The Minister of State for Power, Hajiya Zainab Kuchi, yesterday told South African investors that evil spirit were behind Nigeria’s darkness preventing the country from taking her pride of place in the comity of Nations. While addressing members of the African National Congress (ANC), the South African Ruling Party, which led a team of investors to her office in Abuja, the minister said, “We must resolve to jointly exorcise the evil spirit behind this darkness and allow this nation take its pride of peace in the comity of Nations.” The minister in a statement by the Deputy Director/Head of Press of the ministry, Greyne Anosike, said, “Nigeria needs help, any nation that loves Nigeria must collaborate with it now to resolve her energy crisis…We are getting irritatingly slow.” She told the delegation that Nigeria has a structured response to her power challenges with a Roadmap it is implementing with care and diligence and asked them to study the power sector roadmap and come up with their specific area of interest, assuring that there were a lot of gaps to be filed in the sector. The Minister said that work had reached various stages of completion in rehabilitating some of the moribund power stations littering the landscape pointing out that, the revival of the abandoned power projects was critical in lifting the sector as billions of funds had been sunk into them. “It would amount to lavish diseconomy to embark on new project and abandon the old ones in which huge tax payers resources had been sunk,” she said, and added that she was confident that the present Administration is determined to make a difference in this sector and break the jinx. http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/11/28/there-evil-spirit-behind-darkness-nigeria-minister-power-tells-south-african-investors/ |

AN EVIL people smuggler who brainwashed children using black magic before forcing them into prostitution and raping them has been jailed for 20 years. Cruel Osezua Osolase, 42, is also HIV positive and raped one of the young girls without wearing protection, a court heard. The former security guard was found guilty of seven counts of trafficking young girls, rape and sexual activity with a child. He had shipped the teenage girls from Nigeria to Britain where he groomed them to be sold for sex in Italy and Spain. The court heard he cast spells using ”juju” magic over his three Nigerian victims - now aged 15, 17 and 18 - to stop them running away. Osolase, who worked at a trendy London fashion shop, found his victims begging on the streets of Nigeria and promised to take them to the UK to get an education. He then used West African rituals, known as juju magic, to trick the teenagers into believing they would die if they tried to run away. He was jailed for 20 years at Canterbury Crown Court which heard he took advantage of vulnerable girls whose stories were ”tinged with tragedy”. One victim is so traumatised she says despite the conviction she fears Osolase would still kill her. Judge Adele Williams told him: “You were dealing in exploitation and misery and degradation. “You have been convicted on clear and compelling evidence of trafficking two girls in and out of the UK. “Once they arrived in the UK the reality was explained to them that they were going to have to work as prostitutes - being told they had to repay their debts for travel. “They were petrified that if they spoke out they would be harmed and killed. “You are a very, very dishonest man, arrogant and manipulative, devoid of conscience, and devoid of any compassion for your victims. “You were condemning them for a life as no more than sex slaves where their lives would have been miserable. Osolase, of Northfleet, Kent, was convicted of a total of five counts of trafficking for sexual purposes, one count of rape, and one count of sexual activity with a child. He was acquitted of three further three charges of rape, one of trafficking and one of assault causing actual bodily harm charge, having denied all the offences. Osolase - who has a lover with a child in Britain and a wife in Germany - will also be recommended for deportation at the end of his sentence. Detectives fear he may be responsible for up to 25 more victims and CPS lawyers are now preparing a case to seize his financial assets.Back to top of page http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4615990/people-smuggler-osezua-osolase-jailed-for-20-years.html#ixzz2AkZRcG42 |

Lagos State Government said no fewer than 619 people were either killed or seriously injured in commercial motorcycle accidents across the state in the last two years. The government explained that the figure was from the state Traffic Management Authority’s record. A statement by the Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Media, Mr. Hakeem Bello, added that records from the Planning and Research Department of LASTMA showed that out of the number, 107 people died while 512 sustained serious injuries as a result of the accidents. It said those who died in the two years were 71 males and 36 females. The statement read in part, “Details of the accidents between January 2011 and October 2012 further revealed that a total of 442 commercial motorcycles, popularly called okada, were involved in accidents across the state during the period out of which 271 occurred in 2011 while 171 occurred in 2012. “Also according to the records, in 2011 alone, 47 were killed and 98 others sustained serious injuries while from January 2012 to date 63 people have been killed while 59 others sustained serious injuries.” The government added that police records showed that a total of 513 fatal accidents recorded in the state in the last two years were caused by okada operators. According to the record, out of this number 305 happened between January and December 2011 while 208 of the fatal accidents happened between January and June 2012. “The record also revealed that of the 30 armed robbery incidents recorded in the state between the months of July and September this year, 22 of them involved the use of commercial motorcycles. Details, according to the record, show that of eight robberies that occurred in July, seven involved the use of okada while okada was also used in 10 out of 14 robberies in September and in five out of eight robberies in August,” the statement said. It added that the state government promulgated the Lagos Road Traffic Law to address some of the security challenges by restricting operators of commercial motorcycles to certain areas in the metropolis among other reasons. The statement said government only restricted okada operations to some areas to regulate traffic and reduce avoidable accidents and loss of life on roads.” http://www.punchng.com/news/okada-accidents-killed-107-in-two-years-lasg/
