Some Igbos who got titles from tribes or some other regions are banned as well? Are u saiyng that traditional rulers should be saying who bears traditional title in other states that are not within their enclaves? There is a big difference between a chief and an Eze/Igwe. its like saying an Otumba is the Oba, or a mere Alhaji is Sultan/Emir.
The traditional rulers council comprises of Emirs, Obas, Igwes, Ezes, Obis and other traditional rulers who are recognised at all levels of Governments in Nigeria and Internationally.
They represent various towns and villages.

If the guys in lagos call themselves chief, it doesnt mean jack shit.
The problem is that there are over 20 Eze Ndigbos is Lagos alone. Who are they representing and who installed them?
I know of a lazy asshole in Lagos who squandered his brother's money and drove around Lagos in Convoy calling himself eze Ndigbo is the area he lived in.
When his brother came back to Nigeria, the bubble burst. It was a big family problem that when it was settled the asshole was left with only a Honda Legend Coupe which he later sold to manage his life.
He no longer answers eze Ndigbo. His praise singers have since abandoned him.
There are many people in Lagos who claim to represent Ndigbo but they dont even know where the nearest Igbo town hall is located. Imagine.

I was in Ghana a couple of years back with a Nigerian movie star and he voiced out his disappointment about the infrastructure in Nigeria after i drove him around Accra. That was his first visit to an African country. we spent two weeks on location in Pukuase, a village off Accra and there was nothing like black out or Lights off as Ghanaians call it.
I didnt blame him, i was stunned when i visited Ghana for the first time.

Why would someone in another state tell a governor how to constitutionally run his/her state. U dont get it that freedom of association or expression does not fall under state powers, its in the exclusive list of FG. So long as these T/Chiefs are not demanding to be recognised as traditional rulers from Lagos Govt, they are free go about their bleeping biz. 1. to get clearance from Traditional rulers council of Nigeria

3. present certificates from Their respective state governments
4. Clearance from EFCC and SSS
5. Pay 1 Million naira annually to Lagos State for each title

I may understand what you feel. Nigeria is a failed state and there are many Nigerians who hope and pray that God will someday hear our prayers and give us leaders who will have our interests at heart.

We provide our own security(as much as we can)

We have ingeniusely provided various forms of transportation

what is the Governments doing

Its not about allowing "emir of anambra", but believe me, Hausa's respect their royals very well and you can never see an almajiri or alhaji, no matter how rich, parade himself as Emir or sultan of Aba or even Lagos.

Most of these guys are just looking for identification with government officials.
Like i said earlier, We have town unions nin various states and each town union has a chairman.
Then we also have the state Igbo unions who have Leaders who were voted in on merits, not because of wealth. These are men whose tenure in office expire every 3 or 4 years.

Sometime last year, the Igbo traditional rulers council(REAL EZEs and IGWEs) met with their northern counterparts and asked them to bann the EZE NDIGBO title holders in their domain.
These charlatans have been causing trouble in various areas they reside in.
Most of them dont belong to any igbo town union, and many of them dont even go to their home towns.
these clowns collect money from various state governors and politicians and confer FAKE "titles" on them, promising them the votes of Igbos who they dont even know.
I've witnessed such an event where 5 "Eze nidgbos" confered cheiftancy titles on 2 current governors.
No single true Eze or Igwe was there.
As an Igbo man of Royal ancestry, a Prince by Birth, I know that the government has placed restrictions on conferment of titles by traditional rulers.
[b]1. Before you become an Eze or Igwe in your Village, your full data MUST be presented to SSS, EFCC, and other government agencies to verify that you're not a criminal of any sort.
2. When you're cleared, your state government will then give you a certificate and certify you as a traditional ruler of your community.
3. Then you can perform your first OFALA and join the traditional rulers council of your state and Nigeria.
4. Before you, the EZE, can dash out cheiftancy titles, the recipients names MUST also be presented to EFCC, SSS, etc for processing and approval or denial.
5. Any ex convict, criminal, or persons of questionable characters are not eligible for any title.

I commend Fashola and i urge other governors to follow his steps.
Any Igbo man who feels the need to lead his people in a foriegn land should join his town or state union and contest for the presidency. That is where we'll know who the people truelly want at the helms of affairs. Not some fools parading in different corners of Lagos.
Ask them who gave them that title, where does his native town union have their meetings in Lagos, dont be suprised, the fools might not know.[/b]

Lack of papers no reason to mistreat Nigerians abroad, says Maduekwe

FOREIGN Affairs Minister, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, yesterday, called for an immediate halt to the criminalization of Nigerians living in foreign countries.


According to him, even those who have not secured the permit to live and work in such countries should be accorded official recognition since such Nigerians contribute to the growth of their economies.

He also explained what the rest of the world expects from Nigeria in the current world order, stressing that Nigeria is expected to play the role of "political locomotive" on the African continent as well as act as a "hammer" and not just the "anvil."

Maduekwe, who delivered the 2009 Millennium Good Governance Public Lecture titled, 'Our Challenge, Our capacity, Nigeria and the New World Order' at the University of Nigeria, Nsuka, said he was sick and tired of the continued criminalization of Nigerians in foreign countries including those who are hard working and doing genuine businesses in their host countries.

"Even as a lawyer, I am opposed to people breaking the law. But please don't criminalize Nigerians even if they left Nigeria without adequate papers. They are working hard in your economy and adding value it, regularize their papers," said the Foreign Affairs Minister.

According to him, the over 17 million Nigerians in Diaspora have contributed their quota to the growth of their resident countries and so should not be treated as criminals.

"If a Nigerian is working hard in London, Sweden, United States or any other country but doesn't have papers, give him his papers. After all, that is a typical case of using diplomacy. Most Nigerians are honest and hard-working people. I am sick and tired of this criminalization of my countrymen because this is one of the most beautiful countries in the world," he said.

The minister recalled that when the colonialists came to Nigeria and African countries some 300 or 400 years ago "they did not come with papers (resident permit) and their coming here became our first encounter with the other form of globalization, so you can't eat your cake and have it, and then our hard work created your economy over there."

On global expectations from Nigeria, Maduekwe said apart from the fulfillment of the promise it holds as a strong prosperous nation with clear consolidation in market democracy, human rights, rule of law and as a source of stability in the region, "we are expected to build on a well-established record of a military/strategic reach that has defined us as responsible, responsive global players in peacekeeping, whether in Congo 50 years ago, or much later in Liberia and Sierra Leone, and right now in Darfur."

Maduekwe, who endowed a chair in Public Diplomacy and Globalization at UNN, said the move was part of his contributions to the growth of his alma mater, adding that the endowment for which $100,000 had been provided by his friends and N7 million by Zenith Bank, would serve as a research centre for issues relating to globalization.
