After Rejecting House Of Reps Certificate Of Return, Gbajabiamila Get New Appointment

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila is a leading candidate for the post of chief of staff to president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the next administration.
Gbajabiamila was conspicuously missing at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja, on Wednesday when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented certificates of return to elected members of the 10th House of Representatives.

Gbajabiamila was re-elected to represent Surulere 1 federal constituency, Lagos, for the 6th Consecutive tenure during the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections. He polled 19,717 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Bosun Jeje, of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 5,121 votes.

However, gathered that the speaker may eventually not represent his constituency in the 10th Assembly as he is likely to be considered for the position of chief of staff to the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the new government.

A source familiar with Gbajabiamila confirmed that the speaker, being one of Tinubu’s core loyalists and having worked with politicians from every federal constituency in Nigeria in the last 20 years, is more likely to be considered for the plum job.

When asked if Gbajabiamila will abandon his fresh mandate to pursue the chief-of-staff job in Tinubu’s government, the source said, “That is what we are hearing. If you notice, he didn’t come for his certificate of return on Wednesday. The truth is he doesn’t need that certificate; he has everything to function optimally as chief-of-staff to the president in the new government. He has worked with politicians in every federal constituency and across political divides in the last 20 years.”

When contacted, the special adviser to the speaker on media and publicity, Mr Lanre Lasisi, said his principal was not able to attend the presentation of the certificate ceremony. He, however, declined further comments on the matter.

“He was just not able to be in Abuja for the ceremony,” Lasisi said.

Gbajabiamila was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2003. Since then, he has won elections in the subsequent five election cycles. During his 20-year journey in the House of Representatives so far, Gbajabiamila served as minority whip, minority leader, and majority leader before he was elected as Speaker in 2019.

Fear Grips Nigerian Governor, Approves Mass Promotion For Civil Servants Few Days To Guber Poll

Some days to the governorship and state house of assemly elections, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has approved one Grade Level Command Promotion for all workers in Abia State Local Government System with effect from April 2023.

Ikpeazu broke the news on Wednesday while meeting with the workers in Local Government Service at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.
He said his relationship with the workers in the state has remained cordial, adding that he had gone through several challenges in the state, including Operation Pyton Dance, COVID-19 pandemic together with the workers.
The governor appealed to the workers to vote massively for the PDP Governorship Candidate, Chief Okey Ahiwe and promised that, if voted in, Ahiwe would do better than him.

He thanked the National Union of Local Government Employees for the national award given to him recently, afding that Abia was one of the states that supported full local government autonomy.

In his remarks, Ahiwe promised to implement the new Command Promotion pronounced by the Governor as well as sustain the cordial relationship existing between government and workers if elected. He also promised to ensure prompt payment of salaries and other emoluments.

Responding, the Chairman, Local Government Service Commision, Chief Victor Azumara and the NULGE State President, Comrade Ikechi Nwaigwe Ikechi Kennedy thanked the governor for approving the prmotion.

He said workers would vote overwhelmingly for Ahiwe.


The meeting was attended by diginitaries, including the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem, the Head of Service, Sir Onyii Wamah, Commisioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt. Hon. Christopher Enweremadu, among others.

Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial district, Ibrahim Shekarau has insisted that he will not accept the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Senatorial seat.

The former governor was reacting to his declaration as winner of Kano Central Senatorial district on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party by the Independent National Electoral Commission after the February 25 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The former governor of Kano State who didn’t show up to receive the Certificate of Return issued to Senators-elect at the International Conference Centre, Abuja on Tuesday further clarifies that he has since left the NNPP.
His Media aide, Sule Y. Sule made the clarification to journalists on Wednesday that his principal wouldn’t collect the Certificate of Return.

“We have already made our position clear on the issue. Senator Shekarau is not interested and will not collect the certificate of return. As a matter of principles and personal conviction”, Sule said.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC declared the former governor winner of the Senatorial election under the NNPP, following the February 25 by the Returning Officer in Kano.

So INEC believed the allegations leveled against Doguwa, but chose to ignore those raised against Wike and APC Lagos. No, this isn't about the election. This is a witch-hunt.

The worst thing about this, is that the man he fought blood and sweat for: Tinubu, is yet to say anything about this. He is instead, going around brandishing his certificate for all to see, and calling it his world cup trophy. He hasn't made any moves whatsoever to broker peace between Doguwa and those forces moving against him. What a selfish old man.
