hermesprogidy: It's not Meji. It's Meiji. Emperor Meiji (The Meiji Restoration in the 18th Century) You are making my point. Lol. China's rise to greatness is way beyond wearing suits and trousers. Don't we wear suits and trousers here? China rose to greatness because of two things. Patriotism and competence. They quashed corruption, devalued the Yuan, and maximized their large population which made them an export hub, buy their products, and steal European and American technology. It has zero to do with some useless suit and tie. On the red carpet thing, at least you agree an African will do that, and that was the premise of this discussion in the first place. the importance of suit and tie in this discussion is because of how this man was dressed....as a tribute to some 'cultural heritage'. I denounced that cultural heritage nonsense by pointing to how the ever proud East Asians left many of their cultural heritage behind (including their dress) in favour of western/global styles. Of cause simply dressing in suit and tie is not all that is needed to develop...but it shows a willingness to shift from old ideas to more modern ideas. Of course Africans are in awe of whites and would seldom want to disturb their fun. But I can assure you again that a fellow white would call the police too if this guy was white. And since both the shop owner and this guy are black...it's perfectly ok. And you may also be surprised that this black shop owner would have still called the police even if this guy was white. Because the shop owner already formed his ideas about what an appropriate dress code looks like |

hermesprogidy: That's a very simplistic way of looking at things. China's new found success is not based entirely on embracing western culture. Like the Japanese, they only embraced western education, specifically science and technology, but left significant parts of their cultures intact. While I agree that not all aspects of our culture is beneficial and should be done away with, it is our blatant hypocrisy and inferiority complex that irks me. If it was a White man dressed in this attire that silly shop owner would have thrown out a red carpet. they embraced 80% of western ideas. In fact the only part of their culture they kept was language and religion. Even those have been influenced by west. Below is a street in Tokyo. See many English signages? See how 'western' the people in the photo are dressed? And for Japan, it was a deliberate strategy. Read about the Meji era. The emperor forced Japanese citizens to adopt western dressing deliberately. The westernization made Japan the sole non-white global power. Giving them the advantages to colonize China and Korea. As for a white men getting red carpet treatment...who told you that? Maybe from an African...but his fellow white would have called the police on him

hermesprogidy: China is the mother of inventions. She invented writing, paper, fireworks, and loads of other things you take for granted, including numbers and mathematics. (Alongside India) Westernization goes beyond dressing. It includes Religion, language and general culture. Africa has also been a mother of inventions long before China. Egypt and Sudan are the birth places of civilization. Today's China however owes its new found success to Western ideas. And they have gone deeper and deeper to westernise and modernize their society. Africa should do the same and leave the old ways. If you want to badly hold on to the old ways in the name of culture, you would create a very unappealing society |

FreeSpirited: Everything you typed here is no more confirming of your innate stupidity and ignorance of culture than your first idiotic comment. You are a displaced illiterate and a cultural fool without root nor legacy to identify with . If your education never failed you, How can you say Chinese are Westernised? How, Chinese and Japan are one of the brilliant example of cultural success of our generation, a glaring proof that westernization is not the standard recipe for morality, culture and advancement. . Chinese are leading the world for embracing their culture in all ramifications. Mandarin language an emblem of their culture is one of the fast growing language in the world in terms of learners and speakers.. Talk about Chinese mode of governance? is it European or American style Democracy? You foolish Africans who wants to die with democracy, yet having no constitution for or ingredients for democracy are thus in rubble and everlasting backwardness cos u cant think inward and adopt mode of governance that once made Africa great in many centuries back. Do you know anything about African greatness? If you want to talk about science, which China is now successful with, do you think it started in Europe? Or philosophy and religion which are the mother of science started from the West? China today based it's philosophy and governance on the laid down by their ancestors and warrior...Go and read the impact of Confucius on the Chinese philosophy and civilization you fool! Fool! China's system of government came from the Soviet Union. I knew you know nothing chai And I was arguing with you. Japan is a parliamentary democracy based on the Westminster style. Awolowo free education may have been responsible for your poor knowledge of these issues but I will forgive it. Can you tell me what china has invented?? Mobile phones and internet came from US. Planes and automobiles came from Europe. Having an army, navy and air force are western ideas. Dressing in suite are western ideas. You talk of language. Pray tell who doesn't speak their mother tongue in Africa? Swahili is the national language in Kenya. There is a language spoken by most Ghanaians. Nigeria is the only African country without a native national language. Language is not an issue at all. And has nothing to do with westernisation. Religion is also not a factor in westernisation. The main factors of westernisation is dressing well... western style education .... understanding and using modern technology and knowing an international language. Leaving backward culture behind |

IronGalaxy: Lol, A very whitewashed perspective as to be expected. I wasn't taking about India but I was referring to South Africans of Indians lineage, they dress in their Saris and can shop anywhere and anyjow without being bothered why not Africans? You speak as of our culture is something to look down upon
Secondly, this video is just an anomaly. This guy was just feeling himself because of his position, we do dress in our tribal and shop with it especially on heritage day you are allowed to dress in your traditional dress without constituting nuisance. That guy was nude. And it draws us back to a place we prayed our way out of as Africans. Nudity is no culture...it's just a lack of clothing technology in a culture. Every culture had that era. |

If at all you have an iota of African pride or cultural awareness, which is a symbol of identity, you should ask why the management of the Shop had to apologize. You guys are disgusting! senseless, Knows nothing about your father land or legacy...African bastards ni gbogbo yi you are very stupid and I can guess correctly that you are yoruba. You guys are the dregs of society that have refused to modernize... calling yourselves sophisticated while mutilating the faces of your children as a sign of 'culture'. Dirty culture. You guys still believe that you can become rich by mining body parts of fellow humans for wealth. Dirty fools. The Chinese and Japanese that used to be highly cultural people dropped all that and followed a state policy of westernisation. See what they have achieved. They are the only other developed people in the world outside white countries. Forget about Arabs...they would have been as poor as Africa if not for oil. If it was up to me, politicians in our country would only dress in suits to work. Nonsense Compare the business-like demeanor of the Chinese here with the clownish demeanor of the Nigerian senators and their dirty cultural attires. You have the guts to tell me about culture when you are the fool who doesn't know that culture is fluid and not static.

Cassyboy2: Our problem is that we love copying the whites in everything. Ask yourself, what has the whites copied from us? We copied English and dropped our local languages, we copied white wedding and some are dropping our traditional marriage, we copied clothing and wearing native dresses seems inappropriate dressing. But we never copied development of their places rather we copied corruption. They brought religion but we copied the bad religion (where our pastors are driving private jets but members are hungry. Dressing like a 21st century human being is also copying whites? Which owomi school in heebadan are you guys even attending What did the whites copy from Chinese? Compare that to the Chinese who copied everything from the whites and are today highly advanced and threats to the whites. You abokìs, owomis and okoros have refused the black man every chance of being competitive because you feel that unlearning is a negative trait. |

IronGalaxy: Actually, yes. Chinese and Indians do wear their traditional attire to this day . Indian South Africans do wear their Saris even to the boardrooms.
Anyway, what Europeans choose to do in Europe must not be a barometer for us Africans this is a picture of the Chinese general assembly. Do you see how they dressed? Compare it to how their ancestors dressed. I purposely didn't mention India because India just like Africa is refusing modernization. We are already a unique people by the virtue of our skin colour and hair texture...why do we want to further alienate ourselves from the rest of the world by dressing like bushmen because our unexposed ancestors dressed like that? There is nothing rich about the 'culture' this man wants to promote. If he truly wants to live in the past, let him give up his car and phone

Anyway, in civilised societies laws are put in place to protect minorities from the tyranny of the majority. Just because the majority don't like it doesn't make it wrong. do you think it was only our forefathers that wore esoteric attires? This was the way forefathers of the current Europe dressed. Do you see any European dressing like that recently? Why has some Africans refused to move past the 18th century? Do you see Chinese people dressing in their 'cultural' attires today

You may ask me to agree that if the British left Nigeria to its fate, the Northerners would continue their uninterrupted march to the sea, as was prophesied six years ago? My reply is that such an empty threat is devoid of historical substance and that so far as I know, the Eastern Region has never been subjugated by any indigenous African invader. At the price of being accused of overconfidence, I will risk a prophecy and say that, other things being equal, the Easterners will defend themselves gallantly, if and when they are invaded. I like what Zik said here. The north think the east will ever bend over to be fvcked. Their only saving grace is the continued support they receive from the yorubas and UK |
