Written by Hassan Ibrahim, Kaduna
Friday, 14 October 2011
The Arewa Youths Forum (AYF) has challenged Vice-President Namadi Sambo to jettison any ambition for 2015 for now and face the task of development in the North.

However, Special Adviser to the Vice-President on Media and Public Affairs, Alhaji Umar Sani, said in an interview on the Voice of America (VOA) Hausa service monitored in Kaduna that the vice-president, just like President Goodluck Jonathan, was preoccupied with issues of national development and was not nursing any ambition for 2015 currently.

“It was all the work of mischief makers. At no time were the issue of 2015 and the vice-president discussed during the said meeting in Kaduna,” he said.

The national president of the AYF, Alhaji Ibrahim Gujungu, said in Kaduna on Thursday that considering his being the most superior public office holder from the North, he must, as a matter of urgency, stand and brace up for the reality of events in the region.

According to the group, unless Vice-President Sambo took proactive steps so that development would spread across the entire northern states, the vice-president’s image would be diminished and he might likely lose acceptability within the political class, traditional institutions, women, peasants and youth groups across the 19 northern states and Abuja.

CHRIS GREEN MUST APOLOGISE TO TB JOSHUA
Posted on Friday 14 October 2011 - 17:59

Chairman of Technical Committee of the NFF, Chris Green recently called Prophet T.B. Joshua unpatriotic because of the prophecy he spoke, revealing that Nigeria would lose the AFCON qualifying match with Guinea and asking Nigeria to come together with him to pray for God's intervention.

Question: How can you call someone who gives a warning of impending danger to your country, unpatriotic?

Consider the SSS. Didn't the government of Nigeria task them with the job of seeking out those incidents and individuals that can cause problem in the country and warn us of the potential danger? We can hardly call that unpatriotic!

The FBI was issuing statements of imminent terror attacks on the US just before the 9/11 strike on the US and warnings to be on guard. Was the FBI acting unpatriotically in trying to save the nation?

Before the London subway bombings, Scotland Yard issued statements and alerts at all subway stations to be on the look out for suspicious looking individuals and packages at the stations. Was Scotland Yard acting unpatriotically in trying to protect their citizens?

During the royal wedding in London, Scotland Yard issued warnings about possible anarchy and/or terrorist attacks against Prince William and Kate Middleton earlier this year. Can you say they are unpatriotic for protecting their monarchy? Do you not try to protect your kings, no matter the size of their reign?

The SSS issued warnings and precautions during Nigeria's 50th Anniversary just before the bombing which took place metres from the president’s location. Were they acting unpatriotic in trying to save the lives of the president and the nation?
Would you not have loved to hear warnings before the UN office in Abuja was attacked and many lives lost? Would you not have loved to hear warnings before Police Headquarters was attacked and our security forces were killed? Would you not love to save the lives of your fellow Nigerianshuh

Meteorologists and geologists survey weather patterns constantly and warn the public about coming storms, earthquakes, hurricanes. Is it unpatriotic to advise people to prepare for storms, to evacuate their homes to escape death from wildfires, to pack their belongings to dry ground so they do not lose their life’s work or belongings?

When the earthquake hit Japan, didn’t the entire international community come out and attack the scientists for NOT informing them beforehand of the epic disaster that came? What is unpatriotic then, NOT informing your countrymen of impending danger and allowing them to suffer, or ALERTING your countrymen so they can be prepared and save their lives/reputations/future?

What are you talking about Chris Green? If that is in fact your REAL NAME? Patriotism = desire, determination, effort to protect and save the lives, reputation, livelihood and self-respect of your nation. Prophet T.B. Joshua = Patriotism to God and his country. He asked God to show him what was to come in our country, he alerted us of the impending disaster, he asked us to join him in trying to change the outcome. Chairman Green, WHAT DID YOU DO? What NAME do we give YOU?

Chairman Green, Nigeria has spoken:
You have 7 days to issue an apology for your statements regarding Prophet T.B. Joshua.
Nigeria's patriots are waiting.
What sort of nonsense is this?
Sports › Enyimba Must Win Against Wydad - Anyansi by Relax101(op): 10:37pm On Oct 14, 2011
Anyansi: It Is Win Or Bust For Enyimba!

CAF Champions League hopefuls, Enyimba of Aba, have restated the importance of Sunday's semifinal return leg match against Moroccan foes, Wydad, saying they will do their best to nick victory in the game.

Chairman of the club, Chief Felix Anyansi Agwu, told Complete Sports that the match is a must-win game for them in their aspiration to win the continent's most prized club side trophy for the third time.

The Aba side who won the cup back-to-back in 2003 and 2004 lost 1-0 to the Moroccans in the first leg decided in Casablanca two weeks ago and need to overhaul that deficit with at least a clear 2-0 win to advance to the final.
Anyansi Agwu believes it is a mission possible while admitting however that it won't be a walk in the park for his team.

"We are going for an outright victory; that is the only result that can see us through," insisted the Vice-Chairman of the Technical Committee of Nigeria Football Federation,NFF.

"It is a must win game for us but first we must have to start from somewhere which is to cancel out the [1-0] deficit. We cannot afford to fail at this time because we owe Nigerians that trophy this time around."

Kc3000:
I'm sure the Yoruba have their reasons for holding Awolowo in such high regards, but his attitude towards other Nigerians left very little to be admired about the man. I believe he saw everything through a tribal lens, unfortunately, and other Nigerians could see this clearly. He came off as someone who was too desperate for power, and would readily compromise whatever moral standings he had, to achieve power. He fell out of favor with the North, and was thrown into prison by Tafawa Balewa for allegedly planning a coup in 1962 (I think), but the Igbo were not pleased with what seemed like northern interference in southern politics, given the support Akintola enjoyed from the North. For all they knew, the east could be next. With Awolowo in prison, Akintola as the new premier decided to conduct elections, to strengthen his party's hold in the region, so Dr. M.I Okpara, the premier of the eastern region sent the renowned Journalist, Mazi UKonu from Enugu to counter the expected announcement of falsified results from Akintolas camp. Ukonu risked his life, sneaking out from the location where all the journalists were required to stay and announce the rigged resuts provided by Akintola's camp. He set up in Awolowo's house (in his library), from where he broadcast all the results of the election as provided to him by the Action Group(AG) field agents. Meanwhile Akintola's loyalists combed all of Ibadan looking for the source of the broadcast, but Ukonu, who was with Wole Soyinka in Awolowo's house, managed to escape back to the east when it was all said and done. The AG carried the day.
Read the excerpt below, as narrated by a Nigerian First Republic minister, as to how the Igbo looked out for Awolowo's interest while he was imprisoned, as he was regarded as the true leader of the Yoruba, and a victim of northern conspiracy. Also read his response to the plight of the Igbo after the civil war. Lest we forget, Ojukwu released him from prison, where he was languishing and met with him, according him all the respect he deserved, but he reciprocated all this by quickly joining Gowon's cabinet, and doing all he could during the war, to prove his allegiance to the north by spiting the Igbo at any chance he had.

Interview:

A member of Nigeria's first republic Federal cabinet, Chief Mbazuluike Amaechi have accused the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo of ingratitude to the Igbos immediately after the Nigerian civil war.

In an interview granted to a Nigerian national weekly, "The Nation On Sunday" and monitored by chidi opara reports, Chief Amaechi recounted how Igbo leaders immediately after the civil war sent a delegation to Chief Awolowo, who was the Minister of Finance and Vice-chairman of the Federal Executive Council, to help the Igbos recover their landed properties seized by the Federal government in Port Harcourt and other major townships.

The reason for sending the delegation, according to the 81-year-old first republic Minister of Aviation was that when Chief Awolowo was sent to prison in Calabar, which was part of Eastern Nigeria by the Federal administration of Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa in 1962, the Eastern Nigerian government led by Dr. M.I Okpara, an Igbo, in collaboration with other Igbo leaders persuaded an Igbo landed property owner to vacate his property near the Calabar prisons for the imprisoned politician. Chief Awolowo, according to Chief Amaechi stayed in the prison in daytime and in the property at night, The ex-zikist also revealed that the Eastern Nigerian government placed Chief Awolowo's wife on a Minister's salary, allowances and other benefits.

"So we thought he would remember these things, a delegation was sent to him because he was in charge of Finance and Vice-chairman of the Federal Executive Council", Chief Amaechi told the weekly. The former anti-colonial activist continued, "he said, you know I am a lawyer. I have a chamber at Apapa. If you want me to help you in the matter, go and pay a sum of two million pounds into my chamber at Apapa and bring the receipt to me". "And the Igbos who were given only twenty pounds, where would they collect and assemble two million pounds at that time in 1970?", the elder statesman queried.

Chief Mbazuluike Amaechi revealed further that in frustration, the delegation left. He described Chief Obafemi Awolowo's action as "the height of ingratitude to a people who gave him succour at his crisis period."
