Sports › AFCON 2013 Final: “I Saw It Coming” – Prophet T.B Joshua by scopusng(op): 9:00pm On Feb 11, 2013
The victory of Nigeria‘s Super Eagles over the Stallions of Burkina Faso at the final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa yesterday did not come as a surprise to the General Overseer of The Synagogue Church Of All Nations, Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, who had on Thursday last week predicted that Stephen Keshi and his team would defeat their opponents to lift the Africa Cup.

Sunday Mba‘s brilliant winner ended Nigeria‘s 19-year wait for the Africa Nations Cup title. Mba flicked the ball over Mohamed Koffi of Burkina Faso before volleying home five minutes before the break.

Before the crucial final, T.B. Joshua said that though the match would be tough, the Eagles would win – and they indeed defeated Burkina Faso to win the coveted trophy Sunday night in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Speaking shortly after the match last night, T.B.Joshua noted that the Nigerian team won the match as he predicted.

“I told you that the Eagles’ case was like the biblical Jacob who wrestled with God, saying that unless God blessed him he will not let Him go. I saw the victory coming,” he said.

Prophet Joshua had churned out a lot of football prophecies that came to pass. He predicted that the Satellites of Ghana would win the 2009 World Youth Championship, WYC, that was hosted by Egypt. He also predicted the outcome of the matches between Ghana and Nigeria at the Nations Cup in 2008. Another preidction was Nigeria’s loss to Tunisia in the 2004 Nations Cup in the semi final. In the qualifying matches to the South Africa 2010 World Cup, he predicted that Coach Shuaibu Amodu would qualify Nigeria for the Mundial and it came to pass.

Even at the just concluded 29th edition of the Nations Cup in South Africa, the Prophet told the Super Eagles that they were going to concede a late minute equaliser against the Stallions of Burkina Faso in their Group C opener, which came to pass.

He was also able to predict correctly the outcome of the second semi-final clash between Burkina Faso and the Black Stars of Ghana, which saw Burkina Faso, beating Ghana through penalties.

His two predictions will live to haunt the Elephants of Ivory Coast for a very longtime as he once told them that they were going to reach the final of the 2012 edition of the Nations Cup in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, but they would lose the trophy to the Chipolopolo of Zambia.

The second prediction that jolted Didier Drogba-inspired Ivory Coast was that the Eagles would send them packing from the South Africa 2013 Nations Cup which came to pass when they lost 1-2 to the Nigerian team.

zonax: This is the story of a young boy whose parents were murdered during 2002 riots in Kaduna. He was aged 11 years at the time. His parents, Mr Austine and Mrs Josephine Moses, were missionaries until they met their untimely death. The boy left his house to play football but returned home to see that all his parents had laboured for had been razed down and he would never see his mother and father again.
He was taken to London by his uncle almost immediately after the incident. While in London, he began deploying his football skills. Though his parents were murdered, his passion for football was never killed. He played football for his school and later for a local Tandrige League club until Crystal Palace FC approached him. From that point, his career progressed in leaps and bounds.
This player played for England's under 16, 17, 19 and 21 teams between 2005 and 2010 scoring 11 goals for England during this period. He later moved to Wigan Athletic and now he plays for Chelsea. This footballer is called VICTOR MOSES.
His story is a touching one, I share his pains. I also share his courage. He had a choice not to step into Nigeria again but he didn't take that option. When the call to serve his fatherland came, Moses dumped England and embraced Nigeria... That is patriotism!
Today, we see a Victor Moses bringing joy to every Nigerian including those who may have inspired his parent's death... That is Love!
On Sunday, Moses would stand for the National Anthem and pledge allegiance to a country that couldn't defend his parents... That is faith!
Moses would deliver the "African Cup of Nations" trophy to Nigeria (God willing),not minding what had happened in the past... That is forgiveness! Moses rose through bitterness and despair to the limelight of hope and courage.
He never gave up on his country. He persevered... That is purpose!
If someone like Victor Moses, despite the bitter past, never gave up on Nigeria, then why should we....! ONE NIGERIA
Great Inspiration.

Head coach of the Nigerian national team, Stephen Keshi has hinted that he may quit after the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

The former national team captain said in a press conference in Durban on Tuesday that he had yet to decide whether he would stay on after the 2013 Afcon.

“I am a professional and would act accordingly,” he said.

Keshi also stated that "some Nigerians" do not value what he is doing with the team which has prompted his current stance.

Keshi’s declarations would no doubt jolt the nation as the Super Eagles prepare for Wednesday’s 2013 Afcon semifinals against Mali.

djustice: In ACN's Lagos, the more you steal, the bigger your reward. Ashafa stole over N4 billion as Executive Secretary, then Permanent Secretary of Lands, and became a sin-ator. Fashola stole billions under phantom road rehabilitation schemes, PPP and public sector. HE REMAINS THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR. Their fada, the Jagabandit of Lagos, the hungry rat of Bourdillon, Yekini Amoda Ogunlere, aka Bola Ahmed Tinubu, continues to pillage the treasury of Lagos, to the tune of hundreds of billions of naira, cumulatively, and has given himself the sobriquet "Eko", meaning Lagos.

Politics › Under GEJ Govt ,the More You Steal, The Less Punishment You Receive – ACN by scopusng(op): 9:20am On Feb 06, 2013
Leading opposition party, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has said that President Goodluck Jonathan is not competent enough to lead this nation, saying that under his administration, the more money you steal, the less punishment you receive

The party in a communiqué issued in Abuja Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, lampooned one of his special advisers, Doyin Okupe for seeking to blame the opposition for Jonathan’s inability to make a positive impact on the lives of Nigerians.

It said the likes of Okupe, rather than the opposition, had contributed in no small measure to the administration’s low esteem in the eyes of Nigerians.

The statement reads in part: “There is no point rummaging through the dictionary to define incompetence, as Okupe has done in his rambling statement. All one needs to do to understand the meaning of incompetence is to look at the waffling Jonathan administration. “Touting President Goodluck Jonathan’s impressive academic qualifications is also very cheap, as they have not proven to be an asset in the way and manner the President has steered the affairs of his administration, especially his articulation of his government’s policies and the projection of its ability. In any case, while a doctorate degree in any field is something to be celebrated, it is not a pre-requisite for being a good leader,” it said.

According to ACN the incompetence and cluelessness of the Jonathan administration had deterred the nation from growing.

“No administration in our recent history has been more a hotbed of corruption than the Jonathan administration, whether it is the fuel subsidy scam or the police pension scam, just to mention two. Even when a feeble attempt is made to prosecute those behind the scams, the majesty of the law is rubbished by incompetent prosecution that ensures that convicted persons get only a slap on the wrist. Under the Jonathan administration, the more money you steal, the less punishment you receive.

“Profligacy has also been the order of the day. If this government is not building a N2.2 billion banquet hall, it is spending N4 billion on the office building of the African First Ladies Peace Mission. The funds being wasted on these white elephant projects would have been better spent on creating jobs for our youths, millions of whom are roaming the streets daily in search of what to do to make ends meet,” the party said. On the road contracts awarded by the Jonathan administration, it said the joke was on Okupe, who, in saner climes, could not be speaking for any government that was worth its salt.

“There is nothing new about awarding contracts for road rehabilitation. What the public expects from Okupe is how many of the roads have been completed or are nearing completion?” ACN queried. The contracts for most of the roads, which Okupe listed in his statement have been awarded severally by previous PDP regimes, with nothing to show. Even Okupe has collected huge funds for road contracts that he later abandoned. How then can such contracts be celebrated, when all they do is put money in the pockets of party cronies?

How can such a man like Okupe speak for any serious government, when he should have been dutifully prosecuted? Little wonder the citizens have no trust in the Jonathan Administration?” ACN queried.

While a security crisis of the scale perpetrated by Boko Haram might be unprecedented in our country, equally unfathomable was the government’s inability to rise to the occasion, to such an extent that even the President admitted that his administration had been infiltrated by Boko Haram members.

“Of course, there is also unprecedented cases of kidnapping and armed robbery, all of which have overwhelmed the clueless government. “Overall, a government that lies to its citizens by either saying it had been hailed for its anti-corruption effort by Transparency International when that is not the case, or giving an exaggerated amount of electricity that has been generated cannot get much respect from the people. “A government that sends conflicting signals to foreign investors, in particular over whether or not the power contract awarded to Canadian firm, Manitoba has been cancelled, cannot and should not be trusted.

“The Jonathan Administration should address the issue of trust, chase away those among its officials who lack credibility because of their past deeds and begin to take governance very seriously. Then and only then, will it not have to worry about what label an imaginary opposition is putting on the government,” ACN said.

Politics › Detonates Parcel Bomb Addressed To Okonjo Iweala by scopusng(op): 4:19pm On Feb 04, 2013
The Nigerian Police Force Anti-bomb squad detonated a bomb in the NIPOST office at Area 10, Garki, under controlled circumstances.

The package complete with two N50 stamps was addressed to the finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and was intercepted after postal workers discovered there was something fishy about the package.

The bomb squad was called due to the diligent observation of NIPOST staff, and as a result no life was lost.

This will be one of several attempt at the Finance Minister in the past few months after she began efforts to sanitize the Fuel Subsidy sector of the economy.

Late last year her mother was kidnapped by unknown assailants.

Nigeria Ivory Coast

by Akan Ido

For those who somehow believed that the Super Eagles victory yesterday over the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire in the ongoing African Cup of Nations was due to the strategy of Coach Stephen Keshi then you thought wrong. Reports say the Association of Nigerian Prostitutes (ANP) is claiming that their promise of one-week free sex boosted the Eagles victory against their West African counterpart.

[READ: “We’ll give ONE WEEK of free sex if Eagles win the cup” – Association of Nigerian Prostitutes"]

According to the ANP General Secretary, Jessica Elvis, their members are ready to do anything to ensure more victories for the Super Eagles by way of motivation.

She said, “We are really happy for the sweet victory over Drogba and co. Our free sex promise contributed massively to this victory and I must thank my members for this decision.

“Our target is not to get to the semi final or the final, all we want is the cup and with the usual support of ANP, Super Eagles must fly,” she added.

Asked what the plans of the ANP is in ensuring that the Eagles come back with the AFCON trophy, Elvis said, “We are making plans to send more ANP members to South Africa to support the Eagles for the next match.”

With all this ‘support’ coming for the Eagles we don’t think they would have any excuse whatsoever not to defeat Mali in the next stage of the competition.

Politics › Good News: NCC Fixes SMS At N4.00 Flat by scopusng(op): 6:20pm On Jan 24, 2013
With effect from February 5, all domestic Off-Net Short Messaging Service (SMS), will cost N4.00. This is according to a directive by the Nigerian Communications Commission. The directive, which was signed by the Director, Legal and Regulatory Services of NCC, Ms. Josephine Amuwa, in a statement issued by the commission’s Head of Media and Public Relations , Reuben Muoka, has been communicated to the operators since January 3, 2013.

But she maintained that the commission will not place a price cap yet on International SMS.

The commission, she said, arrived at the new price cap after due considerations of the submissions made by the operators at various consultative meetings.

She said having evaluated and analyzed SMS traffic information provided by the operators, the commission noted that “There was a general recognition that the cost of SMS is too high, especially in view of the interconnection rate of N1.02 for SMS as determined by the commission in 2009.”

While noting that the operators had proposed a price cap ranging between N5-10 per message for Off-Net SMS, she said the operators also urged NCC not to set a cap for international SMS due to the fact that Interconnect rates for International SMS are outside the commission’s purview.

Crime › Man, 75, Jailed For Defiling His 12-year-old Daughter by scopusng(op): 1:12pm On Nov 30, 2012
A 47-year-old father, Godwin Allu has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment with hard labour by a Benin Chief Magistrate’s Court for defiling his 12-year-old daughter.

The convict, was accused of unlawfully having devouring his daughter on Nov. 20, at 19 Omono Street, off Stadium road, Benin City.

According to the prosecutor, his offence contravened section 208 of the Criminal Code, cap 48 Vol .11 of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, which is applicable to the present Edo state.

The minor had earlier testified that her biological father had slept with her countless times at different occasions.

The victim, who had blood stains on her school uniform, told her headteacher at Obaseki Primary School, Benin of her ordeal in the hands of her sex-crazed dad.

The headteacher later reported the case at the Airport Police Station, also in Benin, leading to his summon in court.

He pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Peter Obaseki, while delivering her judgment yesterday, described the heinous act as cruel for which the accused deserved no mercy.

He said, “That the accused had carnal knowledge with a 12-year-old child on three separate occasions is bad enough.

“It is heart rendering that he was doing it with his own daughter, who even had blood stains on her uniform on the day this incest was reported.

“The case of sexual offence in this jurisdiction is not only increasing, but that of parents defiling their own daughters is also becoming common knowledge,” the Magistrate said.

Obaseki said, “it is necessary that the court join other stakeholders in taking a serious stand in order to wipe out this monster before the society’s moral fabric is completely destroyed.

“For this reason, the convict must be put out of circulation for sometime so that he would not be able to continue with his bestial activities.

“It is my prayer that God will forgive and change him for the better while in prison.

“In the circumstance, the convict is sentenced to seven years imprisonment with hard labour. There shall be no option of fine.”

The court also ordered the victim to be taken to an orphanage for care and protection.
