Something needs to be done,, cuz its obvious we cant take care of all these pikin dem. I suggest the FG starts a sensitization campaign that tells people the dangers of giving birth to kids you cant cater for. "If you can't feed it, you don't need it." should be the lifestyle everybody lives by for the time being. And lastly, we need a real census. I suggest it be done all digitally so that rigging becomes harder to do

SmartPolician:
I think the ethnic groups are scared of mixing up; there is no exception. This explains why inter-tribal marriages remain uncommon. For me, I am more concerned about development. Nigerians need time to blend properly.

In truth, I don't see how restructuring the country along regions will work. Nigeria has to continue working with the as-is state system. However, reduce the power of the federal government, have state police, states should control their resources and pay federal tax, scrap the Senate and leave the House of Representatives, etc.

More importantly, the entire south should tell that old man in Aso Rock that we will boycott the 2023 elections if he doesn't take steps to implement these sweeping reforms as captured in the APC manifesto and recommended by the el-Rufia's restructuring committee.
State structure cannot work though, cause with restructuring there's no more free oil money(resource control). Thats why I'm an advocate of using the existing geo-political zones as federating units, each with its own constitution, police force, and resource control

This is by far the more realistic way to go about the agitation and is sure to get supporters from the SW, ND, MB, and even parts of the core North. It is by far more likely that Biafra, Oodua, and other nation-states can be actualized within a restructured Nigeria, just like you have Wales, England, etc. in the UK. Kudos to IPOB For this, and I hope other southerners support this brilliant idea
PoliticsRe: Why Have Nigerians Abandoned Marina District In Lagos? by samdunzo: 6:20pm On Dec 03, 2020
Honestly I want economic activities in the SW to spread to other cities.. abi na only Lagos we get? Ibadan and Abeokuta especially need to take full advantage of the overpopulation and attract companies to relocate there. this is why we need a restructured Nigeria desperately
PoliticsRe: Hundreds of Borno youths join militia group to defend their communities(photos) by samdunzo: 6:11pm On Dec 03, 2020
This should be made into an official regional police and emulated in all states/regions across the federation. Security is local, and I believe that the locals will be far more willing to cooperate with natives than with other ethnic nations (yoruba, igbo, etc.)

In a properly restructured nigeria, the SE would instantly become the manufacturing hub of West Africa. Cities like Aba and Owerri would be making weapons for countries like the US, India, and many more.

pansophist:
I wonder what people like Gowon, Obasanjo and other southern leaders that fought against the Igbos when they've seen this scam called Nigeria from the beginning, what were they thinking? That supporting evil elsewhere will bring justice to them? I laugh.

I can only imagine how these pawns feel when they see what Nigeria has become today, of which they were an instrument of it. A total laughing stock globally. Nigeria should split, its just the only way. Northern Nigeria are similar to the Malian and Chadians, and south more to the Ghanaians and Ivorian. And the south seamlessly compliments each other culturally and linguistically.

Like MLK once said, "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere". The Igbos were bastardized in the quest for justice, and now, every other ethnic group will suffer for this. The Nigerian story.
While I don't excuse what gowon did, remember that OBJ was probably fearful of what happened during the pogroms. I remember reading somewhere that he had to lay low because of fear that he would be killed by the northern masses, since he was a southern Christian. And from what I read, OBJ was responsible for ensuring that the army didn't massacre Biafrans when the war ended. Either way, Im sure he now regrets preventing Banjo and the Biafrans from entering the SW

Aconomist:
Lagos has a GDP per capita of over $5,000 according to the Financial Times of London. This number is only $1,000 less than South Africa, and it implies that Lagos could reach developed nation status ($10,000 per capita) in less than 10 years assuming an annual growth rate of 7.5% and a stable population. Separation from Nigeria would encourage massive foreign direct investment into Lagos that is currently being scared away by Fulani herdsmen, islamic terrorism and instability.

Take for example Facebook, which plans to open its Africa headquarters in Lagos in 2021. This investment will provide ultra-high paying software engineering jobs to Nigerian youths. But the Facebook deal is at risk because of "Northern governors" who want to introduce a so-called "social media bill" to destroy free speech. Fulani-Nigeria also imposes a forex burden on Lagos, making it harder for businesses to obtain the dollars they need to smoothly run operations.

Lagos would be much stronger with its own currency not being dragged down by excessive consumption and low productivity in the North. The dangote refinery alone would provide enough forex earnings to keep the Lagos currency strong and stable.

The lagos economy is strong enough to wean itself off of Federal Government allocations. The introduction of mobile money along with effective income tax and massive property tax to bring down land values would allow the Lagos government to raise tax collection up to 30% of GDP (the global standard) compared to 5% of GDP in Nigeria. This revenue would allow the Lagos government to invest in infrastructure and 24/7 electricity to allow the city to achieve that 7% annual GDP growth rate that would take it to first world status within our lifetimes.
Bro don't get me wrong, I like your plans, but how would the initial countries survive? Everytime I hear Biafra/Oduduwa/Niger Delta Republic, this is the first question that comes to mind. Everyone knows that sustaining countries isn't easy, and on top of that there would very likely be a massive influx of refugees from the Northern countries. I personally think the problem with Nigeria is a mismanagement of diversity, and that the solution lies in regional government, similar to what we had in the 60s

Apart from the fight largely been political and a huge source of income to some, the major underlining reason it has lingered is because of immense sabotage on the part of the military.

See, no plan for any tactical manoeuvre survives contact with the opponent. BH is always in the know. The military and intelligence officers don't know who/which Intel to trust. BH has infiltrated real deep into the fabrics of the north.

Going forward, Mercenaries will be a far better option. Though, those feeding fat from this protracted war will never allow this.
Exactly. Everyone should know that BH, which actually was quite peaceful when it started, was hijacked by northern politicians who wanted to stay relevant. Now, its coming back to bite them big time

besides the guy you quoted only has one purpose and one goal of convincing and manipulating people reading his comments that regionalism is a very bad idea... and he uses the 5.7 tax to GDP ratio scam to deceive his readers.

Nigeria's tax to GDP ratio is low because the population is fraudulently high, if Nigeria population is cut to something lower than 100 million then a lot of negative economic reports it has will become positive reports..
Yea, well it doesn't really matter if he takes it. the truth is, if NGA remains one within the next 30 years, a truthful conversation about the political structure will need to be held.

Making the 6 geo political zones the Federation units will not work. We need about 16 states. Zones like the NC and SS who have multiple ethnic groups might boil over.
Trust me, with the right set of laws and decrees, it will. If you're saying that some tribes won't be in the same region, remember that these are just political boundaries. the socio- cultural organizations will cover tribes regardless of the political borders within Nigeria

1.And the same waste won't happen under the regions, even the new six regions...

2.If we wanted to be like the UK..we would end up with anything from 100-250 federating units. Sure you want that?

3.The problem with revenue in Nigeria is that we have a low tax to gdp ratio, as I have pointed out uptheread. Because most states would rather wait for oil money rahter than charge taxes...because many Nigerians beleive that the revenue we earn from selling oil can cater for all of us.

4.Even with regions, the revenue issues would still be there.Plus the complaints of 'big tribe is dominating small tribes'..which is what led to state creation in the first place (and there are lots of applications pending for new states...if not that the Constitution makes it very hard to create more states)
Under a regional structure, there would be economies of scale that if realized, would fare better than even the best of states
Each region can have subunits(LGA) with greater degrees of autonomy, helping reduce any potential conflict in multiethnic regions (NE, MB, and ND)
Exactly why i believe it is better to address this problem now via the creation of regions and decentralization of certain sectors that will create jobs than wait for oil money to stop flowing.
As I said earlier, the issue of domination can be addressed through laws and decrees. It is likely that the state HOA's would combine to form one big regional HOA, so all groups would still be represented within that regional government

Bro, it beats me why the NA has not tried this out. Humans are naturally tribal, and our own in Nigeria is raised to the power of 10. Every single action people do is looked at through a tribal lens, so who is to say the residents of the NE and NW won't do the same? They are much more likely to confide in an Adamu or Mustapha than they are in a Onyeka or Babatunde. Nothing tribal about that, just facts
PoliticsRe: List Of 8 States That Landed In Financial Distress And Why by samdunzo: 6:44pm On Nov 30, 2020
PhiliptheArab:
The truth is, the regions were not better than the states either.

The problem with Nigeria is that we think that rich and prosperous nations genmerate revenue by selling raw materials and sharing the money

The harsh truth? It is by taxation that rich nations meet most of their needs...and some countries tax everything.

Regions won't work. We don't have the agricultural markets we had in the 1960's. We don't even have the type of farming system that can produce enough cash crops for export.Mining too is poorly regulated, plus we don't mine enough to sustain ourselves. Plus the old regions mainly consisted of big triobes dominating smaller ones...which is what the state structure largely avoids.

Modified...As an example of how tax pervasive some countires are...in the US, a guy won a car on a nationally teelvised TV show. For the privilege of collecting that car he paid taxes of $3000 . In Nigeria, he would have colelcted the car and gone home.
Im not saying go back to the old regions, we have 6 geopolitical zones and I believe those should be used as federating units. What i do not approve is the waste going on with states. Copying the US model was a big mistake. Nigeria is much more similar to the UK, a union of different nationalities(English, Welsh, Scots, and Irish) than it is with the US(A settler colony). Our political structure needs to show that reality. The earlier we do this, the better
PoliticsRe: Zabarmari Attack: Villagers Provide Information To Boko Haram - Enenche by samdunzo: 6:17pm On Nov 30, 2020
I think what the NA should try doing is putting indigenes of the NW and NE in these places. You can't possibly put a Nnamdi or Olumide there and expect results, since the locals will probably see it as an attempt by the South to kill Northerners. Additionally, security is local, and indigenes will probably know the locals and environment better.
PoliticsRe: List Of 8 States That Landed In Financial Distress And Why by samdunzo: 6:07pm On Nov 30, 2020
Its only a matter of time before states are merged into regions... I see no reason as to why we have 36 governors of largely unproductive states when the better option would be having 6 governors of potentially strong regions... One olodo was even openly saying that he only visits his state 3 times a month... what kind of nonsense is that?

The ways the northerners are invading Lagos is mind boggling. You will see thousands of them following cow trucks to and fro. I wish we have true visionaries who can transform the vacant plots in southern Nigeria to a modernized agricultural hub that will kill these over dependence on Northerns meat and food. So long we don’t look into this direction more trucks will keep bringing the cows and possibly many Bokoharam terrorists into Lagos

Our people should be very tactical in this Apga should ally with Apc.

They pacified southwest by giving them president through obasanjo even when it was obvious Alex ekweme deserved it, they pacified south south at the height of the Niger delta agitation by giving them vp and then president, but at the height of Biafra agitation instead not pacifying the southeast too like other regions were pacified they want to purnish the south east for agitating by not giving us a chance.

The southwest has no reason to talk about presidency or vice. People who should are north centralz north east and south east and to some extent southsouth.

We in the east are willing to allow any region I'm the north rule and maybe allow the southsouth bad vice to complete it's tenure as vp if In return they will allow us have the next tenure as president after the north finishes it's 16years
This should have been done long ago... I wonder why AGPA prefers to stand alone when they don't even control the entire SE like ACN did before the merger.
PoliticsRe: APC Leaders At War Over 2023 Presidency, Zoning by samdunzo: 5:20pm On Nov 29, 2020
This is why presidency should be rotated amongst the 6 regions... stuff like this is simply not productive and unnecessary for the nation right now. For ACN, sho ri aye? You should've known that the North would not be willing to let go of power so easily, especially when they feel that they are economically disadvantaged compared to the west and east. As it stands now, the president of this country in 2023 will either be an igbo or another northerner. Whoever it is depends on what the Yoruba APC faction does. if they continue to insist on Presidency, then all PDP need do is present a Northerner with an Easterner and its a wrap.
