Both the Senate and House of Representatives have proceeded on 6 weeks recess to "observe" Ramadan fasting. The fasting is 4 weeks so why 6 weeks. Other Nigerian workers are on duty during Ramadan, what is the justification for this. We all read in the newspapers how American Legislators worked through the weekend to prevent first ever Americans government default. Are these set of politicians that will deliver Nigeria from present parambulations? |
Happy Birthday SLS, walal airatul airu laka mi nal ula. May the future even better than the past. Many happy returns of the day long life and prosperity |
Like I once wrote. When you have an interest free banking system, it also means you have a tax free banking system. Since far northern state are muslim. what it means is that they will not be paying taxes. Which is not fair to other nigerian who will be using the regular banks. It means christain would become poorer using the regular banking system. while others would not. For you to have a balance and a fair system. The only solution is to rewrite the tax laws. that only state can collect taxes. It is not fair to a man in River state or Imo state or cross river state, that he would be paying taxes in the banking sector but someone from Bauchi state or sokoto or borno or jigawa etc would not be paying taxes , but would enjoy of the man in imo state taxes. That is not a fair system. Even Muslim will agree that Islam does not also want them to cheat their brother. So to be fair to everybody it would be better state collect all taxes in nigeria. that way. State which want Islamic banking can have it. There is nothing wrong in alternative banking . But it must be done with fair play in mind. This is not done with fair play in mind. one sector of the country can not be paying taxes while the other enjoy interest free taxes. It will only breed hate in Nigeria. For us to create a balance the only solution is to allow states to collect all taxes in Nigeria. That way state which do want Islamic banking for their people should do so. I dont see an honest muslim been oppose to this, expect if that person motive is to cheat other people.
Please be well guided, tax and interest are two different unconnected things. Citizen must pay tax to government to cover running and development of government and the country. so don't confuse people. Those banks will pay government taxes and other statutory charges. 1. When you keep money in the bank, banks have right to charge you administrative cost of keeping your money. 2. You have right to share from profit the bank made from trading with your money. 3. You don't have interest from money kept with bank 4. You don't pay interest on money you borrow from bank. 5. Bank will share profit or loss accrued from the business done with borrowed money. Please get information |
^^^^ My brother, I did not say there was no outcry, there is, both for and against. There is nothing bad in voicing out opinions, that will make all of us feel good and shape policies correctly, but painting opinion of few vocal ones as representative of all is what I think is not proper. |
obailala:There is no public outcry, there is "Islamaphobic Christians that are well connected to biased media outcry". Those who did not see anything bad in calling any criminal and violent acts Islamic even when the perpetrators are killing Muslims, but can't stand associating anything good with Islam. They are not majority and could not be called 100% public, because not all Christians are against Islamic banking, both in name and practice. |
Jarus:You should ask him, Most of the people these guys are killing are Muslims police and soldiers that are fighting them are mostly Muslims, the idea of boko haram is unIslamic since Islam supports education. Muhammad (PBOH) urged Muslims to seek knowledge even if they have to go to China used the example of China because at the time they were pagans, so Muslims are allowed to get educated anywhere the knowledge is available, Arab worlds today have some of the best universities and research centers. It is unfair when action of few criminal are used to judge and insult millions innocent others. |
reloboy:Yes, there Yorubas in Brazil, Cuba and in Oyo Ile in Atlanta. They are decesndant of slaves They were taken from Yorubaland but Yoruba couldn't be taken from them. They practice all idol worshiping of Yorubaland, some of them even give their kids tribal mark till today. They were all represented at the Festac 77. http://www.cultural-expressions.com/ifa/ifahistory.htm "In resent years, availability of attainable air travel has enabled African Americans to go back to the essence from which this great culture derived (Africa) and gather the information needed to teach and assist others. Places like Oyotunji village in Beaufort South Carolina, DOYA (Descendants of the Yoruba in America) foundation in Cleveland OH, Ile Ori Ifa Temple in Atlanta GA, and African Paridise in Grffin GA where Yoruba culture and religion is still practiced, are just a few of many locations that offer a place to reclaim the religion of self awarness, inner strength, inner peace and unlimited power for our evolution" |
The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Jamatul Nasril Islam (JNI), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, Thursday joined issues with opponents of Islamic banking, asking why Islam is being portrayed in bad light in the country. He said there was no going back on the establishment of Islamic banks in the country, further expressing worries about the violence in the North-east. He said: “So many people have said so many things about Islamic banking. Why is it that whenever anything Islamic is mentioned, those who are not Muslims kick against it? That is what we need to ask ourselves here. Is the word Islam bad? Why is it that when anything Muslim is mentioned, it is equated with violence?” The Sultan challenged members of the JNI to spend time on soul-searching over the issues with a poser: “Why is it that anybody who is not a Muslim is afraid of [religion of] peace?” “We have to ask ourselves that question and we have to come out with a solution because I have asked myself many times, but I can’t get an answer because I know what Islam is. Islam is a religion of peace,” he said. He also said Muslims would not succumb to any intimidation or blackmail from anybody and decried the manner in which non-Muslims often try to stop Muslims from living their way of life. He asked: “What is there to be afraid of in Islam? If Muslims want a particular way of life as Muslims, why should anybody try to stop them? But if it is the other way round it is good, but if it is for Muslims, it is bad! So these are challenges to us. “We don’t have to be violent in giving responses, but if we have taken note, I have not said a single word on these two issues. But we have done much, much more than anybody else could have done to get the answers, but we are on our way and non-interest banking has come to stay, so we don’t have to fight. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have repasted what the guy said again, Those calling him names, what exactly did he say that was out of place or violent. Everyone in Borno cannot be said to be bombers, we all know that when military are called to a place they kill and kill until they achieve peace somehow,. They did it in Odi, Saka biam and other places. When they did, elders of those areas did not say bravo, they all ask that they should dialoge with the bad boys. We need to read with some understanding and not responding with our mind sets. |
When OIC offered Nigeria non-interest loan for augmenting its deficit budget, Nigeria hate theologians condemned the worthy proposal and discouraged the Federal Government through media outburst and blackmails. Thereafter, Nigeria opted for IMF loan with its killing and inhuman compounded interest. The option of IMF loan worsened the nation’s Public Debt, increased the debt burden and created serious financial crisis. President Olusegun Obasanjo captured the predicament of Nigeria under the peonage of IMF loan and its merciless interest rate thus: "All that we had borrowed up to 1985 was around $5 billion, and we have paid about $16 billion; yet we are still being told that we owe about $28 billion. That $28 billion came about because of the injustice in the foreign creditors' interest rates. If you ask me what the worst thing in the world is, I will say it is interest"! |

LFJ:That is the main issue with Naija man, and no level of education or exposure has been able to affect that. Nigeria man will complain of this and that, when he has opportunity to change the situation in his own favour , he allows other mundane reasoning to cloud his minds. What a shame. msheeew |
Nigeria is not a secular state: Read following clauses from 1999 Constitution. Preamble:We the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Having firmly and solemnly resolve, to live in unity and harmony as one indivisible and indissoluble sovereign nation under God, dedicated to the promotion of inter-African solidarity, world peace, international co-operation and understanding And to provide for a Constitution for the purpose of promoting the good government and welfare of all persons in our country, on the principles of freedom, equality and justice, and for the purpose of consolidating the unity of our people Do hereby make, enact and give to ourselves the following Constitution:- ----------------------------------------------- Section 38 of Nigeria Constitution: (1) Every person shall be entitled to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom (either alone or in community with others, and in public or in private) to manifest and propagate his religion or belief in worship, teaching, practice and observance. (2) No person attending any place of education shall be required to receive religious instruction or to take part in or attend any religious ceremony or observance if such instruction ceremony or observance relates to a religion other than his own, or religion not approved by his parent or guardian. (3) No religious community or denomination shall be prevented from providing religious instruction for pupils of that community or denomination in any place of education maintained wholly by that community or denomination. (4) Nothing in this section shall entitle any person to form, take part in the activity or be a member of a secret society. |
edicolove:What do you call Inspiration Radio 92.3 FM owned by Akingbola or ECWA Radio Igbaja, Kwara State owned by Evangelical Church Of West Africa- ELWA? Nigeria is not a secular state check the 1999 constitution Preamble, Section 10 and Section 38 for clarificaions. |
Akinwaleya:Nigeria, It is very unfortunate that religious guys are always creating problem that will consume others that they claim are their followers. Banks are purely private institutions govt get involved as facilitators and Regulators so that few guys will not clean out the venerable public. Islamic banking name should not be changed, We all have accepted Chrismas bonus as part of our remunerations, have accepted Eid Kabir public holidays, we have accepted weekends as Saturday and Sundays regardless of our religious affiliations. So if the correct name is Islamic so shall it be. |
henry101:So Abia does not have any meaning just like Bayelsa that was formed from names of 3 Local Government areas – Brass, Yenagoa and Sagbama. Zoning and "equal representation don they worry Nigeria tete. |
Na today? 9 out 10 uneducated or less educated men such as artisans and traders who train girls in higher schools are used and dumped because the girl suddenly realised she is too educated for the man or out classed the poor man. |
The Islamic bank is just a product such as other banking products, all banks have option where you can say "I don't want interest paid on my account", the only addition is that costumers now have option of borrowing without interest but sharing of accrued profit and loss. simple. Nigeria and religious bias. I am sure if it was Nigeria, Emirates and Etihad stadiums that are now in UK for Arsenal and Manchester city would be fought to standstill since they from Muslim Arabs. |
Are these men that Ringim has to stop Boko Haram?

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-118241.64.html Check that link but Please read the whole trend. I use them, but just like others, I dont take their advice without personal due diligence since most of them depend on speculations. |
Jang is saying the obvious, no news at all. Everyone knows it is not easy to even buy and own a toy guy in Naija talkless of having private armory. During Yar adua regime, the army tried and dismissed some soldiers and officers for selling JTF armmunitions to MEND. |
numen:What do you call this, when a mad man decides to blow himself up or kill innocent people, he is Islamic Militant even if he does not pray in the mosque or kill Muslims. Now a banking system that was evolved by Muslims, must dropped any reference to Islam before it is acceptable. Is this hypocrisy, hatred or what . |

@all4naija 10. The Government of the Federation or of a State shall not adopt any religion as State Religion. That is how the 1999 constitution puts it. I don't think it means not religion, I think it means no religion is adoptable at the detriment of others. No religion would be favoured above others, no religion would be superior over another. Maybe lawyers in the house can help with interpretation. |
Below is CBN guidelines on the interest fee banking. It removes all Islamic fears. this is taken from CBN website. CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA PRESS RELEASE CBN Issues New Guidelines for Non-Interest Banking The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued new guidelines for the operation of Non-interest banking in Nigeria. The new guidelines are the outcome of the review of the earlier guidelines issued based on the recommendations of various stakeholders. The new guidelines clarify the contextual definition of Non-interest banking which is not restricted to Islamic banking, but also include other form of non-interest banking not based on Islamic principle. This is in accordance with the provisions of Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA) which clearly provide for the two variants of Non-interest banking. This ensures that discrimination on any grounds in the participation by individuals or institutions as promoters, depositors or other relevant parties in any transaction regarding a non-interest financial institutions, whether based on Islamic or other model, is strictly prohibited. Another significant review is the removal of any reference to Sharia Council which has been changed to Advisory Council of Experts whose responsibility is to advise the CBN on the appropriateness of relevant financial products to be offered by the institutions. For the avoidance of doubt, section 23 (1) and section 66 of the BOFIA 1991, (as amended) explicitly provide for the licensing of Non-Interest Banks (NIBs). The CBN is obliged, by law, to issue licenses to appropriate entities for the establishment of NIBs provided they meet the regulatory requirements for licenses. In view of this, the CBN is open to receiving and evaluating applications for licensing of non-interest banking institutions based on other principles rather than the Islamic variant and will soon issue separate guidelines for non-interest banking under other principles. all4naija:Nigeria is a multi religious state. Secular states don't have Chrismas and Eld holidays. as for those doubting Islamic Scholars contributions to the world, I do not want to derail the trend by expantiating on that. What I want to imply is that you don't throw away the baby with the dirty water. It does not make economic sense to reject interest free banking just because it originated from Muslims. |
