I am happy to seee you make a very sensible post. ... (as I await your next comical attempt on being tribalistic) lipsrsealed grin
Aigbofa: Am happy the humble garri is finally getting the attention it rightly deserves. Having saved millions of Nigerians from starvation, including people who would rather have nothing to do with it in public. I am proud to confirm that I like garri and very concerned about it's price.

Having said that, the garri question is not really about garri. It is a rhetorical question about how a particular subject, topic, thread or statement is relevant to the subject being discussed.

I would not ban this phrase, but then I am not Seun and I don't own Nairaland.
PoliticsRe: Yoruba Vs Igbo Cat Fights: Are You Tired Of Them? by remarkD(m): 3:41pm On Aug 30, 2012
no matter how many times you try to explain this to them, and that Banjo was not heading to the SW to attack the Yorubas, they will refuse to see it that way and hold on to the lie their forebearers told them., its pathetic really. I mean... these are grown up adults behaving this way. definately part of what keeps the two tribes from from coming together. I cant think of any reason they would hold on to lies, other than to cover up something... in the cas eof the wary its to use such a lie as reason for the actions of Awolowo. Thats the only thing they have against us, without it, it leaves them looking bad, really bad, for being on the wrong side of of history.

So to save face, it is safe to say "... you invaded our land to attack us ... "
The day they let go of all the lies they hold against Igbos, (i guess its just that lone action of "invadi" that is the last of the two tribbes cooperating) is when we will be one step closer to coming together...

pardon my typing yall, aint very used to flatscreen cell phones...
nku5: This stuff is clearly genetic. So Zik wanting to run for election in yorubaland meant he wanted to "rule" the yorubas. So na so una dey see am abihuh Zik was naively doing one love and speaking yoruba language thinking he was dealing with people like himself, meanwhile they were turning up their noses at him while his back was turned.

wasnt it Oduduwa that fell from the sky? like rain according to you? jusst reminding you lol
CyberG: It was an illustration, obviously you saw that I was only painting a quick picture. To the objective reader, who understands this simple illustration, the real story would become instantly clear. I am busy now and cannot dig up any publications of the account. Focus on that and not snide comments like "born of a woman" except of course some people in Nigeria grew from the ground like plants or dropped from the sky like rain.

Thats Katsimoto for you - skewed half-truths cleverly mixed with lies and very thin threads of deceit that his NL followers swallow as the gospel truth.
ndu_chucks: Your chronology does not answer or offer any explanation for the question of how the biafrans were able to launch several successful offensives against the federal troops in 1969?

If the federal troops had surrounded the biafrans as you claim, you must admit that the affair was completely ineffective, as of 1969.

Buhari should go and sit down, abeg. He's beginning to act like Awolowo wanting to be president by all means. He's just increasing his frustration and wasting his time each time he runs. I mean, he campaigns only in the north and hopes to defeat PDP that has a wider reach across the country... (well, less the SW now...)

Use your head, boy. How old are you btw?

lol even Katsimoto is laughing at you. are you okay, bro?
Aigbofa: "Here are some strategies for emotional release of anger:

ü Take a few deep breaths. Breathe in through your nose for five seconds and out through your mouth for five seconds. Repeat the process until you feel calm.

ü Write a letter to the person you are angry at that you never intend to send. Be as irate as you wish, but try if you can to express the secondary emotions behind your anger in the letter. After you are done, you can either tear the letter up or burn it, depending on how you feel.

ü Talk to a close friend who has nothing to do with the situation. One cautionary note, check with the person before you begin to be sure they are prepared to listen. If it is not a good time, ask when would be a better time and make an arrangement to talk then. You will also need to be sure the person is a good listener and is willing to put up with your ranting and raving!

ü If you are coping with a lot of historical anger it might help to write a list of all the people you are angry at and why. Remember you are not planning to share this list with any of the people on it.

ü Scream in the Car - If you do this, be sure that the windows are rolled up and doors are closed. Make sure nobody is around.

ü Twist a Towel – Tightly twist a towel using both hands. As you twist, express your anger verbally, say I’m angry”, “I hate you”, or whatever else you are feeling. Let the towel absorb your anger.

ü Dance and Music – This is a great way to release anger but it is a bit noisy so you may want to wait until you are alone. If you live in an apartment that has poor sound proofing you may prefer to take it to some other location, such as a secluded woods. Play a piece of music that expresses your anger. Now start dancing – in a primitive, passionate style. Stomp your felt on the floor and shake your body. If you have one, you can add a drum or tambourine to the mix. Feel the anger flowing out of body. When you stamp the floor say, “Boom, this Anger”, “Boom, Boom, (name the person you are angry at here)”.

ü Get back to nature – Go to your local forest or wildlife park. Walk or run on the trails – what ever you prefer. Use what nature has to offer such as a rocks for throwing (be sure nobody is in its path!), dead branches for beating on the ground, etc.

ü Exercise – go for a walk or run to unwind. Only one precaution here… Be sure you are not using exercise as a distraction. The object of this exercise (no pun intended!) is to release your anger not suppress it.

ü Beat a Drum – Get a drum and pound on it. Please note, all the cautionary notes mentioned in “Dance and Music” (above) also apply here too!

ü Punch a Pillow – Don’t forget to verbalize your anger. Yes, you have my permission to yell at your pillow."

These Yoruba e-warriors are pathetic. See how they all ran like rats and hid. I wonder how many of them have taken rat poison yet. Whenever the heat is on, they're no where to be found. I can guarantee you that come Monday, the surviving ones (that didnt have enough rat poison to go around for them) will come back to start gingering at (Igbo) posters that are trying to have a normal conversation and not into e-wars to derail the thread; then again, if their match shows up to take them on, ... again they disappear .. its the same thing over and over that i've witnessed on nairaland, corresponding to how they behave in real life as one can see in history.
The so-called hero the praise is an ugly man that went about killing women and children,to them, he is a strong fighter and warrior. His bragging could have made some quit and surrender right away, but what happened when he met Achuzie? Today he is in Maryland, still in hiding, probably rotting away and is always on e-bay trying to find the best rat poison in the market.
Awolowo-wowo the same thing, "if you leave, i will leave too.. blah blah blah", but when the saw fighting was involved, he surrendered to the North... wonder if he gave Gowon a BJ too..

is it in you guys' nature to double speak and not make sense? especially when trying to talk down on another tribe? i really wonder atimes, immediatgely after being told he officially handed over to his second in command, then you write that he went on AWOL... i mean... is it that you dont know the meaning of awol or you are just so desperate to score tribal points?
is why some people just ignore you guys and i wont even be responding if not that i have sworn not to see a lie and let it pass on nairaland (about Igbos) becausee this was how i believed all the lies i was reading in the papers while in Nigeria (because people - Igbos - werent coming out to refute them), only to now start realizing they were all false. i wont keep quiet anymore to let you deceive any gullible minds by p osting lies on the internet.

so the moment i point out your lies, i'll let you be because i know you wont take the truth, since you've made up your mind to believe falsity.

and have you, by the way, found what in my previous post made you call me a tribalist? if you couldn't find any, dont you think you should at least apologize?
(i aint holding my breath though...)

T9ksy: Pardon me, i didn't mean to joke about it however I just want to clear the ambiguity in your post.

You claimed failure to live according to the military code necessitated Banjo's death and i wondered out loud what is the punishment

for a general who also failed woefully to live by the military code. Unless of course, you want to convince me that a general going AWOL

(during fierce battles and when his life is clearly on the line), is permissible in our military code, hence ojukwu was and is still hailed,

an HERO.
PoliticsRe: Ojukwu Killed Lt. Col. Banjo: Why? I Need to get to the root of this matter... by remarkD(m): 10:35pm On Aug 20, 2012
neither do the Igbos care about what Yorubas or other thinks about them.
What I was pointing is the clear lies being told and spread by the yorubas, which he has believed and taken hook, line and sinke with no reason - or just because it makes his tribe look good.
What in my post makes me guilty of tribalism...someone is lieing and being deceitful and i caught him on it and you say I am the tribalistic? leaving the lies being spread against Igbos and wishing i didnt address? I seriously wanna hear what you think in my poss that makes me atribalist.

tunnytox: You are exactly guilty of what you accused other of doing TRIBALISM, it is normal for diffrent people to see things from the different angle. i don't care and I believe many Yorubas too don't care about what some few bigoted Igbos think about us.
PoliticsRe: Ojukwu Killed Lt. Col. Banjo: Why? I Need to get to the root of this matter... by remarkD(m): 8:59pm On Aug 20, 2012
You see, the reason some are just leaving you to wallow in your ignorance is because tribalists usually can't see reason and make sense of it as all they see if what is wrong with others and right with their tribe. You are asking him to answer your question which is already on a false premise, and happens to be the question a poster has been trying to get you to answer on this thread and you are side-stepping it. if you answer that question, then your own question will suddenly be exposed and seen as plain ignorance and st.upidity. The same tactis Katsimoto uses in a more deceitful way as he mixes the "false premise" with half-truths.

Although i know very well you are not looking for answers but trying to prove a point where there is none, for the sake of any gullible minds i will pointit out instead of letting your lies continue going on as it has for so many years that the west of Nigerian writers have been propagating it.

In your deceitful words ... "Why would anyone foolishly declare war on ... people that had no alliance or agreement with you ... "

So you believe the Igbos declared war on the Yorubas? and that was why the BLF was heading to Lagos, to fight the Yorubas (when Gowon was sitting in Lagos and commanding the invasion of Biafra).
Maybe you need to answer your own question. Why would the Igbos declare on the Yorubas when the massacre of civilians was mainly by northerners?

What is the premise of attacking Yorubas?

Why would free passage be asked of the people to be (allegedly, by you) attacked?

List the Yorubas that were attacked and killed if this was you say was declared on the Yorubas was not in your dreams and an attempt by you to justify deceit, treachery, backstabbing and all the evil Awolowo perpetuated.

It is clear and simple to see where, when, how and why the Igbos believe Yorubas are cowards and back-stabbers or sly and cnning.

The yorubas might (and do) see it as hate and causing trouble, but the truth is that Igbos don't hate the Yorubas, but are simply letting them know that .. "we know you now and how you play" ... and will make sure they don't get bit once again.

(It was interesting to see the comment IBB made about a Yoruba planning a coup to unseat him... though its one man's view, but its from their leader and these leaders know themselves, but it seems the Hausas also see the Yorubas as cowards. howcome?

I'm out. for now at least... :S
CyberG: The height of naked stupidity you are displaying here is beyond pathetic! Why not at least haphazard a guess at the answer to the question instead of veering incorrigibly away from the question! Just FYI, how can any one foolishly declare war on a non-existent premise that a remote land over 1000 KM away, who has no alliance or agreement with you will act against their own interest but your own interest? This is exactly the ridiculous point you are making here but I know you've been listening to too many foolis.h and uninformed opinions of people who were beaten into the ground and lost woefully by that stupi.d declaration of an unwinnable war! So, go back now and answer the question!
PoliticsRe: Ojukwu Killed Lt. Col. Banjo: Why? I Need to get to the root of this matter... by remarkD(m): 7:29am On Aug 20, 2012
You are the real Real McCoy! The true son of your father that says it like it is!

The Cyber FOOL is not concerned about the real truths behind the war, but is more interested in twisting facts and the truth in a way that will support all his/their false notions. They believe repeating it over and over again and recycling the same lies: that Ojukwu was not betrayed by Awo; that Fajayi chose to die with Ironsi, or that the Igbos wanted to dominate/conquer the Yorubas and all what naught will give them a chance to sleep well at night knowing they had justifications (which are pure lies) for joining a war of aggression against a people seeking a just cause.

They know they screwed up big time, but they cant accept it because the aftermath has left us all worse off ... the Igbos faring slightly better than they are in spite of the huge losses they had economically. It seems they wish they had not fought the Igbos and declared Oduduwa then; but we all know it is easier to make excuses and pointing fingers at others.
.

It is on this nairaland that a Yoruba lady, Ileke.idi i believe, said she wishes Igbos will declare Biafra again, so that this time they will leave. i thought it was a joke until i saw another Yoruba say the same thing on another thread. Somehow they cant believe Awolowo was that treacherous. But the funny thing is that if they want their own country, why must they wait for the Igbos to take action first and make the same move?

Ojukwu believe Awolowo, if another Igbo believes and aacacts on the words or notions of another Yoruba (either the way they were calling for a coup against Jonathan... lol) or whichever way .... the Igbos will be the most foolish on earth to fall again to such treachery.

A Yoruba man says something in the news...

Igbos come and say "Confirmed!" that they have known what was said all along...

Yorubas come in ...

You know the rest.

At the end of the day...

Igbos still believe what they believe... (that which was confirmed by the Yoruba man) and hope more truths will be revealed...

Yorubas still believe the Igbos have it all wrong ...Nothing is really accomplished... well, except the Igbos believe more truth has been revealed from the Yoruba camp.

Everything else is the usual NL back and forth, day in day out, "I/we are better than you."

So the Biafran troops requested passage en route to Lagos... this has not been dis proved so far ... so why still call the mission of heading to Lagos as an "invasion" of the south-west?

If someone is invading you, they don't ask for permission, do they?

It seeems the truth is difficult for some Yorubas to bear that their beloved Awo was treacherous by way of his actions towards the Igbos.

It shouldnt really matter anyways, as long as we have learnt our lessons.

Its funny seeing Cyber G(oat) boasting of another war that they'll do this and do that ... lol its really funny, typical Yoruba man; don't they say once bitten twice shy? You think another Igbo leader will take a Yoruba man's words for anything? You've "bitten" us once, and unfortunately it costts us a lot, but the spirit of the Igbos is still making us prosper and multiplying... and we'll stay in your land whether you like it or not, you cant drive us out as loong as we're still in this one nigeria your fathers fought for.

Katsumoto: Damn, English grammar is so difficult for many Biafrans. It appears
that many don’t know about conditional clauses and its uses in sentence construction. A conditional clause is used to express that the action in the main clause will only occur IF a certain condition/action is actualized.

Let’s take a look at what Awo said’
If the Eastern Region is allowed by acts of omission or commission to secede from or opt out of Nigeria, then the Western Region and Lagos must also stay out of the Federation.

Simply put, IF Nigeria allows the East to secede, then the West would also opt out of Nigeria. Nothing in there suggests that Awo promised/threatened to pull out of Nigeria with Biafra. The main action in that statement is that the West WILL secede and the conditional clause is IF the East is allowed by acts of omission or commission to secede. As long as the East wasn’t successful in its bid to secede, the main action CANNOT occur.
If Awo wanted to promise that the West would secede with the East, he would have said, ‘the West WILL also declare secession if the East declares secession’. In Awo’s comment, he is STATING that the secession of the East is contingent upon action or inaction on the part of the rest of the Nigerian Federation.

I dare any of you to produce a text in which Awo stated that the Yoruba were going to secede with Biafra. What concerned the Yoruba with Biafra? Was Awo your leader? Bloddy failures who bit of more than they could chew and then resorted to blaming the man who warned them severally about the contraption called Nigeria and the dangers of seceding.

We have come full cycle back to what i said earlier lol. Being not-in-Nigeria and trying to convince someone residing in Nigeria to take action, reaction or revolution usually doesn't fly; and because i have tried that and each time the conversation ends with the retort that I (or people overseas do not love Nigeria more than the residents, or that things do not happen in Naija the way it happens in developed countries - which is what i think is influencing what you are saying: in first word coutries, people, citizens (or more currectly, tax payers lol are allowed to participate and have their voices heard; otherwise, ordinary 100 people with placards will get the medias attention, or even signatures, but can that happen in nigeria? What are the chances that it will happen in 3 to 4 years compared to the chances that I, or you, or Mr. X or Mrs Y will, can, or should be successful enough in 3 to 4 years and start developing the communities we live in?

You guess is as good as mine. Because I am far away, all i can do, or part of what i can do now is take use of the opportunity and succede to use the power of the dollar and start that change.
Kobojunkie: Well, here we have you, an educated Nigerian, rather than, I don't know, going out to educate the uneducated, chosing to instead go back into your own world to make your own money before you can decide on when to come back out to help. What do you expect to happen while you are lost in you? For the uneducated to automagically get it?

When it comes to democracy, it becomes "me against the world" when you are a part of the minority and the only way to change that is to work at convincing people to come to your side. Only then can you change the tide. In this case, convince the uneducated that it is in their best interest to learn of their country.

Rochas was never able to build enough schools for even 1% of the students in the state, with all his wealth, so I don't see while you are still on this.

Ofcourse you can have your personal dreams and goals, even as you work towards change now. I see no reason why you feel it has to be either one or the other.
PoliticsRe: Abians Come And Let Us Discuss The Welfare Of Our State by remarkD(m): 2:25am On Aug 06, 2012
So its a vicious cycle it seems. The people don't know because they are not educated (the market woman or taxi driver might not know what a budget is), and the corrupt government keeps looting money meant for education or other development meant for the people.

Then, but you and I who are fortunated enough to know, what have we done? what can we do?

(it seems the educated in Nigeria are aparthedic as they feel there is nothing they can do to take control as you say and ensure governance elevates the livelihood of the masses).

as the poster above says, so is the notion of many ... "its like me against the world."

Is why i say and feel, that what i have control of now, is my own life and destiny, which I have chosen to include that of the less fortunate in my country...

Going back to wealth for a minute, do you think Rochas could have smelt the Imo state government house if he wasn't rich? the schools he built, wasn't it because he was rich? (or at least had the money?)

So, I think it should be the other way around ... plan to get wealth, and in the mean time, get together, participate as and if you can ... etc.

I also wanted to hear what you suggest, an action plan or blueprint of some sort for "participating" and "taking control" as you said. Did you make suggestions to the Igbo group you went to lately?
Kobojunkie: Yes, the money exists for much of what work needs to be done at this time. However, the people need to take control in order to see the work is done and done right. If you want to build world additions later on, you are free to do that then.

You said it requires more of "participation and less of wealth..."
care to explain?I am willing to learn how to effect change without a kobo spent.

Kobojunkie: Like they say "Only a mad man will continue doing things the same old way thinking each time that something different will come of the exercise" . . .

I walked into a meeting of Ibos in diaspora only last week, and this group boasted of 10,000 members. When you look through their brochure, there were named in their doctors upon doctors. Some families bought a whole page to celebrate themselves, yet in all of that brochure, there was not much in the way of actual accomplishment by this group when it comes to rebuilding any part of iboland, even the villages. I don't think it makes sense to wait till when you are rich to help. In fact, the fight requires more participation and less of wealth as this point, and this is for all of Nigeria. Oyinbos don't wait till they are rich to help africa, why do we think that is the only time we can?

lol are you mocking me?
it takes money to build schools and most of the things i want to do for my community and country. So why not let me be if i express my ambition of what i plan to do when I get the money? Hopefully it wont take 3 to 4 years, or hopefully someone, others will be moved to effect these changes thats so desperately needed.

Kobojunkie: Yes, change is coming when you eventually get rich enough, in the next 3 to 4 years, right? grin grin grin grin grin

I'm not sure what the standards of education is at the moment, but I doubt it is as competitive when compared to international standards. I really think education is the place to start, especially childhood education, since tey say a person learns most things in life between the ages of ... 0 - 8(8(? have to look it up again) ...
I mean compare our rulers from the time of Zik till now... its just going do When I played one of Ojukwu's speeches to a Ghanaian friend of mine, he was shocked and asked me if this was a Nigerian and what year it was... (1960s) ... even Gowon and ATB expressed themselves quite well....
But today when our leaders are speaking... either its that house speaker that blows big words only he understands, or they're expressing themselves with much ambiguity and leaving people to draw coclusions from right left and centre.
Change is coming. I believe it is. As the world is changing rapdily with improved technology, things can only get better.

Once again,
At topic, the mindset I have, and i think for a lot of Abians both home and abroad is to gain personal success and subsequently a place where we can help effect change, by impacting peoples olives, directly and indirectly; and ho wit usually happens is people start from their villages If the Lord hears my cry and blesses me as Jabez that cried unto the Lord, heaven knows how much I want to do to help, starting with people with disabilities.
I believe I can be the Messiah, and as Asha80 said, we hope that whoever gets in the place of effecting chang will be a person with the heart of M. Okpara as he said. abia is God's own State, unu anugo!

That others might have said the same thing and not done it doesnt mean another saying the same won't do it...

I always shake my head each time i see you take hook, line and sinker false info just because it aligns with your interests, and cite it everytime and everywhere you want to protect such biases of yours.
I've never heard of anything like a "debtto GDP ratio" ...
how on earth can a state use its GDP to settle its debts? Maybe I can learn something new...
