um you actually do need to live in america
so says the lady that thinks blacks refer only to African-Americans or that you have to speak with a certain black American accent to be black. . Lol . So American of you.
Sorry dear but you are not making any sense rooted from facts or reality, obviously, you are not the only black female with half Nigerian parentage living in the US, still water does and thinks otherwise. So it is with many black people living in different parts of the U.S, may be where you live in the US, African- Americans consider themselves as the only black people in America, tell them to wake up from their delusions, they are not the only black people that feel black or are realy black in every sense of the word. Tell them there are people who have whose forebearers have been black before theirs and they do not have the monopoly of deciding who is black and who is not. Nuff said.
YES man. They wouldn't call you black but they'd call you African first. Have you been to the U.S.?
or they won't use the word all together if it comes to that. That is why they refer to them as Afro or African-American. There is no how a white guy will refer to them as black Americans on national TV on and not get a backlash from the AA community. I don't need to live or be in America to know these common facts giving the way the AA community make a big deal out of it.
No, I said most wouldn't consider you "black" in the sense that you're black black like them.

Black or AA, since I don't have an accent.
hahahaha. . .you seem to be trying very hard to paint a picture hear dear. So they consider you less black if you don't speak with black American accent, right? Will I be any blacker if I spoke with a jamo bomboclact kinda accent or even british? Obviously, it now boils down to accent. That is a new one, people in America are considered black if and if only they speak with the black american accent. . Lol
Does it occur to you that non-black might consider this view quite differently as to who they call or consider as a black person? So you are saying in formal settings in America only African Americans are referred to as black, realy?

In terms of socio-political classifications we might be different but the biological definition of being black in America especially is what I can't seem to wrap my head around as it has obviously assumed a whole lot of meaning. I know there use to be times when AA resented being called black because according to them it is offensive, how come now it is generally agreed to be the description of AA. Lol. . I even recall that some even have problems with being called African-American: their argument is that besides having cone from thesame ancestors with Africans, they have nothing else in common with us. Yet they want to chose for us who is black and who is not? This is so absurd. Again, I ask, who is a black person or what does it mean to you. Am sure you know it pre-dates African-Americans.

The Ball was to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the organization and raise funds to build a memorial to honor their founder, Mary McLeod-Bethune.Nations in attendance: Ghana, Israel, Puerto Rico, Senegal, Nigeria, South Africa, India, South Korea, Sierra Leone, Bermuda, Jamaica, and China.
exactly the premise of my earlier argument, instead of the alienating "strong black woman" or always playing the race card- even when we can easily gather ourselves and achieve an aim without neccessarily alienating others to our cause- we can realign our pursuit and make it an all-inclusive aim like conferences like this one does. It is high time black women take off that tough "strong black woman" toga that can be alienating and just approach their struggle in a different way that give others the opportunity empathize with them and also share their own experiences too.
My dad is AA and my mom is nigerian. You don't see AAs discussing nigerian issues or nigerians. When people mention black people in the context of the U.S. then they're only talking about AAs, not any other black group. Dude just look at the majority of threads made about AAs, they're always hostile, ALWAYS! The funny thing is you don't see AAs on this site.
lol. . Are you seriously insinuating that general statements such as Mr Hughely only affect black people of the AA communities? You seem to overlook the population of black African immigrants in the U.S. Let's not make assertive statements that defiles common sense, this is not the 60s anymore, there is now a sizeable African Immigrant population in the US whose presence are not just passive. Saying a phrase like "black people" only refers to the the black people of AA communities is a little dumb, no insult intended just stating a fact.
As for your comments about threads targeting AA people that too is a lil bit stretchrd out of the reality here. It is obvious you are new here on NL from the way you understant comment trends here. Anyway, generally, the mods here for financial benefits are little laxed with their jobs when it comes to certain kind of controversial comments, posts or threads, it is not perculiar to any group of people, race, tribe or country. If you hang around the site long enough you will realize that and take things here a little less serious. Nigerians bash Nigerians, even little ghanaians get their own pound of the Nigerian flesh here too. It is all done for the fun of it, very little here is reflective of real life situation in Nigeria. For example, if one observes the vicious way the Yoruba and Igbo tribes attack eachother on this forum, one will think that is the case in reality. But in fact, that is so not the case here. So relax and stop being unneccessarily agitated, many AA kids come here on NL to insult Nigerians as well, you can ask Mr Royal, BBk king, shymex and co, it is nothing personal.

Like a Nigerian women doesn't just act Nigerian, she acts like a Nigerian woman, the intersection of culture and femininity if that makes sense.

You want to hear something ironic? Before the 1970s AA women would take a diplomatic approach to gain support for their causes. So instead of using oppression to establish a common bond, they used...........femininity. Check this out, page 45:

You are very correct, everyone has the right to define their racial identity as they deem fit, that way it is easier to talk about people on individual basis and not use blancket statement to label an entire group or race of people. Come to think of it, white people get away with a lot of things that black people do and get labelled for, nobody generalizes when it comes to them, it is usually on individual basis.

I don't hate AA male, that's an absurd assumption, that will be like Me hating myself. What I do not like is the way they use blancket statements to label their limited experience and make it seem like that is the case regardless of cultural differences, social make-up and other social idiosyncrasies. We are all black people no doubt but with striking differences, we have very different sets of values, moral code, social make-up, culture and so on. That is why I find it a little offensive when AA people do something and it is seen in the context of what every black person does, America is known for such a dumb generalizations they do it even in sports and so on. Hahahah. . . I have come to notice a trend, some AA people, men in particular like to play the victim's/racial card when it comes to owning up to the truth.
There is a big difference between a black male/female raised outside America and the AA, this is a fact. Most time when AA people use the phrase "black people" they seem to ignore the fact that even amongst black people, there are differences in culture, social make-up, idiosyncrasies. Different black people react differently to discrimination, racial profiling, lack of opportunities, racially and sexism induced mode of payments and so on. Making blanket statement like the one Hughely did only shows how ignorant many people fom the AA communities are outside of their confines. This is not a matter of what AA people go through, am sure every other black people go through it without fan fare and insecurities.

Matter of fact, Christianity is a just copy cat of different pre-existing pagan religions that they christian crusader later destroyed, persecuted their followers and destroyed every material about their liturgy and litany only to incoorperate them into christian worship.
The concept of death and ressurection of a deity as a means of atonement existed way before Jesus and christians were born. The concept of itenerant Godmen with disciples did not start with the Jesus story. People dying on the cross did not start with jesus either. Most of the miracles attributed to jesus and life situation are similar myth that are already known with other pre-existed godmen. Religion itself is a creation of man, including the fictional and mythical characters they talk about.

the kid likes to rant unneccessarily all the time. I don't know which Nigerian laws treat Nigerian women like subhumans, perhaps the ones that exists in the figment of his imagination. It is obvious that many AA males do not like to own up when their shortcomings are pointed out. Whatever reactions one gets from AA women is caused by the irresponsible behaviour and decisions by many of their males.
What do you expect from a woman who has got to play both her roles and those of the male counter-parts in the family. Black people constitute about 13% of American population yet they have a huge presence in the prison complexes, many black women get angry not because they choose to but because many niggas make them angry.
Nigerian males are far from perfect, in fact, I have seen my own parents quarrel several times and get angry at eachother but my Dad will be the last person to just leave us and our mum. You think you guys have it bad, come to Nigeria and see what what they face, yet very few take to drugs, bail out on their families, or give lame excuses for castigating their owb women. Everyone is limited in knowledge by their experiences and exposure not whether you are American or not. Flaunting America's equality laws does not make the realities go away, cussing does not make one smarter either.

Btw, just because DL Hughely is black doesnt mean he speaks for the same, or has our best interests in mind.
I understand your point but don't you think people will naturally make movies and talk about things that do exist and are prevalent in their society. Why will black Americans do movies that show youths doing drugs, violence and police brutality if these things don't exists in their societies. There was time when most movies from south Africa for instance were predominantly about apartheid and freedom, today the story is different. These things are a reflection of society. Denise216: African American women didn't get the "angry" tag until they started identifying with being "Black" only. Around the late 60s or so Black men started becoming abrasive and hostile, basically equating Blackness with a permanent temper tantrum. Black women wanting to prove their solidarity took on that persona and its been downhill since. AA men are still angry but can be easily placated with money or sex, even under obvious racial conditions (selling drugs, making ridiculous music, etc.) Prior to the late 60's AA women maintained a separate identity and platform that allowed them to be seen as virtuous women even in the face of savage behavior from white and AA men. So the skin and feature thing was never an issue, being closely identitifed as "Black" according to black men is what set their femininity back.
you know there is something so masculine and macho about it that one gets the impression that the root of their anger and attitude atimes stems from the attitude of many AA MALES. Infact, this assertion has been made popular by our hiphop stars some black movie producers like Tyler Perry. Every time you watch a black American movie, there is always a female character portrayed in that way, you get this no-nonsense, gun-wielding, tough black female characters that takes everything serious while the males are busy gangbanging eachother on the streets. I think it is high time black people in America change that visual imagery of themselves.

All women can be angry. But, why do we as a racealways have to put our people down? When we are confident we are angry. And then sometimes we have things to be angry about. Like bringing home the bacon, raising the kids, absent fathers, and angry men that think they know it all.

I do not recall ever exchanging any text with you besides the legendary immortal quote of sublime intellugence stating....

"Homosexxualls need to be fixed and cured"....

Besidez that little nugget of moronic font behaviour I can not recall us exchanging anything......

Based on that quote and the original op of this thread

I would say its Royal 2-0 as far "debates" are concerned with you....

Sir would you like to submit this ficticious proof that I have ever even acknowledged your existence besides the homosexxual thread and this one? Lml....

Ill wait ..
lol. . Come to think of it, on the contrary, my experience here on NL with many African-American kids can lead one to conclude that they are the angry ones not realy their females folks. Always cussing and using gutter language to make their point. It is sad sha. .lol.
Trust me boy, you don't want us to descend to destructive condemnation of the kind of things many AA males do that can make a perfectly sane black woman go crazy and just lose it. I am sure that even you, did not grow up with a father figure in your life, from the way you react like a lil kitten. At least, Nigerians both male and female don't lie to themselves about their shortcomings or blame the white man for his miserable life as is evidence on NL here. Nigerians are blunt to a fault even when it hurts them. I don't see such honesty with many AA males yet they are so quick to call all black women angry, most of these guys have never even left the American region before yet they are so quick to mouth off about every black woman being angry even when in fact, they AA males cause their women to be like that. Nigga pack wan corner jare!
What a way to describe what you posted up there undecided
thank God I have lived well enough with Yoruba ppl to know that when it comes to food or soups, they are no competition to the Igbos. Point to me any Yoruba soup that taste or look any better than the Ofe Owerri posted above. Ewedu or Gbegiri look more like a kid's stool than any igbo soup you can pretend about. Amala even looks worse when considered, the colour and looks are enough to turn any potential eater off. . Though it is not as bad as it looks . . Lol

Mr Royal
trust Me dude, your pool of sh!t talk is child's play if I decide to go down your route but I am more interested in substance and not that AA male attiitude you are known for.
And trust me, you are not anywhere close to being called intelligent or smart, I have engaged you several times on many issues here on NL, your responses are always typical of those ghetto kids in the slums of America. Hurling American gangstar slangs and cuss words does not make you smart or intimidating, that you grew up in America does not confer you with any special intelligence of I.Q, so stop trying to intimidate anyone with contrary opinion with that overbearing "cos I am American, I am prolly more smooth and nice bullcrap" you always resort to when intellect fail you. Nuff said. I have nothing else to say to you if all you want to do is whine and get unneccessarily combative, trait so typical with an average AA male from the ghetto.

At moderators, please I want this topic to be in the front page for the fact that it is a very touchy racial issue that can help us all to both tell ourselves the blunt truth and do some soul-searching. Also, I have found out that the mostly the black women that have been largely offended by this kind of generalization have been the AA women, it would be interesting and educative to see the views of other black women in America who are not neccessarily from the African-American communities and those outside America, especially black women living in the African continent.
I do not agree that our women are angry, control freaks, that is so not true: I am speaking for my sisters in Africa now. They definitely are not angry or bitter-for what na?
Brothers let's also comment on this, do you think it is true?
Mods abeg, this is front page material. Thanks in anticipation. .lol
