iReport:
And then? what did they achieve with their leadership?. Did both men you mentioned above take the govt from Northerners?. Igbos were ruling Nigeria before the Biafran war so both of them didn't really do anything like Obasanjo. Obasanjo went into the lions den and took leadersip away from the north twice and that's whats up. Obasanjo fought corruption and changed the way business is run in Abuja and that's what you guys should focus on and not what he did with his di.ck.
Abeg, are you really a Nigerian or from Niger republichuh which corruption did he fight? He was just witch hunting political opponents.
see watch is happening to Ribadu and El rufai now.
Oby sold many govt houses and land to his cronies and you have to impetus to say he fought corruption?
Bribery and corruption became ripe in his tenure. Nepa became worse. Security deteriorated. Riots escalated. two communities were wiped out.
But like every other ex Nigerian leader, Nigeria only remembers their Faults and not their successes and the reason is very simple:
THEIR FAULTS ALWAYS OUT WEIGH THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS grin

Trivial,
since this is your first post, i'll be quite frank with you.
1. You just registered for this topic

2. you're a staff of intercontinental

3. you want us to widen our battle ground

Now, i've got a suggestion for you.
Please, if you've got complaints about another bank, start a new thread and we'll take it up if there're facts to back it up.
Personnally, i'm interested in this because every member of my family has accounts in IBPLC. i've had mine with them when they were Equity bank and i've operated my account since 1997. I never had any reason to complain publicly because i'm a businessman and charges like 50naira per withdrawal on an ATM doesnt bother me. All banks do that, even abroad cos i use an ATM here.

So, if you want to start another thread that you want Nigerians to contribute to, come out with facts and we'll all contribute.
cheers grin

PoliticsRe: Protest In London Today Over Obasanjo's Lecture by samparian(m): 4:16pm On Mar 20, 2009
The protesters arrived the LSE with anti-Obasanjo slogans and placards accusing him of heightening the tension in Nigeria's Deep South, introducing anti-people economic reforms, haunting down political foes, corrupt deals, and wanting to manipulate the Constitution to stand for a third term.

They arrived the venue early enough to deny Obasanjo entry into the lecture hall. He was later smuggled in through the Students' Union cafeteria.

"The NLF considers it a public duty to stop people like Obasanjo representing Africa anywhere, because he represents the same failed face of Africa. We cannot afford different versions of Mobutu, Idi Amin, Bokassa, Conteh, Marcias Nguema, and their ilk representing us," NLF Co-ordinator, Kayode Ogundamisi, said in a statement.

"Obasanjo has the traits of the worst tyrants in Africa, but he seems to have the international community under his spell. They overlook his indiscretions and scandalous crimes, and shower him with credibility when he should be cooling his heels in jail or hiding away in one remote corner of the world, far, far from decent people! London Lecture: Former President Olusegun Obasanjo pelted with eggs, tomatoes
By Rafiu Ajakaye Senior Reporter, Lagos

On Wednesday, African students kept their word in London, where they besieged the London School of Economics (LSE), and warned the world that former President Olusegun Obasanjo represents the ugly face of Africa and does not merit the honour of having him say anything on any subject on the continent.

"He was held hostage for hours, with protesters throwing eggs and raw tomatoes at him. He could not immediately leave the venue even after the lecture," a source recounted from London.

Scores of protesters were injured as they engaged the police in a bid to enter the LSE building.

And Obasanjo was booed in the hall as he spoke on the unrest in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where he mediates on behalf of the United Nations (UN) Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon.

One thing I love about the average Nigerian is his/her opinion on matters of national interest.

I have read all these posts and I am amazed at the issues discussed here.

I would rather like to make the following points

1. OBJ is not the problem of Nigeria. He has never been.

2. There was a time that Abacha was the devil and we all wanted him DEAD. He died and yet we are still where we are

3. Mark my words, in about 2 years from now, the blame will shift from OBJ to Ya'Adua. (Baba Go slow is still having his honeymoon like Obama of USA)

4. The Problem of Nigeria is tied to the entire electoral process. if we do things right the first time, all these problems will be gone. (Bush was a result of a flawed process and see what happened to America in the last four years)

5. OBJ committed some blunders and deserves some credit (by Merit or luck)

I can say with authourity that any person who is being tribalistic on this forum about this issue, has never travelled abroad.

My question is how did that guy clear which ever airport he took off from? 87kg is a lot and knowing the kind of hassles one has to go through at Murtala airport when travelling, cos these customs guys always open all my bags before i wiegh in excess luggage. They sniff at everything and sometimes try to embarrass you.
As far as China is concerned, That young man is DEAD MEAT.
As far as China and the world is concerned, the Guy is NIGERIAN, not igbo or yoruba, or Ijaw, or hausa. Even if he's from Sudan they dont care. he has a Nigerian passport and thats what matters
PoliticsRe: Protest In London Today Over Obasanjo's Lecture by samparian(m): 1:02pm On Mar 19, 2009
Unlike Nigeria where we practice DEMON CRAZY, UK has real human rights and people have the right to protest anything they deem fit.
Just 2 days ago, residents of a city in Canada seriously protested the arrival of Bush to give a speech there. His first speech as expresident.
A lot of people have reasons to be angry with OBj.
Its on record that Nigeria registered a Mass exodus to foriegn countries during his 8 year tenure than in the past 20 years put together. why?
RomanceRe: Why Did You End Your Last Relationship? by samparian(m): 1:27am On Mar 19, 2009
I ended my relationship with her cause we were not meant to be.
We even got engaged on her birthday. I threw her a lavish party which stunned her and her family. Then things started getting bad for me financially after our engagement.
Nothing i did ever worked out. I became broke and later heard she was cheating on me with her old boyfriend. I saw his many text messages on her phone and confronted her. she asked for forgiveness and i forgave her.
men, i really loved her.
I finally broke off our engaement when my prayer team told me she was the cause of my financial troubles and if i went on to marry her, bad things will happen to my family.
i initially dieagreed with them, till i became really broke that i didnt have 100k to call my own.
imagine this, , barely 4 months after i broke up with her, i became a millionaire.
I'm still searching for my real wife now. grin

I'm in China so i have first hand information of how he died.
They were shooting the movie "game of Death" and after some scences, Bruce complained he had a headache and was given some pain killer tablets by the movie director. he took the pills and lay down to rest. when they came to call him for his next scene, he was dead.
His death annivesary is celebrated every year here in China and Hong kong. They have a big statue of him near the harbour in Hong Kong. its a tourist attraction.
The house he used to live in Hong kong will be transformed into a musuem later this year for fans to visit.
He is Hong KOng's most Prominent son.

INTERCONTINENTAL BANK is not in anyway going to crumble. For the issue of our network downtime lastweek was as a result of a little system failure we experienced from our head hub. This issue has been resolved. It just happened that it came at a wrong time when the rumour of banks collapsing was eminent due to the global meltdown. Minimum balance for savings account still remains at the default amount of 1,000. Please dont close or advice people wrongly to close their accounts. Also do not forget some of our competitors are engaged in these rumours just to de-market INTERCONTINENTAL BANK.
CBN has confirmed it to the entire public the status of the bank. Just to reaffirm our commitment to all our stakeholders
INTERCONTINENTAL BANK IS VERY HEALTHY.

I'm glad they've resolved that one.
Now, since you guys have joined us on this forum, it's MANDATORY that you look into other complains about the bank. It's true that every establishment is out to make money but YOU MUST MAKE YOUR CUSTOMERS TRUELY HAPPY, not just print it on your calenders.

Good for you. Next, you look at all the other issues raised here and work on them.

Thats the best way to go about it and not to send staff in here to exchange insults with customers. That would make matters worse.

Dont underestimate the far-reaching consequencies of the posts on this forum. So like so many other companies, use this as an avenue to feel the pulse of your customers and change in the areas that are wanting.
I'm glad IBPLC have come back to their senses. Nairaland is a big forum which nigerians use to air their feelings and thoughts about many things. I've learned a lot from this forum(still learning) smiley

Like i said before, i dey fear o.
this gloabal reccession is affecting everyone, that is why its called, "GLOBAL RECCESSION"
Soludo and our banks should stop decieving us and themselves that it wont affect Nigeria. The dollar has risen sharply against the naira and crude price has fallen to its lowest in history, and yet the Mumus we have in government are still thieving and claiming that all is well.
All is not well o.
I live abroad and i know how many banks and companies that are in the RED, many are being bailed out by their governments. Over here, the banks tell you the truth about them, so you know where you stand, but it Naija, "the truth in this matter will NOT set them free. That is why everyone is lying through their teeth".
I dont know if Intercontinetal has liquidity problem(i doubt it, cos my kid brother made a large withdrawal yesterday to pay for his container), what i know is that no bank in Naija will tell the truth about its situation.
IBPLC made a huge mistake by asking for 10k minimum balance, A bank which claims HAPPY CUSTOMER HAPPY BANK should know better.
NOW THEY HAVE A LOT OF PISSED OF CUSTOMERS. Interesting
BusinessRe: Intercontinental Bank Has Become Useless by samparian(m): 4:32pm On Mar 16, 2009
People are making withdrawals from Intercontinental, not because of the 10k minimum balance which was a FOOLISH MISTAKE on their part, but as a result of rumours such as this one started here on Nairaland by an UNSATISFIED customer. angry
I still have funds in the bank, but that doesnt mean i'm not scared. Everything thing we do in life is a risk. Like i said before, which bank is safehuh?
England has almost bought over all their banks, bailing them from crashing, same goes for US, where Obama has lavished billions of dollars of the coporate market.
Finally, i've noticed that most people complaining only recommend one bank, GTB. Whyhuh
Na them sponsor this rumourhuh? grin
i dey fear naija marketing strategies o

BusinessRe: Intercontinental Bank Has Become Useless by samparian(m): 10:50am On Mar 15, 2009
My people, i dont know much about banking but i know that when a bank cannot honor its customers' cheques,, then there's a problem. I had such a problem with Hallmark bank when i issued a

cheque to a client and he couldnt cash it in their Kano branch. They told him the cheque could only be cashed in Maiduguri branch, where i was. I had to go personally to the Maiduguri branch

manager who tried to tell me everything was okay. I quickly pulled all my funds and returned to Intercontinental which i had left because of their refusal to give me loans/over draft.

I've been banking with Equity now Intercontinental and they've handled my affairs well.

I'm an old member of nairaland and i'll honestly say that No matter their reason(intercontinental), it was a big mistake to increase the minimum balance to 10k. angry

Ofcourse it will cause panick!!!!!!!

Everybank in the world is shaking cause of the recession!!

China, UK, USA(where it all began), Japan, Australia, you name it. the share prices of their banks are also dropping and many of their banks are still alive right now because of government bail out

money and total buy outs!

Nigeria is a country where the slightest change in bank policy can cause serious panick. we've had our fair share of failed banks. we're all on edge.

I'll tell you all right now that NO BANK IN THE WORLD is IMMUNNE right now.

I've got over a million bucks in Intercontinental bank and i'm not running to any where. No bank is immune. so, lets stop bad mouthing

where we might be running to may be worse tongue

I just pray all our banks survive the global recession
PoliticsRe: CAN Wants Nigerians To Carry Arms (Religious Crisis) by samparian(m): 2:35am On Mar 08, 2009
My people, OYB in particular, i was among those clamouring for legalizing fire arms but i've had reason to change my mind.
I'm an Igbo man and by GOD's GRACE i survived the mayhem in maiduguri in 2006.
it was based on that experience that i was in support of fire arms. I've not been to naija since 2007 and i've quickly forgotten how irrational and insensitive we nigerians can get over trivial issues.
an incident occurred here just 2 days ago between 2 nigerians and i immediately thought of the fire arm "mouth battle' we're having on Nairaland.
a nigerian made call from a call center belonging to another nigerian and began walking out of the door without paying. when the owner, another nigerian called him back and asked him to pay, the stupid naija man began making noise. saying he was being embarrassed because of 2yuen(50 naira).
it took the intervention of some naija big boys who were there for the guy to shut up and pay the money. Imagine arming some one like that with a glock or AK47. lipsrsealed
please, no matter what the jihadist do to us christians in the north, legalising fire arms will be a big mistake.
I think CAN should push for a full military presence in all the northern states, because its always when the military are in the streets, that the jihadists flee.
The military should have permenent check points in strategic arears and shoot any rioters on sight.
Obasanjo did it when jihadists took over Kano.

BAC:
Yes brother, I pity those businessmen in Nigeria that survive on the exchange rate for business transactions. And the people that do not have a way out but to survive on imported goods. Inflation is the order of the day. Soludo and friends knows they do not have power to stop this. All they can do is talk empty talks.
Speaking on behalf of Nigerian businessmen,i'd say "WE ARE IN TROUBLE"
only God can save us. there are losts of containers at various ports awaiting clearing and most of the owners cant get money to clear it because they depended on the banks for money which is not forth coming.
well, i never believed in borrowing from banks, so i'm safe in that angle, but the truth is that the rise in dollar or rather the fall of the naira will cause a scale of infaltion never seen before unless something is done about it.
many importers have made orders from factories abroad but cant get their supplies because of the naira crash.
i personnally have goods in a chinese factory and they called yesterday that my goods are ready.
My people, i cant pay 175 naira for a dollar. considering the balance i'll pay the factory,, the difference is huge!!!!!!!!!!!
i couldnt sleep last night.
