Precisely - a country of supposedly 200m - only 25M turn up to vote. That is world worst election turn out. sufferNsmiling: 2019 presidential election total disaster
their 76 million registered voters in nigeria but only 25 million to votes which is 30%. Out of all of these the winning party only got 16% of the vote so you have a situation where out of the 180 million nigerians only nine percent voted for the president. We have a president of nigeria which could not even get 10% of the population of the country to vote for him. In voter turn out somalia and southern sudan is now ahead of nigeria.
Nigeria is now the giant of failure and disappointment

Precisely. The turn out is a shocker. I think average Nigeria has totally lost trust in the political system. Pray for Oil. Nigeria really need it. tylann: The voter turnout was extremely low for a country of 200m people |

There is no better way to make Africa better than challenging Nigeria to use their brains and their incredible natural resources. The same need to happen in Congo. Both have about 25B trillion dollars of known natural resources each. Just imagine that! Unless you have other ideas - Nigeria doesn't need nice words - it need the truth, the reality and hard-hitting fact - that their country is not any different from a ZOO. spendoon: wow my friend Nairobi is a beautiful place but how about we stop this my country is better than yours stuff and focus on how to make Africa better than the western world |

Nigeria population is either inflated or something.
Been watching their election results - the total cast votes are low - they are more like what you have in Kenya.
I see in 2017 - the two major candidates got like 27M - Kenya two candidates got 15m.
You must be a fool to imagine Nigeria is 200M people! And only about 30M end up voting!!!!! |

Those of us from Kenya who learnt during 8-4-4 system (we dumped British system in 1984) are very worldly because we learnt nearly everything - from music to arts to history to mechanics to home science to religion studies. I think one point we were doing 20 subjects in primary schools! - I definitely remember being loaned more than 25 books from our home library!! I am not sure about South Africa - but we learnt pretty much most of Africa history - in primary school - we had to name all those ethiopian kings - going all the way to Tewodros I. Kenya History lessons were pretty much Std 8 - History & Geography of the world Std 7 - History & Geography of Africa - we had to learn all 52 countries - capital cities and major histories - like of Shaka Zulu, Tewodros,Mansa Musa, Benin Kingdom of Nigeria, name them. Std 6 - History & Geography of East Africa - we learnt deeply about Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania Std 5 - History & Geography of Province Std 4 - History & Geography of District Std 3 - History & Geography of Division Std 2 - History& Geography of Location Std 1 - History of Geography of your Sub-location Pre-school - Mother tongue. We had to cram all that history in readniness for national exams that could determine your life fate - Africa capitals, we had to know all Ethiopian empires,King Shakas etc. And those were probably 20 questions. Then you did civics. Then some geogrpahy. It was pure hell on earth. Then you had to know music - all italians nonsense - tempo -allegrato - ohoo boy. Then you jumped to arts. Then crafts. Then business studies. Then before you said enough you need to know what seam is and all sort of home-sciences - that including lots of clothe making, sewing, baking. And all had their practical projects that were examinable. Ohoo boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was CRAZY. That was primary school. In high schools - we did like 15 subjects in form 1!! And that was out of maybe 30 subjects the school offered - from aviation to masonry! - you picked like 10 complusory and few specific one. Sadly this become too much for the kids - Kids became 'miserable' with all the studies, the bent backs from carrying 20 textbooks became headline news and they dumped the systems down - now kids just learn 5 subjects (math, eng, kiswahili, science & social studies). They don't KNOW ANYTHING When we get to high schools - then we basically learn more in depth. Now they said the systems was EPIC failure and we are backing to dumped down systems where kids just learn 3 subjects really - maths, english and sciences. ednited: You see, this is the problem. We haven't promoted our history enough. People were supposed to know Empeor menelik because he is the one who fought and kicked Italians to not get colonized. He was such a civilized smart man. He brought the first car in Africa, first post office, first cinema, first hotel, first train, first school. . . He is a real father to Ethiopia. Our reason for our freedom and civilization.
Once, famine got to Ethiopia. . .cows were dying. A disisease ruined the country. He get off his chair, arranged his cloth and started working with farmers until Ethiopia was good. He is famous in his personality. He aided the Italians who fought him on Battle of Adwa. He is a forgiving man with a brave heart. Some people have occured now who insult him as a racist man. That is all a lie and i hope and wish Africa could have leaders as this man. May he rest in peace

Impressive. I always thought South African had lower fertility - definitely South Africa, Namibia and Bostwana have hit the sweatpot of 2 kids - kenya may get there by around 2030. XhosaNostra: "Stunted growth" to go with our declining fertility rate. It balances things out. Did you know that we're currently at 2 children per household on average? Yeah that's right, because breeding with careless abandon is the reason why many people find themselves in a fix. |

I am sorry to hear that. I think each region should invoke the secession clause and go seperate. ednited: I don't know what they want us to be. TPLF is throwing Amharas from their own region and Oromos are throwing Amharas from Oromia region. It was easy if they just collect us and throw us to another planet.
How many years do we have to hear these insane people? It is like Amhara is their common enemy because Amharas want Ethiopia to be one, and if that happens. . .none of them would have a chance to get on power. I just hope Oromo liberation front and TPLF destroy eachother. They are blood and power thirsty beings
About the conference, we have tried that a million times. They keep betraying. TPLF hugs you on tv then insult you in their city. OLF hugs you on tv then do same thing again. Abiy asked OLF to stop the fight on tv but they refused several times. OLF has been literally killing and slaughtering people. |

I think they are okay - anticipatory bail - but the conditions need to be tough. You see mature legal systems like US - bail & bond terms are very tough. Here someone has stolen 1 billion and his bail terms is 1M kshs. Anyway we are nearly ticking all the boxes. The seizure and forfeiture of assets is BIG for me. It makes corruption a worthless exercise - if gov can track, trace and seize all stolen loots - from you, family and friends. kikuyu2: True-wtf else has anticipatory bail? Sorry but I think most Amharas thought they were buddies with Oromos & Somalis because they didn't like the tigrays. I think Oromos and Somalis have huge axe to grind against Amharas and Tigrays. That temporary alliance ended with Oromo PM Abiy. Amharas are in big trouble because the trigrays are mostly settled in their northern deserts - but you Amharas are in nearly every fertile highlands deep in Oromo land. You're like Kikuyus of Kenya - settled all over - and nearly everyone has a grievance against you. Big trouble. You need to have a national conference where Ethiopians forgive each other like South Africans did. We tried to copy the South Africans and had a Truth & Reconciliation thing..but nobody cried, nobody asked for forgiveness and there has been no reconciliation.
The so called Truth & Justice reconciliation report is gathering dust because nobody really want to replay the past and there are no easy solutions. For me it's enough if people are given an ear to tell their sob stories, shed some tears and some of victims & aggressor forgive each other. I can imagine there are Oromos who feel Amharas grabbed their fertile land. ednited: Ufff |

I think South Africa will eventually catch up with Kenya if they are not careful. As for Ghana - I think the trauma of Jerry Rawling is still fresh in any corrupt mind. We don't have the luxury of allowing military man like Jerry Rawling to clean up our mess. The same way Kagame is single-handily dealing with corruption. And as you well know we have been very democratic (by african standards) the longest with maybe Zambia & TZ - and Botswana. Anyway corruption is a big problem in Kenya. We need to continue dealing with it. And we are. Not through Buhari or some personality but through building and rebuilding institutions. Danielnino00: The usual "Kenya has this" bullsh*t You seem to have everything with little or no result..
Is Ghana not a Democratic country too? Corruption in Ghana is one of the lowest in Africa... What about South Africa? Is Kenya more Democratic than those countries?? |

I think oromos and somalis have huge axes to grind because they feel historically and for like 100yrs plus - the Amharas and lately the Tigrayas has had it good. That is what need to get resolved if Ethiopia is to remain united. Oromo and Somali grievances need to be heard and somehow redressed. Hidding tribes or banning it like Rwanda won't help. I can tell you what we have done in Kenya. We recognised tribes and have put criteria that any appointment must reflect the face of kenya. We do tribal census of jobs to ensure every tribe is getting their % of jobs. If there is a gov job - an omo person or anuak from deep southern ethiopia applied - they are more than guaranteed to get. We do the same for women(33%) and disabled(5%). We also have equisalation fund to help those regions that historically have remained marginalized. This is work in progress obviously but we learnt some lesson from our 2017 tribal warfare. You guys already have strong federalism. What is needed is to just ensure national resources are equitably distributed. Do census of police & army - ensure tigrays are 5% - oromos are 30% or something like that. Otherwise Oromos and Somalis will always feel the need to attack Amharas and Tigrays. ednited: People could still tell your tribe by your name here too. They can easily tell me my tribe but putting it on your ID makes you feel different from other Ethiopians and it says that your tribe matters than your nationality.
I wanted to reply to what you have said before, which is related to Ethiopia being divided is good option. . .which is not. The people are being blind here enji they could work it out together. Amhara people are always ready to make unity with other Ethiopians. Southern Ethiopians and Amhara don't clash. Just the others which are driving us crazy. Sometimes I think it is a disease. They don't have any point. Still Amharas are dying and getting misplaced, you will never hear them wanting to separate and this is one thing every Ethiopian knows. May God help others to be like the Southern Ethiopians too. |
