You have to call a command from java directly to the operating system. Since java is multi platform, this code might not work for some os.

Using java.lang exec method:

Runtime.getRuntime().exec("rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0";
System.exit(0);


this should work on windows32.

My candid advice is: just keep reading. Dont go to any classes, dont watch tv again, rarely play games. FORGET EVERY OTHER THINGS OF THIS LIFE. Dump ya girlfriend (or beg her to dump u) cos no man can serve 2 masters, get a laptop or pc, a good internet connection, and at least 8 hrs of steady electricity. Lock yourself in your room allday, everyday.

Download all books u see about java online. READ THEM ALL (all the authors have different perspective of the language so u have to know them all). You will read some garbage along the line but that is part of the sacrifice.

The truth is you will lose a lot in life maybe even lose some or all of your friends in the process but hey ITS JAVA we are talking about here(nothing else matters).

people will call u names like nerd, geek, blah blah blah. Dont be discouraged. Set ur eyes on the final reward.

About the techy stuff, the crawlers are all written in python and a bit of perl(for regex and string manipulation). The ui is codeigniter(php) while the main search is written in c++ alone everything was done from the ground up.

i later used a library from google code when i hit a brickwall as to figuring out the most important part of a webpage. It is hosted here code.google.com/p/boilerpipe/. it doesnt hit 100% sha. the whole jobler thing is still a work in progress.

Currently, the spiders threads run on 2 vps while the search engine itself is hosted on a dedicated box. I currently use almost 70% of my salary to pay for them
