zed7:Honestly, court cases, media trials, etc are indeed tiring and deeply distracting but like I've said before, that is what democracy brings to the table, the freedom to hold accountable and the dishing out of resistance to perceived injustices. If this will make our institutions sit up and be diligent in superintending over their responsibilities of vetting future candidates, good. If this will cause dodgy candidates to think twice about contesting for public offices in future, good. So let the music play on. You only need to be in western democracies to know this is child's play. Their leaders go through far worse. It purges the system. |
rejoice4eva:Substitute substances, extracts and synthetics can be found for these. The downside of Coca in unparalleled. |
Can't the scientists of the world come together to genetically destroy this crop? There are many plant species that have become extinct due to man's activities. The Coca and Poppy can be extinguished from the earth. |
007kjb:Indeed. So much fanfare and back slapping when those stories were floated. I guess the devil was in the details. When I was young horses, cats and dogs could speak perfectly.... on telly that is, to my delight and entertainment. These days I guess talking cats and dogs is mere fantasy and whenever I get to see one I certainly will flee in terror. Folks, only a qualitative, mature, knowledgeable citizenry will be exposed to the reality of life and living in this country and by that maturity be able to progress. When a people think and act like children, all their leaders will show them are cartoons and read them bedtime stories. |
One fire somewhere and the whole country goes dark.... Not a great CV before foreign investors. |
Who has watched the Martin Scorsese film, 'Gangs of New York'. describing the socio-cultural upheavals in the north-east America round about the 1860's. This is exactly what is happening to much of Nigeria today. Such chaos, barbarity, institutional failure and an overwhelming air of misery where life is 'nasty, brutish and short'. I trust that we are no less than 160 years from where developed societies are today. |
Gentlelox:Money saved is money not borrowed. If not the debt will probably have crashed past the 100 trillion mark. You fail to remember that debt servicing is eating both the fruit and the seed of this country. The situation is so vicious that even if government miraculously discovers a source of revenue it will be heavily tempted to borrow against that. Just as a man who has remained unemployed for years and racked in debts suddenly finds a job. His borrowing is likely to rise not fall in the short term. That daddy who has been struggling, hassling and borrowing to raise his kids will not automatically become rich just because the kids are grown and left the coop. Nigeria remains an unproductive country. We are on the ropes, like seriously. |
adenigga:In the future when Nigerians hear the word 'borrow' instead of stupidly comparing themselves to nations that are productive and structured, they will take to their heels and head to the hills. Dangote borrowing up to 50 percent of his assets is not the same thing as jobless Dankali borrowing up to 5 percent of his. There is just no means to pay back and virtually no assets to sell. It is clear why government is not able to fully fulfill the requests of the NLC including the sketchy palliatives distributed so far, the money isn't just there. Transparency here would have sufficed but politics in protecting the past regime has trumped this and hidden the immense calamity they brought upon this country. Just so sorry for this government and her hapless, largely uninformed citizens. If only they knew back then. |
VeeVeeMyLuv:Indeed. And as I have been saying for years. The health of the aviation sector is incumbent on the viability of the middle class. It is the middle class that travels not the rich or the poor. That middle class was more or less lost in the 80' and ever since the aviation industry has become a meat grinder, chopping up and spitting out one brand after the other in short order including the national carrier and all attempts at reviving it. It is simply the case of an economic structure that is not fit to support aviation as the causative and not the symptoms of unviable airports the man talks about. |
How are state owned airports putting a financial burden on the Federal government specifically FAAN which is essentially a service provider and NACA which is a regulator. FAAN has no business at state airports. These airports should have their own gear to handle their business at their own costs. As for the regulator it is just a matter of sending them a bill for supervising traffic and airlines. Transportation is a business where every cost factor should be met with preset payment plans leaving no ambiguity whatsoever. If a state wants an international airport or upgrade to international status then it must be prepared to pay the customs, immigration, ndlea, and other agencies for their services or they will not get certification, period. That is the way it should work. The Nigeria state is a lazy thinking one. The present structure of the country does not lend a hand to its development. At this rate when will we get to the point where companies and private individuals will own airfields and airstrips respectively. |
100 days after, the mass grave of maladministration and failed governance is being uncovered. Every week another lurid corpse of corruption is exhumed. Every week another decaying, crumbling structure of state is exposed. It was a massacre, plain and simple. That is President Buhari's legacy. |
Shocked to see this. Really don't know whether I can use milk out of a 'bag'.... and store over 6 months..... Looks more like an arrangement for bulk users such as bakeries, restaurants, schools, etc, not home use. And if it lasts that long it must have some serious preservatives.... Abeg make una research this thing more. Your health is as important as your bottom line. |
It is remotely possible that some dodgy Asian betting syndicate has a hook into this guy. The authorities should dig into his accounts and that of Gareth Southgate. |
If the governor will rather sit and cry instead of advocating for the authority to fight crime in the form of State police then he should not waste his time. It is clear every day that the structure of law enforcement in Nigeria handed over by the British colonists is no longer fit for purpose. I continue to repeat this. That there is no country with such a population and split in such diversity that can successfully handle all its social needs out of one way, one mind and one purse. It took 14 long days for the escaped fugitive in the US to be captured but only after local, state and federal resources were brought to bear on the case, all bringing different competencies, skill-sets and resources. But in the meanwhile let us continue to play around with our biases and sentiment. Eventually the penny will drop after enough sacrifices have been made of the hapless citizens of this country. |
This is all just a subsidy for voting unintelligent people into administration. It is a lot cheaper to have and to hold a 'smart' phone these days than to employ a watch, calculator, diary, map.....and on and on. Nigerians should think smart to survive. |
Three pages. Yet to see the supporters, fans and fanatics of this government. To come and explain what is happening and what the government is or isn't doing right. When it comes to politics they are all out in arms. But when it comes to the governance that politics is supposed to provide they go mute, or travel on holidays. Theirs is to win for winning sake, very little else. The government in itself is no longer bothered about the slide in the value of the naira. No longer speaking about it. They too are lost at sea. Just like the deregulation of the energy sector, they have opened up the sick patient in the operating theatre but do not know how to proceed with the surgery, what to remove, how to repair or fix to restore the health of the patient. So it has become deregulation for deregulation sake..... and proves that they only acted because EVERYONE WAS SPEAKING ABOUT IT FOR YEARS. In actual fact they never had a grasp of what the real issues were. |
Appears to have collapsed again at dawn. Surprising that even at a time of almost maximum hydro generation due to the seasonal rains which incidentally reduces heavy air conditioner loads. Another government go, government come, black man remains black. |
Like I said the other day, this is the responsibility of the Ministry of Trade and Industry. They should be on top of this situation. In various crises meetings discussing.... What these imported raw materials are. Where are they sourced. Seeking the inventories of these materials with merchants presently domiciled in Nigeria that can be exploited while alternatives are sought. How local production can be spurred in the medium and long term. This is the FUNCTION OF GOVERNMENT. They organise society, moving the chess pieces of human and material resources with the objective of building capacity and generating wealth. These are the points of governance we want to hear. These are the kind of points that should have been the basis of elections. IDEAS. But go their offices and you will have to stumble through the avalanche of contractors to get an attention pre-fixed on how to spend allocations, that is all. |
tuoyoojo:Indeed. The lack of 'knowledge' of the dictates of proper parenting is the bill presented to society today. And that is why society has to agree that parents take up that responsibility and share in the liability their wards create. I am of the strong opinion that parents (at the least, one of the two) should do jail time for the criminal offences of their children who are minors and thus under (supposedly) their care, and should be made to pay heavy fines for the offences of their adult children to offset the cost to society. Harsh, but a solid mental check. If a man cannot raise quality children he should be denied the opportunity to produce more. |
Flango:I don't completely agree. Tournament teams are built from the back to front. It is a known fact that defensively sound teams stand the best chance of going through to the latter stages and winning trophies. And when you look at all Nigeria soccer teams this has been our biggest challenge and why we don't do so well in tournaments, poor defense. Notably it cost us dearly in USA94 versus Italy, lately it cost us the last Nations Cup v Tunisia. Nigeria has never had a fundamental problem with forward play and going to the last World Cup we had (supposedly) one of the best strikers in the female game. That she failed to click (some will say, as usual) is not as a result of the tactics employed. Because when you play a sound defensive game it opens the rest of the field to the kind of attack/counter attack play favorable to Nigerian forwards in general. Our forward play is generally about pace and power, not tiki-taka. The tactics employed by Waldrum was sound. It got us to the point where that extra skill and effort will have made the day. My only grouse with them was the selection of a couple of the penalty takers. I always say. Never use a cold engine to travel. |
Better. He is the best around and for sometime too. They should try and rehire him but raise the bar of expectations. |
Blackdisciple:When?, where?, how? |
So it takes a 'Presidential Directive' to pay the dues owed fallen service men. And the Army Chief is 'proud' to announce that.... Nawa... |
Loyalty.... disloyalty.... things you hear in tales by Shakespeare..... tales of antiquity..... in the days of dens and dragons, of kings and conquests... These are the things we seem to care about and excel in.... practically nothing else. |
Acekidc4:Because he was outspoken against their corruption and ineptitude. They just couldn't let the embarrassment slide. They must have lost millions in loot over the course of that tournament. A serious government will move to have sports and football in particular completely restructured making it an enterprise and advertising for positions at the international level. Let FIFA lend a hand in helping us scout for a thoroughbred administrator/CEO. This is another sector we are just not competent enough to manage. |
Guyman01:So without Gaddafi the people cannot come together and do the first picture? Will the dictator have lived forever? The West you talk about has been racked by many, many wars over generations. Europe was totally destroyed between 1916 and 1945. Japan was nuked, Korea leveled to rubble, Singapore was a defacto death camp, China was invaded by the Japanese and millions died, Russia lost 45 million in the second world war..... 45 million people, just one country in just five years of war. They don't carry those things as dead-weights on their psyche or anchors to their destiny but have ALL moved on, rebuilt, integrated their peoples in peace and solidarity and are thriving today. All except Africa. The picture below is as a result of the low mentality of the people of that country, poor mentality of feudalism. A mentality of a group wanting it ALL and all others made to serve them. A mentality of greed and avarice, period. |
I can see a lot of folks praising the Man and his choice as Minister. Good. But this should be short lived. We must also face the reality that this is the exact reason why nothing really works, or works in the kind of sustainable manner to build what is called an institution, a culture. It is just reprehensible that a Ministry with thousands of staff have to depend on the Minister to call to order a Contractor handling a far flung project. It shows the lack of ethics and proper corporate governance. Something is broken in that Ministry that is much more important than the project in question and could be far reaching round other parts of the country. I know that not only does the Ministry of Works have Supervising agents in its employment but it also engages Consultants and high cost. Enough layers of protection to ensure quality is delivered at this time of great infrastructural deficit and economic pressure. We must insist that Works department as an institution is reformed and an end put to the laxity and wanton corruption that has bedeviled it for a generation. That is the responsibility of the Minister and the biggest legacy he will leave. Much more important than his presence on every construction site. |
But why does it take A MINISTER to see shoddy jobs. What is happening in that parastatal full of people on the taxpayers tab that should be supervising these jobs. Compromise everywhere. Heads must roll or this will never end. The Minister in truth has no business addressing the Contractor. It is demeaning. It is not his job. His FIRST line of success will be to get his Ministry working. Get his staff to do their bloody jobs or show them the way out. |
If you talk, his supporters will tell you that it is his 'right', so..... |
When a son comes of age and is brought into the family business and with the father runs it aground, he knows exactly what he is going to inherit. Why should anyone else be concerned. This is not news abeg. There is a reason why political parties are voted out after poor performance in government and Nigerians will learn why..... well usually by the hard way.... of life.... they seem to prefer. The first milestone of 100 days has passed. The only action that has taken place is the strenuous belt tightening of the average citizen as he prepares to rolling with the punches of hyper inflation. All else is talk, talk and more talk. |
I quite like Iheanacho's role today as playmaker. This is what he should do and not strike as he is the best ball holder in that team. Should be the man of the match today. Osimen should have let him take the pen. |
DStv is becoming too disrespectful to this country. |
