so if everyone does chemical engineering, what about the other fields that need development in nigeria. I know a lot of people are doing chemical enineering wityh the hopes of getting a job in the oil sector. |
Man Mr Know All is an idiot, I swear. CBN governor is supposed to be an economist, usually a doctoral economist. The problem with bankers is that they are usually clueless about macroeconomic policie, and would find it difficult to measure the impact of their decisions on the economy. Thats why it might be likely that Soludo could have noticed the stumbling structure of these 5 banks in nigeria but tried to prop them up instead of exposin their ass quickly. Sanusi behaved like a banker, and fired the 5 CEOs like he would if he was in a bank. Firing people would not improve confidence in the bank which is what the banking sector needs. |
Yes man split the tithe, it could potentially reduce the amount of private jets in the church industry. |
They are piling their cash and destroying the country, money comes, money goes---its what you do with it that matters. I wouldn't criticize Otedola or Dangote or Adenuga because on that forbes list several of the people there are no different than Otedola and Co. They exploited the corruption in their country to become billionaires. The major problem however, is that there is no real brilliant businessman in nigeria, like no whizkid genius who made his money with maybe a little corruption but coupled with innovative management skills. Not one single person. And its not only in Nigeria but like the whole of Africa. The lucabrasi guy, though i dont know him, is telling you the truth. He isn't saying it the right way but the truth is the truth no matter what is said. if Otedola exploited the system and used the money he got wisely to expand into other form of businesses it would be better but all they do is concentrate on the same thing oil, quick consumer goods, money laundering and telecommunications. There is so much more. Otedola could use the money to expand into other sectors that need real development. Even the other billionaire guy from south africa isnt innovative, He made his money the same 419 way. Ah I pity you guys ooo. You cannot see the truth when it is right next to you. |
Hey @whitelexi, How did you pay for your MBA? |

^ samething they said about soludo-sitdown and look attitude. Time will tell. |
Basically what i am trying to say (Incase you dont want to read my long post) is that Sanusi is underqualified and has no business in CBN. He should be working in a private commercial bank. Its a political appointment. Period. |
err the problem with nigeria is not just a lack of expertise but a whole lot of things. However, we fall behind in expertise a LOT. Because without adequate knowledge or institutions you cannot drive an economy, I know this is totally irrelevant to the topic, the reason i am mentioning it, is that i dont trust Lamido Sanusi, and also the people he replaced the thieves with are unqualified thieves themselves (I just hope they were placed in the interim). My main concern is that CBN rarely employs any fiscal or monetary policy to improve the economy or curb inflation or anything. No well-laid macro-economic plans. Man the guy calls himself a risk manager (wtf is that). Risk management, at its most is in its infancy in naija, and so his experience is dwarfed by those real risk managements that go on in companies like Goldman Sachs who control more than Nigeria's budget. Like from what i have read on this forum about him, he is more of a banker person than a public sector person. Private banking and CBN are two different things. He doesnt seem he has any skill to manage a central banker maybe at most a private commerical bank. And would you blame those who come back home and steal? There are very few like really well-educated nigerians anyways- in the most elitist schools as you call them- and when they are surrounded by people who are unwilling to change they give up hope and just join the crowd, while putting their best to it . Look at Okonjo-iweala, she studied developmental economics, I am sure in the hope that she would help nigeria and see what happened afte when she came back. If i was made finance minister, after her experience i would also feel like stealing money. Finally, I am not pulling out the names of schools, even present nigerian students are smart even with their limited resources. But its not enough and we are really really falling behind. if we dont pick up soon, we would spiral into a place of no return. Its what i have learnt from attending one of those fallopian schools as you call them, that we could keep talking and talking about our problems, about someone sacking who, but we would only progress when we start thinking up viable and alternative solution. |

I remember coming to the US, and writing my essays with big grammar. My professors gave me bad grades continuously, as well as criticized my word choice. Now, I write with very limited and simple grammar making sure it elucidates my point. And thats when my grades started going up- Lesson learnt Americans are not like the British its how you say it and not what you say |
MBA man, thats were the money is at. And you can work for corporate nigeria if u know what i mean. ![]() |
INfact, you can find their children on facebook, and all those social networks, let us use them |
City of David, lol I remember when i was in naija and all the women used to try and outdo each other with their cars and clothes in City of David. Na city church they even named it. The name is apt. Show off club. |
^ ^^^Nikky5, abeg shattap there "No doubt Redeem is the fastest growing church in Africa and in the world.Go and see the new auditorium in the RCCG camp built without demanding any levy from any member' Congrats Africa. No notable company or business has come out of Africa, but our religious industry is booming. Despite the recession grappling the world, major religious institutions like Redeem Ltd, MFM & Co, Deeper life communications,Cele, Cherry Boom and Serafum industries are flourishing. Their reserves are strong and growing. Infact, these industries have decided to expand and become multinationals. Their award winning slogan "suffer suffer for world, enjoyment for heaven" keeps increasing their pockets. However like the characters in Animal farm, the CEOs of these multinational religious companies do not keep to the slogans. It remains for the Nigerian government and the smart ones amongst us to wisen up, and begin to reap the benefits of this emerging and innovative industry. For one, I propose that Redeem and those other churches should capitalise by becoming listed in the Nigerian stock exchange, as well as the london stock exchange and New York stock exchange. Imagine the possibilities. Mergers and acquisition of various religious institutions could create one mega church. Before you know it, Nigeria would become renowned for its religious organizations. I see $$$. And the market is large. There are so many mugu nigerians that consume what the churches produce, that it would take hundreds of years b4 consumer forget they have been boboed. Man massive ponzi scheme You guys this is a great investment opportunity. Stop complaining and let us talk of how we can get our own share. As I said if we cannot beat them, join and surpass them. |
I wakaka everywhere in Africa, I wakaka everywhere in Africa, I go to every village in Africa, my people dey cry and dey go sing Amen Amen Amen. Suffering and smiling, na your fault me that- fela kuti |
Man Tudor tell this mofos the truth. However, they would not listen, instead of wasting your time, you better set up your own church and make money from this Nimugurians. If you cannot beat them join them. Nigeria is never going to progress man, especially if we continue with our sitdown and look attitude. Man we shoud just burn the effing pastor. yep i typed it and your imaginary God is not doing anything to me. I am so angry that people believe strongly ina religion from another land can't you guys think. Just read the bible and allow yourself think, you would end up laughing at the whole fairytale of christianity. And people think Harry Potter was entertaining. From Leviticus (Farmer law) to the Gospels (tory tory) everything was made up. Why hasnt anyone seen an actual miracle, you have heard of miracles but no one has seen one. Hearsay. Their are witches in nigeria but i am sure no one here is a witch but we all fear witches. Listen to Fela Kuti he knew everything. He knew hw stupid we were about religion and fear. Dont believe in God determining your destiny- its in your hands and not in pastor adeboye. Man of God my ass. |
And no one should correct my english, because i scattered SAT, WAEC Englsh, TOEFL, GRE Verbal respect. I am listening to fela and his song "beast of no nation perfectly describes all human beings" |
"i did a afghai/iraqi/saudi girl before. she was kinda weird though she always got excited around fireworks or planes. Huh" HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. Anyways, this is inteersting because i got to skul in the US. Well i think asians are pretty but i find everyone pretty, I am sure if i see a green girl i wuld find her pretty sha as long as she is human .But to be sincere Asians rarely date blacks or so i am told anyways, funny thing is that a lot of asian girls are rily friendly to me but i never flirt with them because i assume they probably like white guys anyways. And in the US, white male-asian female couple are really large, like in my skul its like if there is yellow fever man. My naija friend dates a filipino, but like most asians who date africans are filipino, i rily dont knw why. I think the most painful part of reading this- i was reading Gabry's post abt malaysians discrimination to africans- is that they make it difficult for africans to live in malaysia. Because asians set up shot in naija, open business in naija and won't let us reciprocate. Anyways let me keep working to become finance minister in naija- so that i can pull an Idi Amin on all the chinese companies and send them away, they are not helping naija develop anyways (making note in diary). Man instead of us developing naija so that asians would want to come here and we can terrorise them too. Anyways bak to topic, I like the hardworking nature of asians and would date them but as a demographic i would have more respect when they change their white ass-kissing attitude. Because white ppl dont rily like them. |
well they can't know, but for you to get stipend and full tuition, you have to apply for a MS/PHD and not just the terminal masters. So you can drop out after your MS, but to be sincere is it worth it to get into a PhD program and then drop out- a lot of people do it- just like larry page, enrolled for a PhD at Stanford then dropped out after his MS. But getting into the MS/PhD is an accomplishment and people just stick with it, especially if they can't get a job. It is close to impossible for foreigners to get industry jobs in such a recession anyways so many just continue on with their Phd. |
I meant few to no top school give financial aid (research or teaching assistantship) for a terminal masters (one in which the student is not interested in going towards a PhD straight after). What people normally do, is go for their first year and pay while get assistantship later. I might be wrong since I havent researched all schools (I have better things to do) but this is the norm in all American Universitites. |
well i should have carefully worded my post, No top school gives financial aid for terminal masters- now prove me wrong with only one exception to the rule. ![]() |
yay, I am also trying to do chemical engineering, but a PhD not masters- yeah u texas at austin doesnt give assistantship as u call it for engineering, neither does any skul so PhD is the way to go. |
stop applauding mediocrity mates, check the people at PhD institutions in the US and UK, what u are clapping for like monkeys is what indians and chines have 100 times. |
well i took the exam but i rily cant say hw i prepared. Also i went to school in the US and so my situation is different because i was well prepared to take the exam since i was used to the american system. However, case in point-the GRE is not that important in admissions for grad school programs in the US. ur CGPA is important so those first class- even if u bribed to get it- have a better chance. Combined with a high GRE scores then the sky is the limit. |
let me explain it to u- u dont rily have to be a guru- our counting system is in base 10 so 1+1=2 in base 10 up till base 3. Then we get to base 2, 1+1 is equal to 10. The problem is that the numbers are just way of visualizing a quantity so rily the numbers are useless and ur statement is totally unpredicated. 1+1= 11 cannot mean anything except it is equal to the quantity 2 in our minds- There fore these two smiles can be refrred top as 10 smiles in base 2, 11 smiles in whatever base or counting system u want to use as long as it doesnt detract from the fact that their are two smiles in the cognitive sense. |
"So cripple the economy, and maybe reduce MILLIONS OF NIGERIANS, who already have little, to living with nothing is the way to appease MEND? Na we all go suffer the effects of this in the end. The Government already does not care much and most of them have money stashed away for dry season, So I am not sure how this is going to help fix anything in the end. In fact, it is more likely the people will be worse off in the end, and those in power continue to retain power." ^This guy has lots of sense. "The average Nigerian does not gain much from FG money, so won't feel any real change in circumstances." ^Not true. The only difference between nigeria and niger is the oil nigeria has. Immediately we get no revenue from oil, then our economy would crumble into anarchy. We are not a consumer driven economy like the US or an export based one like china. Our only export is raw materials like oil. Everything in nigeria depends on oil- the banking industry, law firms, accounting firms, even doctors, and house boys- our economy is trickledown. Simple logic-No oil money for Alhaji, no money to get houseboys, no money to give his wife who would use it to buy stuff from the shop or the market. As this loss of oil revenue continues the situation gets worse. I am too busy to explain but if you have one business in nigeria that does not depend on oil revenue- I would be surprised. Another example, the banks in nigeria have gotten a lot of income from governors who stole money in naija. They use some of that money to do magogo and also to pay their staff. From this money, their staff can buy cars, feed their family and pay their children's school fees. If they cannot pay their children's fees all those private schools would not be able to get customers. They would close down and all that would be left is public schools (extreme scenario). So would all the car dealer stores. Honda would pack their bags when no one is buying. Man know ur economy- or at least take simple economics it would be helpful. By the way I think MEND is a very stupid organization. Simply put nigerians are naturally corrupt- most of those leaders in MEND would end up chopping the same type of money like the nigerian leaders and do the same thing while turning their back on the poor delta people who need it. Nigeria is hopeless, and so is every african country if we continue we are attitude of everyman for himself- one tribe for himself-one family for themselves type of logic. |
