Foreign AffairsSo You See: It Pays To Be A Zimbabwean! by RSA(op): 2:03pm On Oct 17, 2008
A man dies and goes to hell. There he finds that there is a different hell
for each country.

He decides he'll pick the least painful to spend his eternity. He goes to
Germany Hell and asks, "What do they do here?" He is told "first they put
you in an electric chair for an hour. Then they lay you on a bed of nails
for another hour. Then the German devil comes in and whips you for
the rest of the day".

The man does not like the sound of that at all so he moves on. He checks out
the USA Hell as well as the Russia Hell and many more. He discovers that
they are all similar to the German hell Then he comes to the Zimbabwean Hell
and finds that there is a long line of people waiting to get in.

Amazed, he asks, "What do they do here?" He is told "first they put you in
an electric chair for an hour. Then they lay you on a bed of nails for
another hour. The Zimbabwean devil comes in and whips you for the rest of
the day.
"But that is exactly the same as all the other hells why are there so many
people waiting to get in?" asks the man.

"Because there is never any electricity, so the electric chair does not
work. The nails were paid for but never supplied, so the bed is comfortable
to sleep on. And, on top of it, the Zimbabwean devil used to be a civil
servant, so he comes in, signs his time sheet and goes back home for private
business."

SABC cry foul over blackout

13 October 2008
Linda Moreotsene

The SABC has abdicated responsibility for their failure to broadcast Bafana Bafana’s final group qualifying match against Equatorial Guinea in Malabo on Saturday.

Kaizer Kganyago, the public broadcaster’s spokesman has laid the blame at the doorstep of the Central African country’s authorities for the debacle, saying they had declined 34 SABC technical employees’ visas to travel to Malabo.

“Initially we had applied for visas for 39 people, but were only given five. We then made arrangements with the Equatorial Guinea broadcaster to get the match from them.

“On the day they informed us that they were having technical problems which they would work on. But it never happened,” Kganyago said.

The SABC had announced that they would televise the match – which Bafana Bafana won 1-0 – delayed live on Saturday but that did not happen, disappointing viewers.

“We are obviously sorry, but we had intended and planned to broadcast the match. Their embassy did not give us the visas the same way they had denied the Safa media officer a visa ,” he said.

Bafana Bafana team manager Sipho Nkumane – who had been in charge of the Safa delegation’s applications – said all their applications were done on time.

“They told us that there was no need for our media officer, Sifiso Cele, to go. A Sunday Times reporter, Kgomotso Mokoena’s application was also declined,” said Nkumane.

“They also wanted to cause a scene about our two assistant coaches, asking what we were doing with two assistant coaches. We have asked the match commissioner to include all this in his report.”

Also declined were applications by Banyana Banyana’s August Makalakalane and Fran Hilton-Smith, who had planned to use the trip as a scouting mission for next month’s African Women’s Championships tournament in that country.

The Equatorial Guinea embassy could not be reached for comment yesterday .
Foreign Affairs"south Africa Is The World 15th Safest Banks"says World Economic Forum by RSA(op): 8:18am On Oct 13, 2008
Canada has the world's soundest banking system, closely followed by Sweden, Luxembourg and Australia, a survey by the World Economic Forum has found as financial crisis and bank failures shake world markets.

But Britain, which once ranked in the top five, has slipped to 44th place behind El Salvador and Peru, after a £50 billion pledge this week by the government to bolster bank balance sheets.

The United States, where some of Wall Street's biggest financial names have collapsed in recent weeks, rated only 40, just behind Germany at 39, and smaller states such as Barbados, Estonia and even Namibia, in southern Africa.

The United States was today considering buying a slice of debt-laden banks to inject trust back into lending between financial institutions now too wary of one another to lend.

The World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Report based its findings on opinions of executives, and handed banks a score between 1.0 (insolvent and possibly requiring a government bailout) and 7.0 (healthy, with sound balance sheets).

Canadian banks received 6.8, just ahead of Sweden (6.7), Luxembourg (6.7), Australia (6.7) and Denmark (6.7).

UK banks collectively scored 6.0, narrowly behind the United States, Germany and Botswana, all with 6.1. France, in 19th place, scored 6.5 for soundness, while Switzerland's banking system scored the same in 16th place, as did Singapore (13th).

The ranking index was released as central banks in Europe, the United States, China, Canada, Sweden and Switzerland slashed interest rates in a bid to end to panic selling on markets and restore trust in the shaken banking system.

The Netherlands (6.7), Belgium (6.6), New Zealand (6.6), Malta (6.6) rounded out the WEF's banking top 10 with Ireland, whose government unilaterally pledged last week to guarantee personal and corporate deposits at its six major banks.

Also scoring well were Chile (6.5, 18th) and Spain, South Africa, Norway, Hong Kong and Finland all ending up in the top 20.

At the bottom of the list was Algeria in 134th place, with its banks scoring 3.9 to be just below Libya (4.0), Lesotho (4.1), the Kyrgyz Republic (4.1) and both Argentina and East Timor (4.2).

Obada joins Parker on plane to Sweden
Submitted: 3 days ago

Soccer-Laduma has established that Bernard Parker is not the only Thanda Royal Zulu player going to trials at Swedish side, Malmö FF.

Nigerian youngster Felix Obada will accompany Parker sometime next week according to Thanda head coach, Roger Palmgren. “I can confirm that Obada is also going to trials at Malmö and will leave with Parker. I’m not sure when they will be leaving because we are waiting for their visas. I think they will leave on a Friday (next week) and we wish them the best of luck.”

Obada, who turns 19 early next month, has yet to establish himself in the PSL, but Palmgren is confident he can make it in Sweden if his trial is successful.

Is this the end of the ANC

I say welcome to African politics my bros

Ya'll colores and whites better start advocation for your own country.

All hell is about to break loose.
And let me correct the statement that say ANC is spliting,ANC is not spliting, people who are formming this new party are people who where defeated during the ANC leadership election in Polokwane now that they lost on voteS feel that the new leadership is not the real ANC,they are sore loosers who want to govern forever. We gave them their chance and they did their best and failed where they failed,Now we have elected a new leadership which I belief will do much more and take South Africa to the next level, attracting new investors, creating jobs, offering a world class healthcare in public hospitals, improve our educational system, training our police force and providing them with best equipment and knowledge to fight crime. In short creating healthier, safer and happier South Africa.
South Africa will never be a ground where dictators and corrupt leaders are breeded,We have fought aaparheid for years without giving up,lots of people lost their lifes fighting, family where broken, souls where totured and we wont let anyone, even Mandela to mess our beautiful country. We owe this to ourself.

Yes xenophobia wont stop,as long as people with no other skills exept their hand flock to South Africa, they will compete with the country's poor, unskilled, uneducated locals and they will start fighting for resources, services, jobs and to some extend woman.
By uplifting Africa I was refering to African pride,South Africa will do it by becoming a first fully developed nation(and we are not far) in Africa. And this will encourage others to follow in her footstep.

Yes this will happen because of whites, and we love it.If you remember ANC never fought to take over whites and ship them to Europe,we fought for equal rights,we wanted whites to remain in the country, and play a meaningfull role to better the life of our people.Thank God we have visionary leaders, who thinks in 100 years.
Currently there is nothing good comming out of Africa, except South Africa. We dont need you to be in our country to be inspired.Africans must stop treating their leaders like kings, gone are the days of kings and queens,if you think Yrdua is not delivering?tell him to resign.Until your people possess those powers then your country and the rest of the continent will remain a dark continent and SA the only light and might even ask for special EU membership.

SA man to meet Toons’ boss
Posted: 2008-10-03 09:19

The man heading a South African consortium is in Tyneside in a bid to push through their takeover of Newcastle United.

Jonathan Cleland arrived in Newcastle from his Scottish base on Tuesday night and is set to meet Mike Ashley’s representatives and visit the club’s facilities.

They have now officially lodged their bid, thought to be around £300m, with Seymour Pierce, the company Ashley has brought in to handle the sale.

And if successful, the five-strong consortium plans to bring Kevin Keegan back as manager, as well as offering him a five percent stake in the club, worth more than £10m.

They also want to install Brazilian soccer expert Simon Clifford as technical director and he could also be given a share of the Magpies.

Eight different groups have each been issued with a prospectus outlining the club’s financial position and have signed non-disclosure agreements preventing them from releasing details.

But, according to a report in Newcastle’s Evening Chronicle the newspaper understands it values the club’s playing squad at £100m and shows Ashley paid an initial £134m to buy United from the Shepherd and Hall families, before investing £110m in wiping out debt.

It also reveals the Toon earns annual revenue of £90m, making a profit of £3.5m. There is currently a £50m overdraft facility and apart from that, the club is essentially debt-free.

More cash is owed to the Magpies for transfer deals than is still to be paid out and the extent to which the overdraft facility is used depends on weekly gate receipts.

Out of the seven potential buyers, the South Africans are viewed as the front-runners after Cleland’s arrival on Tyneside.

The South African-raised Scot has built a career around developing major brands and fronts the consortium that is also understood to include Brian Gilbertson, Brian Joffe, Johan Rupert and Vivian Imerman, despite the latter two previously denying any involvement.

Rupert, 58, fronts Swiss luxury goods firm Richemont, which owns brands such as Cartier and Dunhill. He has previously invested in Saracens rugby club, was linked with a buy-out of Blackburn Rovers and is said to be worth £3.8bn.

Imerman (53), was an owner of Del Monte before buying into Scottish whisky firm Whyte and Mackay, which he sold for £595m last year. He runs investment firm Vasari Global Ltd in London with fellow South African Gerald Katzeff.

Brian Joffe (61), founded investment holding firm Bidvest and is chief executive of South African football team Bidvest Wit. The father-of-two has a reputation for buying failing companies and turning their fortunes around, which tallies with the way the consortium interested in United are said to have amassed their wealth.

Clifford, who runs the International Confederation of Futebol de Salao and is manager of Garforth Town, is understood to be central to the South African’s plans and has played a key role in developing the bid over the last seven days.

The Middlesbrough-born former teacher brought Brazilian methods of coaching to the UK and stars such as Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards have gone through his Brazilian Soccer Schools, which have more than two million members.

Keegan was approached by the consortium as early as last Friday and the businessmen are also keen to find a role for Alan Shearer.

Some of my favourite moments from the past week:

The week began with nominations…, hooooooooooray! That meant that 1 more lamb was going to the slaughter! And on the chopping block were Uti, Ricco and TK (with Hazel hot on their heels!). But with the tapestry clad dude being HOH he was obviously safe. He then did what left most hot blooded male viewers cringing……, He switched himself for Lucille. (Enter Paris Hilton horror movie scream here)

Then there was the “Battle of Kitchen-Gate” which saw Mimi and Uti go head to head about food rationings. I have to say that this has to be one of my favourite moments from this season. Insults were flying left and right…and of course Uti threw his trademark “GO DIE” over and over again, leaving me in stitches.

The moment I saw Lu being wooed by Ricco who used uber cheesy movie analogies to win her over and it actually working I knew that she had reached the end of the road. Only someone with a slight neurological issue would have fallen for that! Hai Sham, poor girl…lol!

Did TK cheat during the HOH task on Friday? Mmmmmm, I must say his success is somewhat questionable! He was on some Al-Qaeda, hide and go seek sh*t with his answers because he is the only housemate who’s answers I did not see…mmmmmm…,

Fast forward to weekend eviction show

As the credits for the show opening sequence began to roll I felt a cold chill creep down my spine. Was I gonna be subjected to more bad performances, poor quality audio and (God forbid) another twist! I quickly downed my Cosmopolitan hoping it’ll numb the pain that was sure to come! And the show did not disappoint.

It started with the Ghanaian ballerina’s clad in black and pink tutus. Initially I as expecting them to start pirouetting but instead they burst into song, and boy did they sing (I’m gonna leave it at that!)

Fast forward some more – PAUSE!

Uti’s sisters are so damn pretty! Uti better keep them far away from Sheila! Lol!

Super speed fast forward

As the housemates are summoned to the lounge for the names of the nominees, as well as the person who TK had switched, to be announced I quickly took another shot of Vodka, hoping it would further numb the uncontrollable boredom that was about to continue. And for the first time in almost 5 weeks I was thoroughly entertained!

The moment her name was mentioned Lucille pulled the “ugly cry” face (as Oprah loves to call it) I couldn’t help but laugh (I think the slight state of intoxication made it that much more hilarious). What I did observe though is that this girl has an unlimited amount of tears on standby that could easily go toe to toe with the Vic Falls. I wonder where she hides the on/off button. Mmmmmmmmmm……… I guess we’ll never really know! Uti however was laughing his ass off (enter Doctor Evil laugh here) which is why what transpired later was an utter shock to even me.

The near ousted are then led to the DJ/commentator booth aka glass house to await their fate. What went down next made Quentin Tarantino movies seem like a big Yawn-fest!.

Lucille’s name is called as the second evictee of this season, but she wasn’t even that fazed by it. UTI however was going berserk, like a fiend who needed a real fix…then he started going all Kung Fu Panda in the glass house kicking and pulling everything which left Miss Sensitive looking as scared as a deer in the headlights! I don’t blame her, hurricane Uti was in full effect! Lu quickly hijacked their flags and was off into the sunset….lol….leaving the 2 fairies in tears! Lol…. One of the dimmest light bulbs had left the building, for good, i hope,

And there I was thinking it was over, that the entertainment was at an end…WRONGE!

As Hurricane Uti swept through the house he once again showed that he grew up watching Bruce Lee movies by kicking the first thing in sight. WTF (Thank God Mimi was no where near him….lol…, would have made for killer TV though – sigh!)

Then the drama started all over again which is why today is the first ever BBA awards.

Drum roll

And the winners are –

• Villain of the week: TK (for his staring role in “Switch”!)
• Best stunts: Uti (as the lead in “Kung Fu King”)
• Most dramatic moment: Munya (in “Home Alone – Pt 5, Lucille is gone)
• Best make up special effects: Mimi (for her part in “The Mask”)….lol
• And the honorary Shabba Ranks “Mr Lover man” Award goes to…… Ricco (as the lead in the 2nd installment of “Another 1 Bites The Dust”)

I have not seen this many tears since a cinema full of women watching Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in Titanic.

Fast forward a hang over to Monday evening

Another Monday! 1 must go!

The housemates have been moved to the “house of mirrors”…. Yawn! Is that another twist?

Once again it’s Uti and TK….and for the first time Munya! TK had the HOH umbrella as the sh*t hit the fan, swapping himself for drag loving Casanova Ricco. In all fairness Munya must be evicted, after all he did say that he was ready to exit. I am somewhat disappointed at his actions – giving up the game over a woman who told him numerous times that they were just friends. WTF! He has to snap out of it damn quick, it Big Brother, not The Bachelor!

Lets see how this week goes, hopefully there’ll be no paramedics called to the house…I think Biggie should hide all the sharp objects, especially form certain Housemates…lol!

Later ya’ll!

Hallelujah Holla back.

Newcastle spotlight turns to Joffe
Posted: 2008-10-02 11:40

Despite the wraps still firmly around the identity of the South African consortium involved in bidding for Newcastle United, British media speculation is increasing turning towards Brian Joffe, CEO of the BidVest Group.

Seven groups are reported to be involving in negotiations with the Magpies’ current owner Mike Ashley. All have been tied from speaking to the Press due to a secrecy clause in the bidding process.

With Newcastle sources continuing to put the SA consortium at the forefront of the planned takeover, the city’s Evening Chronicle has made a concerted effort to establish the identity of the South African group, which calls themselves New Newcastle United.

The Chronicle yesterday contacted three likely South African prospects and two of them denied outright that they were involved.

The Chronicle contacted billionaire Johann Rupert, the man behind Swiss-based luxury goods firm Richemont, which owns brands including Cartier and Dunhill.

The 58-year-old is said to be worth £3.8 billion and has already ploughed around £8m into English rugby team Saracens.

Rupert was linked with a takeover of Blackburn Rovers last year, but moved quickly to deny the rumours.

When contacted by the Chronicle yesterday, a spokesman said neither Richemont nor Rupert were interested in buying Newcastle United.

Similar enquiries were put to multi-millionaire Vivian Imerman, a fellow South African.

Imerman (53), was an owner of Del Monte before buying into Scottish whisky firm Whyte and Mackay, which he sold for £595m last year.

He runs investment firm Vasari Global Ltd in London with fellow South African Gerald Katzeff.

Imerman also denied being involved in a takeover of Newcastle United when contacted by the Chronicle.

Then the newspaper turned their attention to 61-year-old Joffe who founded the investment holding firm BidVest.

The BidVest Wits CEO has the reputation for buying failing companies and turning their fortunes around, which tallies with the way the consortium interested in United are said to have amassed their wealth.

The father-of-two, who was born in Johannesburg, was not in his office when the Chronicle tried to contact him.

Bidvest’s financial controller David Cleasby said: “I can’t talk for Mr Joffe and that is all I can say.”

Some sources in Newcastle claim the South African have tabled a £280m bid. Ashley’s asking price is £280-300m

Yes Nigeria played impotant role to most of the exiled people and we appreciate that.I think Thabo Mbeki who spend some of his time in Nigeria thanked people of Nigeria in parliamnet and on his visit to Nigeria on number of occassions.Mbeki worked very closely with Obasanjo and they created lot of positive things for Africa as a whole.
We are currently donating clothe, food, medical to people of Sudan, does that mean one day my grandson should mention that his grandfather was clothing and feeding Sudaness?

Aids, crime, xenophobiic attacks are happening in very poor places, people there dont care about relationships or who did what all they want is to survive and becuase of that you cant brush all of us with one brush.

As South African we love ourself and igbogolo I hope that one day you'll start loving your countrymen then maybe just maybe you will be happy for us for our succeses.Black man you're on your own

The group is headed by John Cleland, a Scotsman raised in South Africa, who has made his name developing major brand names around the globe. The financial backing for the bid comes from billionaires Johan Rupert, Brian Gilbertson, Vivian Imerman and Brain Joffe.

Cleland recently issued a statement on behalf of the group regarding the bid for Newcastle which read, "Now is the time to reveal who we are out of respect for the supporters.
