Peacecore: How u people rush into conclusion is laughable. Don't u know that politics is a game of interest. The northern leaders in APC has nothing to gain from Atiku, so they'll do everything possible to sabotage him. Mind u some of them are eyeing presidency in the nearest future. Which one will bring their hope in lesser period of time? After 16yrs or 8yrs?. Some are also eyeing some major post in the national assembly. If Atiku becomes president, then their goals are dashed already. Even the masses in the northern know that it's conversational to vote for a southerner for president after their own completes theirs. Or do think that they're happy with all these agitations going on in the south, knowing full well that this can upsurge it. Have u taught about the middle belt who detest core northern 's brutality, dominance and burn-to-rule mentality?
The whole thing is that Tinubu has better chance than Atiku. Kwankwaso will act the major spoiler in the north, Obi in the SE(my zone) and SS some part of SW like Lagos, and some some chunks of it in the NC. Tinubu will hold grip of SW n partially NE and NC. That’s not how the north works politically lolz. Northerners vote for their own irrespective of party, while southerners dey do party politics. Cpc / buhari faction of APC just needed ACN to get into power. Now that they have gotten the power, expect many northerners to return to PDP while the rest go to NNPP. Just watch, dem go shock u |

macjireh: D answer to d bolded is already explained in my write up....wen everyone is frustrated enough,,there will be a power shift to d next available candidate dat is "strong"....even a goat will be strong enough to win if a well frustrated people see him as a better option Both of us are right. Yes people were frustrated with PDP and Jonathan. However, structure also played a key role as buhari was finally able to gain votes outside of the north via ACN merger with CPC… it is true that people are generally frustrated with the two main parties. However, it is also true that in order to capitalize on that frustration, Obi and co need a structure that is nationwide. Social media support will not be enough. People wey no get media dey vote pass those wey get media Obi should go back to APGA with other Igbo 3rd force politicians like moghalu and others and build the party up in the southeast, just like tinubu did in the SW. from there, you venture into other parts of the country and begin to establish yourself there via other politicians. If Obi and APGA can do that I assure you there will be a genuine 3rd force in this country, just as things ought to be |

macjireh: How did Endsars protest hold without a leader and without a structure.... Elections are not about structure,,it's about d people venting out their frustrations against one candidate and favouring another... Buhari won 2015 bkos Nigeriana were already very frustrated with PDP and wanted anybody else available Why didn’t Buhari win all the other years he contested…. It wasn’t until the merger of other parties that he won election.. same way tinubu was able to expand his base out of SW… Obi and other Igbo politicians should do the same. Politics in Nigeria are based on tribe, inasmuch as we want to deny. PDP claims to be a national party but it’s strongest base has been in north.. APC claims to be national party but it’s strongest base in the west. Where is the equivalent for the east/ igbos? Look at the first and second republic and you will see the same pattern NPC - North AG- West NCNC - East Obi and other igbo politicians must do the same |
Politics › Re: Peter Obi Receives Certificate Of Return As Labour Party Presidential Candidate by samdunzo: 4:34pm On Jun 10, 2022 |
Obi is a good candidate… unfortunately I can’t see him winning due to lack to party structure. The following advice I would give is based on the assumption that atiku/ PDP go win….
Obi needs to go back to APGA along with other Igbo 3rd force politicians and begin to build that party up. Then form alliance with the south south, go to southwest and then make inroads to the north via NNPP and some NC and NE states.
Assuming atiku wins, the next time for a southern presidency is 2031. PDP go present SS candidate while APC go present SW candidate most likely… just my two cents tho…. |

We should go back to first republic style of government..... 6 regions(NE,NW,NC,SW,SE,Midwest/edo + Delta) with the current states becoming provinces. We have way too many LGAs that are nothing but money wasters at this point. With 54 provinces(36 current states + 18 more from 2014 confab report), we can proper decentralize things like policing and town planning to this level |

adioolayi: I think I will support more of going back to the regional system of governance. Either ways...This current system is not yielding any meaningful results. Nigeria as a Federation seems to be too big to handle by just the centre power. There is need for devolution of power. The early we start this reformation or restructuring, the better. God bless Nigeria True. Either one will work really, but I think given the diversity of the country, its best we use states. |

adioolayi: We are in big mess!!!
The truth is, subsidy is not sustainable anymore....The governors are clueless, no alternative source of money, except what they get from federation account, which largely depends of oil sales.
If FG continue to subsidize fuel, it means , no money in federation account to be shared with governors...and ultimately, NO SALARIES to State wprkforce.!!!
Big Wahala dey....If they now take the courage to remove subsidy, yes, there will be money to share in federation account and they will be able to pay salaries.....
Now the big one....If subsidy is removed, prices of petrol will skyrocket and other prices of common commodities , including transportation costs will INCREASE!!!
The workers salaries will remain the same, non government workers will have to pay through their nose with fixed income...Poverty level go increase...as a matter of fact, everything go scatter!!!
What is the solution Sincerely...I don't know!!! The solution is a drastic cut in governance... i suggest switching to parliamentary system as it is cheaper and will help manage our diversity. Full blown resource control is now a necessity, no more giving money to the center. Some states will likely have to merge, as they can no longer afford to run again. Land use act must be reformed or repealed totally. And lastly, the exclusive list needs to be replaced with one that gives states more power |

Lagos should be competing with the likes of NYC, London, and Tokyo. Alot is needed to be done in order to get to that level. Lagos is currently not even close to that. Save for a few areas, the city is mostly filled with overpacked slums. A proper city council should be set up to help the city get to the level it is capable of getting to |

tommy589: If china was ruled by a single dynasty for a thousand year, it did not stop rebellions or other dynasties from emerging. It was a strife torn nation until their last civil war that brought their form of democracy Somali and Libya are homogeneous, did it stop them from civil wars? I totally agree with you that we can do better under parliamentary system but we must do an house sweeping of 10-15 years before proceeding to a new political system. Minus the jail terms and firing squad, Rawlings is a good example Lol true. But you can still have that benevolent dictator under a parliamentary system. Lee Kwan Yew of Singapore comes to mind. In fact, I think African leaders would appreciate the fact that term limits arent really a thing with parliamentary systems. Germany's Merkel has been there for how long, no complaints |
Politics › Re: Say No To Military Coup Detat In Nigeria by samdunzo: 9:31pm On May 05, 2021 |
tommy589: Parliamentary system was getting out of control that was the allegation that led to the first coup. Corruption, killings and incarcerations of political opponents were rife. Political crimes of that time is now a child's play compared to what we have now.
Nigeria was established as a secular state, bearing in mind the ethnic and religious diversity. Now,we found ourselves as member of OIC and practice Sharia in some states. If we revert back to parliamentary system,is it possible to withdraw from OIC and also vote out Sharia and go back to penal code?
Russia,China,Indonesia,Turkey,Malaysia etc are multi ethnic nations, they are growing because of the local political system developed that suits their society, not copied
Let me remind you,all the developed western nations of today, except USA did not start with parliamentary system or democracy. Even when they started, the bulk of the power was in the palace, and in time power gradually shifts to the people.
I am not advocating for a benevolent dictator because I think it's the best. But we need someone in power for 10-15 years, that won't be partisan and will lead by examples. A strong man that will crush favouritism and other issues that undermine the growth of this country before true democracy can thrive. Fair point but the nations you mentioned are fairly homogenous. China, for instance, was ruled under a single dynasty for thousands of years. Nigeria, on the other hand, is a nation of nations, each with their own style of doing things. We are more similar to India than China. You cant expect to force the style of a Hausa man on a Yoruba/Igbo man and expect peace to reign. That is why I said we need a system that can bring good governance while balancing our diversity. Parliamentary systems do that best in my opinion |
Politics › Re: Say No To Military Coup Detat In Nigeria by samdunzo: 3:21am On May 05, 2021 |
tommy589: When I talk of strong man I meant Ataturk, Nasser etc. Buhari is a weak man, he hides is weakness by not talking.
We should have an home grown democracy not western adopted. I did not recommend benevolent dictatorship because I like it,but those developed nations that started same time with us created a version of democracy that keeps a party or leader at helms of affairs for over 20-30 years. Check India, malaysia, singapore, rwanda etc
This sit tight leadership did not become obvious because those countries were experiencing growth. When 7 points agenda becomes 1 point agenda within 2 years. No country develops when country policy get changed with change of leadership. I think we've had enough experience with strongmen to know that a "benevolent dictator" wont happen in Africa, especially Nigeria. Last time someone had that in mind, it led to a civil war and 33 years of military rule. What we need is a system that prevents strongmen from rising while managing our ethnoreligious diversity. Parliamentary systems are far more equipped for this task in my opinion, especially a parliamentary system with proportional representation as is seen in Europe. In fact, the African countries with the highest HDI use variants of parliamentary systems. Coincidence? I think not |

Osinbajo is compromised, same with all the political office holders. All of them are in great rush to steal from a dying country. Have you not been hearing that CBN now prints naira without commensurate back up to pay local debtors?
I don't know how it is going to be achievable, but what we need is a benevolent dictator. Someone to be in total control for 10-15 years. A leader that is not going to be partisan,A strong man with the milk of human kindness in him. What is needed is a switch to parliamentary system. Why would anyone be asking for a dictator after seeing how woefully a supposed "strongman" like buhari has failed. This is the problem is presidentialism as a whole. If it even has its flaws in America, how do you expect it to work in a country as diverse as Nigeria. Switch to parliamentary system with proportional representation |

Lagos would be decongested, which would allow officials to work on repairing/improving infrastructure. Furthermore, the midwest and southeast would receive significant economic activity |
