Let me help the Ghanian and Nigeria slum dwellers understand luxury. Luxury and class is subtle. It doesn't scream like you have low self esteem and trying to overcompensate like the Trump Tower ![]() The house should first be as functional as possible...like the best place to live in when all factors are considered. In Nairobi - there are two very expensive houses - very old well built houses - some rent for 7,000 dollars a month - and contemporary ones. Like this simple contemporary house...it deceptive but it has class only the discerning can notice.

Fenced mostly with white picket fence or a trimmed hedge. You guys are just used to living in squalor. Just30: |
I was just posting an example of what I and many consider luxury finishes. Hard wood finishing. Now you're giving me cheap chinese ceramic finish - that floor is cold for your feet - you must wear socks or have a carpet - and many other factors that are considered. There are many reasons why people go for certain type of finishes...and hard wood is the most expensive - and the best.Just30: |
concrete walls are only common in countries like Africa where insecurity is a problem. The rest of the world have trimmed edges. In many place in Nairobi many people try to cover the concrete fences by planting hedges around it. Just30: |
This is actually standard everywhere except in Nigeria and Ghana. You guys don't have any class or know any luxury. If you want luxury in urban areas it very expensive. In Nairobi it's start by being able to afford at least 1/2-1 acre minimum - in leafy places - and everything from there is too subtle for you. samorobo: |
The best in kenya is a little to sophisticated for you. You'll not understand. That is why you call Nairobi a forest. Referred to Kitusuru-Lower Kabete as forest. samorobo: |
Shitty house in shitty neighborhood. Luxury and class is actually easy - you're looking for a house that is livable in all the matrices. That means a lot of fresh air - that you generate by planting lots of trees, trimming grasses, lot of flowers, gardens, birds chirping, a few monkeys, a subtle drive way, swimming pool, kids play area, jacuzi, the best material for indoors - like hardwood that keep the house as natural as possible - and the same for the roof. You can put all security features but they have to be subtle...you can have stone wall but you plant hedge or ivys to cover it completely. At end of the day we are primate - ANIMALS. Our natural enviroment is not a concrete jungle. It's the real jungle. samorobo: |
I see you've given up on the exterior. Let's go to the interior. What you call luxury in Nigeria is ostentatious display of fake gold plated Chinese trinkets. In kenya - luxury - is defined by HARD WOOD finishes. The more hard wood you see the more luxurious - and the less stuff (trinkets) - you see the more luxurious. Luxury is subtle. One paint work could probably cost all the Nigerian "luxury" Chinese trinkets. One little wooden piece of furniture or a little carpet would be worthy more than your fake Chinese trinkets. High end housing look like this on the interior. On the exterior - the more trees you see the more expensive. You see life is very funny luxury is all you got right there in Nigeria - you don't have to ship truckloads of fake chinese trinkets.https://www.woodproductskenya.co.ke/images/floor/slider/Flooring_4.jpg https://www.citiscapevaluers.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Sakile-Bogani-Park09-1200x680-1200x680.png samorobo: |
I don't think you have an idea what middle class development look like. Just30: |
Urbanization without requisite development. Urban sprawl of squalor. Slumpolis. Saddamochieng00: |
You want to compare 10 units housing estate with neighborhood some sq kilometers long. Ghana - where is all that gold - gone to? Just30: |
Yes, formal retail is now at 33%.kiosks and groceries in Kenya accounted for 66.3 percent. https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/image/view/-/5208286/medRes/2403280/-/maxw/1272/-/a0npapz/-/conveniece.jpg https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/datahub/Retailers-shift-battle-for-market-share/3815418-5208258-v0sr4o/index.html |
I told them they are going down so fast. Instead they started hating on the messenger. mtisTheQubit: |

Gold coast use to claim they don't have skyscrapper but are developed But surely if they look at Nairobi low rise development - they know they will get here in 2100. Some Nigerian by name of Sammy described Kitusuru as forest or his village in Igboland. These west africans are insane. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXRvgio_X4M&t=620s Saddamochieng00: |
obaaderemi:11 stores and you talking about controlling.. grow it first..Kenya stores are approaching 500 if I am not wrong.Top 3 local stores each has 60 plus |
Desperate Nigerians, Why can't Nigeria build their own rail. Shell will be transporting fuel through the railway. It happen British PE owned small part of Vivo - Shell downstream. PE don't own money - they are just a nameplate - more like brokerage. The only Nigerian about all these is two British-Nigerian founders. But meanwhile Shell owns Nigeria. I mean the real shell. samorobo: |
Nanyuki-Nairobi rehabiliated 250km railway begin operation. Naivasha-Kisumu is also going to be rehabilitated starting this month. Nairobi commuter rail is also being rehabilitated https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7zFvH8z-N0&feature=emb_logo |
Maybe mini-markets; Nigeria formal retail is very small. chrisooblog: |
But why. Somalis and Ethiopeans are just into business - and they do well. Maybe it's contraband electronics and cheap clothing but surely that is a border control issues. They don't engage in crime or drug trafficking or Yahoo like West Africans.. They do a lot of Khat and that is pretty much it. Yes they tend to trash - and spit a lot. Austine1213: |

At least we have personal freedoms. We can express our thoughts, and share them freely. Mzal3ndo: |
You're an idiot. Tundu Lissu can plan to pump himself with 30 bullets or what was the number. Just for show. Tanzania you're cursed with stupidity. Mzal3ndo: |
Obaboon, you're a funny man. RCB - Richard C Bowen - was started by Kenyan born white kid of a missionary doctor. He was denied citizenship Initially it was a way to connect with Kenyans in diaspora - and became a full blown forum - in those days - the average person online had a msc or ma or phd. https://rcbowen.com/ "I grew up in Kenya, and started the first website, ever, about Kenya, back in 1992. It's gone, but not forgotten" This if you're tech inclined like me was pre - HTTP(S) - the protocol we are using to communicate with you. It started as gopher - more like morse-code. During my time in the ISP - many were happy with dialup modem on their landline phone. It was cheaper than what was available...damn expensive long distance calls..or letters that would arrive 3 months later. The world has changed so fast. Online forums have changed very fast - from PHD level discourse to what we are doing now - folks who are hardly literate shouting obscenities' day in day out . It's one reason RCB finally closed shop after nearly 25yrs. obaaderemi: |
Uhuru is game. Well adjusted if you ask me considering his family wealth. Someone who graduates from Amherst in Art degree is very good. I once worked with Chinese-American (adopted) Amhret graduate and I can say she was the smartest - well 2nd smartest person - well the 3rd - the 2nd has to be this little Belgium-Korean girl from Yale. The first has to be this insane American from Carlton..Bleep that..it has to be Oxford Briton I co-founded a company with early in my career. What were we talking about. yes, Uhuru is bright. 68816419: |
If you want to compare banking industry - then you go there. If you want to compare individual banks then you go to the Banker. Just be aware due to different markets - don't use it to pass judgement on a country. 68816419: |
I prefer the Freudian slip. It tells me more about yourself than this pretend machoism. Just30: |
Banking stats can be found in your Central Bank. Stop the cheap insults oga. Next time you're in Nairobi installing shitty system - I can buy you changaa. 68816419: |
You'll never be a south african even if your praise them. Chance are high they will kill you - those ungrateful kwerekwere weaklings - killing Africans instead of taking their land from the Boer. Nigerians you're a joke. The first time I was in South Africa - right at the airport- those Zulus - police officer - were telling Nigeria they are UNWELCOME - right at the Bleep,.ing OR Tambo Airport. That was 2002. These were police officers just telling random Nigerians to go back home - they are not needed or welcomed. samorobo: |
They will soon update - like they did the PPP - and you will be JustShutupAlready. Just30: |
