That is 50 dollars a month or One dollar, 70 cents a day to lay your life down against terrorists the State has no appetite to tackle.... and yet even this crumb is eaten up by corrupt vermin. Nigerians are either the most patient or mist ignorant species on earth. Do not be surprised that the state will come after the complainants led by their able commanders. A democracy that cannot change a nation or even move it an inch in the right direction is in itself useless and unfit for purpose. |
Supremos:Nigerians love to lament after the fact but can never get things done in the heat of the moment. We were all here (except those just graduating from kindergarten and earning their first phones) when this issue arose in 2015 and the talk then was that 'it doesn't matter', and the fans were vocal in saying the ministerial post was an administrative one and I quote, 'did not require the ability (know how) to carry a shovel'. They said it was Mr. President's right to appoint whomsoever he wanted. And then the national assembly, the final safety feature, the airbag of good governance was turned off courtesy of yes men led by an agama lizard. Shey 'cooperation' is synonymous with success abi? We said it all back then. A nation that does not have a thriving democracy where wide, dissenting views are not regarded with cautionary values will always stumble from one pit to the other. The state of Nigeria reflects our values and our knowledge. Both sub par. |
The failure of the criminal justice system, period. When crime cannot be effectively tackled and wrongdoers punished there is no deterrent to the threat to life and property. People will resort to self help. Fencing is self help. |
PHIPEX:Data, details and the manipulation of facts is what differentiates speculation and gambling from from business and enterprise. The way Nigerians acquire their leaders without regard to numbers and simple arithmentic is why we are here. The attempt to govern without planning around facts is why we will remain here. Our democracy is like an explorer without a map, our hope of good governance is like a business man who doesn't understand basic math. |
Well the good thing about this crises is that this forum will gradually return to some sense of sanity when the madmen have been weeded out by the harsh economy. A day is coming when real issues will be discussed here. Suffering is the Panadol for the sickness of sentiment. |
princeade86:The black market is bigger than the Nigerian government. The CBN became a junior partner, a minority player in the forex market when it became a political arm of various Executives in government and lost its credibility and trust which is the cornerstone of every bank. Central or reserve banks the world over are independently minded, independenly acting institutions. They are regulators, not players. They are justices of the economy, not rice farmers or distributors of fertilizer. The CBN has been in cahoots with government for decades in ruining the economy, promoting multiple exchange rates, in round tripping, in cronyism around the supply of dollars to businesses, all sorts of corrupt practices while the so called black market has been free, objective, steady and impartial. All characteristics of a market leader. Of course the black market will become the defacto institution of currency trading. The real CBN. |
Iamcrazy:How do you know they have no valid reason for increasing their prices. Is there any individual, corporate organisation or enterprise in Nigeria today that has NO VALID REASON to increase prices of goods and services offered? Tell me one, ANY? Except they have found an entirely new product or offering an entirely new service at an introductory cost. Or dramatically increasing sales or productivity which is hardly the case in this economy where sales and consumption is slowing down across board. Will you take a pay or salary increase, YES or NO. If yes, where will the money come from? |
Mccullum:Oga, be informed. it is called inflation and bot some phantom 'societal' hodgepodge. And what you see today is the reason why governments the world over fear it even more than insurrection and fight it bitterly with every resource they have at their disposal. All except ours that rather play politics with everything and heap incompetence on top of ignorance. I said it from Day 1 of subsidy and energy subsidy removals, (my posts on this are there to see) that the government should act swiftly before the price rises move from those two issues, those two cost centers to totally engulf the economy and send the purchasing power of the average Nigerian into a vicious tailspin. Now sit back and admit that those who are in charge, those you voted in are not as bright as you guys have been peddling for ages. |
Well since they cannot compel government to do the right thing and repair the economy then they will lose their humanity. Violence will always be the preserve of the ignorant. |
Yes and no. Yes, the simple arithmetic says the combined votes of the PDP and the LP outstrips that of the APC. The APC is running with an unpopular vote and that is why it is flying against so much public headwind. If the opposition parties were better structured and more organised along ideological lines it will have made governance for the ruling party next to impossible. No, the simple fact is that before the candidature of the Mr. Obi voter intent to participate was at an all time low and the emergence of the LP candidate reversed that with new registrations running into millions across board' It is not clear how this demographic will have affected the final outcome if the Labour Party and its candidate did not intend to contest. |
Dikastan:Really?.... ![]() Minimum wage should be tax free. That is revolting. |
macfish101:Looking steady, assured and the top dog between the sticks. Doesn't wander around like Ramsdale. |
The Premiership table doesn't lie. Chelsea remains a bottom half team. This team cannot beat half the teams in this league on a good day. Poch has his work cut out to claim a Euro spot by May next year. Wish him the best of luck. |
Next time leave Jacksons to the entertainment industry and if they say they perform at a club, please ask what kind of club. |
See Michael Jackson ... ... kai |
Really, really poor, Kai ... |
Chelsea is really poor. These guys are not playing a fraction of what was paid for them. |
Make dem do quick make I go watch the 'Derbi de Milano'.... ![]() City unfortunately has this league in the bag. |
Dezerbi is coming for Ten Haag's job. One back for the Reds. |
Chai, Brighton..... 3-0 |
Ha....Fati in. Where Brighton see did kin player buy. Problem don become wahala for the 'devil'. |
Kyase:One thing I have noticed though. Many big names that don't seem entirely motivated, sold out to the DNA of the club or are we all using the Alex Ferguson era to weigh every United team ever since? |
Kyase:Hmmm.....okay but this team is still way below where it should be. Amongst the former title winners since the Premiership started, United sits just above Chelsea and Leicester City in returning to the top. Far from the commanding, dominating team it used to be. |
Can anyone tell me what exactly is the problem of Manchester United. The club appears not to have any solution to one mediocre performance after another. Like that colleague of yours in the office always off duty with ailments that no doctor seems able to cure. |
Liverpool appears fast asleep. The international break affects teams in different ways and when you have a squad brimming with internationals from all corners of the earth you get pierced by the other edge of the sword. |
grandstar:May we know these plans please. And who exactly is making them so that the citizens of that place know who to hold accountable. Details, details, details.... not speculation. |
LOVEALAIGBO:At bolded, I know quite a few very experienced officers...who have been very active in various theatres and had a few years to go.... unfortunately lost to politics and the failed structure of the country that fights institutions and best practices. But we will continue to get the short end of the stick until we suffer enough to demand for the kind of restructuring of the country that will place competence ABOVE EVERY OTHER consideration. |
As often as these things happen... IT IS NOT BY THE COMPETENCE THAT ONE STARTS....BUT BY THE INTEGRITY BY WHICH ONE ENDS. A system, an environment, an envelope that makes leaders of important places and people almost, always end in ignomy should be the concern of all. It is to me. Not this. |
The Nigeria state, both government and the people should adopt a mentality of a nation under international sanctions to find our feet and make the sacrifices of subsidy (currency and energy) removals anchor this country and save it from going over the cliff. We must find a way to wean ourselves off imports and start 'making things'. Only then will inflation make a real retreat and the naira direction begin to reverse. A country like Iran has been under sanctions for a generation yet has not gone bankrupt. They may not be 'living the life' but there is not doubt they are the most advanced nation in the middle east based on self effort and resourcefulness alone, in a region renowned for foreign domination in every aspect of productivity. I am certain the average Iranian does not know or care to know what the exchange rate of the local currency is to the dollar. We can put ourselves in this same survival mode if we can muster the will. |
Mr. Umahi. Construction is one of the three bricks and mortar sectors that can reflate the economy by creating productive jobs. It is used in times of economic depression the world over to spur growth. But this our model where resources are channeled to a few enterprises, mainly foreign owned and managed ones to do work at questionable, clandestine cost will not help this country. At the very least you should have a program of mass engagement of individuals, co-operatives and small enterprises to handle the very basic aspects of various engineering works up and down the value chain. As a matter of fact the government you serve should place a direct demand on your Ministry to create opportunities for youth engagement. skills acquisition/transfer and empowerment for enterprise that will outlast every single project undertaken. Left to me the only 'Contractors' I will engage are those who are capitalized enough to turnkey (which means only for economically viable projects) or for highly specialized projects with competencies not presently domiciled in Nigeria. All social projects of low complexity should be handled by direct labour under license. Every youth in Nigeria with a humble educational background or non self supporting skill-sets should be physically involved in construction, mining and agriculture simultaneously (if possible) as a government policy. |
Kukutente23:Quite agree. That is why a smaller government was an admirable selling point of the Labour Party which I totally agree with. We are spending too much as if we have not 'been retrenched'. I cannot see from which Book of Economics the past (and looking like the present) government studied the situation. The first thing a man who has lost his job does is to fire his driver, chef and end his country club subscription. He doesn't take loans to keep up with the Joneses'. |
Revolution2022:Like it is fixed every year. Lagos needs a new one. |
