I remember vividly some 2 years back; I got along well with this lady, we got so close that she was expecting me to take our "friendship" status to a "relationship" status ...... So it got to a point she smartly asked me and I was so plain with the truth ; I told her straight to her face that I wasn't interested in being in a relationship .......
The next question that popped out from her mouth was are u sure u aren't gay ?
That is the Q most of them throw @ u when u let them no about ur relationship status.
Well for me I just feel so FREE being single.

I have been single for more than 5 years and have not regretted it in any way.
My greatest problem now is that I've gotten to that age where people expect u to have one serious lady around , but deep down I feel just ok the way I am.... @ least this way I know I'm free from any emotional troubles.

Pressure from ur employers and no job security.
What's the essence ? Its better one takes a lesser paying job with more ample time for oneself. This way u could even start up ur own business with enough TIME @ ur disposal. |
Career › Re: Blue-collar Job In The UK Or White-collar Job In Nigeria? by Rooneyboy(m): 12:11pm On Oct 11, 2012 |
"Just passing": Naija Vs UK......it's really a tough one.
Based on personal experience ( I relocated from the UK about 2yrs ago )
Living in the UK : Monetary Aspect: Started off as a Graduate Engineer earning 28000/Annum ( This was relatively high as it was a multinational. Regular Engineering Grad Jobs/Coys would pay between 20 - 25K/Annum back then. After tax/month , take home = 1900 Monthly Expenses ( Accomodation/Feeding/Transport/Mobile/Land Line + Internet/TV License/Clothes/Light entertainment) = 1300 Unforseen Expenses ( Parents, siblings, etc in Naija..... This might not be applicable based on parent/family financial status = 300 Total Monthly Expense = 1600 => Savings was 300pounds ( In actual fact I dont think i ever had up to that to save per month )
General Life ( +ves and -ves ) : Same bus at same time every morning and evening containing same set of people with earphones staring at you. You start feeling like a robot after some time. Light / Internet / Phone => Constant 24/7 That 1900 monthly income stated above is CONSTANT , no additional 1Pound will never come into your account from any other source in any month. Time is money i.e You dont get to socialise a lot...many of your naija friends are on the hustle 24/7 - forget facebook pictures , na lie. After a while , if you are single you get very lonely unless you dey find oyinbo companionship. I personally did not like thier company. You are not respected in the society - I got an education to be a respectable person. You can move around at any time of the day and feel safe. You and your next door neighbour might never talk to each other. ( A woman living in a flat next to mine died and I never knew till after 6months when my Landlady told me ) Thump your feet too hard while walking around your flat / play small loud music / TV => Neighbour complains or calls Police. You eat well , smell and look fresh. You can shop for virtually everything online and have same delivered to your doorstep + ATM Never "Swallows" your card. Easy access to other European countries for holiday visits. You will never build a house , you go pay mortgage for 2bedroom flat for the rest of your life. Miracles dont happen ! Everything you earn is worked for except you wan turn criminal. PEACE OF MIND
Living in Naija Monetary Aspect : If I compare my present salary to what I would have been earning in the UK now ; I would say I save reasonably but not as much as I thought I would when I made up my mind to come back home. Having lived in the UK , one ends up spending more to maintain same living standards which one has been used to back there.
General Life ( +ves & -ves ): Social life is great => Friends/family close by....weddings and things on saturdays , boys get your time on Fridays , etc You need to have a generator + pay someone to switch on and off You need security dogs => dem barking no dey gree person sleep for night...dem food na die Folk wanna tax you at every instance.... u end up not picking calls from some numbers Everyday is different => u fit see okada man dey fight bus driver on your way to work today , another scenario tomorrow Some change dey enter pocket apart from salary Spacious house + compound Anything can happen ! ( deal dey show from nowhere ) You are respected in the society Food is great You can acquire land and build a house to your taste. Your must buy and maintain a solid car because of road conditions and zero transport system. NO PEACE OF MIND - BH/ALUU/POLICE/THIEF/VILLAGE PEOPLE etc
Personally for me , I think of running back sometimes. Nothing beats PEACE OF MIND. I'm really inlove with this write up. |

maj007: It's quite unfortunate how m0r0ns like u come on nairaland and spit thrash all over on matters of which u know very little or nothing at all. Let me ask u these questions:
1. Is the present sponsor of Newcstle Utd (Virgin Money) not a lending institution?
2. Are the mentioned players not putting on the shirts bearing Virgin Money?
3. Is there anythin/proof in the post to show that the muslim players in newcasle are reluctant to put on the shirt bearing the name of new sponsor.
When u answer those questions, u and ur likes on this forum wld perhaps realise ur stupidity and stop ur nasty comments abt a religion u know nothin abt (other than media attempts at rubbishing the religiong by linking it with everything negative in politics, sports, etc.).
I AM SURE IF ALUU KILLING HAD HAPPENED IN THE NORTH OR MIDDLE EAST, UR LIKES WLD HV LINKED IT WITH ISLAM. Now that the community is a xtian dominated one; is it right to say xtianity is a cruel religion? I'll say no.

Kobojunkie: ^^ The above is reason why so many women come here complaining of heartache after hooking their man in marriage. @Poster, it is better for you to get out NOW that you are not married than to seek ways of getting out after marriage. If the man insists that mother or father has to be involved in it and you do not want it, better you decide now if you can handle such a life than marry him and live the whole of your marriage complaining an whining of how they seem to be in everything. Absolute crap u have just written. Unless ur not a Nigerian, mother-in-laws will always want to have their say in their son's affairs. So how many about--to--be marriages would u advice the bride to walk out off |

@ chikadile ! I doff my hat for u, really u did the best thing any lady in her right senses would have done.
I personally can't stand a stingy(male) friend----talk more of a spouse. Like someone rightly said u just dodged a bullet that was heading for ur BRAIN, honestly don't know if u would have survived it. lol Pls as u rightly said, folks from both families would put a whole lot of pressure on u,---- don't listen to their pleas .let ur decision be final.
I remember vividly when my younger sister was interested in one guy a few years back and decided to bring the guy over to our family house to see our parents(not engagement ) ; I recollect that guy came empty handed , (even ordinary bread) the guy no carry come......... He was entertained very well by my mum and sis, even popsy opened a wine that he and the guy drank...when the guy left that day I called my sis and talked some sense into her, pointing to her what I observed in the guy , @ that point was when she opened up that it was his nature and that she hoped it was going to change after marriage. She even narrated one experience she had with the guy; that they were both going to see d guy's mum , after encountering a heavy traffic they both decided to go to an eatery to eat , when they got there all the guy bought was two bottled water and two meat pies for the both of them........... In d end she poked her self in the brain over and over again to come to terms with reality. Now I thank God for her that she's married to someone else and enjoying every minute of her marriage. Chika just relax and take things easy, don't regret any action you've taken"for even God himself knows that marriage is meant to be enjoyed to the fullest and not it being a burden".
Be ur natural self and remain positive about life , SURELY , SOMEDAY U'LL SEE THAT SPECIAL PERSON THAT DESERVES U AND WOULD TREAT U IN THAT TENDER AND LOVING MANNER A LADY DESERVES . |

WAM?: I sincerely do not know. It's been one story or the other - and what makes it worse is that his attitude towards me has changed 360 . I miss him so much because he is my best friend and now he wouldn't even see me and limits talking to me. It's been 2 months and I still feel like I'm in a nightmare that I need to wake up from. I also had to write 2 board exams feeling this way- thank God I made it!
He wasn't perfect but I loved him and accepted his flaws . I was also at peace that I was in God's will. I have pleaded with him against the wish of my family and friends but at this point I would do anything to get my peace back. Things have not been the same for 2 months now- even though I have numerous things to be thankful for this year- I have not had the opportunity to enjoy them. I don't know how long this would last but one thing I know is I am exhausted. It's easy for you to say move on; its not the end of the world. I would say the same- that's the logical thing to do but the reality is different.
I am the girl who is always smiling, playful and happy but I find myself now in deep thoughts and tears rolling down my cheeks .My life seems like its slipping away- and It does not help that I just moved to a new place and started a new job. The worst of all the emotions I feel right now is that of betrayal- he sees the effect this is having on me and does nothing about it. Let me add that its hard but I still trust God . ( Theme song I trust you lord Donnie Mcclurkin)
Okay enough of my story- I smile because I can imagine the "smart comments" that would follow this post :-) gotta to love nairaland !!! Frankly was really touched when reading this; not to worry dear some one special "who knows ur value is going to meet u in no time" and u both will be the envy of others ,including ur ex. Just be strong and move on , it could be very difficult but not impossible. |
