PoliticsRe: Southern Unity Is A Must Before 2023 General Elections by samdunzo: 8:31pm On Oct 15, 2020

Who told you the Igbos want restructuring?
Who destroyed the regional system in the first place if I may ask you.

Let me educate you incase you don't know. Nnamdi Azikiwe knew from the onset that his SE region is the poorest in the entire South and second pooerest in the entire country, reason why he and his kinsmen worked tirelessly to see regional system destroyed so they can control all the resources at the centre. The Hausa/Fulani saw this long ago and killed their agenda off completely, took over control which they are enjoying till date.

South West has been docile for too long and it as it stands now, we call for restructuring. We don't want any alliance or draw back from any shi.tty region. STRICTLY RESTRUCTURING!!
Look, I know all about Azikiwe and Ironsi. However, that was then, and this is now. Both Yorubas and Igbos know that without serious restructuring, this country will collapse. Hausas and Fulanis don't want, so why not work with Igbos to get what we both desire for this country? Holding grudges won't do us any favor.

There is nothing like Southern unity.. what we want is restructuring.

We don't want any attache by force unity with parasites and poverty capital of the South. Make everybody dey their lane, we no want 'akosibero' dem in our midst.
How else do you expect us to get restructuring when the other major ethnic group has already shown they don't want none of it..... drop pride for once and lets get to work with the igbos abeg

Unfortunately the president does not listens because he is deaf or dead to the impending doom his govt is driving the nation to with his govt obstinacy to good advice & national disenchantment.
The funny thing is, the NE and NW probably have the most to gain from a potential restructuring. After oil money runs out, where do you think the FG will look to next for income? Their minerals of course! Instead of them to think ahead, they are stuck in the present. Shame

States were created to weaken regions and u are advocating for states. You and I know that its so obvious that it wont work
No, I simply put the suggestion because you seem to want states. I already told you that up to me, the only forms of govt would be federal, regional, and local

All these can be done as individual states
Having it done on a regional scale will be far more beneficial to the Nigerian project. Besides, within those regions, you are free to make whatever states you want, they just wont be recognized by the FG. The three levels of government would be federal, regional, and local

Let the present 36 states exist instead of merging them to regions as a lot of confusion will be resulting from this union.

Let each states manage its own resources and pay taxes to the federal government no matter what they generate.

If Zamfara state want to survive on selling chewing stick they should go ahead.

While states seems like a good idea, regions is better. Many states are barely getting by, and removing the little revenues they get from oil money will simply make them collapse. Furthermore, not all states have the natural resources needed to survive. However, with the 6 regions as federating units, every region will have the necessary resources to survive. Of course though, the best regions will be the ones that are able to utilize the human brain- the most important resource of them all

We can't use that. 6 geopolitical zones can't work every state is free to form mutual alliance with any state from any zone for their mutual economic prosperity. Just as Lagos did by partnering with kebbi on rice farming.

Merging states into regions will lead to more tribalism
Yes we can. Keep in mind that the geopolitical zones were formed to do exactly what you said- form mutual alliances with states that have cultural similarities. Additionally, people will still trade with each other in my proposed form of restructuring, and on an even larger scale too. For instance, if the middle belt and NW regions go into large scale farming, they will obviously need good roads to move their goods. The SW region, which is endowed with bitumen, can trade between the two regions in exchange for food. I suggest you read about Canada's political structure, which is very similar to what I'm laying out. As for tribalism, local government areas will still exist, and have even more autonomy. This will definitely cool the polity, and reduce tribalism in multi- ethnic zones, such as the Middle Belt and Niger Delta regions.

Am happy u understand my point. Nigeria presently is not ready for restructuring.

How many states in Nigeria can function without federal allocations.

Imagine with federal allocations they owe salaries for months do u know what will happen to those states when the federal allocations stop coming?
Which is why we will use the 6 current geopolitical zones as the federating units. This way, there are economies of scale, and every region can focus on becoming a hub for one trade or another. For example, the SE can use the natural gas deposits it is endowed with, along with the industrious spirit of the Igbos, to become the manufacturing hub of the country. Likewise, the SW, with access to the sea and major cities, along with a booming tech industry, can become the commercial hub of the country, and even West Africa at large. Even region has what it takes to survive. Only those who are lazy are afraid

I beg to differ...if d restructuring is properly done, there won't be marginalization... wat I will posit is that d representation at d federal level should be collapsed into d regional structure.. dat time a Governor will be like d President,,while d governor office now will be d office of d deputies,,so one one regional Governor will have several deputies from each state,,and there would house of rep and house of Assembly structure in each region to create more representation... at d federal level there would be just one legislative chamber(d senate),,,so how would there be marginalization? dat system will just too fluid
If I may add, in a properly restructured Nigeria, the current LGA's will become like mini states making up the proposed regions... which will certainly put all talks of potential marginalization to an end

Anything less than this is not acceptable.

Western region withiout Lagos doesn't make a single sense.
Exactly, Lagos will be the economic capital of the SW region while Ibadan should be our political capital. Other cities that are currently capitals can fully focus on serving as industrial/ commercial centers.
PoliticsRe: Restructuring: Northern Leaders Root For 12-State Structure by samdunzo: 3:59pm On Oct 13, 2020
Restructuring should be a 6 region, 1 FCT structure. Parliamentary system with each region sending 60 reps each, while FCT sends 6. For a party to win, you must win 2/3 of sits in all 6 regions and in the FCT. So, you must win 244 seats in total to form a majority. I do support total resource control though, with 30% going back to maintain the center. Each region should have its own police force, with branches in every LGA (community policing). Good start from the north though, nice to see them open to restructuring finally.

You’re right. If you study early American history, you’ll actually see a lot of similarities between it and Nigeria. However, one fundamental difference is that the Americans agreed to be together, while we did not.
