Politics › Re: It Won’t Be Easy Liberating Lagos From Tinubu’s Grip, PDP Admits by Resener12(m): 8:17am On Jan 02, 2019 |
nairavsdollars: Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State chapter, on Tuesday said it would be a herculean task wresting power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos during the forthcoming governorship elections.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the candidate of the APC will square up with Jimi Agbaje of the PDP and other candidates in the governorship election.
Speaking with Daily Independent, Dr. Adegbola Dominic, the state chairman of PDP, said while he was confident that PDP would terminate APC’s rule in the state and liberate Lagosians, he was aware that it would be a daunting task, given the firm grip of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on the state.
According to Dominic, aside the fact that the APC controlled the state resources, it was also using security agencies, especially the police, to its advantage.
He said: “It won’t be easy, given his firm grip on the state and the fact that they have been in power since 1999.
“They are in control of the state and local governments and they also have the resources of the state at their disposal. But we have the people on our side and that is the confidence we have.
“Also, when you consider the high rate of poverty in the land, they will want to resort to vote-buying. They also control the police in the state and at the national level.
“We all saw what happened in Osun State. It was the security agencies versus PDP and they will want to do the same in other places, especially Lagos, but we are prepared for them.
“We are also appealing to the police to be impartial in all they do. If they are impartial, there is no question about it, PDP will win.
“We are talking to the people and giving them the message of hope. The APC are master riggers. We all know they rigged the last governorship election in Lagos State but that will not happen anymore. So, we are telling Lagosians to get their PVCs, vote wisely and shine their eyes.
“On our part, we will tighten all loopholes and ensure every vote counts. We will make sure APC didn’t succeed with their rigging this time around. I am very positive that this time around, the time is up for APC in Lagos.
“The good people of Lagos are determined to kick them out. Look at what is going on in the town; bad roads and filth everywhere, yet people are being heavily burdened with tax.
“People are unhappy with APC rule in Lagos and they are seeking a credible alternative. I can assure them PDP will provide that credible alternative in 2019.”
Dominic also lamented that its campaign for the elections had been greatly affected by the destruction of its billboards and posters by APC supporters.
He, however, said the PDP would not respond in kind but appeal to the police to call those behind the nefarious act to order.
“It is very worrisome and it has greatly affected our operations. We are now very cautious about posting posters.
“Some people have suggested that we should also organise our people to start destroying their banners and posters but that is not in our character.
“We have complained to the police to warn them not to destroy our posters anymore and we hope they will listen and stop. But we are not going to retaliate,” he said.

teufelein: DESTROYING ALLEGED IGBO DOMINATION BY MINORITY ETHNIC GROUPS IN THE OLD EASTERN REGION
lgbophobia in Niger Delta.
Written by Efa-Iwa Rex Egbe
"Some weeks back, I made a rebuttal about the erroneous and mischievous rants of some of my (our) misinformed "Niger Delta" brothers. First and foremost let me tell you all a little story for the avoidance of doubt, I’m from the Agbo ethnic group in Cross River State, we are located in Abi Local Government Area which is a coastal settlement and unarguably the smallest LGA in Cross River State in terms of landmass and to a large extent population slightly a few thousands ahead of Bakassi LGA.
My fore bearers both on my maternal and paternal side were given the opportunity to serve in then Eastern Nigeria regional government, My grand uncle Dr. S E Imoke of blessed memory was an all influential cabinet minister in the regime of M I Okpara he held the Trade portfolio and was also Finance minister at a time until the unfortunate incident of January 1966 he was the longest serving Education minister his son the urbane Liyel Imoke is the immediate past Governor of our state “Cross River”, during the outbreak of the War he was the Biafran Commissioner for Refugees and Humanitarian affairs.
Aside South East, one of my maternal uncles also served as Permanent Secretary in the ministry of health at Enugu. My maternal grand father was also a frontline member of the Eastern Nigeria regional house of Chiefs alongside other minority chiefs like Chief Offem of Ugep, Ndoma-Egba of Ikom amongst others.
The Chairman of the very powerful and most influential House of Chiefs was Chief Nyong Essien, OBE an Ibibio High chief of a not so prominent chiefdom “not the Obi of Onitsha nor the Igwe of any other powerful Igbo city”.
Outside my family circles, another great Cross Riverian MT Mbu was nominated a Federal Minister of Transport and Navy by the Igbo controlled NCNC. It’s on record that Mbu was Nigeria’s first Ambassador to the UK, UN, and U.S and he's from Boki in Cross River state.
Boki is another minority ethnic group just like my native Agboland. The Igbos gave him the opportunity to excel ahead of their own worthy sons at that time, he is the father to Senator. M.T Mbu jr, another person who is noteworthy is the late Chief. Michael Eta-Ogon who was the Administrator of the oil rich Port Harcourt province in the first republic he is also from the same Boki with Mbu.
Thomas Weir Ikpeme an Efik man from Odukpani in my native Cross River was the longest serving Permanent Secretary in the Eastern Regional Ministry of Education, the key point is that the Igbo’s were comfortable with us “the minorities” that was why they entrusted education solely in our hands, not only education but other critical areas like Public Works and Transport etc.
N.U Akpan an Ibibio man from Akwa Ibom state was the technocrat behind the eastern regional public service, he was the Secretary to the regional government, Anwana Esin a man from Oron in Akwa Ibom state, Oron is a distinct and small riverine ethnic group was the Eastern Regional Minister of Local government.
So also was Ibanga Akpabio, an Annang man from Ukana in present day Akwa Ibom state was the regional minister of Internal Affairs, the former Governor of Akwa Ibom state Godswill Akpabio is his nephew, they were other high ranking cabinet ministers of minority origin like one of our family good friends, HRH. Amanyanabo EP Okoya,Agada III the Ibenanowei of Ekpetiama in Bayelsa State.
Chief Erekosinma of Rivers and a whole lot of others who are too numerous to mention.During the secessionist struggle, an Ogoni from Rivers state, Chief Ignatius Kogbara was Biafra’s Ambassador to Britain.
My dad’s friend Chief Lekam Okoi from Idomi in present day Yakurr LGA of Cross River state was one of Ojukwu’s trusted drivers, he is today a successful lawyer and a former Commissioner in the Federal Character Commission, Capt. Akpet a minority from Cross River was also Ojukwu’s dependable aide on intelligence.
Secondly for the avoidance of doubt, aside these political appointments, our people enjoyed immense goodwill from the Igbo dominated region by way of social security, my dad’s immediate elder brother received a scholarship from the regional government that enabled him study for a PhD in soil science.
He is the first man “arguably” in Africa to obtain a doctorate in Soil science and i have friends across the Niger Delta whose parents, uncles, aunties and relatives also benefited from the benevolence of the regional government. It is also a known fact that our Niger Delta region received it’s last major facelift in terms of infrastructure when we were under the Eastern region.
Till the abolition of the regional system of government the Eastern region was the most united region, they was never a recorded case of ethnic skirmish or BLOOD letting between the Igbo’s and other minority groups, during the pogrom of 1966 we all carried the same cross to “Golgotha”, both Igbos and Eastern minorities where maimed in their thousands across Northern Nigeria by the blood thirsty Hausa/Fulani and the Northern folks without blinking an eye.
It doesn’t really matter if you were Igbo, Ijaw, Efik or a miniature Agbo person. I never really wanted to bore you with reading this lengthy essay but it’s my moral responsibility to tell the truth at all times, I was taught by my fore bearers never to distort history and to always separate facts from fictions.
If we were not marginalized by the Igbos during the “analogue” age, how then can the Igbos marginalize us in this digital age and time? The fear, misgivings and misconceptions of Igbo dominance by most of my (our) Niger Delta people who are poor students of history are unconscionable and unfounded.
Moreover there is no family in our region without Igbo relatives and blood. So the cry is a much ado about nothing. "Man must know thyself, and to thyself be true".

Politics › Re: Report: Corruption In Military Responsible For Faltering B’haram War by Resener12(m): 10:20am On Dec 30, 2018 |
actiondrilling: Massive corruption among top military chiefs appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari is the reason Nigeria is losing the war against Boko Haram, the Defense and Foreign Affairs has revealed in its Special Analysis released on December 28.
The Defense and Foreign Affairs reports are published by the International Strategic Studies Association (ISSA) based in the United States of America. ISSA is a Washington-based non-governmental organisation with a worldwide membership of professionals involved in national and international security and strategic policy.
The association, in 1998, took over publication of the Defense and Foreign Affairs publishing and information group, which began in 1972, providing strategic information and analysis to governments worldwide. It also incorporates the Global Information System (GIS), an encrypted on-line intelligence service for governments.
President of ISSA, Gregory Copley, told Akelicious yesterday night that their analyses were not released to the public but to governments the organisation had affiliation with. Investigation shows that not less than 160 countries have some form of affiliation to the organisation’s reports.
Asked specifically if the organisation had any affiliation with Nigeria, Coley, replied, “All I can say is that our report go to all countries we have some form of affiliation with. I will not comment on specific cases.”
The report obtained by Akelicious is damning and blames corruption among higher ups in the military high command for the faltering war against Boko Haram. Extracts from the analysis stated that at present, the Nigerian government had completely and comprehensively lost control of the engagement with Boko Haram and could show no instance when the government presently had tactical, theater, strategic, or information dominance of any aspect of the conflict. According to the report, the insurgent groups grow stronger, and the government forces grow weaker and more beset by morale collapse.
It said, “It is fair to say that the Nigerian intelligence community itself is no longer sure what groups even comprise ‘Boko Haram’, nor has it addressed the international logistical, ideological, and support aspects contributing to the ongoing viability of the groups.”
The report stated that the leadership of the military, rather than concentrating on how to defeat the insurgents, were preoccupied with how to stop the leakage of information about massive corruption that had taken place on the pretext of fighting Boko Haram.
Excerpts from the report states as follows, “The conflict will almost certainly prove the undoing of the present government of President Muhammadu Buhari at the February 16, 2019, presidential elections.
“Despite this, the only significant engagement which the Nigerian military leadership — up to and including the National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. (rtd.) Mohammed Babagana Monguno – seems to prioritise is the fight to stop the leakage of information about massive corruption, running into the equivalent of several billions of dollars, in the purchase by senior military officers of major military capital goods and military consumables, including the troops’ own food.
“The conduct of the war in the North is tied to the corruption in the military, and Buhari — ring-fenced by his own team — is unable to tackle the issue.
“His poor health does not help, but he had always (even as a military president, taking office on December 31, 1983) been indecisive and vindictive.
“This ongoing set of characteristics mean that the coming months will be dramatic, even more than the dying days of the preceding administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.
“It is significant that Buhari, who received the findings of the commission as much as a year ago, has refused to allow it to be made public and he, through National Security Adviser Monguno, has attempted to have the commission disband.
“However, it is believed that Monguno and Buhari are aware that copies of the report are beyond their reach and could be released unofficially if further attempts are made to assassinate commission members.
“The commission, investigating defense procurement from 2007 onwards, made significant strides which were initially accepted by the Buhari government, until the scope of the inquiry went beyond the period relating to the former government of Pres. Goodluck Jonathan, and began to show corruption patterns extending into officers still serving under President Buhari.”
The report stated that the death of a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal (rtd.) Alex Sabundu Badeh (who became Chief of Defence Staff), and that of a former Chief of Administration of the Nigerian Army, Major General Idris Alkali, on September 3, 2018 were not a mere coincidence .
It said, “Given the upsurge in momentum by ‘the highest levels of government’ to stop the findings becoming public from the corruption commission on defense procurement, it is plausible that the attribution of a criminal ‘kidnapping-attempt-gone-wrong’ against the Air Chief Marshal was a convenient excuse to ensure that the victim — Badeh — could not divulge in court the pattern and details of corruption which has grown even more rampant in the current generation of defense leadership.
“On September 3, 2018, the retired Chief of Administration of the Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Idris Alkali, was also killed, ostensibly by a gang of youthful protestors who set up a roadblock near Jos, the capital of Plateau State. His body was discovered on October 31, 2018. And his death was blamed on ‘an irate mob’, who were protesting in the Du-ra-Du community against the September 2, 2018, killing of 11 members of their own community.”
The report further stated, “No significant economic or political progress can be achieved in Nigeria until the issue of the Boko Haram insurgency is resolved. Other insurgencies are also expected to emerge, or re-emerge, particularly in the Niger Delta. And while other pending internal security issues are important, it is on the BH issue that the prestige, credibility, and reliability of Nigeria is assessed by the international community. Thus, all questions of the viability of Nigeria as a candidate for inward foreign direct investment (FDI) and international cooperation are dependent on a resolution of the BH issues.
“Domestically, resolution of the BH issue is a pre-requisite to enabling issues of intra-Nigerian regional equity imbalances to be addressed. Moreover, the credibility of the Federal Government as an arbiter of justice is assessed by the domestic electorate and the world community.”
However, the Nigerian Armed Forces have consistently denied any allegation of corruption against the leadership. They have also stated and demonstrated the fact that they are capable of not only stopping the insurgents but rooting them out of the country.
Two days ago, army spokesman, Brig. General Sani Kukasheka Usman, said the nation’s military repelled an attack by the insurgents in Baga, Boro State. According to him, the insurgents on Wednesday, December 26 attacked the 7 Brigade of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), based in Baga, Borno State, about 7pm.
A statement issued by Usman read, “The troops along with their Nigerian Navy counterparts put up a very determined fight to repel the attack throughout the night, while Sector 3 Operation LAFIYA DOLE sent in reinforcement who are in hot pursuit of the terrorists.
“Similarly, a Search and Rescue team has been constituted.
“The Nigerian Air Force component has also been mobilised and are engaging the fleeing terrorists. Unfortunately, a naval personnel was killed in action. So far, no further details of casualties yet as efforts are ongoing to clear the terrorists hiding in Baga and environs.”

dainformant: A woman who was kidnapped by suspected ritualists in Akure, Ondo state, has narrated her horrifying experience. The victim identified as Oyebade Funke was reportedly abducted last Thursday, 27th December, 2018. According to her, she escaped from their den by a divine intervention.
Speaking with Omo Edema, Funke explained that she went to collect a new ATM Card at the First City Monument Bank (FCMB) in Oshinle area of Akure, when she fell into the hand of a commercial motorcyclist who called her by her name and claimed to have once lived in her father's house a long time ago when she was still a little girl. This made her greet him cheerfully before entering his motorcycle.
She said, “We left the place, heading towards my destination; a guy just shouted ‘brother’ and began to greet the bike man long time as if it had been long they saw last. The bike man apologized to me as he stopped to greet the guy. He eventually asked where the guy was going to and he mentioned market square area which fell on the same road with where I was going.
“The bike man pleaded with me to allow the guy sit behind my back on the motorcycle since he was not going far. I accepted them without suspecting any evil”, explained the victim.
She said the bike man asked her of address and she mentioned the area and also asked where she was going from the bank. She said as the guy sat at her back and they were moving, she lost her senses immediately.
According to her, she discovered she became weak and the bike man headed for a different direction entirely.
Funke said when it was around 3pm, they came in and began to attend to the captives one after the other. She said they brought in calabashes; one with a cover taped with a red piece of cloth while other calabashes were empty.
“I had concluded that was my end. But when the ritual got to my turn, they placed the calabash on my head and placed an empty one in front of me. I did not vomit blood. They questioned me again that who was behind me, but I could not respond to them. “I heard them say my head refused to harbour evil.
Another person among them said yes if she refused to vomit that would still not stop the parts of her body from being used for some other things. But one among them said they had no buyers of parts of the body for now.”
According to her, “they blindfolded me again and returned me exactly the way and manner they brought me.”

goldcoinhub: Nollywood Actor, Wale Adebayo, popularly known as Sango, has opened up on reason why he left Nigeria for the United States of America and it was simply because he wasn't getting enough out of acting.
In a chat with Sunday Scoop, the actor stated that he didn’t wish to relocate to the United States of America at the time he did, but his living condition and that of his family was already deteriorating and so he didn't have any option but to seek a greener pasture.
He said:
“For me, relocating to America wasn’t by choice; the situation of Nigeria played a huge factor in it. At some point, I told myself that I had a family to feed and the industry wasn’t as favourable as it should be. I stopped thinking about myself alone and the need to save my acting career. I wanted to do something for my kids.”
Adebayo added that after relocating to America, he ventured into something new. He stated,
“It wasn’t easy for me to leave what I enjoyed doing for another life in America. But the most important thing is that I am not where I was four or seven years ago. I am in a better place now and my family is more comfortable.”
The Yoruba actor also lamented that it was quite disheartening that despite the effort he put into his acting career, he didn’t get the best from it.
He said:
“I did everything to make a living out of acting but it just didn’t work for me. That is why I respect the likes of Richard Mofe Damijo, Ramsey Nouah, Kate Henshaw and Sola Sobowale. Even when they disappeared from the scene for some years, it seemed they never left once they returned. I call it grace. I have also learnt that an actor should never relax even though he has made a huge impact.”
