Government Agric Efforts Crash Prices of Food Items in Lagos

ON DECEMBER 17, 20185

Various government efforts at revamping agriculture may have started yielding results as prices of tomatoes and pepper have reduced in major markets in Lagos. God’s market… A survey by NAN on Monday at Mile 12, Oyingbo and Iddo markets showed that a 40kg basket of tomatoes goes for N5,000, from its previous price of N10, 000 in November and N29, 000 in July.

A 50 kg basket of ‘tatashe’ (pepper) decreased from N14, 000 to N8, 000, while a basket of chilli pepper (rodo) also dropped from N13, 000 to N8, 000.

Mr Femi Odusanya, spokesperson of Mile 12 Market Perishable Foods Traders Association, said that government’s efforts in agriculture might have started yielding positive results on the prices of food.

“About two to three years ago, fertilizer, a major farming input, was sold at about N10,000 to N12, 000, but now fertilizer goes for about N6500 in the market.

“Some state governments in the North are giving tractors to farmers free of charge to plough their land and also access to improved seedlings. “Definitely, all these have impacted, one way or the other, in reducing cost of production for most farmers and the result is now evident for all to benefit from,” he said. Odusanya said that prices of the commodities might even reduce further before Christmas, due to the increasing supply from about 80 trucks to 120 trucks daily to the market. Our cost of transaction, fees, attractive — SEC boss He urged government to sustain efforts and also invest more in mechanized farming to boost food production and sufficiency in the country.

However, price of a jute bag of onions increased from N28,000 to N35,000 while one kilogramme of frozen chicken and turkey goes for N1,000 and N1,100, respectively. Live chicken is sold for between N3,500 and N6, 000, depending on their sizes. Also, a 50kg bag of rice ranges between N16, 500 and N22, 000, depending on the brand, a 25 litres of palm oil goes for N11, 500, while a measurement of “garri’’ cost N380. Some of the traders also attributed the drop in the prices of food to the massive supply of food items occasioned by harvest season. (NAN)

OUR PROBLEM IS THAT WE ARE COLONISED, CONFUSED PEOPLE.

We have completely abandoned our own indigenous religious, philosophical, and cosmological systems, which, if well researched, hold keys to these important questions.

But our colonial brainwashing has made us reject even the mere idea of considering OUR indigenous cosmological systems as a way of explaining existence.

For instance, the ancient Benin people believed the earth was flat, and was covered by a metal dome or firmament, outside of which was a vast expanse of water.

We hear that today and laugh at their ''ignorance and stupidity''.

But do you realise that their description of the earth almost directly corresponds to Old Testament Creation accounts?

It corresponds to ancient creation accounts from China, India, and the rest of the 'Old World'.

Do you realise that there is a substantial movement in the western world known today as the Flat Earth Society, which holds that the earth IS flat? AND is covered by a metal dome or firmament, outside of which is Water?

Bear in mind that for all the images you have seen of a spherical earth hanging in 'space', NOT ONE is an authentic camera image. ALL are what are called 'composites', essentially 'photoshop' images.

There is no real incontrovertible proof that the earth is a sphere. Or that 'outer space' actually exists.

WE NEED TO EXPLORE OUR ANCIENT BELIEF SYSTEMS. They are the most ancient on earth, filled with amazing information which we simply need to DECODE and re-examine.

The white man is a newcomer to the earth compared to the blacks. There is no reason why we should assume that THEY hold the answers to who we are or why we are here.

From an aesthetic point of view, the older design model is much more pleasing. The concentric circles and wider spaces is more in line with modern design plus its Brazilian architecture-esque. Also, spaces like these should disallow car movement so people can enjoy the space. Similar to times square in NYC or piazzas in Italy which bans cars movement in the area. just my 2 cents.
WRONG. I knew there would be someone that would come along and claim the ''white man's design from nineteenth century'' was better than what what we have today..

Nigeria ‘lost billions’ on oil deal with Shell and Eni

Analysis raises questions of structure of a deal at the centre of a bribery trial

Financial Times, UK

A Nigerian oil deal at the centre of a landmark bribery trial involving Royal Dutch Shell and Italy’s Eni cut the African nation out of billions of dollars in potential revenues, according to a new analysis.

Resources for Development Consulting found that Nigeria stood to lose out on nearly $6bn in projected revenues because of the unusual structure of the 2011 deal for one of Africa’s most lucrative remaining oil concessions.

Campaign group Global Witness commissioned the consultants, who specialise in natural resource contracts, to scrutinise the impact on the Nigerian government’s finances.

The undeveloped deepwater plot, named OPL 245, is already at the heart of a corruption trial in Milan where prosecutors have alleged bribes of $1.1bn out of a $1.3bn deal were paid to public officials for the licence.

The report raises questions about why Nigeria would have agreed to such a deal and will be seized on by anti-corruption campaigners, who allege officials for years conspired with multinational companies to plunder the country’s oil riches.

Using publicly available contracts and industry methodology for assessing the value of the block, the authors found the 2011 terms for OPL 245 were hugely favourable to Shell and Eni.

“The fiscal terms that current govern Block 245 are not, in our view, consistent with the essence of a normal production sharing system,” said RDC in its assessment.

The new report found the companies would pay taxes to the government but the [government] would not receive royalty payments or an allocation of the oil produced after costs are taken into account, as is typical.

Assuming a $70 a barrel oil price, prior fiscal terms governing the plot from 2003 and 2005 would generate potential revenues of more than $14.3bn and $15.6bn respectively for the state. In the 2011 deal, this falls to $9.8bn.

The fallout of the 2011 deal has reached the top ranks of Shell, whose head has been subject to wiretaps, and Eni, whose chief executive is standing trial in Milan on charges of corruption.

Managers and middlemen from both companies are also standing trial. In September, a judge found two defendants — Nigerian Emeka Obi and Italian Gianluca Di Nardo — guilty of international corruption.

The Nigerian federal government has joined this case as the victim and is pushing for damages as part of the criminal trial. Prosecution evidence began in October 2018 and all the defendants have pleaded not guilty.

Global Witness, whose director was a witness in the Milan trial, has argued that the Nigerian government should revoke the OPL 245 licence as the country’s citizens are being “starved of funds”.

Shell said it could not comment in detail about the report given the Milan trial but said the deal was a “fully legal transaction”, adding there was “no case against Shell or its former employees”.

Eni said the analysis contained “incorrect technical and contractual assumptions” adding Nigeria has an option to take a share in the plot after costs have been recovered. It rejected any allegation of “impropriety or irregularity” in the deal.

The report comes as Nigeria has sought for decades to install a new framework to govern the petroleum sector, motivated in part by a sense that the state was not generating a fair revenue from deepwater oil blocks.

Shell’s chief executive this month maintained the deal’s legality but said the perception it was “unethical” had hit the company. “It is not [a position] that we would want to find ourselves in again,” said Ben van Beurden in a speech.

I would like to see this evidence during "the periods" aforementioned and not anytime before or after. In other words what "ancient" period are you referring to?
Can't you read? You saw the date I gave there, being 3200 BC approximately. A quick search of Pharaoh Narmer will tell you what year he lived. Have you even heard of him? You seem to be more into DNA and genetics than actual African history.

I would also like to see any archaelogical evidence for the "time period" you are discussing. The natufians would be the earliest groups of people Prior to the Kemetians to have formed any measurable history in and around the levant and north east Africa but they most likely emanate from East Africa and would not cluster with West African types both pheno or geno-typically.

DNA evidence would support this as well seeing that older Y chromosomal DNA resides within groups in the Sudanic, Nilo- Saharan, Chadic and East African areas outside of the Khoisan and are almost at a zero level within West African-Bantu types. There is a correlation with phenotype and geno-type although this does not imply causation.

West and Central African-Bantu types, though the most successful to spread across Africa would not have been prominent in and around these areas during "the period" in discussion, therefore the picture I questioned is misleading.

Your reference to the pharoah's pics is implicit interpretation and subjective. That stone sculpture looks Chinese to me. It is neither here nor there. Egyptian paintings do not depict anyone who lived around them with a West Africa/bantu phenotype. The closest depictions resemble the Sudanic types.
The highlighted shows you are an unserious person, as I've no clue what a 'Chinese' person would be doing ruling in Egypt five thousand years ago. The fact that it looks 'Chinese' to you actually buttresses the point that it is West African, as West Africans, apart from maybe the Khoisans of SA, are closest to the Chinese phenotype in Africa. In other words if you painted a Chinese man black he would look like a West African before anyone else.
CultureRe: Kerma - The Great Black City That Defeated Rome by Rossikki(op):
morpheus24:
Those pics are misleading, the phenotypes and body structure of those Africans look closer to West-African/Bantu types than anything that would have existed that long ago in what is now known as Sudan.

The features of Nile valley people would fall in line with most Dinka, Nuer, Kikuyu, Masai and Nubian peoples of the Nile Valley region who have some of the oldest genetic makeup in Africa.

Pictographically misleading
There is widespread oral, linguistic, cultural and archaeological evidence that the 'West African/Bantu types' occupied northern Africa and the levant in ancient times, in addition to the 'Sudanic' Africans, and that the ancestors of many or most occupants of the present-day West African forest region, migrated from the north and the east in antiquity.

Here is a sculpture of Pharaoh Narmer, also known as Menes 1, the first king to unify Upper and Lower Egypt into a single country, dated to 3200 BC.

The Deffufa Temples in Kerma, Nubia, Sudan at least 9,500 years old.
Kerma (now known as Dukki Gel), a Nubian term which can be roughly translated as “red mound”wink was the capital city of the Kingdom of Kerma, which was located in present day Sudan. The Kerma site has been confirmed by archaeology to be at least 9,500 years old. Around 3000 BC, a cultural tradition began around Kerma. Kerma was a large urban center that was built around a large mud brick temple, known as the Western Deffufa.

The Eastern Deffufa lies 2 km east of the Western Deffufa. The Eastern Deffufa is shorter than the Western Deffufa, just two stories high.
It is considered a funerary chapel, being surrounded by 30,000 tumuli or graves. It has two columned halls. The walls are decorated with portraiture of animal in color schemes of red, blue, yellow, and black and stone laid floors. Exterior walls were layered with stone.
The third deffufa is of similar structure as the Eastern Deffufa.
Wow...9,500 years old...Thanks for that, Horus. I wonder what will be found if they keep digging in that place.

nice one.

I imagine the way the the world would have been shaped if Kerma actually wiped out Egyptian civilization
I believe our ancestors were always guided by a sort of altruistic principle or moral code that prevented them from finishing off their enemies completely even when they had the ability to. Remember the Greeks referred to them as ''the blameless Ethiopians'', on account of their moral rectitude. Even in the pre-colonial era in West Africa, when two sides fought, the winning side never pursued the enemy to massacre them, but often left a path of escape for them, to avoid mass casualties. Egypt could have easily wiped out Greece, and prevented western civilization from rising. But they chose to live and let live. Look where it got them. Before you knew it, Greeks were ruling Egypt.

Doctrines of demons. You know they are demonic if they avoid morality, truth, kindness, self-control, respect for humans/animals and the law.
You believe the nonsense but don't believe God exists?
Well prove we are living in a stimulated universe. Prove that touch, sound and taste are unreal.
The proof is very simple. All physical matter, including 'humans' are composed of atoms. In fact atoms are called the ''building blocks of the universe''.

But if you look at an atom under a microscope, there's nothing inside it but a tiny dot in the middle that's been compared to a grain of sand on an island. So an atom is basically empty space. How then can a 'physical, solid world' exist? It only exists because you THINK it exists. Thought creates reality. Some people who understand these things are able to circumvent or override physical 'reality' by altering their thoughts. This is why, for instance, there are people who can walk barefoot on a bed of glass shards and not get a single injury. In fact all supernatural feats are merely exhibitions of the performer overriding the illusion of a physical world, with his or her thoughts.

At the very highest levels of realisation, you can walk through a wall and not feel anything. In fact all appearance of form is illusion. The only thing that is real is Thought, and it is formless.
