PoliticsRe: What's Exactly Stopping Nigeria From Having 24/7 Electricity? by samdunzo: 4:27pm On Sep 06, 2020
Centralized power grid.... a nation of 200m should have multiple grids and not only one. Decentralization of the power sector will help greatly, as new companies will spring up and be able to provide power

I don’t know why these guys are giving igbos a hard time. You claim to want One Nigeria, but then deny them the right to rule? What type of bull is that?
PoliticsRe: #northernproject Trends As Some Northerners Express displeasure by samdunzo: 9:40pm On Sep 03, 2020
I predicted this awhile ago. The APC ticket for 2023 will be given to the South. But getting the ticket doesn’t assure victory. PDP will give the ticket to a northerner, either Atiku or tambuwal, and they will win massively. Just watch.....

There are many farming but herders, kidnappers, terrorists have made life for farmers tough.....

Feeder roads to farms in the rainy season is not helping matters as many are simply terrible for transportation of farm produce. I pity poultry farmers, they can barely feed themselves not to speak of their birds...

Buhari should take decisive steps and plan for the future instead of the usual shock and other expressions he displays... This is the time for action Mr President
True as well. All in all, Buhari’s nonchalant attitude in the areas of education and security are now harming the rest of the populace. The sad thing is, if these criminals were from the south, they likely would have been dealt with by now

simplesearch:
The border closure has achieved no purpose as it were, I was against the closure ab initio. The multiplier effect will be such that since we are unable to attain self sufficiency in food production we'll be at the mercy of the forces of supply. Let the border be open but with stringent regulatory measure that will only allow importation of items for which we are comparatively at disadvantage. Let the govt not fear a backlash, since only God is omniscient. They can start with a commodity at a time.
Yes this is a good idea. Unfortunately however, the closure and subsequent rise in prices has exposed just how fragile the food market is. So, now it can be used against us as leverage. In theory, closing borders sounded good, but Nigeria is not equipped to handle the needs of 200m+ people when most farmers are still using hoe and cutlass. Real 21st century farming requires both science and technology, which goes back to the lack of attention in our education sector. Hopefully we learned and will plan better next time

PoliticsRe: If I Were To Become A President In Nigeria. My 10 Agenda by samdunzo: 3:47pm On Sep 01, 2020
I would go back to the parliamentary system, restructure Nigeria into 6 regions plus the FCT, implement resource control, and to avoid the fate of the first republic, would have regional and federal parliament. Regional parliaments would send a rep from each LGA of the region, while federal parliament would consist of 60 reps from the 6 regions, and 10 from the FCT. Lastly, I would ensure that there is a clear separation from regional and federal politics by advocating for regional parties and federal political parties. For instance, APC and PDP would be federal parties, while a party like APGA would be a regional party. Sorry for the long essay sha smiley

Why doesn’t Nigeria combine all federal roads to have a national road system like the US. Furthermore, responsibility for maintaining roads can be shared by both the federal and state governments.

PoliticsIs Nigeria Salvageable by samdunzo(op): 6:56pm On Aug 30, 2020
It’s very obvious that Nigeria has failed big time. While many have offered solutions (restructuring), the ruling class does not seem interested. So, fellow Nigerians, how long before the center fails to hold? Do we think we will restructure, and if not, where do we go from there?

Tianamen1:
Rossinky,

I totally agree with you with regards to Nigeria being poorer than it is perceived to be. However, INDUSTRIALIZATION rather than Economic Diversification is our main issue. The difference between the two may seem little but the prescribed solutions for each differ significantly.

The oil and gas industry represents less than 10 percent of Nigeria's GDP. what is not diversified is government's revenues as Nigeria has one of the lowest Tax to GDP ratios on Earth.

Nigeria also has the paradox of having the richest black people on earth at the same time having the highest number of people living in extreme poverty on Earth.

SLS once made a comment that 90 percent of the funds in banks are owned by only 10 percent of Nigerian citizens.

INCREASING THE GOVERNMENT'S REVENUE

When we hear the word taxation, we all think about taxing businesses and we know that this is counter productive.

Other resource rich nations such as Norway, UAE, and states in The US such as Alaska and Texas, have low business taxes and little to no income taxes.
Income generation is mainly from property taxes, vehicle taxes, estate taxes and sales taxes. This is necessary because resource rich societies usually have high levels of inequality. Our leaders/looters would never agree to this as the burden of taxes would fall squarely on them, the 10 percent that control the 90 percent of bank deposits.

THE PATH TO INDUSTRIALIZATION.

You rightly noted that our infrastructural deficit is not responsible for our poverty. You also rightly noted that foreigners are excelling in businesses in Nigeria. You gave an excellent example of a Nigerian, Innoson, who is making all of us proud with his accomplishments.

- The Secret Sauce

1. Quality basic education: a child of a carpenter who attends a good school with children of bankers and lawyers is more likely to start an IKEA or a Home Depot than an accountants child. In The US, immigrants contribute vastly to increased productivity, not because they are necessarily smarter or naturally harder working, but for the fact that they have so little and their mates have so much more so they hustle harder.

Most countries realize that quality basic public education accomplishes two important goals towards industrialization
- increased competition
- reduced birth rate.

2. Quality health care.

Health is wealth so a healthy nation is a wealthy one as people will waste fewer resources on their personal health so they will have more time to focus on productive ventures.

These two factors of Industrialization are also the core components that make up the Human Development Index. Our leaders know these things but are not interested.

Sorry for any typos.

Don’t forget security bros. Without security, no investor will feel like coming to invest or sell products
PoliticsRe: Oil Revenue - The Great Deceiver Of Nigerians by samdunzo: 4:54pm On Aug 30, 2020
OP, while I agree, I honestly think that the root of Nigeria’s issues lies in the system of government it uses. It encourages both laziness and corruption. I would restructure Nigeria to six regions, each with its own constitution and control of resources. Each region would keep 70% of its resources, and remit 30% back to the center. This structure would encourage accountability and competition. This in turn would benefit Nigeria as a whole.
PoliticsRe: 2023: Power Play Within PDP by samdunzo: 4:24pm On Aug 30, 2020
I think this is what might happen
APC deliberately lets a SWer contest
PDP gives the ticket to tambuwal/wike
PDP’s decision will upset SE PDP, but to get their “revenge” on the SW, they will vote for the tambuwal/wike combo
PDP will likely win in a landslide, but rumblings from the SE faction will arise.
APC, now led by someone other than tinubu, will capitalize on this and venture into the SE and MC/ Middle belt
In 2027, APC will then present a SE/MB combo and with massive support from the SW,
SE, MB and parts on the niger delta are core north, will likely win then.
Just my thoughts tho
