MilestoneMillet:Modern airports have underground fuel supplies. But they still require mobile fuel dispensers, pump trucks to be specific to transfer the fuel into the aircraft. And they too have been known to get too close to causing problems. |
MilestoneMillet:It is impossible to rid the apron of trucks. How do you service aircraft. Luggage, supplies, cleaning, tugs, etc. are all vehicled services that exist at all airports in the world. |
nairalanda1:What do.you understand by investment. On a late post it is reported that government is giving a tax credit for the Bonga field development. That is investment. That is investment in the upstream sector to secure and increase production.... obviously with the purpose of earning badly needed foreign exchange. Yes, good to service the burdensome loans and deepen the reserves. But what about the local economy and he tens of thousand of businesses employing millions of Nigerians, don't they too deserve a reduction in their coats so that they too can survive and produce more. The government perhaps knows what it is doing but it just does not have any regards. Like I said, you are expected to survive, adapt or simply die off. They are not interested. The free market finger they are hiding behind does not apply to foreign firms abi... |
nairalanda1:No one is talking about subsidy. What Nigerians are asking for is investment. Investment drives down prices. You take the money you should have used to subsidize consumption and you channel it to production. Invest in the cost centres, short term, medium term , long term. Invest in refining capacity. How much has government given to other refiners by way of loans, grants, equity, whatever to fast track production. Invest in logistics. End the tanker mania. Get the products on railcars if they think pipelines are vulnerable. Invest in creating a petroleum products exchange, a market that acts as a stabilizer buying low to give better value to producers and selling when prices are high to give consumers a break. Where is our own strategic reserve....or is it only for the west, the sensible folks who knows the impact of prolonged price rises and fear the fallout on their governments.... Just donot understand what your penchant for subsidy is all about. There is a world of other ways to control and window prices of the government and the people are cerebral enough. But I guess we are in a regime of survive, adjust, adapt or die off. Doesn't bother them. Prosperity is personal for them. The citizens can go to blazes There are no political consequences for poor quality governance. |
Yes, it is a free market that the writer claims government has little control over. Agreed. But the economic consequences are what the government cannot escape from and in sane societies governments rise and fall based on the experiences of the citizens. Because above all, governments exist to organise societies, protect and prosper the people. They simply cannot hide behind ideals or ideologies. No citizenry will willingly instal a government that will make life more challenging for it for no reason at all. |
France's play is disjointed. Not good enough so far. Halftime. Let us just say it has been a match of brains v brawn. Fuentes in the driver's seat right now. |
9JAMac10:Sure. Now the game really has to open up. |
Now France has to score and this makes the game much, much, much more interesting. Now we will see Spain's legendary world cup defense v France's legendary attack. |
fineboynl:Doesn't matter. It is an infraction any day, anytime and in any part of the pitch. |
Rayjay45:France just does not have any better at left back. He's always been a shaky player even in Aston Villa. |
This is why football is near impossible to predict. Careless fouls and careless cards can crush any computer algorithm. |
Africa FC v Spain.... ![]() |
Was reading about it today. White meat so it is as healthy if not healthier than goat meat but hopefully without the funk. Can consider trying it but those with a soft heart are warned. Quite like the fur too. |
Kemetian:Oh, France is a very old civilisation. As a matter of fact their ancestors, the Gauls, the predominant tribe were in place even before Roman conquest. |
Well the best player in his team is neither Spanish by his assertion. Lamine Yamal's dad being from Morocco and his mum from Equatorial Guinea.... Like his racist counterparts in Nigeria, they don't think far at all. |
Hahahahaha....Odogwu platter for 75,000 bucks...5k above the minimum wage...I like this. Taking the First Lady"s success tips to heart...with explosive entrepreneurship..... hahahaha... |
ILoveNG:Yes, with all these qualities, let Mr.Soludo just dream, not even say he has ambitions to go earn this country and see how swiftly the narrative will change. You folks will wake him up from that dream to remind him of his ethnicity and how that makes him 'unfit' for a wider Nigeria. |
And yet none of those involved in this from that part of the country is considered unfit for public office on account of this highly unpopular policy. But for the south eastern candidature the mere fact that separatists have operated in that region is enough to disqualify any aspirant that emerges. Some northern elements consider them a security threat, just based on ethnicity. How can a nation thrive with this injustice. Mark you. You cannot compare the violence still raging in the north with the relative peace in the east, body count for body count. |
jmoore:But that is all what government is about. To organise society. You and I as individuals cannot do anything to save ourselves on this matter But when we come together as a people we put a few individuals in office as leaders and empower them to do justice. This we have consistently failed to do. They get there and instantly become pals with the same folks who they are supposed to supervise and invariably work against the interests of the majority. This is the tragedy of Nigeria. |
mycar:Just reading the responses above after my post and this is the most poignant because it is exactly what I did mention on this forum about a decade ago. That nations are made strong and indivisible by attraction and not coercion. History tells us that the longest reigning empires were those that not only conquered BUT then adapted to accommodate the regions and people's they conquered. Alexander, a boy General and Emperor was called 'the Great' not because of the vast territory he conquered and the mighty, superior adversaries he vanquished but because he was able to integrate the huge empire by giving universal liberties to the nationals. They were permitted to practice their own religions and traditions. Instead of enslaving and exploiting them he prospered them through trade. In a nutshell he made his empire ATTRACTIVE to the extent that it weakened the societies of rival empires. He was able to exert control with a small military and a small court (government).. Nations that are stable and prosperous are those that go the extra mile to make themselves attractive to the greater number of their inhabitants and in modern times this is guaranteed by social justice and universal prosperity. On the other hand, nations that by their choices live in a continual state of social tensions through injustices of all kinds never have the stamina left for sustainable development. Everyone suffers. Nigeria will continue to be anchored firmly to the bed of under development because it is busy fighting itself. You simply cannot win an automobile race if only three of your four cylinders is firing properly. Well done for this critically important information. |
Just hating for no sensible reason. If by any remote chance Obi becomes President. Can he by himself effect Biafra. Is it possible in a Constitutional democracy....? There have been other violent agaitations in Nigeria's storied history. From the south to the north Has it ever disqualified anyone from those regions from the nation's top job. Will Shettima be disqualified from the Presidency in the future or the present governor Zulum on account of their past perceived relations with the dreaded Boko Haram or their generous amnesty/reintegration programs respectively.... He and his likes should just shut it, sit down and stop inflaming divisions in this country. We know the forces of the status quo will fight as dirty as they can to ensure this country never changes for the better. It is up to Nigerians to think straight and act right. If the government is not measuring up their expectations and they feel they can do better, they should be allowed to make that choice. One thing is clear. Democracy gives every government exactly 4 years to show workings as they say. After this period democracy says the government is set in it's ways and nothing fundamentally better is bound to emerge. We have seen this exactly happen with 3 past governments. Their second terms have all been significantly worse than their first. |
abc115:Feudalism. All the talk, all the effort in reportage is about the person, not the purpose. It is a mental, psychological disease crippling this nation. You often see reports about commissioning of this and that and out of ten pictures taken, nine are filled with the entourage and only one of what is supposed to be commissioned. |
nenergy:Their present services are no better or worse than other networks. They are all the same. I have all the networks. It is just a matter of time and location. I travel a lot and I need to be constantly available so I need all networks |
jom28gy:Nothing. They are still working. |
Dalohad:Then you better get cracking on your bean cake making skills.....hahahahaha.. |
Funny people. So you all know how to 'backlash' and fight against oppression instead of calculating how many balls of akara you will need to sell to survive while they spend billions on themselves and give away trillions to their contractor friends and family....I laugh. Even education is not spared from exploitation from the ruling class who can afford the best for their wards but fight to ensure yours remain uneducated and so subservient for generations to come. If you like don't resist. Be praising and going down quicksand. They will just use your heads as stepping stones. |
Righteousness2:Blessed are the peace makers.... Do not seek the destruction of men. All men are created by God and EVERY soul that has breath is precious to Him. For this reason He sent Jesus Christ to save ALL men. Christians should not be found supporting the destruction of people as a principle. Pray for Israel so that peace comes to her, NOT the escalation of violence. Pray for her leaders so that they may gain the wisdom for peace. |
That is the concise description of an autocracy. Complete state capture and enslavement of all citizens top to bottom for one man's will, one man's way and all for one man's pleasure. |
About two weeks ago on Abuja radio some folks in support of a certain government spokesman talking about the slow decline of gasoline prices long after the mideast war had ended, berated the private sector and Nigerian businesses in particular for price gouging. There were counter claims to the effect that inflation was the cause. So here we are, a government that denies the crushing effects of inflation are themselves putting up prices and rates for services and the public including the deniers of poor governance are forced to put up with a different kind of price gouging. |
Naso. Exactly what we have been saying for ages. The battle to change Nigeria is not personal but institutional. Nigerians are fighting the wrong enemy. Change the Heads of Security services countless times....same result. Change governors and presidents....same result. Look at developed nations. Their fiercest battles are always about institutions and the law, because they know once they win those, every other thing falls into place. Mr. Makinde. You have been in office 7 years. It is so unfortunate that it is only when the effects of a central police hit home that you are crying out. Your battle to control the security architecture of your state should have started right there in your campaign, should have been in your manifesto, even before winning the election and should have continued vociferously throughout. If it was so and the centre resisted, you will have been justified today and the blame will have landed squarely in the laps of those who refused. I have been advocating endlessly for years for the creation of state police and council police, advocating for decades for the restructuring of this country. Those who refuse, reject, excuse, resist will invariably pay the price one way or the other when this country becomes too complex to govern. |
TimiofAbuja:I keep in saying this. The creation of a welfare state. A country of beggars, borrowers and 'stealers'. The deliberate policy of job creation through industrialization and enterprise creation is non existent. They rather recommend straw ventures that are easily blown away by the winds of high inflation, leaving citizens in debt traps they may never break. Okay, if you cannot create industries, why not work with industrialists to establish them. Dangote has a refinery, petrochemical and fertilizer plant for instance. Three main blocks from which countless enterprises can be spun off, up and down the value chain. Why not organise 'the people' around cooperatives to set up cottage industries to manufacture plastic products, chemical products, oil based products, etc scattered throughout the country. Set them up, seed them and then recover your investment through guided enterprise. Set up the things that have real value to transmit and multiply real skills that are internationally competitive, to produce products that have foreign exchange value and/or import substitution value. That is how to prosper a people and develop a country. Oh, when are we going to have eaders that are visionaries, that know how to build societies bottom up. |
