Let me paint a typical scenario. If you are a 400-level undergraduate and maybe just before you signed out from school in November, the annual 6-month ASUU strike hits you, does anything change about you still being a 400 Level student? The answer is a capital NO! Even though calendar dates changed your status as a 400 Level student didn’t. The same thing applies to life, the ripple effects of the changes in calendar dates would only be substantially felt if there are corresponding changes in your habits, character, and choices, just like the famous X and Y function in #algebra. Whilst you make those lofty resolutions and wishes, have a proper introspection of the previous year, then effect changes in the grey areas. Only then can the year be truly NEW to you. |

FROM AN ACCOUTANT TO A MEDICAL DOCTOR - a true life story � My little cousin suddenly switched from aspiring to be an accountant to a medical doctor. When I asked why, she refused, but I insisted she tell me. Her answer was the height of "yootery" in Nigeria that I have ever heard of. So apparently my cousin’s shorthand teacher in Js3 had told them that accounting in the university is taught in shorthand, and it’s a must to know it if you must excel in your courses. And because she was finding it hard to understand, she had to opt out of it. I guess this was one of the reasons your president said we had lazy "yoot" in the country. Please parents, engage your children to know what they are learning in school or anywhere else. Maybe if she was staying with me, I’d have educated her properly before she made the switch. After hearing her unbelievably funny story, I held my peace and wished her well in her new pursuit. I don’t want someone to come here in 10 years time and write a long prose about how her wicked uncle discouraged her from becoming a medical doctor ![]() P.s: Not to blow my trumpet, I offered Shorthand while in senior secondary and I aced it well( that’s how stars do ).
