djon78:As simple as that. Times are truly changing, and with the recent revelations coming out from the FG, I don't think the UK wants to be seen associating with a government that supports terrorists. Also, the fear of migrants, especially those from Africa and the middle east, is a very big concern for Europe, so the UK could be showing support for restructuring/secession as a way of potentially reducing those migrants. |
ensamy:Very soon. I was just thinking about it this morning. Once that happens, any hardship you think you're experiencing now will be raised to the power of 10. Ask the people of Sudan what they went through under al Bashir. And definitely, secession will take place |
tit:Yes. I remember reading about them some time ago. Which is why I just laugh when these same people speak of jihad. In this part of the world, tribe comes before anything else, including religion. If not, why didn't Dan Fodio replace the hausa kings with hausa emirs? What you see happening now is exactly what would happen in an Arewastan |
selemempe:I think this has to do with power changing hands politically. If you study the involvement of the brits around the world, you will see that they often put together strange bed fellows to milk money out of them. They did the same thing in the middle east for easy access to oil, and we all know how that played out. Now that oil is becoming irrelevant, they are looking for new partners. We'll see sha. I wont be surprised if nigeria is designated a terror sponsoring country soon |
if una can do welcome ceremony for Boko boys, why cant UK do for IPOB? what is good for the geese is good for the gander |
Omoodua007:True. I was just explaining what could hypothetically happen if the agitation was sincere. But if most Yoruba Muslims don't want it, and most Christians will be likely against it, then I guess not |
Omoodua007:Thats what I'm saying. If we achieve Oodua Republic or an autonomous SW, then we can consider it. And the consideration MUST include Christian, Muslim, and traditional leaders. However, under the current circumstances Nigeria is in, never would sharia see the light of day in SW |
Omoodua007:god forbid i be aboki lol |
sangresan:Calm down. Im not trying to insult anyone here. FYI, I'm actually a Christian myself. However, we need to be real here. If the agitation is sincere, we cant just wish it away. Sharia can be used classified as customary law and be used only to settle family and monetary disuptes in a potential regionalized SW/Oduduwa Republic |
well, if the agitation is sincere and not political, if religious leaders from all faiths in the SW are consulted and agree on civil sharia, why not. The key here though is civil sharia, meaning it will not be used for criminal law as is done in the North. Sharia should only be used to settle family and monetary disputes in the SW/ Oduduwa Republic if granted, and that's it. |
consequences of inflation |
My template for a regionalized Nigeria has recently included bendel/midwest. That way, all 3 regions can have access to sea. To settle minority agitations in the east, I would use proportional representation |
StaffofOrayan:Nah same Yoruba APC go defend the man... I just pity the South. |
Yoruba APC how far? See how these Northerners are willing to defend their own even when all evidence suggests this man has known links to terrorists, and is an ardent supporter of their mission. When Southerners were called out for much less, it was you Yoruba APC who would lead the criticisms of them. I still remember when you people defended the events at Lekki even when it was mostly Yorubas that were shot and killed. Next time, I hope you choose carefully before pitching your tent with others |
Yoruba APC how far? Sho ri aye nisi? When Kemi Adesoun was being dragged for the certificate scandal, notice how Northerners were at the forefront demanding her resignation, which eventually happened. Now that one of their one don enter wahala, see as they defend him vigorously. I hope you people learn and see these people for who they really are. |
just end the fricking program.... what a waste of time and money. |
decentralize the grid Private TCN and discos so competent hands can manage the sector See if the situation wont improve |
truthfully, while quota system in itself is not a bad idea(Even the USA has one), it has been bastardized by Northern politicians and use as a tool to benefit the kids of the elite to the detriment of the masses. I think what should be done is that "educationally disadvantaged" should be given an actual definition. For instance, we can call areas educationally disadvantaged if below 50% of the population doesn't have a WAEC certificate. Then, unity schools can preserve 15% slots for kids from these areas. Once the area has a population with more than 50% WAEC holders, the area can be removed from consideration. |
This can be easily fixed through these steps: Amend land use act to make it easier to purchase lands Private TCN and discos Remove exclusive rights of discos to the territories they serve Allow states use the power they generate Problem solved |
aBrokeRichDude:With autonomy, there is less incentive to loot funds for your local government. If you loot, you lose the means to build roads, police stations, schools, etc. The reason why looting is so common now is because of the belief that oil money will soon be given. No one works for their money, so it can be looted with ease. However, this is bound to change with the embrace of EVs, so soon people will have to work for funds. Once this happens, looting will no longer be feasible, cuz there wont be any sharing of funds to fall back on |
aBrokeRichDude:fiscal federalism, in the US and UK, a combo of property taxes and government funds from state and federal govts are used to fund local governments. We can do the same here. |
For local government administration, I think we should copy the US and UK model and merge LG's that make a city into one. Places like Lagos, Ibadan, Onitsha, Kano, PH, etc. should be governed by a mayor-council. For rural LGAs, I also think traditional rulers should have more of a say in governance, especially in the North where emirs/sultans still play an important role. Lastly, I believe that the NPF should be scrapped and replaced by Regional security outfits(eg Amotekun) and local/municipal police. I think these things would truly bring governance to the people and make local governance more effective |
Sad situation. Its looking like this restructuring we've been speaking of is coming by force |
Aconomist:Us blacks don't like to hear the truth about our problems |
Why dont you just amend the railway act so that states and private investors can build the lines for you? NRC should be a quasi- federal organization similar to Americas rail system, amtrak |
Aconomist:Yea. For African standards, Lagos is a decent city. However, for the standards I am comparing it to (NY, London, Tokyo) its a massive shithole. One would think that a city like that would be well planned, but as we speak, Lagos cant even build a metro system. Sad stuff |
funkybroyouknow:Due to the nature of local governments, This is why many of the cities have no planning and just spring up wherever and whenever. Imagine even a common mayor that these cities don't have. |
OneTemplate:Well said. While it remains to be seen the level of seriousness in the Oodua agitation, one thing I know for sure is that this union will definitely be renegotiated in the coming years. |
why not just sell it just another way to loot |
They have no one to blame but themselves.... when they were warned about the consequences of neglecting their masses, they decided not to listen. Now, their population, which should be their greatest strength, is now viewed as a burden in all parts of the country |
salbis:All of them should be privatized... FAAC should simply be a regulatory body. Privitization, if done right, could save the country |
As I have said before, the long term situation of the North doesn't look too bright. Barring a miracle, I wont be surprised if it becomes the new hotbed of terrorism in the coming years. My advice for people in the South and Middle Belt is to prepare, because these criminals will surely try to come down South once they finish the North |
The Nigeria govt only practice wat dey can manipulate to loot funds....
