My us k1 visa was denied under Section 212(a)(5)(A), when I asked the consular officer for the specific reason for the denial he didn't tell me, however he told me to get an immigration lawyer, what can I do, can I reapply for a new interview ?

Sorry about the denial. However, I don't think there's any need of getting an Immigration lawyer because you can't appeal a K-1 Visa denial.

I believe the rule is that you can only appeal a Spousal (CR-1) Visa denial.

I stand to be corrected though.

The U.S. Citizen petitioner is not allowed at the interview. There's no need for that.

The CO just wants to hear only from the applicant, who intends to migrate to the U.S.

I heard the Local government birth certificate stands out than the NPC. If you do have any idea or anyone please kindly clarify.

I would suggest you still get the Attestation from the NPC office, especially if you were born before 1992, as earlier advised.

Hey guys, a quick update on my medicals; so I did mine with The Consultants Practice at 25, Raymond Njoku street, Ikoyi Lagos. Their staffs are very professional and helpful, no attitude at all, I will highly recommend there. Though I arrived there some minutes to 8am and had to wait outside along with people who came before me until 8am when they let us in and attended to us according. Below is the breakdown of payment I made.

N61,550.00 = For blood test, urine test, some other tests and X-ray .
N23,175.00 = This is for immunization. I was given two shots, some people were given three which amounted to about 33,000 or there about. The price for immunization varies as a woman was asked to pay 15000. My result will be ready in two weeks and I am to go pick it up, they’re not sending it to the embassy as we heard earlier.


I also stopped by at the Federal high Court for my Age declaration. Please elders in the house, kindly help me look at it and tell if I need some corrections to be made. With the attached Certificate of birth and Affidavit, do I still need to get the long format from NPC office directly? Because I did my certificate of birth at my local government.

If you were born before 1992, please go and get the Attestation (the Long Format) at NPC in Surulere. Go there with the Sworn Affidavit from the Federal High Court.

You can download your i-94 from this website: https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov

Look for the Section that says: I-94 "Already Visiting & Need Proof of Visitor Status?"

Then under that phrase, Click on the Tab that says "Get Most Recent I-94"

Fill out the form as necessary & print it out.

And yes, go ahead as LegitBachelor advised.

You do not need to authenticate the documents at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.

The Letterhead and the official stamp imputed on the doc done at the NPC office is just okay.

I don't know of the location in Port Harcourt, you will need to look for the NPC office, that is located around there.

For those born before 1992, it's better you get the Attestation(the Long Format) & Sworn Affidavit of Birth done @ the NPC office. ( For those in Lagos, that will be at Babs Animashaun in Surulere).

The Embassy may accept the "Short Format" of your Birth Certificate at your K-1 interview(it's better you even do the new one before your interview), but you will need the Attestation (the Long Format) & the Sworn Affidavit of Birth when you are filing for Adjustment of Status(AOS) in the U.S.

Taking GMAT is basically needed if you plan to do a Graduate program(i.e. MBA). Some schools require it, while some don't request for it.

Send them another soft reminder via email.

You might also want to call them as well and let them know your current situation.

Sorry about the denial. But unfortunately, there's nothing you can do at this time.

There's no room for Appeal with K-1 Visa denials.

The best next step will be to file for a Spousal Visa.

It will cost you between 8k-10k at the NPC office in Lagos, depending on how fast you want to get it.

You will get both the Attestation Letter (from NPC) and the Affidavit (from the High Court).

He won't be allowed into the Embassy because he hasn't been scheduled for an interview, and you don't need to submit his Passport.

Though you can mention it to the CO that he's visiting & actually waiting on you outside, to encourage you in the process.

Had my interview today

Got to the embassy at 5:30 am for my 7:30am appointment ,heard everyone including the security talking about the new fees of 40700 once your visa is approved and no one could explain what visa category needed to make that payment ,so I had to rush back to the hotel and got my atm to withdraw from the bank ,the guys outside were helping people for early interview withdraw and charged 1k.When I got back did normal security checks given number 14.

Went into the main building, submitted documents at window 16 submitted appointment letter ,Ds160,medicals,police report, tax return,w2,paystub,birth certificate ,gave me back some evidence my fiancee submitted to uscis and told to sit and wait for my number,there are seats for immigrants to sit and the non immigrants stand.

There were only 2 officers to interview immmigrants and they were approving people ,by 9am i was called to window 17.

Why not marry in Nigeria ,didn't ask to see any document ,then he gave me 2 papers one for my rights in america and one circled where to pick up passport and visa would be ready in 2 weeks .

My petition was approved April 2nd, 2019. May 14th, We got a mail that our case was sent to nigeria embassy of which we waited patiently and got my packet-4 July 14th, 2019. So upon reading this thread, I got to know that petition expires and we realised it was to expire August 1, 2019.

I completed my DS 160 form and was awaiting the nearest date since July 30th, kept seeing "No available date". Finally got one for OCT 15th. Upon reading I decided to go for my med test September 30th(monday) two weeks before the interview, only for me to find out that my passport wouldnt be valid for the process (It is to expire mid march next year). I was so angry, and I kept thinking if only I got an earlier date, this wudnt have happened.

And not to focus on the problem, but solution; It means I must get a new passport on or before OCT 3(thursday) to do my medicals, (oh my that will be in three days time, I said to myself) and this is because med result comes out after 7 working days which will fall on Oct 14 a day to my interview (Oct 15).

But mehn, Eventually, I got my passport on wednesday, went for the medical on thursday, picked up the med result oct 14 and prayed that I get favoured the next day. Meanwhile, I was a bit worried because I have a new Passport number.

EVERYTHING TURNED OUT GOOD. I AM TO PICK MY PASSPORT AND VISA IN TWO WEEKS TIME.

Welcome to the States!

I will advise that you wait for about a week or two and then go ahead and apply for your Social Security Number, at your nearest Social Security Administrative office.

You will need to go with your International Passport and the print-out of your I-94 Form.

Can you also give us a brief about your interview experience, before you traveled?

The website may not have been updated. So don't worry yourself too much about that.

Have you submitted the documents that was requested from you? If so, send them an email and ask for an update of your case.

Make sure you include your Case Number, Full Names, D.O.B. & possibly Passport No.
