@ thiefof hearts grin
I would not say you should not expect fidelity, you just have to look hard and deep.
My dad used to take I and my brothers on his business trips when we were on hols. Most others would be taking their girlfriends or mistresses .
I said it before, people who are faithful must have a strong drive to do so,otherwise in today's world not only in Nigeria it is hard to do so.
Romance / Re: Caught My Husband With His Mistress In Our Room by samsilo(m): 1:00am On May 25, 2007
The guy I would say does not have respect for his wife to do what he did ,cheating is bad ,but in your home shocked shocked.
What she does is not up to what any one here says but how she feels about the guy and their marriage.
All have been trying to do is get people to have a reality check.
It is better to know what obtains in reality compared to the ideal situation.
Romance / Re: Caught My Husband With His Mistress In Our Room by samsilo(m): 10:49pm On May 24, 2007
@Michelin89and Thiefof hearts, please do not blow a gasket.
In my earlier post I made a comment about my friends and Thief of hearts asked why they are still my friends(poeple I grew up with).Michelin said the men in Nigeria who cheat should be ashamed of themselves.

My dears they will not be!
Among their friends and peers they will be seen as champions or guys who run things. In all male dominated societies like Nigeria, the middle east etc.It is hard to accept for you women ,but men see themselves as providers ,head of the house, for some the wife is even something you acquire like houses.
Not like in the west where women have more clout than men in the law and in society.

A married female friend was telling me how she went job hunting and all the bosses keep on asking for sex(married men),I mean bankers, corporations etc. My friend asked his wife to stop searching for a job for the same reason(being propositioned ,sex for employment,All this by married men.
Ask female students what married lecturers are putting them through in our Universities.

Do not be mistaken in thinking I am defending infidelity,I am just saying do not live in a fools paradise.
To cut along story short pray you marry a God fearing man,and as for Michelin I know Italian men are not much better(as you seem to live there)

Only a man with high morals usually as a truly religious person in Nigeria will not be sleeping around.
If he is rich, a politician or holds a powerful position then you can forget expecting to be his only one
Business / Re: Who Is Currently The Richest Man In Nigeria? by samsilo(m): 10:52am On May 24, 2007
@ I Man.The  2 sources I noted as verifiable.
  1. Unless you are one of those who believes only fantasy and rumoursonly,or do not keep track of developments in your environment.
you would know That Aliko Dangote was a multimillionaire at 19yrs(1978-79) courtesy of his cement business started with a few million naira(as at then N1=$1) loaned to him by his uncle Aminu Dantata.
A few years back directors of Union Bank went to visit Dantata at home in Kano and it was on the bank Calender, clearly stating he was their biggest customer and depositor in the north.
Ever heard of Dantata group or Dantata and Sowoe construction company?

The guy has become richer than Dantata because of his connection to governments over the years, getting  favourable conditions for his business. This happens all over the world but maybe not as freely as Nigeria.

2.I also said the South Atlantic petroluem owned by T Y Danjuma was paid $4 billion Last year by CNOOC as verified by no other than the Chinese president when he came to Nigeria last year.
Nigerians do not like reading otherwise you would be better informed.
Try and read more.
Romance / Re: Caught My Husband With His Mistress In Our Room by samsilo(m): 1:52am On May 24, 2007
@thiefofhearts ,it does not make it okay but sadly its true.Almost all my married friends (in their 30s) are knocking boots with other babes like its going out of fashion.
The sad part is catching the guy in your own home.Ladies, please if you think you will divorce a guy in Nigeria for cheating,do not get married.
You will be married more times than Elizabeth Taylor otherwise.
Romance / Re: My Girlfriend Cheated On Me 6 Times Last Year by samsilo(m): 1:34am On May 24, 2007
@Wa_do_mi again.Brief as ever, glad to see you got rid of that I hate myself stuff.

@poster,the idea of faithfulness has to be learnt by most humans(its not always inborn). If due to culture or whatever reason a person does not see the need to be faithful like this girl you are talking about,I would suggest some things.
Pray hard.
Try to show her with good reasons, religious , social etc why its bad.
Forget about it and get your groove on and don't get too emotionally involved ,as in love, marriage etc.
Business / Re: Who Is Currently The Richest Man In Nigeria? by samsilo(m): 12:58am On May 24, 2007
Dangote group daily turnover,excess of 200million Naira-Verifiable.
South Atlantic petroluem-TY Danjuma ,paid $4billion 2006 by chinese national oil company for off shore wells-verifiable
Mike Otedola,Zennon oil
Mike Adenuga(?front man)
Loads more, and others mentioned already
But for straight out and clear source of income it has to be Aliko Dangote(no looters considered)
TV/Movies / Re: Cartoons: Not For Kids Alone! by samsilo(m): 12:03am On May 24, 2007
Cartoons are great. They have a feel good quality which a lot of movies and programmes on telly do not have.
I used to have the same issue of "are you not too old for this stuff when I was in secondary school but not any more.

My favourites-Lion King
Mulan
Eldorado
Tom and jerry
Simpsons(would watch this before almost anything else on telly)
Family guy
South Park
Road Runner
The Pink Panther
Business / Re: Top 10 Richest Nigerians by samsilo(m): 2:27am On May 23, 2007
How many people I wonder, know that South Atlantic oil company owned by T Y Danjuma was last year paid $4billion by the Chinese national oil company for majority stake in its deep off shore fields.
The Chinese president acknowledged this fact when he visited Nigeria so this one is not a rumour.
I also wonder why people like Forbes Magazine feel here is no black African dollar billionaire.I can understand them excluding looters like IBB and the Abacha family but what of a case like this one
Romance / Re: Most Stupid Or Romantic Thing You've Done For Love? by samsilo(m): 2:02am On May 23, 2007
@Luxoire,thanks Sis. Anger has never been and will never be part of my life, that was her and would be totally unfair to put it on some one else.Only thing was it made me very wary of girls especially pretty ones. For like 6 months after this whenever I saw a pretty girl my mind would be like"there goes another bundle of problems".
Politics / Re: El-rufai: Igbos Own 73% Of Abuja Land by samsilo(m): 5:05pm On May 22, 2007
Mallam El Rufai stated some clear facts and some people are talking tribalism, arrogance and what have you.
Go and spend some time in Abuja and you will see all he said is true.
Igbos are aggressive business people and their ownership of land in Abuja is wise investment. That is probably the highest yielding property market in Nigeria.
El rufai made this statement because he was accused of being anti Igbo,I know for one at least 80-90% of the petrol stations in Abuja are owned by Igbos and a lot of them were built without in Illegal places and were demolished.
This spread of investments by many Nigerians not only Igbos is one of the reasons I always tell those who talk about the break up of Nigeria,it can not happen,at least not while oil still flows.
Forget about Mend. The Nigerian rich class which comprises all tribes will crush any such nonsense group when shove turns to push.
Romance / Re: Most Stupid Or Romantic Thing You've Done For Love? by samsilo(m): 1:09pm On May 22, 2007
I think the most stupid thing I ever did was when I broke up with an ex off mine some years ago.
This girl was so arrogant and uncultured(believed she was some sort of beauty queen) at a point I almost broke up with her , I even heard heard she was shagging a friend to her best friend's boyfriend.
Out of mumu love and pity I still stayed with her, pity because she came from a broken home and things were very hard for her dad.I was almost supporting this girl totally in terms of finance while we were dating.
When she had problems with her friends in school, they asked her to leave their shared room so she had to look for a place to stay.
She moved into my flat and I promised her I would help her pay for accommodation.Soon after my eyes started to clear and I knew she did not love me and even though she was pretty ,I can't stand ill mannered girls ,so I decided to break up with her.We did not quarrel or have any beef,I just started to ignore her,no more sex or any physical contact till she got the message.
She started bugging me about the money I promised her before and since I made the promise in good faith knowing her family background I gave her the money.Guys could you believe this girl left ,took the money and went shopping for clothes, mobile phone and what not.
She then went telling her friends ,who reported to me that she had conned me out of so much money.
I just let it ride and counted it as experience, because we were no longer dating and I still kept my word I had become a fool in her eyes

Romance / Re: Romance by samsilo(m): 1:19am On May 20, 2007
Funny you posted this because I just thought about this today.
There is this idea of a revenge f**k,guys and more commonly women when they get cheated on just want to go out and "do something " to get over it.At that period they are at their most vulnerable and some playaz are masters when it comes to knowing the signs. cheesy
My friend had been chasing a girl for months while she was in school ,then on Valentines day her boyfriend came from Lagos to see her.She later found out the guy had another babe in the same school because he kept dissapearing till very late that evening and his phone was unavailable .She went outand got the info and was really mad.
My guy just told me "bros its pay day because he knew he would get a revenge f**k. Being a player ,he did not blast the guys behavior so as no to put her on guard.Instead he went all romantic talking about how she was too good and he wished the guy knew what a treasure she was.
Next day he slept with her though the relationship did not even last a month.
The key here is to be aware of yourself as no one will be looking out for you.
There are too many vulture out there waiting for dead meat wink
Romance / Re: Discovered She Is Hiv Positive by samsilo(m): 12:54am On May 20, 2007
@Cute-ass I have to join your growing no. of fans for your well thought out response to issues on this forum grin.
I wasa not expressing my personal preference as far as the confidentiality bit is concerned just the legal aspect of it.
like i said Naija is different from other places and the best option is to tell the guy fast fast so he can confront her with the info.
HIV is wreaking havoc in peoples lives every day and its sad to know the number of people joking with their lives in the name of love or trusting someone.
When I was in Naija some months ago I was surprised the way some guys were talking about girls getting pregnant for them. All they were concerned about was aborting the pregnancy, not the risk they were taking having unprotected sex. cry cry
Romance / Re: Discovered She Is Hiv Positive by samsilo(m): 7:22pm On May 19, 2007
@Poster. This is a very delicate matter.I know in Nigeria some people do not take patient confidentiality seriously,if it was here in UK there would be hell to pay if that information got out without her consent. At least some one would loose their job or a court case with damages paid to the girl
Since we are talking Nigeria ,slightly different case but how do you explain your knowledge.I once saw a girl after her positive HIV result flirting with some guys and I felt sad because obviously she was over her period of depression and seemed to be back in "action".I could not say anything and just walked away.
I think the best person to broach this matter would be your friend.Even though she is close to you its a bit different because he asked her out or is going out with her and may have slept with her.
He would have a moral stand to Talk about her HIV status with her and could withhold his source.
Tell him first and let him take it from there.
Do not despair however ,even if he slept with her without protection he may be lucky. If HIV transmission was 100%, half of the guys in Nigeria would be HIV positive by now.
Dating And Meet-up Zone / Re: Nairalanders In The UK: Let's Meetup! by samsilo(m): 7:05pm On May 19, 2007
Hey guys it would be nice to meet up sometime.I must say in the short time I have spent in this country I have noticed we Nigerians can sabi fear ourselves and like to hide.I hang out with a couple of Ghanains and I don't see them fronting for each other the way we do.
I think we need to chill out and be more relaxed with each other.I hope to be at the naija carnival if i am in London then.
Cheers guys.
Romance / Re: Desperate Measure: Did This Guy Go Too Far? by samsilo(m): 6:35pm On May 19, 2007
@2dye4,my guy nothing dey happen.
there is no need to worry about any consequence of this lie because your friend only has to tell the true story to scatter such a rumour.Which hospital was he hospitalised that nobody knew of
I can feel for him because 5 years ago something happened to me which I was considering posting on this site.
It was the same thing ,this girl and her family were pressuring me and even offered to foot the cost of the wedding.
I never proposed to her but she just got this idea into her head she wanted to marry me(na by force?).
One day she travelled to see me and I told her plainly I had taken enough of that crap, she started threatening me, how she would mess up my life and I told her if she wanted to kill me she was very welcome ,as I would prefer to be dead than marry her.
At that point when she saw I meant what I said ,she started crying making a scene on my street.
I never knew up till that day I had so much courage so I don't blame your friend.
The thought of having that girl hanging around me drove fear into me which turned into courage ,Your friend just chose an easier way out of a similar situation
Family / Re: Single Parenthood - Trendy Or Trashy ? by samsilo(m): 8:25pm On May 18, 2007
@Ikemefa, you seemed not to understand my earlier post.
Even in the villages in Nigeria ,a girl having a child out marriage is not seen as horribly as it used to be.
There are men who are single parents also.
What I am totally against is what I see a lot of people doing,i.e "ooohhh that baby is so cute honey lets have one."
They go ahead and have a baby without thinking that its a long term and stressful venture . A lot of the time the stress splits the parents up.
Whether planned or by accident ,the single parent must realise that they are responsible for an innocent life and you stand a greater chance than a couple of messing with a child's head.
Mothers tend to be too nice and protective of their kids, this is a big problem especially when they have a boy(in the teenage years control dey hardoo!).
For the male single parents ,they are often not as sensitive as the mothers would have been and may easily loose touch with the child or children.
There is not enough space here to discuss this topic.
Bottom line, whether you are a male or female single parent.acknowledge that you have a handicap and be a responsible parent
Family / Re: Single Parenthood - Trendy Or Trashy ? by samsilo(m): 11:16pm On May 17, 2007
Ikemefa has listed the common causes for single parenthood.A lot is not by choice but it is ndeed a growing trend.
People see it as trendy especially in the west.A couple of weeks ago a celebrity fell out with her ex husband because he said having kids was too much stress,he said he thought at the time it was like getting a pet dog.
This is the attitude of some very selfish people, they want to have a baby forgetting that for 15yrs or more you have to pick up after it and provide for the child. They just love all the cuddly cute baby stuff. When the child grows into a human with demands in terms of patience , understanding and finance they get pissed off.
I would like to beg all single parents to spare their kids from endless "Aunties" and "Uncles".
You have a right to a love life but please spare a thought for that innocent child whose brain you are messing with.
I saw something very sad last weekend.I went to help out this friend of mine who is a single mother, when she was walking me to the door he started complaining(6yr old boy) ."Mummy don,t leave me alone again, you are going to thats uncles car and after that you'll leave me alone here".
I made a very sharp exit out of embarrassment.
I have a cousin whose daughter has had more uncles to last 3 lifetimes.
Do what you feel you have to but please protect your child from mental trauma
