Politics › Re: Nigerian Anthem Sang Before South-Africa's Anthem in Capetown by Ryda(m): 9:13pm On May 07, 2013
Zeus I: Nigerians are always proving their illitracy in matters like this, in a thread like this, before the whole wide world like this. So if Obama yawns, with his mouth agape, in public -- on a formal occasion, Nigerians will consider it the etiquette en vogue and expect our president to act likewise? Eh-kwa? Our culture must be preserved! If U.S wishes to sing Nigerian anthem first when Nigerian dignitarian visits that will be their business, in Nigeria, our anthem goes first! Critics, go hang yourselves!

MEILYN: let me start d war......Nigeria is beta dan South Africa, we re d giant of Africa, so any country our President goto in Africa, its a must dat our Nation Anthem will be sang 1st....Gbam am ready 4 ur reply
naptu2: It pains me very much that I don't have the video I'd like to show (President Azikiwe being honoured by Howard University circa 1992. Arise O' Compatriots was played before Star Spangled Banner), however you can search for The Last Night Of The Proms (2001). The conductor was an american and the event was held not long after September 11th. Both The Star Spangled Banner and God Save The Queen were played. There was no official US delegation, neither was there a president or head of state in attendance.

Note that God Save The Queen is always the last piece of music played at the Last Night of The Proms.
[q
Ibro Yaya: ^^^ That is not predential treatment. It is simply called Protocol!
uote
naptu2: Thisday did not breach protocol in anyway in Ogun State. The event was a private event, not a state event. They could have chosen to play the Star Spangled Banner and they couldn't have chosen not to. Whether Clinton is not representing the US is totally immaterial. However, protocol states that when the national anthem is being played in an event in which another anthem will be played (it could even be your school anthem), the national anthem must be played last, because it is the most important anthem.

There is nothing that prevents or makes it illegal for Thisday to play the american anthem at their event.
a
ULSHERLAN: So since he is an ex president of the united states does that still qualify him for presidential treatment. Btw there are some decisions that ex presidents don't have power over. So when ur an ex just know your days are over and don't expect all time vip treatments

thor=Ibro Yaya]Am just watching the reception of GEJ in capetown live on AIT. I notice that Nigerian anthem was sang first before the South african Anthem.
Am then wondering why the buhaha when American anthem was sang first during Clintons Visit to Ogun State.
I think is just protocol that you honour your guest first. Nigerians should learn or what do you think?[/quote]
Crime › Re: Jealous Woman Burns Friend Bosoms by Ryda(m): 9:11pm On May 07, 2013
dani1luv: A 31-year old woman has been arraigned before Apapa Magistrate’s court, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, for allegedly burning her friend’s breast over suspicion that her friend was secretly sleeping with her lover.
The incident happened at Railwayline, Ijora Badia where both friends live. Miss Ifeoma Nwosa allegedly assaulted Blessing Amade by hitting her with fist blows severally and using a burning firewood to assault her right breast during the fight.

Blessing’s breast was badly burnt and she was rushed to Apapa General Hospital, Lagos where she is being treated.
It was gathered that Ifeoma, who suspected Blessing of dating her lover, had confronted her on several occasions. But Blessing denied the affair.
On the day the incident happened, Ifeoma who had gone out was tipped off by her neighbours that Blessing had slept again with her boyfriend.

When Ifeoma confronted Blessing, an aurgument ensued between them during which Blessing warned her to stop accusing her about such a thing and that if she wanted to keep her boyfriend, she should control him and not her.
This angered Ifeoma who allegedly attacked and rained several blows on Blessing and also took a burning firewood and burnt her breast.
The matter was reported at Ijora Police Division and Ifeoma was arrested and charged to court under the Criminal Code.

She is now facing a three-count charge of assault occassioning harm and inflicting grievous injury on Blessing.
When the charge was read to her, she pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr H.0. A. Amos granted her bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till 22 May, 2013.
Ifeoma has been ordered remanded in prison custody pending when she will fulfill her bail condition.

Celebrities › Re: Paul Okoye & Elshama Igbanoi Pictured Together by Ryda(m): 9:07pm On May 07, 2013
Realest123: 19 year old Elshama Igbanoi's baby was actually born April 7th in the UK, four days before Paul Okoye and his girlfriend Anita welcomed their son, Andre, in Atlanta.

I spoke with Elshama's mum this morning and she confirmed that P-Square's Paul Okoye is indeed the father of Elshama's son but didn't want to give more details. But contrary to earlier reports that Elshama is stranded in the hospital because she's unable to pay her bills, I can confirm that they are out of the hospital and chilling at home. The child's birth certificate bears Paul Okoye's name but only a DNA test can ultimately prove who the father really is.

The Okoyes are still not saying anything about the issue. In fact, someone from their camp said they do not plan to issue a statement or react to the story in any way.

Politics › Re: Dangote To Open $8bn Oil Refinery by Ryda(m): 5:27pm On Apr 13, 2013
zizman: Another chapter will this year be opened in the downstream sector of the petroleum industry, when business mogul Alhaji Aliko Dangote kicks off his plan to establish a refinery in the country.

The federal government had, in 2011, granted approval to 19 multinationals for the setting up of private refineries in the country, but none of them has come on stream due to the regulation of the price of fuel in the country.

Though details of where the refinery will be sited and its capacity were yet to be made known, work on the refinery, which will cost $8 billion, will begin this year.

At a breakfast meeting with some senior editors to mark his 57th birthday in Lagos, Alhaji Dangote said work will start on the refinery once his company secured the final approval from the federal government.

While acknowledging the fact that only a mad businessman would consider establishing a refinery in Nigeria under the present uncertain business terrain of subsidising the downstream sector of the petroleum industry, Dangote pleaded with the government to allow market forces to determine the price of fuel to allow the private sector play a significant role in the industry.

"We are all aware that the federal government had issued 19 licences to the private sector to establish refineries in the country, but how many of them have come on stream? There is uncertainty in the sector and only a mad businessman will put up a refinery now, but we are set to do that," he said.

Alhaji Dangote urged the federal government to put in place critical infrastructure in all sectors of the economy to kick-start its rapid development.

He said that with the country's population expected to hit 200 million by 2015, there were no serious plans to take care of the huge population.

He also called on the government to diversify the economy by intensifying reforms in agriculture.
