Car Talk › Re: What Is The Law On Overtaking Police Convoy? Was I Wrong? by samcolee(m): 3:10pm On Dec 13, 2023 |
Kelvin30286063: On Wednesday 6th of December, I was driving my family from Ondo to Akure to launch a new business.
We plan to start the event at 12 and it was already past 11am so I was rushing. Along Akure road, I saw this three police convoy going in front but they were not very fast.
I have a really fast car so I was like, I should overtake them and be on my way, I flashed the last pickup with about 3 policemen at the back but they didn't make any reaction and didn't gesture for me to go.
The road ahead of us was long and free, no incoming vehicles so I saw it as an opportunity.
After flashing twice again and no response, I decided to overtake all three pickup vehicles quickly so I switched to sport mode and decided to use my pedal shifter to go faster.
As soon as I revved and started overtaking them, they went crazy and started driving zig-zag on the road leaving me absolutely no room to go.
At the end they ran me into the nearly bush and parked me off. One of them decided to use their vehicles to intentionally brush my car while parking me off the road. They all came down, almost 20 of them and started shooting in the air.
They started shouting come down from this car! Hitting my car everywhere with fist and hitting my glass with the tail of their guns. Somehow my window didn't break even after they hit them 5 or 6 times. (Respect to Acura on that)
One of them pointed his gun at my vehicle and was about to shoot. I roll down my glass and started begging them.
My wife was sitting in front with me and my 2 year old daughter was sitting at the back in the hand of a friend we took along with us to act as MC for the occasion.
My wife quickly collected my daughter from the guy and held her to her chest cos she was already panicking and crying.
I think that was what saved our live cos as soon as they saw my daughter, somehow they calm down a little and started trying to drag me out of the car.
I vehemently refused to go down cos I know I will be beaten or even shot. After a few minutes of acting upset, shooting in the air, one of them that was fat and looks like their leader came down from the middle van.
That was the first time I noticed that the middle van was actually covered at the back which means they may be carrying something. They didn't use a bullion van so there was no indication that they were moving money and they didn't use siren either.
Long story short, the big guy that looked like the boss came to me and said why did I overtake them.
I explained that we were in a hurry and I flashed a few times before I attempted to overtake them and I also saw that the road was clear.
He looked at me, looked at my wife, looked at my crying daughter and looked at the guy at the back then asked me to come down that nothing will happen to me, I took my company's ID card and my guy at the back and I came down.
He checked the ID and said don't do that again. The others were shouting he must follow us to the station bla bla bla but he was calm.
Eventually they let us go.
They damaged the bumper of my vehicle in the process.
I know I was in the wrong by overtaking them without anyone gesturing that I can go but seriously, WHAT IS THE RULE TO THAT? Especially on highway, with a wider road and not within the city.
I had to apologise to my family later cos I know it was a traumatic experience for them and I accepted my fault but I'm still confused on how I was wrong. The road was straight, long, clear of incoming vehicles and I flashed and horned.
Are we expected to follow convoy from wherever we see them to where ever they are going even if they are driving at 80km per hr? The problem is they don't know your intentions and it's risky for them too, personally if I notice their vehicle I'll not be close enough incase they're under attack |

I will need to confirm this because I do not think it is that bad yet. I bought NAN for my 2 year old when she was still a baby now. 6,000 now, how? Cheaper or I'm not reading right? |

psalmsjob: I'm posting this as a response to the topic that made Nairaland front page yesterday; "See What Someone Bought With An Hour Minimum Wage In The UK £10", the link: https://www.nairaland.com/7929193/see-what-someone-bought-hour
UK & US ARE OVER-RATED NIGERIA IS STILL BETTER in terms of cost of living see a practical example why doing a price comparison: 1 pound to 1 naira today is N1,001 so are you saying with £10 x N1,001 = N10,001 you cannot buy everything in that basket and collect change in Nigeria today?
1 Sliced Bread = N800 2 Spaghetti = N1400 1 Gesha = N600 1 live chicken = N3,000 1 75cl soya Oil = N1,400 1 Midium size Butter = N600 2 Gino Tomato paste = N1,000
Total = N8,800 so your change is N1,200 that's if you exchange pound to naira at offical rate and buying at the most expensive stores or high brands. If you exchange at black market rate and buy at public market "days" you will collect as much as N6,000 after buying everything in that basket....that's about £6 left.
LET'S JUST THANK GOD FOR WHAT WE HAVE AND STOP LOOKING AT AND GLORIFYING ANOTHER MAN'S LAND MORE THAN OUR OWN....OUR OWN NA OUR OWN O How much is your minimum wage per hour |

Nairaland General › Re: 5 Things You Need To Do Before The Year Ends by samcolee(m): 6:07pm On Nov 30, 2023 |
Kalatium: Hey goal getters, as the year comes to an end, here are 5 things I’d advise you to do before the year runs out.
1. Reflect on Achievements: Before the year ends, take some time for introspection. Reflect on your achievements, challenges, and areas for improvement throughout the year.
2. Start Setting Goals Now: I know this may sound cliche, but the earlier you set the goals, the clearer they are. Use the facts from your evaluation to set clear goals for the coming year.
3. Strengthen Your Network: Networking is a powerful tool for career growth. Reconnect with colleagues, mentors, and industry peers. Attend networking events, join professional associations.
4. Work-Life Balance Assessment: Take a close look at your work-life balance. Assess whether your current work schedule and responsibilities align with your personal and professional priorities.
5. Financial Planning: I know we’re getting to that time of the year where we spend a lot on festivities. It is advisable to review your financial situation, spend wisely and set financial goals for the coming year.
Which of them speaks to you the most? Who knew there will be cashless policy? Who knew there'll be COVID or that govt will stop paying subsidy bro just pray work and enjoy yourself in Nigeria you can't predict next year |

Rich4god: Am lending my voice to this thread https://www.nairaland.com/7922406/wife-why-life-women-complicated#127165126
A couple of days back, my wife put to bed using CS. Initially we had a baby before, I a know how complicated and painful the pregnancy and childbirth was.
Now I was in the theatre during the CS and I saw first hand how someone's abdomen was sliced open and the baby pulled out. I also saw how doctors were putting their hands into someone's abdomen and how they finally stitched her up. It wasn't an easy sight to behold. Right now, she's recovering, but the pain she's passing through is much.
To me, this is the highest form of sacrifice that someone can give for the family.
So to the men and husband out there..... before you ask your wife to be "what she is bringing to table", kindly think about the sacrifice they make in bringing your children to the world. Additionally taking care of the baby after birth till he/she can walk ain't easy coupled with other house chores |

Amaaranthine: Day 1
One moment, I'm grumbling about this NYSC thing; the next, I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas. That was how I stayed on my phone two days ago, refreshing my dashboard like what felt like a million times, and then bam! It was there - my call-up letter.
“NYSC Perm Orient Camp, Yikpata, EDU Kwara State."
You'd think this news should've been a downer – Kwara wasn't even on my wishlist. But no, I was over the moon. I hurried to Nairaland and soaked up stories of ex-Yikpata corpers. Most of these stories were horrible.
My reaction? Bring it on! I said I couldn't wait to document my own experiences.
But that evening, the weight of the disappointment and sadness I should have felt earlier began to fall on me. I sobbed like a baby who had lost her favorite doll.
“You’ve seen Lagos, now, add Ibadan. Stay a night, then hit Kwara. You'll have two more states under your belt.”
It was from my Father after I had mentioned breaking my journey in either of the states/cities.
I'm sold on this immediately. Next thing I knew, I found my fellow PCMs heading to Kwara. We hustled through motor parks and made some grand plans that would later fail, and this morning, we were huddled at ITC park - all six of us, where we would leave three lazy hours later than we were supposed to.
So, here I am, maybe halfway into this 12+ hour journey, feeling like I am on a big jar of nervousness and unadulterated excitement.
Three weeks in Yikpata? No wahala! Let's see what it holds!
Meanwhile, our driver is amazing. Calm. If ITC had an app and we could rate their drivers, ours would get a 5-star rating from everyone here. I camped there, tbh it was a nice experience Though I relocated back to South |
