase the country’s unemployment rate, and incapacitate local technological advancement.

The MAN boss commended President Muhammadu Buhari for canceling his scheduled trip to Kigali, Rwanda, to sign the framework agreement for establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Buhari on March 18, canceled his scheduled visit to Rwanda to attend an Extra-Ordinary Summit of the African Union on March 21.

The President was to sign the framework agreement for establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area during the Summit that would host leaders of African countries.

According to a statement from the Presidency, the trip was canceled to allow for more consultations with stakeholders in Nigeria over the trade agreement.

It would be recalled that the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Organised Private Sector (OPS) had kicked against AfCFTA.

“He ordered the Inspector-General to relocate to Benue State in January. He admitted in March that he did not know the order was flouted. Does the Inspector General of Police brief the President? Will the President fire him? Is it wise for Nigerians to count on this government for their security? “In affront to his person and office, his order was flouted, there were killings in Plateau State during his visit, and more killings in Taraba, Benue and Kogi states. Boko Haram, said by the President’s spokesmen to be degraded and technically defeated, abducted 110 schoolgirls in Yobe State. Are the service chiefs still taking orders? Is the President still in control of security? “Instead of declaring the murderous herdsmen a terrorist organisation, the President offers pious exhortation to their victims to love their neighbours. The senator himself has not told Nigerians if he too had been receiving this huge amount. “A senator should be able to do his work with half that amount, even with less. So, one may want to divide what Nigeria spends annually on her senators by two. The result would be 9, 299, 880, 000 naira. If that were divided by the number of universities in this country which is 175, the result would be 53, 142, 171 naira. Give that to each university for its library. It will drastically improve the quality of education in this country. “But the scandal is not just the amount we spend on our senators. Nigeria spends so much on government. Yet, there is little or no governance. We spend so much maintaining the President, 36 Governors, close to 50 Ministers, members of a bicameral National Assembly, and members of 36 state houses of assembly, advisers and special advisers, assistants and senior personal assistants. It is a security risk to spend so much on political office holders that Nigeria does not need while our education sector is in decay. “Education is the acquisition of wealth for human development, the assurance of prosperity and security in the land. Half of the huge amount of money devoted to servicing political office holders in Nigeria can be spent on education. That will vastly improve our prospects for prosperity and security. To do otherwise is to sentence this country to a future of unending poverty and insecurity. That Nigeria invests more in her recycled politicians than in her youths is a breach of security that mortgages her future. “But education is not the only neglected sector in this country. Uninterrupted electricity remains a fleeting illusion. That certainly affects security. It affects the economy too. Without electricity, this country cannot grow her economy. Nigerians hear of economic recovery. ‘’But it is not felt in their pockets. Many are dying of hunger. Salaries are not paid. School fees cannot be paid. Parents withdraw children from school. Meanwhile, Nigeria’s politicians, paid huge sums of money, throw lavish wedding parties, at a time of heightened insecurity, and the President and Vice President lead the guests. “Lust for perks of office has made elections into public offices in Nigeria a security concern. Machiavellian politics has become the most lucrative business. Nigerians must reflect on these questions before voting next year: when shall we have a government and Commander-in-Chief that truly protect us? ‘’Will there ever be conversion of hearts among Nigeria’s politicians? When will Nigerian political office holders begin to serve those whose votes put them in office? Can it be said that this narrative of negligence, incompetence, greed and insecurity is a prelude to 2019? We are watching and waiting.’’

Former Minister of Information, Prince Tony Momoh, has wondered why Nigerians don’t address the Igbos as armed robbers, Yorubas as 419ers but paint Fulanis as killers. Momoh further claimed that armed herdsmen that were killing and maiming Nigerians were not from the country.

The former Minister warned against attributing killings to Fulani herdsmen, adding that the whole thing had been highly politicised. In an interview with Sun News, Momoh claimed that the killings were being perpetrated by criminals from Mali and Libya and not Fulani herdsmen.

In his words;

“Killings are activities that the government did not envisage but the killings are a challenge to everybody. So, everybody should be blamed for the killings.

“Communication resolves everything. How much communication is there? And if there are no instruments of communicating, we must establish them rather than buying the weapons of war. "But let me tell you and I am saying it with all sense of responsibility. Many people are playing politics with the killings. They are initiating a particular pattern of belief, which would undermine the credibility of their group in future.

“We had the Biafran war in 1967 -1970 and the South East held Nigeria to a standstill before it ended. So, nobody could undermine the Nigerian/Biafran war. Now, the issue of militancy confronted this country and reduced our oil production to less than one million barrels per day.

“Nobody can undermine the works the militants did in the Niger Delta. The National Democratic Coalition(NADECO) confronted Nigeria peacefully after the annulment of the 1993 election and in spite of what you may think, there was no coup in Nigeria that was resisted that ever succeeded.

“The 1993 annulment of the election of MKO Abiola was resisted through the activities of NADECO and so on and so forth, and that was how the compromises of 1999 brought in former President Olusegun Obasanjo from the South West zone of the country.

“From what I said now, you cannot undermine the Niger Delta, you cannot undermine the Igbo and you cannot undermine the Yoruba. And when the problem of the Fulani caliphate was there, they discovered that they could not undermine the Kanuri and the Tivs.

“But do you know what we are doing now because of politics? Anything that happens now, we say it is the Fulani herdsmen whereas it is since the collapse of the Libyan army and the problem in Mali that caused the free flow of weapons into Nigeria especially the activities of Boko Haram.

“And instead of looking at the challenges confronting Nigeria, we are saying that it is the herdsmen that are doing it. Cattle rustlers also seize the cattle and kill the herdsmen which is another issue confronting Nigeria but we in Nigeria because of politics always say killings are by the Fulani herdsmen.

“Do you know that what Othman Dan Fodio could not achieve when he was quoted as having said that he would dip the Quoran in the sea is being achieved through stupid politicking by saying that everything that happens in Nigeria is by the Fulani herdsmen?

“Anywhere you go to, people would say we cannot go to farm because of the Fulani herdsmen. This is when as a matter of fact, the Fulani herdsmen are in more danger than any other Nigerian. Do we talk of Igbo armed robbers?

“Do we talk of Yoruba 419ers and so on? We talk of all these as crimes and we should be talking of the killings as also a crime.

“But because of politics, we are going into areas to make our children believe that the fear of Fulani herdsmen is the beginning of wisdom.

“So, what Othman Dan Fodio could not achieve when he was alive in Nigeria, we are achieving it through communication and making our own children afraid of the Fulani. Remember that the Fulani are in the minority in this country.

“Can you see the way we are moving in the way of deforestation and who would pay for it; our children. We must have the right communication. So, I want to say that criminals do the killings and we must all come together to fight it.”

Suffice it to say, some people don't deserve to be allowed to talk in the public because when hear their utterances, you can actually feel your IQ dropping. The first International Women’s Day in 1911 amassed more than one million people across Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland for women’s suffrage and labour rights.

According to UN Women, in its early years, the Day became a mechanism to protest World War I.


Most notably, in Russia, a large women-led demonstration breaks out demanding “bread and peace!” and four days later, the Czar abdicated.

Now a Russian national holiday, the Day is what some historians believe ignited the Russian Revolution.

Similarly, in 1920s in Egypt, a first Doctors stand up against female genital mutilation (FGM) started, UN Women recalled.

In the first known campaign of its kind, the Egyptian Society of Physicians went against tradition by declaring the negative health effects of FGM, UN Women said.

A practice that at least 200 million women and girls alive today have undergone, it took until the late 20th Century before the term FGM was globally adopted and the practice explicitly classified as a form of violence, it noted.

“Today, the UN, grassroots women’s movements, civil society and others are working together to put an end to the practice, the UN women’s agency said.

Yes, this recognition is long over due,almost 90years after.The Women braced the odds, fought death and the whitemen to change the course of tyrany and dictatorship agaisnt humanity.The women might had come from a black race and background with no western knowldege but they had their stateless societies which were more preferable to any.There great lesson to be lean from that struggle.The struggle gave the people recognition and reorganistion of their political structure.While it led to the failure and total collapse of the warrant chief and colonial corruption which were not resisted in the North and West,its failure in the East brought disrepute on Lugard's personaloty and made him hate the igbos and ppl from those areas.It was as a result of the roit that new policies were introduced by the colonial secretary directing that intelligence reports be sent to the colonial Secretary from every communities.The struggle brought the first modern struggle and demand for reform and restructing and it was achieved.So Aba town,the whole of Ngwa land, Ibibio land, up to present day Oloko, to Bayelsa, Rivers state, Calabar and the whole of Akwa Ibom should know that hostry has always becon on them to lead the struggle for the emancipation of the ppl.We should see more from them as they speak and fight for the restructuring of Nigeria.Even where others said no they must not give up.
