They should just give him scholarship to go for PhD abroad.

When he comes back, let him be immediately made a professor.

No need for him to go through the ranks: lecturer 3, lecturer 2, lecturer 1, senior lecturer, reader, associate professor and professor.

They should just skip all those ranks and make him a professor.

Update from SIGGY .ng

Otoko Steven Edwards, a student of Rivers state university (RSUST), Port Harcourt, has bagged a first class degree in Pure and Applied Mathematics from the Department of Mathematics, Siggy reports.

Otoko Steven Edwards bagged a First Class degree from the Department of Mathematics, Rivers State University, breaking a 41-year-old record.

The young man was first admitted into the university to study Mechanical Engineering but switched to Mathematics.

He took this decision when he discovered that he has an enormous flair for figures than he had for engines

To be able to graduate with the highly impressive result, Edwards said he had many sleepless nights during which he studied hard to remain on top till the end

But what is most exciting about the news is that Edwards is the very first student to achieve that feat since the establishment of the department in 1980.

Siggy gathered, Edwards stated he was initially admitted into the school to study Mechanical Engineering but switched to Mathematics after discovering that he was more of a Math person.

After my NYSC year (2011), I have been doing hard labour from one company to another as a factory workers. Even, I followed motor as motor boy at Kuje to distribute pure water to Lugbe market, Jabi market, Area 1 to 10, Supply to Gwarinpa (Otedola Avenue) to Otedola main house, to zone 1 to 5. Omo you can't do all these without Gin or pelebe cos we do carry coverbody Mackapolo motor that contains 1000 bags of pure water. If motor spoil for road you gat to sleep there with motor to avoid looting part of the motor. There was a day i returned from my first trip and the manager perceived Gin odour from me and she exposed me to my guarantors. They later frustrated me out of the job. I left Abuja and opened my self employed biz (Cloth Designer). There was high patronage but low profit due my specialised on Design only. I closed shop and dropped my sucide note on nairaland and it makes front page that year. Mr Seun ( Nairaland C. E. BitterSoul:
Hello nairalanders, this is one year and few weeks since I created this account. You all remember this post? https://www.nairaland.com/6249966/lamentations-bitter-man#95936848

Well the last days of 2020 was literally hell to me. Thanks to few people like pcguru1 (I don't know what happened to that Monika) that helped me to survive after reading the post above. God bless you wherever you are. Let me briefly tell my 2021 story so that everyone can learn.

The challenges
December 2020, I was as broke as harmattan forest. I left my 20k monthly job out of frustration few months earlier and just settled for a 10k monthly job because it has a future. I remember one day on the last week of December 2020, I had just N10 left with me, no food, no water and no hope. I'm that kind of person that can't ask for help unless anonymously. I was chatting with random old friends and one conversation led to another and in the end one person sent me 3k the other 2k, so I had 5k. Immediately I went out, withdraw the money and bought garri, beans and bread. Thank God I had gas in my cylinder. That was how I became"rich" again.

Few days later, I went to my alma mater to enjoy my private time with nature since everyone else have traveled for Christmas holiday. So while alone, something strange happened; I got an sms that I have been selected for the federal government loan that I applied for. I clicked the linked and provided my BVN. Few days later I got alert of about 280k. That was how 2020 ended.

January 2021...
I cracked my brain on what type of business I could do with that money. While on that, feeding and some other expenses was sapping the money. In the end I settled for POS business. Being that I had spent most of the money on feeding, bills, repaying loans and acquiring everything needed for the business, I had just little money left for the business. I couldn't run the business myself because that my 10k job which later became 15k was very important to me; it had something I was looking for for the future, so I had to employ salesgirl that I would pay salaries to.

Now I needed loan to keep the business afloat. The emergence of UGM in Owerri made POS business risky so I was careful about collecting the loan. At the end of April, I felt it was the right time to collect the loan. A friend offered to loan me 150k in which I will pay 500 every single day till whenever I will return the capital (at his request). I agreed on collected the money on the 30th of April.

The big problem
On the 1st of may, my salesgirl was defrauded of 96k from the 150k. I sourced for money elsewhere to fund the business, and two months later on July, armed robbers attacked at broad daylight and collected everything. By October my salesgirl left, I employed another one but barely two weeks into the job, wayo people attacked her, collected all the money on her including my two ATM cards with her and the pin to the cards. Before her eye cleared, they have zeroed my account. That was November 2021

The testimony...

After all the disappointment and heartbreak, I am ending the year on a good note.

Firstly, I have just paid for a one bedroom apartment for two years in advance; paid for upholstery and will be fixing everything else before the end of this year. Remember the 15k job? It started yielding results already.

Secondly, apart from someone I'm owing 50k and federal government, I'm no longer owing anyone else.

Thirdly, I've found a love

NB
When you're broke, you don't reason normal. But please don't let desperation lead you into something bad. I've had to visit native doctor at a point...(check my post before this one). I would have considered suicide if not for my strong nature. But at last, I see hope.

Don't underestimate the power of the internet. Few thousands of naira for Facebook add was a major game changer for me.

When you're in bad situation, see it as a dark cloud that must give way for the sun at dawn. I do not have fat bank account; I may not even travel for Christmas, but I've moved from despair to hopefulness. If I could make it, YOU can make it.

Politics › Re: The Problem With My Yoruba Brethren -Ladi Ayodeji by sageb: 10:18am On Dec 10, 2021
Tofax:
Late Senator Abraham Adesanya told us that Yoruba has no plural. We are not Yorubas, but simply Yoruba. That said, it’s time once more for Yoruba to rethink; that was probably why the renowned dramatist and singer, Chief Hubert Ogunde, waxed the hit song, Yoruba Ronu (Yoruba Think), when he realised the need for the ethnic group to wake up, and reposition during the dark days of the political turmoil in the old Western Region.

Youruba have a big problem, indeed, multiple problems, from poor leadership to loss of direction, cultural pollution, laziness, cheap compromise and sheer stupidity. Under the late first Premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the Yoruba were pace-setters. Other ethnic groups have caught up with us and even overtaken us. Yoruba Ronu (Yoruba Think).

We used to be the artisans Nigeria relied on to build houses, run public infrastructures, do all the maintenance chores, etcetera. Our people were the tradesmen who ran mechanic workshops, fixed vehicle electricals, batteries and carried out all repairs you could think of, whether home appliances, factory machines, name it, Yoruba were the acclaimed technicians who kept our nation running.

Those who went to school excelled. We did well in all branches of education and pioneered many fields of study in medicine, architecture, law and the humanities. We are home to two prestigious universities in Lagos and Ile-Ife; our academics were renowned for their brilliance and integrity. The South West enjoyed high literacy level because of Awolowo’s free education programme in his days as Premier and during the UPN governments of the LOOBO States in 1979.

We used to be leaders in industry; money and capital markets investment were our natural turf, while Ndigbo were known for their dominance in commerce. Over time, the algorithm began to change. Yoruba began to yield ground to other ethnic groups. Even the media, where Yoruba were known for their natural competence and managerial skills, now appears to be in the hands of Niger Delta businessmen.

Of course, members of the rival ethnic groups should not be expected to fold their arms and watch development dominated by the Yoruba. If our people lose their competitive edge and the advantage of being the gateway to the world because of the ports, they have no one to blame but themselves.

People complain that Ndigbo are buying up all the lands all over Nigeria, including the South West. But these lands are being bought, not seized. So, no one should complain if our South East neighbours have become more enterprising than the other ethnic groups. Ndigbo should not be punished or hated for their business acumen and bold business vision. We should copy them instead!

In the South West, our youth have become lazy. Take a casual walk around the streets in the morning hours, you’d see them in groups drinking in beer joints. Some cluster around bus stations. Many work as touts or Area Boys who extort money from Marwa and okada riders. When traders go to buy goods in markets, Yoruba Area Boys waylay them and demand “land dues.” Some of our smart, jobless youth who are tech savvy, use those skills to perpetrate cyber fraud (Yahoo-Yahoo). There’re also various types of thugs like the defeated One Million Boys, or Awawa Boys; cult groups are very active all over the place when elections are over, because their political patrons have no use for them once in power.

Yoruba Ronu (Yoruba Think), Ogunde’s heart cry is still resonating because our ethnic group is taking the back seat in all aspects of life in Nigeria. When the landowners of the South West finish selling all their lands to Ndigbo, they’d become tenants in their own territory. All our forests are being converted into housing estates, even as the need for agricultural production becomes more obvious. Yoruba youth don’t farm again because they’re lazy.

All the jobs that require physical strength are taboo for Yourba youth. That’s why all the cart pushers who sell agricultural products, water and other products are from the North. Arewa youth supply our foodstuffs, beef and several other products, while Ndigbo fill the gaps in domestic appliances, consumer electronics and other imports. How many Yoruba sell domestic cooking gas?

In sports, especially soccer, Igbo youth make up 80 per cent of our teams. Same is true of other sports. Yoruba wake up! Our leaders must repent of their greed and wickedness and bring true development to the region. Yoruba need great leaders at all levels to give direction to their people. We need to rediscover our competitive edge and contribute positively to Nigeria’s growth, with our political sagacity and natural diplomacy.

Nobody is asking the Yoruba to dominate other tribes. No! What one is saying is that we should reinvent ourselves and offer genuine leadership to our people, instead of using our youth as political thugs during election seasons and dumping them on the streets to fend for themselves. That’s not nice! If only Yoruba could think!

Yoruba should rediscover their Omoluabi nature, that’s what this piece is all about.

I thought deeply how best to title this but every option I come up with has its shortfalls.
Anyways, fact is I find what goes on different social fora amongst our youth very alarming. It appears our youths have lost focus, every issue is viewed with parochial interest, intellect is gone to the dogs. Name-calling, ethnic bashing, gender war is the order of the day and at the end of the day, how satisfaction is derived from such appalling display of childishness beats my imagination.
Nigeria is currently in a mess and the future appears bleak for most of these youth but do they care? No!
They are pushing for support for politicians based on ethnic considerations but they are very quick to forget these politicians are an ethnic group of their own, they look out for themselves alone and do not give a hoot if their followers die or live.
Obasanjo is a Yoruba man, how did his 8 years of presidency help the lot of the average Yoruba youth?
Babangida and Abdulsalam are both from Niger state but last time I visited Niger state, the only legacy of their presidency is the beautiful mansions they have for themselves with massive gates and security to shield them from the rest of the population. Jonathan is from Bayelsa state, last time I was in Bayelsa there is nothing to show this state has ever produced a President, even the iconic East-West road remained the way it was.
Buhari is from Katsina state, I do not need to rehash what the average Katsina youth is going through today.
Now there is a clamor for president of Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba extractions by my fellow youths but the truth is this, non of the top contenders can fix this country because the country is structurally defective! There is a fundamental problem that needs to be fixed which is where we the youths should focus our energies on.
Nigeria is like a building and presidents are like paints. We are obsessed with how good or bad the paint looks but the real issue is that the building is defective. No matter how good the painting job eventually becomes, the building is still structurally defective and unfit for habitation. If we get the structure corrected, no matter how bad the paint job is, the building will still be habitable and those living in it can go to bed with their eyes closed.
Trump may not be a good paint job but the Americans rested easy because they have a solid structure.

So rather than spend time fighting over which tribe will produce the next president, this is the time to question the agenda of each aspirant no matter where he/she comes from. We need to force them to engage the youth on real issues and we must have our minimum expectations of the leadership we desire. We should be tired of the circus we are forced to participate in by these politicians and objectively engage as Nigerian youths. Even if we do not make the full impact we expect, a message must have been sent to the political class to tidy up their acts.

Nigeria is headed in a dangerous direction, it is only her youth who will be the recipient of the decisions of today in the future that can change the direction. We need to start questioning the status quo, ethnic/tribal bashings will take us nowhere, spending valuable time comparing sexual prowess will not save us from the doom ahead. Today we take pride In announcing how lucky we are to run away from our own land to another man’s land, how will the next 10 years look like? A time may come when our new hosts will ask us to go back to whence we came from, where then will be our next anchor point?
Or……have the Nigerian youth finally given up hope and chose to play the court jester in a palace where he is destined to be the ultimate kingmaker.
Well said
Nigerian Youths need to stand up and change the narrative.
