The Minister of Sports and Chairman, National Sports Commission, Bolaji Abdullahi, has revealed that President Goodluck Jonathan is targeting five gold medals from Rio 2016 Olympics despite the abysmal failure of Team Nigeria at London 2012 Olympics. Nigeria finished the London Games as one the worst teams, failing to win any medal but Abdullahi said on Channels Television on Wednesday that Jonathan wants an early preparation for the next Games and expects no fewer than five golds. “Mr. President believes if we start to work now we can win five gold medals in Rio in 2016. If we start to work towards that target, we may or may not meet it, but we must begin now to work towards it and believe it is possible,” Abdullahi said. “It seems we’re under pressure now; everybody is angry and outraged. But we must resist the temptation for reflex action. We can’t just start doing things because we want people to see that we’re responding to stimuli. That’ll be wrong and won’t be sustainable. “What we need to do is to be very deliberate and conscious about what we need to do. There’s not going to be an easy solution, there’s not going to be a quick fix. What we’re talking about (emerged) from many years of decay and collapse. Whatever we do now, we must begin to show result in two years time. That is why it is very good for us that the Commonwealth Games will be coming up in 2014 and we can use that to re-launch for the 2016 Games. “We shouldn’t forget that football is very critical in Nigeria. We have the Nations Cup coming up in January in South Africa in 2013 and the World Cup in 2014. All these will provide the opportunity for us to begin to rebuild. If we begin today to identify children and talent that can compete well with the right age and exposure, I think we can get them ready for Brazil . “In Olympic term four years are nothing; we’re actually thinking of an eight-year plan. Some of the countries that did very well in London have already started preparing. We have to start now. We’re considering giving priority to sports that will give us the opportunity to excel and apportion our resources along those lines in short and medium term measures. “We have to go back to the system that allows us to discover talents; the system that allows us to nurture them and allows us to give them the right exposure.” Abdullahi said he planned to reconnect the National Sports Commission to the state governments and make the various sports federation more effective in terms of funding sports and discovering talents at the grass roots. http://www.punchng.com/sports/jonathan-wants-five-gold-medals-from-rio-olympics-abdullahi/ |

Islamic cleric Sheik Ahmad Abubakar Gumi yesterday asserted that all the good things in Nigeria were being done by Muslims, contrary to what he described as a conspiracy to present Islam in bad light. Sheik Gumi, who is based in Saudi Arabia, made the claim as he continued his series of Ramadan sermons at the Sultan Bello Mosque in Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna. A source who is attending the daily Ramadan sermons gave SaharaReporters details of the sheik’s latest talk. The source quoted the cleric, whose father was the late Sheik Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, as stating, “All the good things in Nigeria are done by Muslims.” Mr. Gumi reportedly claimed that General Danbazzau was removed as Chief of Army Staff because he is a Muslim, adding that the ex-general’s efforts to build a military hospital in Kaduna have since been abandoned. The cleric stated that the hospital would have served all Nigerians well. The Islamic cleric also drew his audience’s attention that when Nigeria desperately needed a czar to take on the scourge of corruption, the country turned to Nuhu Ribadu, a Muslim. He reminded the audience that Mr. Ribadu even arrested his boss, ex-Inspector General of Police Tafa Balogun. Sheik Gumi praised Central Bank Governor Sanusi Lamido for clearing the rubbish at the apex bank. In addition, he praised the work done by Nasir El-Rufai when he served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja. The cleric also drew attention to the late Abubakar Rimi’s tenure as a minister. He credited Mr. Rimi with firing a director in the ministry who used “juju” to terrorize people, adding that only a Muslim could do that. Mr. Gumi also lauded the late Head of State, General Murtala Muhammed, for his foresight in moving Nigeria’s capital to Abuja, adding that the city’s central location has worked for the benefit of all Nigerians. After reinforcing that Muslims were behind the good deeds he enumerated, Sheik Gumi wondered why there were attempts today to portray Muslims as people trying to stir trouble. He asserted that the country was already deep in problems, adding that there should be justice in order to secure everlasting peace. Mr. Gumi argued that justice demanded that soldiers be sent to southern Kaduna, Jos and other areas where he alleged that Muslims have no protection. He stated that there are still refugees from southern Kaduna and that security agents had done nothing concrete to protect them from attacks. He urged Muslims to work towards change, beginning with the registration of all mosques. “Let us register all our Mosques, collect 100 naira each,” he said. The cleric added, “This talk is not about Izala but just saving us in this world before we go before God. If we start registration of mosques, ignore those that will refuse the registration, let’s forge ahead and gather money and save our people from this challenges we are facing now.” http://saharareporters.com/news-page/sheik-gumi-good-things-nigeria-are-done-muslims

Billyonaire: I had a sad experience with GTB, I wanted to transfer just 8m from my GTB savings to First Bank, they told me its impossible to transfer from Savings, even when other banks do it. I had to call a friend that has a checking acct with them and have them transfer funds from my savings to the guys checking in GTB, and I asked that I need to wire the funds to first bank and they said their RGTS system is down. They offered that I raise a draft payable to First Bank, I raised a draft of 8m and they charged 45,000 for 8m draft, on getting to First Bank, it was not honored, I went back to GTB for them to buy back the draft. On getting there, they charged me another 45,000 to buy back the draft. I spent 90,000 for a useless policy. I swear never to use GTB. First Bank raised 27m draft for me, for just 43,000. GTB is a thieving bank. Beware of GTB.laptop number 2. Millions from GEJ payment.I hail u. |

Agbofa Yao Hateka was in the Sogakope court on 12th and 13th July charged with incest. He has so far made two appearances in the Sogakope Circuit Court for having nine children with his daughter, four of whom were dead. According to the prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Atsor, the case was reported to the Dabala Police by the chief of Ashagborkope, Togbui Sekpetey II, who is also a tax collector. The complainant told the police on June 7th 2012 that the accused was married to his biological daughter, Baby Hateka, with whom he had nine kids. Yao Hateka allegedly impregnated Baby when she was 11 years old and subsequently had eight other children with her. Out of the lot, there were now five kids aged 14, 12, 3, 2 and a month-and-a-half-old. During her interrogation however, Baby Hateka told the police she had eight children with her father out of which three died, contradicting the accused person’s narration that he had only a two-year-old baby with his daughter called Dodzi. The accused would not allow anybody to intervene as he allegedly threatened people with death if they meddled in his sexual relationship with his daughter. He allegedly threatened to invoke the spirit of his gods to deal with meddlers. The accused told the court that he was both a farmer and a fisherman, although the prosecution witness claimed he was unemployed. Before his arrest, the accused told the police that his daughter suffered from sickle cell anaemia, and had come to stay with him from a cocoa-growing area. Togbui Sekpetey II had earlier fined the accused a fowl so his daughter could be cleansed before reporting the matter to the police. http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/07/19/how-native-doctor-impregnated-daughter-nine-times/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=how-native-doctor-impregnated-daughter-nine-times |
How our ancestors gave Oshiomhole victory – Oba of Benin reveals Respected Benin traditional ruler, Oba Erediauwa, yesterday, disclosed how he prayed to his ancestors and God Almighty to give Governor Adams Oshiomhole victory in the just conducted governorship election in Edo state, so that he can complete the impressive projects his administration had embarked on. Oba Erediauwa disclosed this on Tuesday when Oshiomhole alongside his deputy, Dr. Pius Odubu, visited him in his palace, where the governor presented him with his Certificate of Return. Dailypost gathered that before the Oba spoke, he brought out a ‘special’ kola and hot drink, which he ordered the Iyase of Benin kingdom to pray with for the second tenure of Oshiomhole. The Iyase equally thanked God and the ancestors for ensuring victory for Oshiomhole and prayed that the gods will provide the wherewithal with which the governor will use to continue his infrastructural development. The prayer over, the Oba told Oshiomole that he had always prayed for the success of the governor privately but that he had now decided to address him publicly now that God and the ancestors had answered his prayers. The elated monarch said, “I have addressed you privately and prayed for you for your second term. You are welcomed to my palace. We have watched what you have done, like what the media is saying that your handwork is going to campaign for you. I prayed to my ancestors for you too and every body has seen what you are doing for the people. “Some of the roads that were- left in a bad state, we have seen what you have done. And, of course, not only Benin Kingdom but the entire state, infrastructural developments are going on. The last time you came, I prayed to the ancestors to assist you come back to complete the works your started. As my Chief was praying, he added in his prayers that God and the ancestors should provide you the wherewithal to carry on with your infrastructural development and do more.” The governor and his team thanked the Oba for being behind his administration and assured, he assured him that he would use the God-given resources to bring more infrastructural development to Benin City in his second tenure. http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/07/19/how-ancestors-gave-oshiomhole-victory-oba-benin/ Oba, I hail u. |
