PoliticsRe: Subsidy Removal:GEJ Ready For Mass Revolt by Remii(m): 10:18pm On Dec 11, 2011
Subsidy has already been removed from Diesel and Aviation fuel which are the main input in economy drivers. All industrial heavy machines and home generators run on diesel, what they about to remove is for petrol which are mainly used by light vehicle and generators. If power supply improves to reduce dependence on diesel, economy should survive subsidy removal and be better for it. if and only if, saved fund would not end up in private accounts.

@Judek2: there is no need to insult one another, it is also not cool quoting out of context. take a look at following extracts from Bible also, are these peaceful pieces? they are all claimed to be statements of Jesus Christ, but if you read before and beyond those verses you may understand that they are continuation of discussion and the whole message is not meant to be violent.

Blagojevich Sentenced to 14 Years
By Chris Bury | ABC News – Wed, Dec 7, 2011,

A federal judge today sentenced impeached Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich to 14 years in prison, giving little weight to Blagojevich's first-ever apology this morning since his arrest three years ago.

"The jury didn't believe you and neither did I," U.S. District Court Judge James Zagel said.

Blagojevich was convicted on 18 corruption charges, including the scheme to peddle the vacated Senate seat of Barack Obama.

Blagojevich started the day telling the court that he was "unbelievably sorry" for his "terrible mistakes," his last chance to convince the federal judge that he deserved some mercy when he was sentenced on corruption charges.
"I'm here convicted of crimes. The jury decided I was guilty. I am accepting of it. I acknowledge it…" Blagojevich told Zagel. "I want to apologize to the people of Illinois, to the court, for the mistakes I have made. … I never set out to break the law.   "I never set out to cross lines. I have nobody to blame but myself for my stupidity and actions and the things I did and I thought I could do. I'm not blaming anybody," Blagojevich said.
Prosecutors argued that he has failed the people of Illinois and instead "further eroded the public's confidence in government and government officials."

"He knew from a very early date exactly what he could do to help the people of Illinois and he didn't do it," federal prosecutor Reid Schar said. "Instead, what he did was first to seek personal benefits, jobs, millions of dollars, and things for him in relation to the Senate seat.

"He lied repeatedly, concretely, and on issues that went to the heart of the case and he lied on every episode that he was questioned," Schar said. "He is incredibly manipulative, and he knows how to be."

In setting a conciliatory note, Blagojevich's lawyers have already admitted - for the first time - that it was against the law for Blagojevich to seek a high-level Washington job in return for an appointment to Barack Obama's vacated Senate seat. They also made a case for mercy, reading letters from Blagojevich's wife and oldest daughter.

His wife, Patti, cried Tuesday during the first day of the sentencing hearing as a defense attorney read her plea to U.S. District Judge James Zagel: "The punishment that he fears the most, one that would be most devastating would be that he would not be able to see his daughters grow. Please be merciful."

Defense lawyers argued that because Blagojevich received no money in his assorted schemes to peddle his power, he does not deserve extended time behind bars: "We are asking for the lowest sentence possible."

Judge Zagel earlier sided with prosecutors in key rulings that could help determine the prison sentence. Zagel agreed that evidence showed supporters of  U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., were offering $1.5 million in campaign contributions in exchange for the Senate appointment, a dollar figure that factors into sentencing even though Blagojevich never got the money.

Zagel also agreed that federal guidelines allow for a maximum term of 30 years to life, although such a lengthy term "would be simply not appropriate in the context of this case."

Former federal prosecutor Ronald Safer expects Zagel to hand down a sentence of 12 to 15 years, he told ABC News, sending a strong message of deterrence to corrupt politicians that "those of you out for personal gain will be separated from your families for a very, very long time."

Since the 1970s, three former Illinois governors have been sent to prison, not to mention several others who have gotten in trouble with the law.

If Blagojevich is sent to jail today, he will join George Ryan, a Republican who was governor from 1999 to 2003, who is serving a prison sentence. After a scandal involving the illegal sale of government licenses, contracts and leases by state employees, Ryan was convicted of corruption in 2006.

But Ryan was merely following in the footsteps of those who came before him. Otto Kerner Jr., a Democrat who was governor from 1961 to 1968, was convicted in 1973 on 17 counts of bribery, conspiracy, perjury and related charges.

Dan Walker, a Democrat who was governor from 1973 to 1977, pleaded guilty to bank fraud, misapplication of funds and perjury in 1987. Walker was sentenced to seven years in prison.

ABC News' Olivia Katrandjian contributed to this report.

Nigeria Sacks Minister Of Sports

By African Outlook Reporter

President Goodluck Jonathan has terminated the appointment of the Minister of Sports, Yusuf Suleiman with immediate effect.

A statement from the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity Doctor Reuben Abati says this is to afford him the opportunity to focus fully on the pursuit of his declared political ambition

President Jonathan thanked the former Minister for his services to the nation and wished him success in his future endeavor

The former sports minister is said to be keen on becoming the next governor of Sokoto state.

Many sports analysts however believe the Minister may have been relieved of his duty owing to the poor performances of all the Nigeria's national teams in international competitions.

The Nigeria's Super Eagles failed to qualify for the nations cup final and the Under-23 national team are still struggling to qualify for the Olympic finals in the on-going 2012 Olympic qualification tournament in Morroco.

The Nigerian could be playing their last game in Morocco when they face Algeria in Marrakech on Friday.

The Nigerian team suffered back-to-back defeats to Morocco (0-1) and Senegal (1-2) and now bank on a mathematical chance of progressing to the semifinals at the Caf Under-23 Championship.

All the Group A teams - Morocco, Algeria, Senegal and Nigeria - stand a chance to reach the last four based on a series of permutations.

However, Nigeria's chance of progress depends on two scenarios - beating Algeria by at least 3-0 or a three-goal margin of any kind while Morocco defeat Senegal by any one-goal margin.

One thing I've noticed about my Yoruba brothers is that they are cowards.

AWOLOWO. He was always waiting for someone to do something for him, typical of a Yoruba man. The 1966 coup was meant to swear him in as the new president. The coup failed, so he denied ever knowing of such a plot. He traded sides with Fulanis against the igbos during  the war, so that he could be installed as president after the war. Murtala's death gave him further hope of being a president, afterall, his kins man (OBASANJO) was the head of state. obasanjo did not hand over to him and that was the best chance he had at been a president before taking his life  outof frustration. ( he drank otapiapia)
Abiola.   Abioa wined and dined with the military. Obasanjo, Abacha, Babangida, Vatsa,  were all his friends. Abiola single handedly sponsored buhari and babangida's coup. Final preparations were made in his daughter's naming ceremony few weeks to the Babangida's coup. Like a typical yoruba man, he wanted things to be done for him(coward). unfortunately for him, his fulani friends betrayed him and he was  denied of his so called mandate and was locked in the prison like a common criminal. He was later poisoned by his fulani friends and nothing was done about it in the west. He died a church rat. His kinsmen collected bribes after his death from thesame fulani"friends". Do we need to talk about saro wiwa? The civil war has always been about the fulanis and their quest to rule Nigeria. You cannot take it away from them. Have you forgotten about Usman Dan Fodio? his life was all about a conquest and that"s what his generations are still doing. Nigeria to a Fulani man is a conquest.
After everything, what did he get.Sack. His mates like danjuma, murtala, obj.ibb went on to become head of states or getting juicy poilitical appointments. But the illiterate got fired and nothing was ever heard of him again
Why do you have to call a whole tribe coward, Yoruba showed enough bravery in the Nigeria amry. 3rd marine commando that captues most of the southern biafra including port Harcourt was commanded by Youribas, Adekunle, Obasanjo and Alani Akinrinde in that other. Even during the war, the navy and the air forces were led by Adewale Wey and Shittu Alao respectively.

Are you calling the likes of Isola Williams, Idiagbon, Olutoye, Ademulegun, Adekunle Fajuyi cowards?

Awolowo was in prison more than 2 years before the 1966 coup. How do you think the coupists had discussion with him or his consent to plan a coup? Do you believe that prisoners have such privilege, even as political prisoner? Have ever heard of any army risking his own life for someone else?
So if a people consider all odds before taking strategic decisions, they are equal to cowards?

Even within Biafra, they had problems, Ken saro Wiwa and Adaka Boro were not fighting for Biafra. Ifeajuna did not fight for Biafra, Kaduna Nzeogwu did not fight for Biafra.

Yes, N250k is not small cash, at the same time, not everyone needs to go to university. I don't intend to sound elitist, but that is a fact. Even in advance countries, university education is not cheap. You will hear guys saying "Am working beyond retirement age to see my kids out of college" Some in Nigerian universities right now have no business being there, not only because of their financial status, even in intellectual ability.

If you pay right price you will be serious at school and you will be able to challenge any harassment or intimidation from lectures. I think private Universities and some "expensive?" state universities like Osun State are less know for those ugly traits.

Ex-Borno Governor created Boko Haram – Gen Useni
July 15, 2011  |   Filed under: News  |   Posted by: tunbinext

THE Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni (rtd) yesterday gave an insight into the emergence of the deadly Islamic sect, Boko Haram, saying that the group used to function as a political thuggery cell to a former governor of Borno State.

Speaking for the first time since the Boko Haram menace became a national threat, the immediate past governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has denied insinuations by the Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Lt.-Gen. Jerry Useni (rtd), that a former governor of the state formed the sect to advance his political interest.

The retired army general who spoke with State House correspondents, after separate meetings with President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo also supported the use of force by the Nigeria Army to flush out Boko Haram, saying that “like in war, the soldiers must be working on information on the Boko Haram. Innocent ones would definitely be killed in the process of trying to dislodge the Boko Haram members from their base”.

This is just as the leadership of the ACF called for the convocation of a Northern Peace Summit to discuss and proffer possible solution to the menace of the Islamic sect, currently ravaging the region.

Gen. Useni disclosed that he had earlier warned the former governor against the use of thugs during election, saying that like in Rivers state where thuggery gave birth to militancy, Boko Haram used to be a political thug group; but later metamorphosed into a terror entity.

Useni did not name the governor in question, but while he was the Deputy National Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Sheriff was the governor of Borno State. Sheriff described as lies the allegations that he formed Boko Haram, insisting that the sect had been there years before he became governor.

Meanwhile, more states across the federation are evacuating their indigenes from Borno State on account of the continued killings and unrest in the state, especially as the Joint military Task Force (JTF), a military peace enforcement group, had had running duels with members of the sect resulting in huge casualties.

The ACF, Chairman attributed the emergence of Boko Haram to bad leadership and political thuggery but suggested a summit, as a way out. He said: “There are lots of things responsible for all these and the best way is for us to sit down and tell ourselves the truth”.

According to him, it is for this reason that the ACF is organising Arewa Peace Conference in December this year; stressing that “all the governors will come so that we will sit and talk and our monitoring group will follow up”.

The only righteous part of the Koran is the ones copied from the Bible. But the illiterate man still misquoted the Bible.
Please tell me where these verses of the Quran were copied from, you may also tell me which law of contract is better that this. It is really unfortunate that few misguided folks are killing innocent people, this is against Islamic norms, since there were no history of terrorism or suicide killers during the time of Mohammed or many rightly guided generations after him.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quran 2 verse282: O you who have believed, when you contract a debt for a specified term, write it down. And let a scribe write [it] between you in justice. Let no scribe refuse to write as Allah has taught him. So let him write and let the one who has the obligation dictate. And let him fear Allah , his Lord, and not leave anything out of it. But if the one who has the obligation is of limited understanding or weak or unable to dictate himself, then let his guardian dictate in justice. And bring to witness two witnesses from among your men. And if there are not two men [available], then a man and two women from those whom you accept as witnesses - so that if one of the women errs, then the other can remind her. And let not the witnesses refuse when they are called upon. And do not be [too] weary to write it, whether it is small or large, for its [specified] term. That is more just in the sight of Allah and stronger as evidence and more likely to prevent doubt between you, except when it is an immediate transaction which you conduct among yourselves. For [then] there is no blame upon you if you do not write it. And take witnesses when you conclude a contract. Let no scribe be harmed or any witness. For if you do so, indeed, it is [grave] disobedience in you. And fear Allah . And Allah teaches you. And Allah is Knowing of all things.

Quran 2 verse283 - And if you are on a journey and cannot find a scribe, then a security deposit [should be] taken. And if one of you entrusts another, then let him who is entrusted discharge his trust [faithfully] and let him fear Allah , his Lord. And do not conceal testimony, for whoever conceals it - his heart is indeed sinful, and Allah is Knowing of what you do.
