The concept of average down is double edged sword. You should only use it with investor strategy, not with trading strategy. So have a plan and work the plan. I bought Zenith at 17.5 now it is at 14+ why wouldn't I average down? I have already received N2.8k as dividend or less depending on when I accumulate. The problem with a lot of US is actually risk management, time horizon and margin of safety. You only go to market when there is sales to buy quality stocks at cheap prices, stop loss is not the best option for an investor if you have a good margin of safety in place and your portfolio is well diversified. So there are a whole lot of things to consider while taking position in a stock. If a stock stop performing as an investor you could sell with little loss, margin of safety would help you out because you had already bought it cheaply. 30% gain in two stocks and 20% loss in one still makes you a profit of 40%, which I think is good. Traders must use stop loss., it is better to have seperate funds for investment and trading. The two should not be missed together and apply different strategy in managing them. seyisanya: Another awesome point. Yes, don't get emotionally attached to a stock. But if it's the only stock in your portfolio, then it's only human to get emotionally attached to it. Another reason to diversify! Regarding averaging down, I guess it depends on how it's done. If done properly, you'll come out victorious.
For example: I first bought Nestle at N913, then it went down to N750. I bought, even much more than my initial holdings, then I sold everything last Thursday at N970(intraday). Sweet gain! Other examples are GTB, Zenith, Cadbury. Thanks to proper averaging down, they are all now well above my break-even prices despite high initial purchase cost. Even Warren Buffet averaged down on Delta airlines before selling all his airline stocks. He might not admit it but when you check his moves in March and thereafter, what he did will become clearer. |

Merger with Diamond bank could be the reason for some of these highlights. I always feel for our brothers and Sisters which this bank would make to suffer again. It is well  Coolcash1: My take on Access Bank 2019 personnel cost;
I just did an analysis of the bank’s personnel cost and realized that the cost went up by 35% compared to 2018. While gross income rose by c.40%, net interest income went up by 59.3%. In effect, the effective upside recorded considering surge in staff cost is just 5% increase in gross income and 24% in net interest income.
Further breakdown of the personnel cost showed that 70 persons were recruited/promoted into management cadre and over 2000 staff recruited in last one year. Thus, number of employees alone last year rose from 3998 to 6553 whilst management increased from 275 to 345.
The cost implication of this distribution is that, Access bank is bottom heavy meaning that if it doesn’t shed weight, efficiency will be eroded and might die natural death with time.
This however does not mean the top management and board should not be touched. There is need for some salary cut and reduction in the number of managers and board directors to complement the gain from the staff reduction.
For instance, I don’t know what the bank is doing with 10 GM, 18 DGM and 33AGM. This is just excess load on the bank’s profitability.
In the end, i think the step that the bank is taking is tough, painful and hard but justified. However, as a modification, it should consider salary reduction, rather than send over 4900 staff into the labour market to further worsen unemployment in the country.
Also, beyond top management pay cut, the bloated perks enjoyed by them should be reduced drastically as part of the rescue plan. |

See, here under dont hold any water It is too subjective my friend. OakPearl: UACN will pay me handsomely as projected before investing in it. All projections and permutations regarding the released result were all expected. The only new thing is they went ahead to pay dividend of 10kobo. This was not expected in the 2019 financial performance so has passed as an awoof. The management has been brave enough to proceed with publishing their results and stuck to the plan from last year. If you bought for long term like some of us, don't be deceived into selling off now. It's a natural reaction to the dividend payment. Buy from sellers if it becomes ridiculously cheap. We are in end of April, the date for the unbundling is closer than ever. This same market will respond appropriately.
I can't speak for those who bought for jijo though. |

Well, I could have waited for someone for your post and review b/4 buying DS today? DS on longterm radar and short term is very good. 1. Backward integration with savanah Sugar 2. Yet to declare dividend. ( Consistent payer) 3. Price is relatively cheap with a stock that use to do up to N21- 24. 4. For the merger I expect bigger valuation with no dillution because Savanah Sugar shares were cancelled. I wish I have more money, I would long. Please DD advised. 9jatriot: Who can do a small review for Afripud Dangsugar Buacement
