Dear Professional Colleagues, I need a young ACA interested in treasury analyst role for a 250k monthly job. #office at V.I, Lagos, I need about three CVs. Send CV as wattsapp chap to: 08136113757 |
My first salary was 50k as a customer service rep. I took the job hoping that I could save some money for my masters or wait till I get a job with my dream company. Three months into starting work, Someone from head office mentioned a coperative program where you could save money. So I decided to remove 20k from my salary for saving every month and signed a direct debit and no access to the account in the first three months. Every other month I worked to get additional bonuses to urgumemt my new lifestyle. As a squatter in my parents house, i still had to pay bills like DStv & Nepa bills which was about 7k. (5k Nepa and 2k Dstv). And then when salary increased to 70k, i started doing Ajo of 20k again. Some of the things that helped me was the staff bus and free airtime. This meant I spent close to nothing on transport while my office was only #200 to and fro work for days were bus was not availabe. At the end of two years, I had accumulated about 450k plus interest in dividend which amounted to about 50k. I took that 50k and bought a masters form in Unilag and got an admission. I had planned to use the remaining money to fund my school fees but my shift job wouldn't allow me attend school full time, so I deffered. At the end of my first four years I had bought two brand new laptops twice, two televisions, a land in Sango Ota and one naija used car that I used to learn how to drive. All these on a salary of 50k - 70k, all things been equal. So it baffles me, when you say that you don't have money to save because you are only lying to your self and not me. To build a culture of saving, You have to be 👉 Intentional: This is identifying you have to take steps to making yourself disciplined. That is why you have apps like Microvestng available on your play store and iOS store to help you when you sign up to get started just like i did with the cooperative. 👉 Take advantage of direct debit or automated savings. Our automated savings feature allows you to directly debit my account just like I did with the cooperative. 👉 Take advantage of returns; After my cooperative in the cooperative, I was paid returns in December and felt like a king 👑 and with apps like Microvest you earn on your money while saving. Yes, you can get up to 20% P.A. This is why I love what we do with Microvest. P.S Do you have your hustle story, let me here in the comment section 👇 |

Just like me, so many mums believe the grass is greener on the other side. It is the challenge of the working mum vs the stay at home mum. I wish I were that mum driving to work vs I wish I could jog in the morning like that mum. I wish I had more time vs I can do more with my life. This money is not worth it vs this stress is not worth it. I wish I spent more time with my kids vs I need some time off from this kids. Staying at home will help me focus on my purpose vs maybe working will clarify my purpose. From a very young age, I had always wanted to be a career woman. I wanted to have my own money, have kids, have a loving husband and we will live happily ever after. I have everything I wanted with the exception of the ‘happily ever after.’ My reality was either nanny drama, work pressure, not been able to show up for school events. I felt guilty about not spending enough time with my family... the list was endless. I was overwhelmed by all my responsibilities and decided to take a break. It was a new life of sleeping and waking up when I like. I could dress the boys for school, I ate breakfast with them, dropped them at school, went jogging on week days, and did homework with the boys. I also didn’t have to bother about the nanny’s attitude. Life was beautiful! I had embraced the change of working mum to a stay at home mum but not for long… Waking up to prepare the kids for school wasn’t so much fun anymore. I wanted more sleep. I had to feed my youngest, run errands, prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, clean up, laundry, homework, bed time drama. At a point, I told myself that I couldn't keep up with the daily demands. Why do both at home and working mums struggle to find happiness? I realized that no matter what our employment status is, we have one thing in common - we are all Mums. Our jobs are similar with different experiences. I had to drop all my misconceptions: Working moms care about their career more than their children Being a stay at home mom is a roller coaster_ enjoyment life Working Moms make all the money and wear expensive clothings Stay at home moms have all the time in the world, they live a balanced life This is my truth: Most moms want to spend enough time to pray Most of us have issues we are dealing with Most of us think we can do better Most of us cry at least once a month. Some mums must work, we cannot afford not to Most mums want to exercise and stay fit We all love our children We all need our me time We all have our hobbies and dreams We all need a hug, kiss and time from another mum We all need a helpful and supportive village. As you start à new year, I’d like to share some "MUMMY" tips that have helped me so far: M_Make every day count U_Utilize the family and friends in your life M_Make Peace with your Purpose _ It’s in the journey of mummy hood M_Making a decision about working or not comes from the needs and values of your family. Y_You are a great Mum, so am I. |

Avoid office politics at all costs." I DISAGREE - that advice will kill your career. You need to play office politics to succeed ❗❗ In 2015, a senior leader taught me how to 'play' the game when I was transferred to a leadership job in a new country. - He told me who to befriend in the corporate hierarchy. - He took me through their individual agendas. - He gave me the best approach for each person. When I played the game, my career skyrocketed When I didn’t play it, it cost me my career ❌ Here are 4 ways to ‘play the game’. 1️⃣ Understand the culture and hierarchy. Ignorance is NOT bliss. If you want to be recognised or need support for your projects, you need to know who the decision-makers are and get clear on their agenda. 2️⃣ Demonstrate your value. By working hard and helping others, you’ll earn respect. Speak up in meetings, share ideas and make everyone feel included - the corporate game can be cutthroat - don't be seen as docile. 3️⃣ Learn soft skills. Hard skills are trained and measurable. Soft skills are intangible but will help you understand, empathise and connect with people on deeper levels. If you need coaching on this, invest in it! 4️⃣ Spread positive energy. If you make people feel good and ooze positivity, people will want you on their team and you'll win more opportunities. Avoid being the pessimist. Offer solutions, don't just highlight problems. Office politics is like a game of chess ♟️ Play it well and you win. Ignore it and you lose. |
