Why would you keep your wife in a basement? You're a sick Ashanti man. Did you buy a teen sex slave? The virgin wives of the fetish God. The God of Vodoo you were happy to pay 76B dollars. Just30: |
It says nothing about your banking sector as whole. Show me banking sector stats. Otherwise South Africa with 4-5 large banks cannot be compared with country with many banks. Last I checked despite population - kenya banking asset was roughly half Nigeria - about 40-50 to 100-110B dollars. 68816419: |
We spend 200M dollars - to count our people. Nigeria cannot afford to do that. Our family planning that started in 1970s is paying off. Everyone with something btw their ears knows Kenya has been leading Africa in contraceptive usage for many years now. Nearly 70% of our women are on contraceptive. About half of them on long term - 5yrs injection. We are NOT breeding like rats. Our women - majority in rural - are refusing to get more than 2-3 kids. Those in urban areas are doing 1-2 kids. We did national housing survey - large on in 2016 - this is BEYOND BEYOND your paygrade. And we discovered pretty interesting stuff. I will tell you one day. samorobo: |
You're slow. Last year 2019 - our gdp was 96-98B.It was also the year we did a census. our population was 47.2-5. Now do the maths. It slightly above 2000 dollars. Yes, hard to belief, considering when this thread started, we were newly mintled LMC. Now we have to just double it - and we join South Africa, Botswana and Namibia We double it in 5yrs. So 2025 - we are probably going to do it ![]() 68816419: |
Kid, don't you think, it's time for diaper change? Just30: |
Kenya banks should go there. Equity went to DRC and they made insane profit. Now imagine Nigeria. You see those mega banks were formed recently. They have nearly zero innovation or anything. The just in an environment of zero regulation, zero consumer literacy, protection and basically a zoo - you can profit. Imagine giving a state or county a loan of even 25% - and these idiots - can borrow at 35% - they are given as monthly interest - something like kenya mobile loans shylocks. gallivant: |
LOl - you edited. Actually she saved your banks by forcing them to merge. There are NO REFORMS. Your shylocks are killing Nigeria. Forex arbitrage - they use to buy from 305 from CBN and sell to Nigeria at 380 - who get that kind of spread? Now I see your CBN has seen some sense and brought the exchange rate to near uniform. Interest rate shylocks would admire - your banks charge annual interest of 30% plus. I doubt Nigeria get anything on deposit rate. In short your banks are profiting from your country stupidity and complicitity by Central Bank of Nigeria - the regulator. Kenya we are what 13-15% interest rate - deposit rate 7-8% - very little forex spread. In short you banksters are enriching themselves while poverty is increasing. 68816419: |
You use to run to PPP now I see you're sticking to projected population of 53m....when we are 48M...good luck.Just30: |
Nigeria cannot run an airline. That is just not possible. Forget it. COVID-19 is helping KQ. The main problem has been staff cost thanks to unions. Now the staff are getting fired. Next gov is injecting serious capital. We are giving them the airports like Ethiopia and those middle east. Now next time KQ will be soaring high and high. samorobo: |
We are not developed country. We are not even a middle class country. We are lower middle class country with just 2,000 per capita. Urbanization requires serious planning and investment. Otherwise you'll end up with Lagos or Kinshasasa. Ghana - where are the urba areas All we see are squalor after squalor.Let kenyans remain in rural areas until we have created urban jobs by growing the economy further. Unless we discover some serious minerals - it start from agricluture to manufacturing to high tech stuff. We are still in stage one...our economy still agricluture heavy. By 2030 when we become middle class - I expect we will be 50% urbanized. Just30: |
Not everything is a tit-for-tat. samorobo: |
The igbo lady from World Bank did a lot to save your banking sector from collapse. It's the reason she is highly regarded. the only Nigerian I respect. She made something out of a mess. Why NOT MAKE HER YOUR PRESIDENT? or Actually Dangote can be the president and then her the VP. She has a terribly hard name - Ikonjo Igweala but it's one of few Nigerians that get respected outside Nigeria.68816419: |
What competition. It just poverty. poverty. poverty. a sea of poverty. Then business environment is not for the faint hearted. Imagine a container from south africa taking 3 months - with half the goods stolen on the way. Competition is like kenya with many thriving local stores. Nigeria - the competition is informal markets. gallivant: |
Our urbanization is right where it should. At our level of our development that is exactly where it ought to be. Actually we should be about 20%. The 10% are the guys swelling our slums. Urbanization is great and something to aspire for. But not slumization like Nigeria. Just30: |
After 15yrs - they had 25 stores. They had projected about 800 stores. Nigeria is a big joke. Imagine 25 stores after 15yrs. In a country with 200m. Runda alone has 5 large malls. Karen 5. gallivant: |
KNBS has not lied about the drop in real estate and cement consumption. It started in 2016 with credit freeze due to our not well thought out interest capping. You know about this because Kenya told you. You didn't discovered it like I discovered your Kamikaze hoe-powered agricluture bigger than Brazil, Indonesia and name them. samorobo: |
KCB, Equity, Cooperative, CBA-NCIC and I think DTB now. KCB was last year highest mover in Africa. I think both KCB and Equity are approaching 10B dollars in CAP. Those are indigenous kenyan banks - kicking arse on Barclays and Stanchart who you use to dominate our banking. 68816419: |
Again, understand this very simple concept. If you have a well diversified economy like kenya, then nothing can bring you down. That is why we have grown for 15yrs at 6% plus rate. When real estate and construction suffers like now - agricluture has been kicking .ar.se - thanks to unprecedented 5yrs of rainfaill - including a record rainfall in 2019 (exceeding 1961 rainfall). The problem that you're used to in Nigeria and Ghana - cyclical economic bust and booms - we don't have in kenya - we cannot even relate. This happen if you unbalanced economy dependant one one or two or three sectors..if they get sick...the economy goes to ICU. samorobo: |
You wish. samorobo: |
They were forced to merger after they crashed - creating a few big banks. 18 from 65. Kenya had 45 banks - now about 40. And still 4-5 banks in Kenya are world top 1000 banks. I think only those 4 Nigerian banks - are bigger than KCB and Equity. Let not talk about micro-finance and sacco - because we show you dust. Let not talk about financial intermediation. 68816419: |
Show me a road condition survey when you can afford one. I can show in Kenya. Don't throw percentage. You don't have load control and you talk about roads. Those Dangote trucks are frying your bitumen and you're wasting money. samorobo: |
Obaboon, you take yourself seriously. Why would I lie to you. To gain what? Brownie points? KenyaTalk (original - otherwise named after RCBowen - Richard Bowen) - started in 1992 - and was the go to forum until I think around 2003 - when we had Mashadas and others by Kobia and others. Mashada became popular and was like the facebook of that time. After 2007 tribal clashes - many such sites were crackdown for spreading ethnic hate. Nairaland would not survive in a decent country. After many such forums were shutdown - new generation kenya went to facebook and myspace ![]() The kenyatalk - the fake one - that belong to your generation. The real kenyatalk - I only registered in 2001 - it was dominated by intellectuals -and none of you here could even manage an hour there. obaaderemi: |
Let start from Lagos port complex . Start load control before you talk about paved roads. Those trucks are frying your bitumen like butter on hot knife. Kenya you don't ever overload - the fine will kill you. The road authority are all over with weight bridges - all automated.samorobo: |
Per capita your cement consumption is 20/200=100kgs. About 4-5 times less than egypt. Now kenya is 6/48m= do the maths - we are doing better than you. When it come to roads - 80% of our roads are in fair condition. 90% of your roads including paved ones are beyond repair. You just start to talk about axle control Imagine one overloaded truck is like 70,000 cars.Kenya paved roads - are indeed paved - potholes rare - Nigeria paved road is the moon surfaces. Our gravel/murram road are well maintained. 68816419: |
Only a backwater like Nigeria allows individual to own banks. In Kenya an individual can only own max 25% shareholding I think. Banks are too critical to be allowed to be owned by individuals. That is why Nigeria had bank crisis recently and is not far away from one. Banking is a trust - if those guys - crashes with you money - your economy will crash. 68816419: |
Obaboon, For example in 2002 - when Abacha was butchering Nigerians, we were online, leading a revolution against Moi. Nairaland was formed what 2005 - - that is nearly 15yrs after.Kenya: Lively Chat Shows And Hi-Tech ways of Hunting for Votes 17 NOVEMBER 2002 Nairobi — The search for votes has gone hi-tech. Websites and chat groups, little heard of in previous elections, have become big crowd-pullers, and candidates without a website are the odd ones out. Mr Uhuru Kenyatta has one, so do NARC's Mwai Kibaki, Ford People's Simeon Nyachae and even SDP's Joe Donde, who withdrew his candidature on a Ford Kenya ticket to join James Orengo's party. Incidentally, Mr Donde's website, joedonde.com, still reads "Donde for President". One website, http://rcbowen.com, had interesting analyses, with Kenyans asking if Mr Odinga could be trusted. His fans (like Man Tinga) often ... |
Kenya=urbanization Nigeria = slumization. You cannot urbanize that fast without requisite infrastructure in urban areas. 68816419: |
I won't dignify most of the nonsense about my life but KenyaTalk where we cut our teeth - started with Gopher. You're truly an idiot. http://kenya.rcbowen.com/ From about 1992 until 2017, this was the home of the kenya.rcbowen.com website, which was the first Kenya website on the WWW. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to maintain the site in the style which it deserves. I encourage you to visit one of the other great Kenya community sites out there, such as KenyaTalk. Thanks to all the loyal particpants for a great 25 years. obaaderemi: |
Not the Philiph Emigwahi con I hope. While we were fighting Moi in 90s - Nigeria had basically given up hope. Thank God for viagra - otherwise Sani Abacha would probably be going for his 30yrs tenure. Man, we use to see Daniel Moi, and think Sani Abacha, and say we are lucky. Those Nigerian face marks; Man I was suprised to this day; your primitives ares still doing it. Abohboy: |
You Nigerians are just primitive. My uncle was programming in COBOL in 1980s for Kenya companies. Nigeria in the meantime were under military rule. forgiveness: |
You sound like a little Arrow. I know you're a proud dung fly looking for fresh mould of dung. Let me dump more for your helping... I was online as early as 1999. I started using computer in high school -97 and 98. After finishing high school - we had to wait for nearly 2yrs to be admitted to university - this was due to 90s student revolt against KANU dictatorship that basically meant universities were being opened and shut. So I enrolled like most of did for IMIS diploma course - and we use to browse a lot of porn - and yes GOOGLE. There were many online searches - Lycos, Yahoo, and many. I was 18yrs then.Nairobi had fiber and name it. Note kenya was trailblazer in internet connectivity. Africa Online was I think of Africa first ISP - owned by MIT kids - Makatiani, Ngweno and I forget the other guy - formed in 1994. I think they made fortune when they sold their ISP. Makatiani went to form FANISI capital. In same year I was moonlighting in ISP - Kenya Online - owned by a family friend. I was hired to sit the servers at night - and basically browse. By time were in 2nd yr of campus - half the class were working. By 3rd year I was "fully" employed and by 4th year working for the UN. The first time I participated in online forum was 2000 - I bet with were with "Kikuyu" then - (or someone close to him - Oldunn - the guy was genius but loved conspiracy theories) - it was called RCBowen.com (KenyaTalk) - run by white Kenyan. The level of debates there was pretty impressive. And quite revolutionary - we were fighting Moi and KANU.KenyaTalk itself was one Africa oldest forum - started in 1990s - when ftp/http had not even been 'discovered' - they were using i don't gopher protocol. Heck WWW was at infancy. Yes when Seun of Nairaland was in diapers - KenyaTalk was online - in 1992. obaaderemi: |
They didn't see - they analyzed many data points. They don't just randomly pick winners. Nairobi was below 30 then climbed slowly to No 6. Obviously for last few years we have trouble in real estate - so it may not be long before we are out. samorobo: |
