SailorXY: Martinez is indirectly taking a swipe @ Moyes, he insinuates that Everton was brainwashed to believe 8th place is good enough & they will finish in top 4...
I say he's counting chicks before they are hatched
Well, who can blame him... he has never, ever felt the pressure borne from a hefty weight of expectation on his shoulders. At least Moyes is/was brave enough to leave the relative security of his "comfort zone" and take on bigger challenges!
This shouldn't be a problem, majority tends to think players follow manager or champions league football but money is the major factor and utd has money to burn now.
With the Glazers at the helm... I don't see this happening. Why do you think off all the managers we could have got, we went and settled for Moyes!?

Shoe-string budget...!
I struggle to think of any high profile manager that would come in and not want to spend 70-100 mill... money the owners may just be reluctant to part with!

SAF win the ligue with this same side...!? Ok.

I guess this means Chelsea will the UCL or Europa Ligue since RDM and Rafa did it with pretty much the same teams or even less!?
CelebritiesRe: Basketmouth Under Fire For Molest Joke On Twitter by RuuDie(m): 11:36am On Jan 06, 2014
MsSantaClaus: That part of the joke is even ridiculous, can a woman extort money or anything from a man he is not willing to give? What was his intention in giving in the first place? Did he make it known to her that the giving was in return for intimacy at some future date? Dating does not necessarily have to lead to intimacy, or even a relationship for that matter. That is just what the warped mind of Nigerian men tell them, that because they have spent money on a lady, they are entitled to intimacy and if she does not give in, then it's their privilege to take it by force! What arant nonsense!
Women , teach your sons to respect the right of a woman to say NO! If you want to pay for intimacy please visit a commercial intimacy worker ( even they have rules )! Anything apart from that would be considered a violation of a woman's rights, the body does NOT belong to you, because you spent some money!
Brilliant. Now are you're really beginning to put things into perspective properly... those questions you raise sum it up nicely.

A full grown, sexually active guy spends money, time, attention on full grown, sexually active lady; does things for her that even her father cannot or won't do and you think he doesn't or wouldn't want or expect something in return at some point or another!? Even Jesus Christ gave and asked something in return!!

If you didn't know this before, know now... when a guy starts giving you little favors, perks and gifts - unsolicited or otherwise - he has "intentions". The instant she accepts, she places herself in a potentially untenable position - agreed, it doesn't ultimately translate to the guy having a right to her body or anything else that she owns for that matter - but, in a sense, she is obligated! It is not mere warped "Nigerian men mentality" - it is unspoken, unwritten law - anywhere in the world!

You would also do well to echo that your advice to women and their daughters... acceptance of some kain gifts eh, may be translated as tacit acceptance of whatever proposal follows.

While I am not endorsing or justifying ra.pe... I think that joke has been totally taken out of context - like someone pointed out, a million different people can understand one thing in two million different ways!
CelebritiesRe: Basketmouth Under Fire For Molest Joke On Twitter by RuuDie(m): 9:01am On Jan 06, 2014
MsSantaClaus: Does one have to be a victim of rape to empathize with rape victims? every single woman , from the time she understands what it means to be a woman is in constant mortal fear of being Raped! It is the one thing women fear above all else, many would rather die than be raped! Have that discussion with any female in your vicinity ! Armed robbers, strangers , husbands boyfriends , male siblings , cousins, drivers , cooks , gate men , soldiers during war, etc the list is endless! Every single woman is a Target and has in one way or another been molested by a male, sadly to say even female children as young as 6 months have been sexually molested by men. If u think my statistics are wrong, visit a police station one day and ask, ask google if u can't be bothered to do that, and furthermore , have a candid conversation with any woman folk near you! As I type this a woman somewhere is being raped! It is that bad!
Make your comments within the context of the joke, tweet or comment made by basketmouth... what do you understand from what he wrote!?

I am also very gutted but there's absolutely no use dwelling on this too much, there is another game tomorrow... ultimately, the manager gets the stick - but if we are to be honest with ourselves, we all know we started to lose that once game when we got the red card - and we cannot blame the manager for that!

So, its the Ligue Cup next... and I am still optimistic. At some point, fortunes will change... it always does, eventually!

montelik: All of our players are crap. Just 7-8 months removed of winning the title at a canter and harshly losing out to Madrid in the UCL, our squad is crap, all our players average or poor. Now people are talking about how we need to rebuild the squad.
Question, was there a single united fan on this forum or others, who felt that the new managerial appointment had a rebuilding project facing him when he took charge? Almost all of us, even the most pessimistic, felt that the new manager simply needed to continue SAF's work and make a few tweeks here and there, while building and molding the club to his own suiting over a longer period.
Wasn't the justification for handing Moyes the job fairly easily, that it was continuity and he would be comfortable keeping the ship on a steady course and working within SAF's legacy and United's recent traditions.
Gary Neville often talks about how Moyes is adjusting to United and eventually United will change him. But it now seems that Moyes isn't comfortable changing to match United, but instead wants to change United to match him. That is his right and it is understandable, but if we were looking for a manager to engage in a rebuild or change the ethos of United, Moyes would likely have had a sterner road to the job, if he would have even made the shortlist.
I am not in favor of giving Moyes license to make big change.
Firstly, his appointment was almost solely based on the desire to avoid unnecessary changes. Secondly, what pedigree does Moyes have to say that he is going to rebuild United's squad just a year removed from being champions? This isn't Capello, Wenger, Lippi e.t.c we are talking about. Moyes has approached this job like when he went from Preston to Everton, but the situations are wildly different. United aren't looking for a manager to remake the side, they aren't looking to go in a new direction. But Moyes has only been able to approach this like any other sack and hire arrangement and now he wants to be given license to make massive changes when that was not the initial mandate given to him.
Before I will feel comfortable giving him license to do and undo, I want to see what he does with what he has (which is much better than some believe). So far he has done nothing to reassure me.
I am not making a case for Moyes, he has not covered himself in glory so far, but I do not agree wholly with you...

Name one manager that will go to a new team and not want to make "considerable" changes, ala "make the team his own" over time. If the board/mgmt wanted to keep "the UTD SAF tradition or way", then they would have let Fergie carry on like an African dictator... Just because SAF was successful with this same set of players doesn't mean every other manager that comes after him, will too! We should desist from drawing correllations like this!

If changing UTD to match Moyes is the way forward, so be it - it doesn't matter if he goes and acquires the whole everton or preston setup; all that matters is what works for him and brings success to the club.
Before we can set the jury out on Moyes, we need to ascertain that he has been given all the benefit of doubt and he has been adequately equipped for the job. Meet his demands, provide for him what can be "realistically" catered for... if he fails, no excuses!

coogar: i should borrow your faith then.
it seems you dunno how poor we have been this season but i am very sure you understand numbers. united have now lost more points this season than they did in the whole of last season.

we lost only 25 points the whole of last season despite throwing many points away after the league was won. we have lost 26 points already this season by new year's day. how can anyone see any positive in this campaign? it's been absolutely fückery.
Lets face it, the way things are going, this may be the season where the EPL is won with the lowest number points compared to other season winners - everybody is dropping points - that is why there isn't any break-away leader just yet. A bit of my optimism stems from the fixtures - I foresee it being "kinder" to UTD in the long run.

Valencia's crossing was bad - but also, too many times there just wasn't enough bodies in the box - and the movement/anticipation of Welbeck in the box only made some of those crosses "poorer" than they may have been.
Tom Cleverly... I just simply cannot fathom! I think Carrick+Fletcher combo should be it for now...

On a more positive note, they tried to show some spirit and fight-back after going 2-down... that is encouraging. Certainly not how I wanted the new year to start... but on to the next one. 3 points lost - take it on the chin and look ahead; there's still enough time to make up ground.
You are the one that is being brainwashed by Rooney. And i can see that you want to infect some people with that. You are the one creating hatred/dislike of Rooney to some forum members with all these you overrating.

Yes he may have outlived every other strikers because he is British. Other than that, he would have been sold long before now. He has spent over 10 yrs at united right now. In 2012, the Premier League celebrated its second decade by holding the 20 Seasons Awards, why wasn't he nominated into the Fantasy Team of the 20 Seasons by the public and panel if he was so good as you have alluded to? Ronaldo who spent only six seasons was nominated. It is not how far but how well.
Classic K.O. punch!

Do you still believ Rooney was played in front of Welbeck?

Watch matches and analyse them well.
Dude. All that is HOGWASH!

UTD, like many other teams play 2-strikers... and it is only normal that one of 'em drops deeper than the other. Doesn't make him any less a striker... and that article categorically states "DEEP-LYING FORWARD", MIDFIELDER nor DEFENDER. So pack your face!
Also, there are many games (and I mean, many) in the last 3 seasons where Rooney has been played as the lone striker - why do you think his (Rooney) game/minutes double/triple that of other strikers.

9 and the half my grandmother's a$$!

I'd love a midfield duo of Carrick and Fletcher if possible. For me, that's the best combo we have now - bags of experience and composure!
I don't foresee a whole lot of changes; its definitely going to be Young and Valencia down the wings.

No Wazza and RvP!? Stick Danny and Chicha in there - this is MANCHESTER UNITED gaaddammit! Anybody that is considered good enough to wear that shirt, should be good enough to get the business done!!

elampiro: More info about Berbatov

2010/2011 season
Berbatov started 6 UCL matches, sub 1.
7 matches in all.

Berbatov scored 0 goal in 7 UCL matches of that season 2010/2r011

Yet Coogar will make us believe he would have scored against top teams of EPL had been played 500 minutes. The minutes he played what did he do? How many minutes does Chicha get to fire in?
Is that the basis for determing if a striker will score against top teams!? You choose to assume he wouldn't score if fielded, we choose to assume he would score if fielded - 50/50, goalless draw. Now contrast that to a certain Luis Suarez who gets fielded all the time, whether against top or small team, but only chooses to come to the party when a Rudy, Hennessey or Hilario is in the opposition goal!
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by RuuDie(m): 9:15am On Dec 31, 2013
I don't care about stats... but from what we have gathered here, an FTB is a player that scores most or all his goals against "weaker" opposition and (or) when it usually doesn't matter!
Going by this NL definition, it doesn't matter what Suarez did 1, 2, 3 or 10 seasons ago... as at today; NOW, NOW, NOW as we speak, as per this season is concerned, he is a certified FTB!
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by RuuDie(m): 7:07pm On Dec 30, 2013
If Berba was a FTB... so also is Suarez for now. Simple!
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by RuuDie(m): 8:55am On Dec 29, 2013
SailorXY: What Elampiro is trying to say is that Jones in midfield has reduced the way teams roll over us & gain easy access to our defence. Aside pre-sabbatical Fletcher among the midfielders we have now, he is the only guy that gets in the faces of opponents, puts his foot on the line in a 50-50 tackle, come out with the ball & even drive it forward with boldness or release the ball to a skillful teammate & dash into the box with an eye for goal. The other guys are Anderson (who is perpetually benched for whatever reason) & Fellaini (who needs time to fully settle).
The statement doesn't mean Moyes should not strengthen the midfield, it simply means Jones is among the better players we can deploy in the middle of the pitch as far as now now now is concerned tongue
This is the simple truth, I don't even know why it calls for argument
You sum it up quite succintly!

Elampiro has a very good point but he is not just presenting well... With Jones in the side, there's always a "body", a bit of presence, some form of cover in front of the defence. Granted he is not the best passer of the ball, not overly energetic for box-to-box play - but from a defensive standpoint, there's relative solidity when he is in the CM position.

Carrick and Fletcher are better ball-passers/retainers... but I think Jones, with his defensive foundation is a better "henchman" - and has done a decent job so far.

To set the records straight however, for that position, it is Carrick > Fletcher > Jones - Jones being "emergency" or last resort as someone here pointed out!

I'm mostly glad with the comeback... perhaps this will instill much needed confidence in the guys and put a bit fear in other teams.

The return of Fletcher is a big, big blessing... its like he never left; the calmness, composure and experience he adds to a relatively "lean" midfield helps a lot.

On to the next one.
