Frankly I get offended by some of Chino11's comments sometimes, and I've told him a few times, but he is almost a lose cannon. I am a typical Anamabra guy, and know how Anambra folks approach issues. We are more nuanced in our views and criticisms of fellow Igbo states. Chino11 sounds "off the chain" and seems to quarrel with anyone that he thinks is about to take away "Anambra glory". The funny thing though is that most Anambra citizens are busy critiquing and criticizing their own governor and government, than have time to bring others down.

Owerri is a beautiful city.  cool It is left for Imolites to decide if and when they want to develop more cities. We all must approach development our own ways.

BTW Abagworo, would you know the range of prices for lands within 10 -15 minutes driving range of Owerri city center?
I gotta get me a land nearby.  cool
Hahahahaha Chino11 na real case study.

@ Chyz,

Traditions recording the history of Brass/Nembe are not scant. Whilst Okrika, Kalabari and Ibani controlled the Rio Real and Imo rivers, Akassa and Nembe controlled the lower River Niger and had most of their dealings with Aboh, Onitsha and Western Igbo. Nembe and Akassa also absorbed numerous Igbos and almost every Nembe man should have some Igbo ancestry. It was even rumoured that the King of Nembe was an Igbo man, prompting the village women to compose a song in riposte to questions about his ancestry.
If this is true, why is there so much mistrust among these two groups?
If you are correct about the bolded, why cant these Ijaw men parading themselves everywhere acknowledge there Igbo Lineage?
Is it too difficult to accept your history and move on.

Also call your man, killayut to order. Just read all the gibberish he wrote.lol.
Politics › Man Defrauds Police Officers! by Relax101(op): 2:35pm On Oct 01, 2011
The Special Anti-robbery Squad at Ikeja has arrested 32-year-old Mr. Charles Ebuzoma and his girlfriend, Miss Ifreka Keshium, 25, for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting people of over N1million.

Mr. Ebuzoma is also alleged to have impersonated a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Adeoye, and a retired Commissioner of police, Akaya.

Ebuzoma, a native of Kwale in Delta State, resides in Abuja where he sells homemade footwear and accessories.
Speaking on why he defrauded his victims, Ebuzoma claimed that he was not earning enough profit from his footwear business, so he ventured into fraud to make ends meet.

" One day, I was in a bus heading home when I met a police officer sitting close to me. The officer was wearing his uniform and he told me that he works at the police headquarters. I told him about my difficulties in making money from my footwear business and he promised to help me," Ebuzoma narrated. "The next day, I went to meet him at the office and he gave me the contact number of the IG and other senior police officers . I told him I wanted to use it to defraud people but he said I must give him N4,000 for the information; that was how I got the IG's number and I started impersonating him and other senior officers."

The scam

Narrating how he defrauds people, Ebuzoma said: "A friend of mine, Philip, who is now late sold the idea of being a fraudster to me. Philip was into internet scams.

"What I do is that I will call the numbers of police officers and introduce myself as the IG or a former well recognised senior officer. I will tell the officers that I need money for a medical treatment or to solve some pressing problems and some of them will fall for my trick.

"I will then send an account number to them, some of them will pay some money but majority of those I called will not respond. I defrauded two police officers of N150,000 each while impersonating retired CP Akaya. They were under the impression that I needed financial assistance for my medical condition. All the monies were paid via an account number I sent to them in a text. Those were the only people I defrauded," Ebuzoma said.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State commissioner of police, Mr. Yakubu Alkali added that Ebuzoma successfully defrauded more than fourteen victims of N1.5m before he was arrested last month.

"Some of his victims were senators, police officers and his own personal friends. The entire operation was usually executed via text messages. Ebuzoma never made physical contact with his victims," Alkali said.

"Two senators, Imegwu and Patrick Osakwa, were defrauded of N50,000 each under the ruse that payments were being made to Akaya. The bubble burst when Ebuzoma made contact with the Commanding Officer MOPOL 22, Superintendent Abubakar Yakubu under the guise of being retired DIG Adeoye. Ebuzoma initially asked that Yakubu text the phone number of the OC Mopol 20 to him. Yakubu said he didn't have it but later sent him a false number, claiming that the phone of OC MOPOL 20 was lost.

Emboldened by Yakubu's seeming cooperation, Ebuzoma then requested financial assistance. He claimed to be ill at his home town Osogbo and was having difficulty coping with medical bills while in retirement. Suspicious, Yakubu requested that Ebuzoma send an aide to Yakubu to get the money but Ebuzoma declined, texting the account number of his 'secretary' instead by which the money could be transferred.

"Yakubu at this point made contact with the Officer in Command SARS, Abba Kyari a superintendent of police. Immediately, a court order was obtained to enable SARS obtain the personal data of the owner of the UBA account which Ebuzoma had given to Yakubu. The owner of the account turned out to be a woman, Miss Ofreka Keshium, a one time girlfriend of Ebuzoma."

Alkali said the officers from SARS stormed Abuja and arrested Keshium who led the officers to Ebuzoma's house from where he was arrested and transferred to Lagos State.

"Her house address obtained from her bank data was traced to Ojodu-Berger but SARS operatives were informed that she had moved out of her apartment. Luckily, a tenant assisted the police in contacting someone who knew Ofreka's whereabouts and that was how she was arrested," Mr. Alkali said.

'I never suspected he was a criminal'Ofreka said, "I met Ebuzoma in Feburary this year at Abuja when I went to see my cousin. We started a relationship when I got to meet his mother during her visit to Abuja; this was in March. I never suspected he was a criminal even when he asked to pay in some money through my account; he had just sold his car. I made two withdrawals for him to pay his rent and that was it. The account was dormant before Ebuzoma started using it.

"We started having problems in May when he became cruel to me and broke up finally in June when he warned me never to honour any invitation from UBA to come to the bank to answer any questions. At this time, he had seized my ATM and savings booklet. It was after he told me this that I quit the relationship and came back to Lagos to live with my sister."

Alkali advised members of the public to be wary of unscrupulous sms and phone calls which solicit for "unreasonable assistance". "The suspect sent over 50 text messages to senators and police officers from his phone log we retrieved," he said.

"Investigations are still on to apprehend the police officer involved in this scam at the COMPOL department of the Force headquarters, and the suspects will be charged to court as soon as we are through with our investigations," Alkali said.

Politics › Jonathan Swears In New Head Of Service! by Relax101(op): 2:32pm On Oct 01, 2011
President Goodluck Jonathan has sworn-in Alhaji Isa Bello Sali as the new Head of Service ( HOS ) of the Federation.

The President who noted that the government transformation agenda will grind to a halt without an efficient and effective Civil Service to drive the process, also said the new HOS was assuming office at a critical period in the history of the Civil Service.

“We have new challenges now because this is a government that is committed to transformation; that means that a number of things will be done differently," Jonathan said.

He added that: “We just cannot wake up and talk about transformation. No individual, no matter how strong you are, can change things if the people refuse to do their work.

“The transformation can only come from the people. And that is why we are emphasising that our institutions must be strengthened. For you to strengthen our institutions, it means that the key actors in these institutions; the civil servants and the public servants working in these places must all consider themselves as agents of transformation and facilitators of government businesses.”

Jonathan pointed out that the main duty of the HOS is to properly supervise and ensure that civil servants carry out their assignments in a competent manner.

“Promotions and appointments are no longer to be based on how many years somebody has been sleeping somewhere, but it depends on how productive the person is and how competent the person is, and of course the degree of integrity," he said.

Noting that for a long time, Nigeria has lived beneath her potentials, the President said it was time for those potentials to be turned into actual tangible and measurable assets.

“Let me also use this opportunity to plead with the civil servants of our great country that for Nigeria to go where we want to go, the civil servant should play more than 80 percent of the role. The political office holders are very transient even though they have a lot of powers. Those who really make the changes are the civil servants.

“If the civil servants are not committed, we cannot go anywhere. That is why as a government we will also ensure that we create an enabling environment so that people who are working for government must be motivated, so that they will be encouraged to do the work very well.”

He charged the new HOS not to condone any act of indiscipline in the system.

“As a nation, we are tired of hearing that Nigeria is a country that is potentially great. From 1960 we have been hearing that Nigeria is potentially great, it is time that the potential energy is converted to kinetic energy so that work has to be done.

“I also say to the ministers and the perm sec that if you have directors that are serving as stumbling blocks let us know. Yes we have civil service commission that could discipline people but we also have other ways of doing this. So, any group of people that will become clogs in the wheel of progress in any Ministry can be removed to make sure that those people who are ready to work, do the job," Jonathan said.

Politics › We Want To See Nigeria Prosper, Says Clinton! by Relax101(op): 2:30pm On Oct 01, 2011
United States Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, says the Obama administration will want to see the Nigeria “prosper and grow” despite serious security and economic challenges.

Addressing a news conference with visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olugbenga Ashiru, she stressed that economic development was key to Nigeria's growth.

She described Nigeria as “one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, with the largest population in Africa and strong trading relationships” with U.S.

“We want to see Nigeria prosper and grow,” she said. “To this end, the U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation, OPIC, has just approved 250 million dollars in financing to help revitalise the Union Bank of Nigeria, and to reach previously un-banked people in Nigeria. And we will look for ways to support Nigeria as it reduces inequality and builds a broader base for prosperity.”

Clinton, who condemned the bombing of the UN headquarters in Abuja last month, reassured Nigeria of the U.S. commitment in the fight against terrorism.

She said the U.S. would work with Nigeria and countries in West Africa to improve security and address the legitimate needs of people before extremists have a chance to exploit them.

The U.S. Secretary of State also outlined major achievements of the U.S.-Nigeria Binational Commission -a flagship agreement for bilateral cooperation, signed 17 months ago between both countries.

She added that the Commission was working in the area of advancing good governance, energy access and reliability, food security and dealing with extremism.

Clinton noted that during the last April 2011 elections the U.S. worked closely with the government and civil society to improve transparency and address the political and logistical challenges of the elections.

She reiterated that for the first time in recent history, Nigeria held elections that were “widely hailed as credible and effective”. “And we know that over 90 per cent of Nigerians thought the elections was free and fair,” she said. “That is up from 30 per cent just a short four years ago.”

She praised Nigerians for making “strides every day and consolidating their democracy and the institutions of democracy”, in addition to Nigeria government’s important role on global issues through its seat on the UN Security Council.

She stressed that Nigeria had assumed a leading role “in helping to improve stability in West Africa”. “Nigeria played a key role in supporting the difficult democratic transitions in Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea and Niger,” she said. “Nigeria’s own example of credible elections provides it with great credibility in democracy promotion across the continent.”

Responding, Ashiru said the meeting discussed attracting more investment to Nigeria, especially in the energy and power sector.

He said he told Clinton that U.S. companies should take advantage of the “boom” foreseen in the nearest future in the energy sector.

“U.S. companies should not sit on the fence as they did when we had the telecoms boom in Nigeria,” he said. “They should not allow their competitors to go reaping only from Nigeria, and now this is the time for them to move into Nigeria and take part in the energy boom which we foresee.”
