Hamas was part of the peace agreement ever since. The only problem is the Israeli leadership across the board was not ready and did not trust Hamas with political leadership. Instead it trusted the PLO led by Late Yasser Arafat to lead the Palestinians into a new state.
Reason is: it is aligned with Hezbollah of Iran ..

After Arafats death, Mahmoud Abbas took over as the leader of the PLO and after his first tenure. General elections were held and Hamas won the absolute majority.

The reason for the current war is because of the refusal of the Israeli authorities to recognize Hamas as the rightful winner of that elections,hence it's preference for the PLOs Mahmoud Abbas who lost.

President Bill Clinton was the first US President to bring both sides to the round table to discuss peace and a two state solution. President Yasser Arafat and the then Israeli prime Minister who was later killed by a right wing jew, Yitzhak Rabin.

This was 1993 and the agreement was known as the Oslo Accords which was backed by the UN and a two state solution that both should exist side by side and in peace.

I watched a video on Tiktok detailing how there have been attempts to settle this matter 5 times over the years by splitting the land to two so Palestine has it's nation. Unfortunately, each time it's Palestine that disagrees because all they want is the nonexistence of Israel which isn't possible. It seems they're ably supported by Iran/Hezbollah while Egypt has been a mediator.

It is not the Palestinians leadership nor the Israelis that did not agree. It is the bureaucrats and politicians in Washington and the Western capitals of the world that have refused to support a two state solution for several reasons.

The current political make up called Israel was a project by these same Western countries over a period of five hundred years. If you look at the portrait of George Washington, you will find the locket on his neck is in semblance with the map of the state of Israel.

The importance of Israel to the Western world is both is historically economic, political and military.

When you reduce it to religion, you may not get the real history of these crisis.
