Please I need your help.

A family is planning to apply for a school in January and there seems to be a new law on dependants from January 2024. The said law is going to restrict student from bringing dependants.

My question is, will the law apply if they get the admission on time and apply for visa by November/December?

I want to believe the law will not be applied until January 2024 or is it for all admission to January 2024 session?

Please your prompt response will be appreciated.

Me: well there are many courses for options and it include innovation, strategy, leadership, entrepreneurship and so on... (imagine I don't know this, how unsettling the question was)
Officer: what do you do in Nigeria?
Me: I work for a consulting firm (I mentioned the name of my company and I think he was impressed)
Officer: what will you be doing here?
Me: I will join another consulting firm here (at this point, I was just wondering where this is leading to, though I was pretty confident because I was kind of prepared)
Officer: how long is your wife's study?
Me: 18 months
Officer: so after 18 months what will you guys be doing?
Me: we will be going back to Nigeria (for my mind, I say this guy, go back abi , okay ooo)
Officer: where is the letter you were given from UKVI?
Me: (this got me a bit shaking because I cannot remember where the letter was, I know I packed it but cannot remember where it was. I searched my bag and my laptop bag, only for it to dawn on me that the letter was in the bag I checked in, I say mogbe, I begin to pray in my mind that this will not lead to anything because its already a lot of questions)
Now the officer waited and looked at me, he noticed I could not bring the letter out.
Me: so i told him the letter is in my bag that I checked in
Officer: do you have any money with you?
Me: (I have prepared for this, so I was very confident, so by the time I brought out a bundle of 20 pounds notes, that was the end of the whole question)
Officer: alright, welcome to UK.

He stamped my passport and gave it back to me. Then I started to breathe normally again.

The lesson here is to be prepared and make sure you have money with you. I think the cash in pounds saved me from further questions and issues. I have heard they can depot if you do not have any cash with you.

Means you can't work in some restricted job(s) - sport, civil n public service being some of them.
You can't work as a medical Dr or Dentist too. When you go for your BRP, you can find out which others there are if you wish

It took 7 working days, I am still amazed.
Document submitted: TB test, Photo Album, Marriage certificate, Landed Property to show our names, Telex Copy of school fees paid, Expenses on my spouse account, Statement of account for my spouse and myself, Vignette for my spouse and BRP of my spouse.

But please who can explain what was written on my visa. It says "Restricted Work, No Sport person and no public funds.

Please what does Restricted Work means ooo.

Lmao, I honestly laugh at and pity you. We are definitely not on the same pedestal because you are a hungry student without savings, no career plan who just arrived in the UK. My issue is where you sit down and start writing rubbish about students with families saying they should not bring their kids on a study visa blah blah, and then when I search your post I just realized you arrive UK in January and you are also a struggling student. Keep your in-depth useless advice for newbies like yourself. If you truly want to help ppl pay instablog and warn ppl before they start the study visa path, not when you can se they have already invested and made a choice on this path, then rather than offering valuable or helpful advice, you start bashing their choices when you know at this point there’s no turning back for them. Also go home yourself, seeing as according to you it’s not a viable relocation route. You can’t come here typing rubbish to people when you don’t know their backgrounds or their net worth etc based off of a few internet posts. May God's name be praised. I picked up my passport today at VI TLS.

Applied to 4 schools and got offers from them: Coventry, London Metropolitan University (offers in 2 courses), Middlesex University and Glasgow Caledonian University. Paid deposit to Middlesex as I got their offer 3 days after applying (October 7). I did 3 pre-CAS interviews and I was proud of my performance but was denied CAS because of my study gap (7 years). Applied for refund of 4500 pounds deposit (got refunded just last week since December).

Had to find a way of paying 3000 deposit for London Metropolitan University and applied for CAS in December. Got my CAS, January 6. No interviews. They are probably the fastest with CAS once you get your documents ready. You can get CAS in 3 days once they verified your payment.

Collection mail February 7th
Passport collection February 8th
Documents submitted- Degree Certificate, Transcript, IELTS, POF, CAS, TB Certificate, Introduction letter, no NSF despite 7 years of study gap.

Went through a whole lot during this period. Already gave up hope as my school gave me 14th February as latest day for me to be the UK and they already advised me to defer till September but the good Lord came through for me.

What kept me going during it all was someone's testimony on Part 7 when she said her bible verse for prayer was Ephesians 3 vs 20. Since that day in early January, I wake up every night to pray and use the verse as point of contact with God. He answered my prayers.

I'll be in London this week as God lives and I am not sure I'll be able to hold my tears at Heathrow when I get to hug my eldest brother for the first time since 2002 when he left Nigeria. Man Sponsored everything.

I am crying as I'm typing this. I've gone through a lot.

May the good Lord grant favour to each and everyone of you still waiting on him as regards visa application, he will surely do it. You only need to believe.

I had 7 other offers from various schools for MBA, HRM and Project Management but I knew it had to be Social work, so I decided to wait it out...

Special thanks to @Babababy, he once sent a link as a guide for visa applications and I saved it immediately. That guide later became a life saver as I didn't get stranded or have to ask for help while applying for my visa. Thanks to this thread as well, I have gotten so much information just from being here.

@efosakelly you need to have faith and pray about it. Look at my experience: they told me decision has not been made on January 21 which was day 14 of my application when I sent paid mail. I followed up on day 16 of my application to escalate. They told me that day that it will take 15 working days for me to contact them again, that they will respond within that period. I wanted to faint. Only for the application to move to VAC 2 days later. When I opened the passport the passport was carrying issue date of January 21. That was the day I was told decision has not been made. Imagine that. Your passport could be somewhere with them with the Visa. Sometimes it only takes someone to search it out, my guess though.

Relax, you sill hear from them soon if you did not get NSF mail. mine was DEC 21, today they still told me a decision has not been made. got NSF mail JAN 12, I escalated January 20. Jan 24 got mail from Sheffield team, see transcript below.

Then I followed up on Day 15 (25th of January), they said it will be escalated I should wait for another 15 working days - this info just broke the camels back... At that point it was as if "whatever happens now just take it" but it was very hurtful...

All of a sudden this morning, I did not even check early. I sluggishly checked around 10.30am.

Application transferred to VAC = 27th January
I did not wait I just went there, they asked me to wait that they have not received a mail.

At 1.30pm, Application received by VAC = 27th January

Collection mail at the same time.

This is serious ooo... Jan 4th Biometric, VI TLS. Sent a paid mail and got this terrible response below;

"Thank you for your query from the information you have provided, we have escalated your case to the relevant department on 25-01-2022 and you should be contacted within 15 working days. Please wait until the 15 working days have passed before contacting the service again as we are unable to do anything further before this time.

We strongly recommend that you do not buy a non-refundable, non-flexible ticket to the UK, until your visa application has been approved and you have received your documents."

The letter was obviously doctored and that is not nice at all.
