reactman: we saw how yoruba were brave during the protest and not coward when oba of lagos palace was ransack, we did not see OPC or amotekun or any yoruba youth who put on any resistance and you are lying to ur self that the average yoruba man is not a coward. you said aboki have never won any war in this country, what about the conquest of usman danfodio, atleast history have shown that an hausaman dominate and conquered a yorubaland and dispose their king and crown one of their own. The old oyo empire was dominated and the people chased out of ibadan by the nupe for 100 years, it was when the nupe left the old oyo empire that her people return back. Let talk about the protest in lagos, it was a southern thing and you people say the south is united more than ever before, why did you people shift goal post when the protest went sideways and you blame the igbo for your woes, and you are trying to convince your self that the yoruba are not coward, oh least i forget when OPC try to take ilorin back from the fulanis, what happen to them?, you can find that out for your self. yoruba are coward and betrayer, when the tip of the scale does not benefit them, they move to the next scale. I prefer an igboman over a yoruba man, AN AVERAGE igboman is not a coward and is brave, and will stand his/her ground for what he/she beleive in, even if the whole world is against them but same cannot be said about the yoruba man. OMO YORUBA THIS IS MY LAST REPONSE TO YOU....... History also shows that the same Yorubas dealt with them twice... one in Osogbo and another during Jalumi. The same Yorubas chased IBB out of the country back in 93 as well. So, just because we do not choose to fight doesn't mean we don't know how to get down...... |

obaaderemi: You are right. Ghana doesn't have a problem with ethnicity like we do in Nigeria and I think they are less corrupt. But something is still terribly wrong with their socioeconomic condition. Almost all African countries look the same when you visit or see pictures or videos of them. Almost all are poor. Some, like Kenya, are even starving. It's even a miracle Nigeria is not worse than it is- mostly due to the efforts of its citizens. Well, you know its very hard to build prosperous countries these days, especially in Africa. Other countries like the US and UK got to where they are with lots of inhumane practices like slavery and what not. Plus, with the conversation on climate change, African countries won't be able to industrialize like these countries did, with coal and other nonrenewables. Hopefully, we in Nigeria can step up our game though, because right now our position is shameful |

obaaderemi: Na wa o. Really, Ghana has a lot of opportunities to develop. They don't have the kind of problem we have with our northern part. And they don't have a very large population. They really should be doing very well, like a kind of Hong Kong. But you know, Africa is Africa. There seems to be something wrong with Africa. Look at South Africa too. In spite of all the resources and population, it's still backward. Maybe if the White minority had allowed the whole country to develop together, South Africa would be like Spain at least. Look at Nigeria too. Don't even talk about Kenya where people still look like stone age folks and starving. Ghana is doing good because they are much less diverse than we are.... most of the tribes in Ghana have history with each other that goes way back. On the other hand, you have some tribes in Nigeria that didn't even know of each other before the advent of colonialism. So, what is happening is that there is a clash of values. |

Princedapace: This guy here is one of the worse politicians in Nigeria.
Bro, if u are reading this, understand that Social Media is not the problem, okay.
Politicians failed to develop our educational system over the years. Our pry and secondary school systems are already dead. These two are extremely important for any country! As a result of poor educational systems, we have many illiterates roaming the streets and many half baked educated citizens roaming up and down!
Politicians refused to create an enabling environment for business to strive in Nigeria. Many people are jobless and hungry!
We have population growth that does not correspond with our development! This here is time bomb!
Our politicians use thugs to win elections and hire thugs to fight protesters! They are left abandoned to roam the street and are source of chaos at anytime!
Our politicians play extreme game of tribalism and nepotism! Tell me how Buhari is so comfortable to have almost all the security heads headed by one region, excluding another major ethnic group! Your president and politicians have used ethnic game to finish this country!
Politicians have refused to work on the constitution to reflect true federalism. U cant have diverse ethnic groups and run a unitary system of govt, it doesnt work. It cant end well.
Oga politician, should I list more and more for u? These are the real problems of Nigeria and not social media or the youths!
U cant shut people up when u all have refused to behave well as politicians.
High population + high rate of illiteracy + poverty = Atomic bomb
Make una sorry, if u guys dont fix the above listed issues within the next 10 years and Nigeria keeps producing kids at this rate, sorry, it will be worse, worse, worse, worse. In fact, a time will come when ur kids abroad as a politician will be hit hard by angry Nigerians! Una think u can use security to threaten the people!
U all have seen that the security cant handle simultaneous chaos. Not possible! Exactly what I've been saying.... there must be a serious renegotiation of the Nigerian project within the next 10 years or else...... |

The South depends on the North for farm roduce, Nigeria as a whole depends on Niger delta for oil... South does not depend on North for farming.... North simply has more farmers. birdman: I beg to disagree Baba - taking out the IBB/Abacha combo and moving to an OBJ democracy was not a small feat for that generation. Even driving past SSS HQ back then, you couldn't even look at the building, that was the level of fear. Back then even big men were not exempt - if you were non-military, anything can happen.
Today's youths have cell phones, which allowed them to communicate and we can see whats happening real time. By the time govt realized what was happening, it was too late to stop them. Back then, communication was via newspapers and TV, which govt could clamp down on, then use divide and conquer to tribalize everything.
Internet has also been huge - now youth can see what obtains in other countries. Even when you try to go to fellow African nations and you see how they treat your passport, you return home with even more anger. Back then, most of us didnt really know how far behind we were.
The biggest one that no one is talking about is the covid lockdown. It had the same effect in the states - restricting movement for that long allowed people time to stop being distracted and focus
If there were cell phones at the june 12 riots, things woulda been different, most likely Nigeria would not exist. This is what I've been thinking. People, especially those in developed countries, really take technology like phones for granted. In places like Nigeria, you have a whole generation that came of age in the tech boom era. Obviously, they see how their mates are living in civilized climes. It was only a matter of time before they started demanding for the same here |

What do we want?? its either we restructure to regionalism with the 6 geopolitical zones and FCT, or we disintegrate violently. Enough is enough. The ploy by the North to ignore restructuring has blown up in their faces, and its now obvious that they have lost control of most of the South, based on what's happening right now. Ifesinachi22: For Buhari's insensitivity: History might repeat itself:
As military head of state in the 80's buhari was overthrown by his military colleagues specifically because of his insensitivity/tribalism, sectionalism; refusing to listen or take advice, impunity, injustice and failed policies.
Fast forward to 2015; Buhari was repackaged and sold to nigerians as a changed democrat by Tinubu and co.
But as soon as Buhari came to power; insensitivity to nigeria's diversity; nepotism, impunity, constitutional violations, failed policies etc became hallmarks of his administration.
All those who advised him to toe a different part were routinely derided and abused by a president who refused to listen.
I don't want to be that guy, but if you study the events of 1966 and compare it to now, there are just too similar to ignore
The chickens are now coming back home to roost. If Buhari is removed as is seeming increasingly likely, history would only have repeated itself.
Buhari is the worst president in nigeria's history |

The six regions are the best template. Furthermore, if I may add, creating regions based on ethnic sentiments may actually lead us to be worse off. Although I am Yoruba, as long as their is greater autonomy for the Yorubas in Kwara and Kogi to do as they please in the Middle Belt region, then I am okay with them staying there. Creating ethnic regions in a country as divided tribally as Nigeria will only do us more harm than good. If you want an example, just look at Ethiopia. They did the same thing you proposed, and now they're on the edge of breaking up, as the Tigray region has vowed to not recognize the federal govt as the official govt. We don't need that here |

The northerners knows that the south will certainly be divided when they work along these lines.
The south can only have such power if they can speak with one voice. Nah... not this time around. The fulanis are actually the ones desperate here, because without the support of the south, their power is over. Additionally, as I've said multiple times, the ongoing protests have shown that real political power belongs to the South. So, Tinubu actually has the upper hand here. |

Nchenches: All figments of your imagination for BAT president - surreal. It’s easy said than done.
Anyhow, we are now after dismantling that imaginary “block vote” thing of the north created by proliferation of too many states and local constituencies in northern Nigeria. Land mass is never used as criterion for creation of new federal units like states and local government areas in a country formed by different regions.
Stop worshipping illegality. Nigeria’s 36 states and Abuja political structure is a huge fraud. Do the Math - if you have the head. South has much more political power than the North, just that up to now, Southerners did not really care about elections. But now, everybody eyes dey clear, and Southerners now are taking interest in politics. I predict that PDP will become a Pro- South/ middle belt party, while APC will become a Northern party. Anything can happen, but we all know who really has the power in this country |

Tinubu no be Jonathan. Bros.... Tinubu does not have to even do anything if we're being honest. In fact, if the North wants to play smart, all Tinubu needs to do is quietly dissociate himself from CPC faction and let them handle the monsters they made. Blackmiserable: There is no resources to manage bro. If you travel to Kaduna City, it is no different from Owerri or Abeokuta or Ilorin or Gusau. It is only some parts of Lagos and Port Harcout and Abuja that is a bit different. Most parts of Nigeria are basically stuck at the same level with the same levels of resources. If this one has only Orange, Garden egg and banana, then this one has only rice, beans and maize. Simply because no one can touch what is theirs. Before the advent of banditry, did you know about the gold in Zamfara and other NW states. If each regions has such in abundance, why must we wait for the FG before making use of them. The SE and Niger Delta (SS) regions are both blessed with natural gas resources, but cannot access them because of the current structure. The money that Lagos alone generates should be able to finance most projects in the area, such as the Lagos Calabar rail, the Lagos metro project, and the ongoing Lagos Ibadan rail. But, because of the current structure, Lagos cannot make the leap required to become a truly cosmopolitan city. So, by restructuring, you remove all of these restraints, and let everyone manage what he has, while paying a small amount (30%) back to the FG |

Nchenches: In political restructuring, if equal number of representatives are picked from the 36 States + Abuja to the conference, we are likely to get back to the political structure we already have, perhaps with tiny cosmetics changes.
Having equal number of representatives from the 3 regions that formed Nigeria at independence to the political restructuring conference should be the right thing to do. Exactly. However, we cant go back to the three region structure. So, each of the six geopolitical zones should have 60 reps, with the FCT getting 6 |

flokii: It is evident you don't know our history and genesis of our problems in this country.
Over and over, Pa Awo invited people like Azikiwe to work together but was betrayed times over by the Igbos who prefer Hausa/Fulani because they feel they can easily manipulate the Northerners which is false.
They called Yoruba betrayers, slaves etc. simply because we supported PMB but the same people see themselves as saints backing Atiku (a Fulani just like PMB) cos he chose their son Peter Obi as running mate. Are those the kind of people you want to trust? Seriously??
I see them as fellow country men quite alright but not people to forge any alliance with. So, because of events that happened over 40 years ago, you don't want to form an alliance with them? The mentality of us Africans is just something else. The point remains that our best shot at achieving restructuring lies with aligning with the Igbos and Niger Delta. If you want proof of what we can achieve together, just look at the events of the past week. The protests have clearly shown that true power does not lie with the North as many believe, it lies with the South. We hold the keys to this country, and if the North did not know before, it does now. So, it only makes sense for the two most educated and westerned tribes to unite and make this country what it ought to truly be- the hope of the black man. |
Politics › Re: Southern Unity Is A Must Before 2023 General Elections by samdunzo: 9:14pm On Oct 15, 2020 |
flokii: Don't ever say that again!
Which population don't we have? What is the total population of Igbos?? Yorubas are five times larger than Igbos in population. One Yoruba state (Oyo) is equivalent to the whole of 5 South East states combined. Now take those in the remaining 5 SW states of Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti and compare with them. We have large number of Yorubas lumped up with North in the Middle Belt who are clamouring to reunite with SW. Who know SE??
My dear friend, you better wise up and smell the coffee. The Igbos are only interested in Presidency which I doubt they will ever get in this generation. Should they by chance get it, they will place a ban/decree like death sentence for anyone that mentions restructuring again, simply because they are in power. It's then people like you will realize you've been played all along. Well, is it not better than being taken for a ride continuously by these unprogressive northerners? How many times do we have to played by them before we look for someone else to partner with politically? First it was Awo, then Abiola, and now its looking like Tinubu. Each of the three have seemed to be progressive ideas genuinely interested in moving this country forward, but each time they come close to doing so, they are usurped by those damn fulanis. See how the northerners are rubbishing APC, Tinubu's invention. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of the embarrassment. Let's at least give them a chance. Besides, the Igbos know how the other electorates feel about them. So, if they try any nonsense (which is unlikely), they would simply be removed. |

Let them face their biafra or referendum or whatever while we focus on what will benefit us in South West You seem not to understand. We yorubas cannot get restructuring on our own. We simply do not have the numbers. The other major political groups, Hausas and Fulanis, have already said that they are not interested in restructuring. Niger Delta and Middle Belt do not have the clout needed to pull strings politically, so the only other option for us is to form an alliance with the Igbos. From there, we get the middle belt and niger delta on our side, and boom... restructuring will happen in the blink of an eye. |
