Whatever our disscusions may be, let us not veer towards tribalism. Sanusi is not really d problem, recall dat over 30 or so US banks failed this year. There is also a Global Economic Meltdown, how can we hope to be left out in all these.I am stating explicitly that I am using speculation here. But I dont think the global economic meltdown has much to do with naija banks- those US banks did a totally different type of business than naija banks. They were more exposed to risks than average nigerian banks- I for one don't think Sanusi is a problem persay---> But I still think in unqualified, and incompetent, I might one day eat my words- and I would be happy if that happens- but for now, I am waiting to see what sanusi plans to do to transform the banking industry in nigeria. |
actually in other countries investors will be BUYING MORE BANK SHARES RIGHT ABOUT NOW! they know the companies will do well in the future after a big hit, in nigeria with the whole mago mago in the NSE they should be cautious but all the same this is how you buy a bank, when everyone is selling you keep buying it till you become the major shareholder!!yeah that is true in naija, the probability is that you would likely own a lot of tissue paper (worthless share certificates), than actually own a bank- how much shyting can one do ![]() |
He got a Cum Laude (70%) in Mexico, a developing country (with relatively lower quality), and it became hot news. I got a Magna Cum Laude (85%) in Europe (this is true) and I consider myself not so hot, since I did not make a Summa cum laude (the highest grade). When will Nigerians stop being mediocres and celebrating second rate?Agree, but if I say am some idiot would come and start calling me a pompous person. lol |
Sanusi is an IDIOT. Mallam should go back to cattle banking. |
I really think a section tagged "Nairaland war or words" should be created.I have found out this is the case in this forum, it is very rare in other forums. So when I am in nairaland, i have to get ready for insults, then when i change to another forum I am more relaxed |
they just gonna recycle themself and make themself availble for senate and govenorshipThat is funny but true |
Kilo ruko eh olu abi wetin?hehe |
Sefago, you have not come back with the stronger arguments you promised.Sorry man it is school work that is worrying me now. IWhen my workload is less, i would present some points, i think that should suggest the possibilty of homosexuals being born like that. There are indeed animals who have same with the same gender and aren't attracted to the opposite sex.Yeah that is true, larger than those who use it for biological reasons, but I think using sexual behavior wuld be difficult because of the problem of how to classify homosexuality. I discarded it for that reason, if you read on research about animal homosexuality, you would notice how the scientist become really flighty when you ask them for the exact definition of homosexual behavior. You will also have to consider, that animals don't have sex regularly like humans and so most homosexual animals might not be homosexual throughput their lifespan unlike gay humans. The major problem with this argument is the significant leap of logic which involves extrapolating animal sexual behavior to human sexual behavior. It is true that both animals and humans engage in homosexual activities, however they are not the same when placed in the exact context. That is the strongest fault in the animal sex behavior. Humans engage in rational homosexual behavior (they think through it b4 they actually engage in it) the question is why? As someone pointed out, why would you want to be gay, despite all the prejudices associated with it? |
If you are thinking of working in the US, I would say get ready for a bumpy road, however as an engineer, you have first pick, and with a graduate degree, your options are significantly higher- I would say consider schools in texas, louisiana, georgia (especially georgia tech if you are phenomenal). I am clueless about the south- I only know about the northeast . I once went to the south and it was full of trees, and farmlands and cows, I thot i was in naija . I am kidding ooo. |
he was top of his classI think this quote made me happy. But that is good news |
Nothing beats having an Engineering/Finance combo.Mate you do know whats up . yeah, the best combo (From what i hear, i dont know) is an undergrad degree in engineering then work for three years, then an MBA in finance or proceed immediately into an MS in Operations research/FE/ Finance after graduation. There are some guys whose only job is to hack systems and expose security vulnerabilities. They command top dollar in pay (they subtly ask to be well-paid so that they won't be tempted to sell critical information to the Russians!)Haha, I think this would however pose significant problem to the US in the future. American policy makers (from what I have heard and see), are really certain that china/india would overtake their economy in 50+ years (the sheer size of these countries makes it difficult for development to trickle down to the less-developed areas. Like Mumbai, though being the silicon valley of india, has a significant number of slums). This would be further accelerated by the fact that a lot of PhD programs (contributors to the technological advancements in the US) are from these countries. I think we would see more covert transfer of technology as America loses its position as the sole world power. I am not sure, I might be wrong, I am reading it as it seems. I have colleagues that have gone on to pursue a Ph.D and are today Chief Technology Officers, Lead Information Security Engineers at places like HP and EBay.wow Hope you will cross the field to Engineering and not health-care.Well still making decisions, but I have always been an engineer at heart- and a scientist by choice. Thanks, I rarely get the chance to converse with people in the IT/engineering field. So what do you think about social media entrepreneurship- i dont know if this is part of IT- especially in Nigeria? Like Nairaland, has been a huge success . i found it in 2005, when I finished secondary school and had to sit in naija for a year doing nothing. The membership has evolved greatly- when I first started, there were very few people, but 3 years later it has exploded. I think Nairaland, could be a good case study, for the opportunities available for social media. |
maybe you should change your location Grin - or perhaps, look harder to find the hard working Nigerians entrepeneurs and professionals around you Wink.Well I am ok where I am thnxs. You are correct nigerians overachieve though but i don't really feel like going into the dynamics of things. Definitely not every Nigerian is a loser, infact I understand the hurdles immigrants have to go through. But even though Nigerians might have some of educational attainment they are not even close to the chinese/indians/korean immigrants- this I have seen and can provide significant proof. Just because you see 1 professor teaching, you will find a whole department full of the chinese. I am sometimes struggle to convince myself they have nothing innately intelligent about them and that we can do it. The thread is correct we do have that? But how have we used it for a purpose? What was the quality of the doctorates? |
Good that you guys finally got the point I was canvassing all along. It is instructive that even at the height of the recession when companies like Microsoft gave pink slips to some of their MBA holders, they were still recruiting engineers.Yeah, I know that the demand for engineers wouldn't slow down as opposed to the people who engage in less innovative but sought after professions. I think, we are chasing the money, more than the job. Engineers do get recruited a lot but also there salaries peak and opportunities for them to penetrate upperlevel management needs a masters degree (at least) but most usually an MBA. This is what I have seen from talking to people, What is your opinion texmex? I really want to know because this is a question I have always had- do engineers just peak at a certain salary, assuming they don't start a company? What opportunities do they have to join the higher management? I noticed that a lot of CEOs/executives in major engineering companies have business degrees as opposed to engineering? Recruiters from companies like Microsoft, Google, Texas Instruments, CONOCO, CHEVRON, VERIZON etc regularly visit schools during career fairs to recruit interns, and offer CPT, OPT and full-time job positions. Also, the National Society of Black Engineers conduct job fairs of her own to give minorities and foreigners a chance to meet recruiters. There are few things, i regret but one of them is not going to do engineering as an undergrad. All the international students, I know, all go into finance or consulting. A lot got jobs at google but i think it was also consulting. Engineering firms dont recruit a lot in my area, since we don't even have many of them. I also don't want to go anywhere near the south a.k.a Texas, as a preference. So Texmex, are you an Electrical/Mechanical engineer? |
sad to see nigerians in nigeria have no pride in themselves, what a pityContinue pitying Some people are really foolish. They think everybody is like them. So Wikipedia don't know what they're saying, abi? Rubbish. Move among those on higher levels and you'll see what Nigerians are achieving in every location.Agreed some of us are foolish . But Wikipedia isn't always accurate, yes, but correct, no. Accurate in that it provides the exact information as it it from respected sources, but correct in that some of its claims might be unsubstantiated. However, it is true Africans have the highest educational attainment for immigrants (From the U.S census bureau), and it has even being profiled in lots of magazines/newspapers in the US since 2006. Agreed. But I think candylips was thinking of what they do with the degrees, not how many they have. Nigerians abroad-US and UK-are successful no matter what they do, but the large majority are not and that is prolly where misconceptions come from. I see more nurses and cab driverrs in my areas than professionals, doesn't mean there aren't nigerian professionals, my perspective is skewed by my location. It is all about the numebrs. |
Finance is out, Gangster business is in. |
He is actually telling the truth. Don't hate the messenger. We are good nurses too . |
So do oil companies discriminate in hiring foreigners? Like I-banks (what i have seen) only take the best of the best internationals( very elitist and from certain targets, they also need internship experience) but oil companies I heard (I really want to find out since it seems you are in the south/Midwest and that is were they are situated, adn i dont know anything about how they hire) and that they prefer people from state schools or schools closer to them. |
U are one sad creature!.No I am quite happy mate. Just a realist. When was that a crime? Can you please shut your orifice?Yes i will Ok, it is closed now, pourquoi? |
yay, this is a a topic i have been looking for- coming back |
Animals are not homosexual within the context of homosexual desire andYou are perfectly right, I was hoping no one would see that really large loophole in my argument. Animals do have sex with the same gender, but sometimes for biological purposes, like to make themselves more attractive to the other gender and increase reproduction. Homosexual humans don't do that and it serves no biological purpose. See how to put people to shame .However, I would come back, with a stronger argument for people being born as homosexuals. yep, the animal theory is very very weak I admit. I was only going to admit it when I got a good argument against it. I don't step down, until I am actually even when I know I am wrong until someone tells me the real reason why I am wrong. The OP did. But Hold on. While I am at it- is anyone here gay? I feel they are the only ones that have the right to comment on it. They know what it means to be gay, we are just making conjectures. They can prolly make the most objective comments because they know why they are attracted to the same gender. I actually never asked a gay person that. All I know is from books, and some interactions with gays but not like outright questions This is why i said that the second premise is a mis-characterization of an exception as a rule. It should properly have read: "Some animals engage in homosexuality" - thus making it clear that homosexuality is not necessarily the norm within the animal sub-set.Just saw this one, again I was waiting for someone to pull this up. You are definitely a lawyer . Another big loophole. I can now understand why people get angry when they are outclassed, I am becoming to dislike you already deepsight (joking)I think I would have to using another field to support my arguments since the animal behavior theory just got raped, . But I need time |
we are so proud of you" and this arrogant prick came into the thread to be screaming what is the big deal and people should stop celebrating mediocrity.na lie I talk, when asians are valedictorians at Andover, exeter, choate, deerfield it is public school I would be applauding for. I respect what she did, I was never valedictorian but that doesn't mean I wouldn't speak my mind. I am not proud of my achievements, but strive to be proud of my country- so I want my countrymen to be better and i do it in a way that comes out as arrogant- na crime. Did you see in that post where i said I have achieved more than chiogo. Of course not, why should I (she is the least of my problems rite now anyways). Infact, a lot of people applauded my achievements getting into mediocre schools (As I said i consider Upenn, cornell, dartmouth and my less-esteemed school mediocre) and guess what i told my mum : "Mum stop clapping at mediocrity, It wasn't as if i won scholarships everywhere there, I belive we should only applaud for the best of the best- never one of the best. That is my opinion, it might be immature, or ignorant, but that is me. Nigerian kid got a Phd in record time in the UK and everyone was happy to hear that and this prick again came with the same disparaging dins like if he can do betterNa lie I talk, yeah I obviously can't do the same thing. you obviously know everything abt me. That wasn't even the point. To quote the esteemed scholar becomrich "you miss it" Exposure to the outside world makes you aware of the mediocrity in your country. You have to speak out about it, not out of personal pride but patriotism. I might be brash, and youthfully exuberant but nothing in your post made me feel inferior. See how deepsight attacked my arguments, I dont want to know what school he went to- his argument suggests intellect. Yours did not have one bit- only outright jealousy and insecurity. keep my school there as long as you want Agbaya You are just making it more famous ![]() Nigerians for example mention the inventor of GAGUT theory as if he is a real scientist- GAGUT theory is a fabrication. I said it- now start talking about my school. People talk about emeagwali as the founder of the internet, another fabrication- I said it, come and insult me again. I should attack any misconception or lies not for me self-aggrandizement, but for the welfare of my people. I havnt found those threads yet, but when I find them I will argue in them with gusto. You are invited ![]() Sit down, and talk, you don't know me, and you don't even know how far I have come or where I am going to. Judge me by my school . Your opinions wouldn't determine how far I am going. mate you should learn from me: Wisdom is ageless You think you learned a lot about me, you just learned what i presented on the internet. I told you, how courteous I am in reality, if you know me well enough, you would learn that i don't hate people for no reason. I don't dislike or hate you yet, you are just venting your frustration online. By the way did you see the chimp (cheeky) i am enjoying every bit of my medicine, where is the next dose, I can't wait ![]() Speaking of someone who hates pedophiles, and wants to flog me. Irony ![]() What do you want me to call you now "Sir" I feel we should end this and address the thread, You think I am pompous (you are actually true in some regards), I think you are an ass (please try and prove me otherwise)Disclaimer: I am totally ignorant and mediocre so no one should insult me, I am not worth it-everyone on nairaland knows more than i do. i am just stating what my below average mind thinks. |
Shut up, if you are not engage yourself to understand reasons for things or historical exchanges then don't comment stupidly on it.LOL LOL LOL. By the way listen to fela kuti's roforofo fight- a man I greatly admire regardless of the what he did in his lifetime because he was an intellectual- he knew exactly what was wrong with his countrymen. We are both equally guilty in my own opinion of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmwOAuJPmoM Then my first interaction with him was in the Sanusi sackings thread where he came in to say a lot of folks are not smart, that smart people like him would make a good president. He went on to belittle Soludo and gave us a lecture of what policies he would have set as CBN governor and quickly pointing out to the audience that he knows all these despite not even studying economics as a degree and has not graduated in the one he is doing.Read a lot of your posts compare them to mine very similar in hubris and arrogance. They are no different, infact, I am beginning to think we are the same. You write at night and I do during the day (from my perspective, split personality). Oh shit, I forgot, I dont present arguments like an 8 year old. Ooops theory discarded. Example: ctrume, you get what you pay for.Did any UCL graduate come and start asking you, what school did you go to. Considering the fact that it is definitely not oxbridge prolly in the warwick---> down category. It is a probably a slightly prestigious school (I hope so for all the mouth you are making at my mediocre school that it is at least top 5 ), I can tell from your post, your knowledge of other schools suggest somewhat exposure to the elite. Agreed that oxbridge is really the only university in the UK that teaches critical thinking but why do you have to undervalue UCL . You need more evidence of your arrogance? He went on with blah blah vitriol against me, which I ignored to save a brilliant thread and warned him he had no self-awareness (evidence in his stupidity here when he asserted he is demonstrating "maturity"It is interesting how infactual your recount of your encounter with my great mind was ![]() See you think like me, just less articulate. |
Interesting debate you have going on. May i present myself as a judge of sorts. I do happen to have a legal background.Very good and well balanced argument, and very well articulated (It is quite impressive, considering what i have been seeing on nairaland). You found the numerous holes in my arguments that i was waiting for sagamite to find out (This isn't in anyways an insult to sagamite, this is just the truth). Cough Cough, You should help sagamite learn how to write as well as you did, that is how you show intellect not by roforofo fight- these was thetype of argument I was looking for. I wouldn't further contribute on this thread because the number of trolls far outweigh the number intellectuals |
Germany is the largest economy in europe.yeah i knw that Their economy is mainly driven by the manufacturing sector and her main indexes (DAX) is closely related to (DJIA)This was what i was looking for. I am still trying to fathom who they are manufacturing for in this economy ![]() Disclaimer: I am totally ignorant and mediocre so no one should insult me, I am not worth it-everyone on nairaland knows more than i do. i am just stating what i think |
Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, France, and Germany have all come out out recession. They have all reported positive growths.Japan, Hong kong, singapore are all expected, France too, very conservative banking style that i like. I dont know anything about germany though. |
recent data supports bernanke though. major economies have started trickling into quarterly positive growth.Agree 100% that i am wrong in that aspect (totally ignorant on the exact data), but I have a feeling (I am not privy to the economic reports) that the heat on Obama concerning the bailout, requires bernanke the president to push for more healthy statistics. Remember, a few weeks/months after the U.S president renominated bernanke, then bernanke presents a report that the economy is recovering and the bailout likely worked. What major economies are you talking about- Are they the emrging Asian giants- the panda and the elephant (China and India), or are they western European countries. I am too tired to find out, do the research for me. ODE is going to be my nemesis ![]() Disclaimer: I am totally ignorant and mediocre so no one should insult me, I am not worth it-everyone on nairaland knows more than i do. i am just stating what i think |
Interestingly Bernanke claims the recession is over. While unemployment, stands around 8-9% in the US. Bernanke is probably using propaganda tactics to reassure American consumers We would have to wait until things work out, and see real recovery, a.k.a I need a job. (Disclaimer: I am totally ignorant and mediocre so no one should insult me, I am not worth it-everyone on nairaland knows more than i do. i am just stating what i saw) |
Don't worry, everything has a reason. My problem is 3 times urs . So you studied accounting, that is a good degree- you are set, why you dey fear? I know ppl who were banking on I-banks, and now the recession expose their yansh . They are seating GMAT. Also it was old news that a lot of I-banks are slashing their analyst class. In fact they were repealing offers to college seniors last year.I know this naija guy, very sharp, knows what he is doing, got internships at JP Morgan IBD, BP trading (on his resume), Worked with a US senator, worked in a private equity firm in DC focussed on Africa, networked like mad-he has pictures with CEOS of major companies: and he did not get any job offers. Not one. He just graduated, But he is coming to DC, and I would yarn with him so that he can tell me what is going on in wall street. Heard about this naija girl, she got an offer at Well fargo, and she got it repealed (in their information technology department). Poor girl, considering the fact she is an international student. She managed the impossible and got a job in America, got it repealed, b4 she even did the struggle for work visa. To make matters worse, the US Senate, planned to make provisions (i dont know if they ever did) - wanted to make sure investment banks receiving bailout funds could never hire foreigners, because "it doesn't make sense to hire foreigners, when the banks can hire Americans, the one who are financing the bailout" Immediately I heard that one, I knew all was over, If I-banks stop taking all the chinese and indian people who build their financial models- who go do am? Lazy Americans who fear math like rabies ![]() Please read (Disclaimer: I am totally ignorant and mediocre so no one should insult me, I am not worth it-everyone on nairaland knows more than i do. i am just stating what i saw) |
I knew you were going to reappear- it was abt time . You are as predictable as a chimp. This statement wasn't haughty. I dont think it is anything wrong reminding my countrymen to strive for the best even though i am mediocre I want the best for my children. Did you read the economist feature on management gurus: http://www.economist.com/businessfinance/management/displayStory.cfm?story_id=13167376 No nigerian, why should I be happy. I wouldn't rest until my countrymen are amongst the best. By the way this is a purely educational (ignore the chimp statement i was being cheeky ):How is it that a strategy analyst has so much time to post on nairaland. Like, I thought I-bankers spent crazy hours, like 60-80 hrs a week (I am totally ignorant). Or is it the recession, no deals, M&A, no imaginary money to make or IPO to issue (cheeky). I just want to know how the city of london is faring compared to wall street. All I hear is wall street, abeg educate me. How many hours do you work, what schools are the most represented in city of london (I heard 80% are either oxbridge, UCL, LSE , Imperial- is that true? (I dont want to know your school, I am interested in learning about a new system), What courses do most people study? I want to learn about city of london. How is Lloyds TSB, HSBC, RBS (royal scotland doing), barclays, halifax ? You could choose to answer, it is your prerogative. |
SEFAGO, are you really 19?@Kelorrah I am now 108, because it seems people are judging me a lot on my age. My question is are you over 18? ![]() Disclaimer: I am totally ignorant and mediocre so no one should insult me. However I do have needs . |
Quick question: Are you gay? (no pun intended)Just curious, I can't find the pun here, could you point it out to me. |
