Reports have it that they are trying to stop resettlement efforts in the town. Government officials are already in the town preparing for the resettlement. Too many sensationalists are not smelling the coffee. The sun has begun setting on the insurgency in the North East. New weapon platforms, age of fighters and just plain fatigue has set in. Boko Haram / ISWAP reluctant sympathisers who wish them victory to get back at Nigeria should look for something else to engage their morbid fantasies. Things come to an end. |

iblawi: Single engine F16 or single engine gripen E/F or the single engine J10 will fit am sure.
JF-17 has it role to play and that role can only be fill best by a single engine multirole fighter jet. It's very normal for NAF to go for the latest block available.
Advance trainer aircraft can't fill the role of a multirole fighter jet even if it has 4 engines. There is a place for JF17 Block 3. For the Block 2, it is always going to be a transitory role. The only threat area that the JF17 Block 2 is closing is naval threats from the gulf of Guinea area. The capability that closes that gap is JF17 Block 2 launching C802 missiles to take out enemy ships There is not much threat northwards that 3 to 6 units of JF17 Block 2 and upgraded F7s cannot handle In 2025, theNAF can stock up 2 squadrons of JF17 Block 3. AESA radar is everything now. |

iblawi: I still don't see how the procurement of m346 means JF17 is not giving satisfactory performance.
They are not meant for the same role. We all knew the procurement for both aircraft were in the pipeline already.
M346FA is needed just as the JF-17 is also needed. It's left for air force to determine which is more urgent due to lack of funds. Single engined JF17 is a misfit for the role you are ascribing to it. Nigeria may only by JF17 Block 3 in appreciable nos. I don't see much of a future Block 2. |

chloride6: No need to be condescending, if I has known that you were going to be condescending I wouldn't have bothered.
All I see in your rebuttal is an argument based on oil, oil and oil as if Buhari is President of Oil.
Not only have you mischievously chosen the data points to make your arguments you have also twisted the narrative to suit your agenda. A classic double tragedy.
There are 8 Heads of States counting from Shagari down to Jonathan inclusive.
Yet you cheery picked the ones that suit your narrative.
Nigeria's finances were also in an absolute mess in 1999 when Obasanjo took over. The nation was reeling from years of plundering by the Nigerian Military and the situation was bleak.
Yet Obasanjo courageously set himself on an agenda to privatise several sectors of the economy and turn around the economy. He armed himself with experts (not withstanding their ethnicity) and set to work. Some of which include, NOI
Those efforts have today yielded the Telco and private education sector, as well as various manufacturing concerns such as Dangote.
Unlike Buhari he understood that opening up sectors of the economy where only government had patronage was essential.
Buhari on the other had has been busy restricting entrepreneurial activity and chasing investors away with his parochial sentiment.
Buhari lacks the capacity to lead a multi-ethnic country such as ours. We remember how Obasanjo death with OPC, can Buhari do the same to kinsmen? Buhari is not restricting entrepreneurial activity. He has made the environment tough for economic saboteurs and importers of ühat üe can produce. Nigeria is outgrowing trading and commission agent business. If this is the vision you have, move to Malabo and be importing liquor. |

We need to learn to think in terms of institutional core competences, capabilities, processes, standards and their maturity instead of personalities. I find that we 3rd World countries are reluctant to grow out öf this mindset that glorifies persons instead of teams and institutions. The result is stagnation especially for a technical arm of our security architecture ühere systems and processes are everything Whyem15: Ordinarily, I wouldn't have replied you because your motive was to insult but there are things to learn from the post.
The post was totally about personalities as it is very apparent, I made no mention of strategy and plans so I do not know why you are attacking me. If you are not comfortable with some post, try to ignore once in a while, especially mine.
Meanwhile, personalities of leaders and officers also has a lot of effect on the outcome of battles and wars. Especially in relations to boosting the morale of troops which increases the effectiveness of any fighting force. The high morale of troops was very palpable during the time of late Attahiru as COAS with many soldiers hailing him as a warrior and one who empathize with Frontline troops and who is willing to end the war unlike many of his predecessors who soldiers thought were profiting from the insurgency. This resulted into victories such as recapturing marte and environs within 48hrs.
Not too long ago, we saw videos of troops abandoning their positions and fleeing with civilians because they weren't ready to die for what they feel is as a result of some people's selfish interests. Some even went as far as attacking their officers.
Charisma is when you do almost the same thing as your predecessors yet the troops are willing to take your excuses and endure your failures while they took it against your predecessors. Optics play an important role in winning battles when the troops feel you are also willing to lay down your own life for the same purpose as them and you understand what they are going through and willing to improve things. More importantly, personality play an important role when the troops believe you are one of theirs and you are trying all your best in pursuit of their interests.
The president not attending the burial of his chief of army staff has also made many soldiers believe he doesn't care whether they live or die, that is also optics.
In summary, there is what is called Psychological warfare that deals with the mental emotional and behavioral characteristics of troops, enemies and people at large and it is aimed at manipulating the behaviors and attitudes of those targeted in a way that will be favorable to the originators objectives. Personality and optics play very important roles in this. |

Whyem15: I just miss S.B Abubakar anyhow these days. These new CAS isn't awe inspiring at all. In fact none of the new service chiefs are. Ibrahim Attahiru of blessed memory was also awesome, especially with that order to recapture Marte and clear the general area within 48hrs. L.E.O Irabor is definitely the right man for his job, far better than Abayomi Olonisakin but still not as charismatic as S.B Abubakar. I really miss that man This is a clueless post. What's charisma?. How old are you posting this nonsense, dwelling on personalities and personal styles instead of looking at the strategy and plans which as not changed. Optics is everything to the amateur. |
