TV/Movies › Re: Do Nigerians Really Know 'good' Movies? by semid4lyfe(m):
Finished watching IJE: The Journey this afternoon so I had to revive this thread to post my comments.

# Genny's delivery & acting wasn't the best *euphemism*. It's like she isn't comfortable expressing herself in English. She didn't flow and sounded scripted and rehearsed to me like she was trying hard to remember her lines.

# Omotola's performance was better and more convincing. Still, the best Nigerian performances IMO were the girls who played Genny & Omo-T at a young age and Clem Ohaneze who played their father.

# Transitioning between scenes wasn't always smooth and it was a bit jarring in some instances.

# The Court-room dialogue and drama which ought to have been the highlight of the movie, spiced it up and brought the movie to life sucked big-time. Arguments of both sides were weak and unconvincing. Murder trials are always explosive stuff, fun & exciting to watch but this wasn't. . . .

It didn't even look & sound like an American court trial as some of the "lingo" and expression of the characters was "UnAmerican". Well, maybe na becos I don too watch Boston Legal, The Practice, Suits and other Law Dramas and the portrayal of US court trials in these TV Dramas is exaggerated and unreal.

Overall, it's a good movie in terms of production quality but it had weak story, poor dialogue, was characterized by not too good performances AND it was paced too damn slow. I couldn't help looking at the run-timer while watching it.

5/10

*The making of the movie is far more interesting than the movie itself. Also, I love Chineze's voice. It's husky cool*

Remarks By the House of Representatives Speaker, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, At The Special Session Of The House Of Representatives To Honour The Victorious National Football Team, The Super Eagles, The 2013 African Soccer Champions, On Wednesday 13th February 2013.

Protocols
:

On behalf of all my colleagues, the Honourable Members of the House of Representatives and indeed the entire good people of Nigeria whom we represent, I hereby formally welcome to this hallowed Chambers, the irrepressible Champions of African Soccer and the latest continental football Champions of the world-the Super Eagles of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

2. This Special Session holds today to relish, cherish, celebrate and honour you for this uncommon achievement that no doubt marks a new beginning in the annals of Nigerian Soccer and the rebirth of our national pride and global image in this round leather game.

3. I know that we speak the minds of the Nigerian people if we state here that since Sunday the 10th February 2013 when you lifted the revelled Trophy, the African Cup of nations in far away South Africa, you literally lifted the spirit of the Nation and altered the focus from that of a slumbering giant consumed in the lamentations of hopelessness over the longative fate of an unenviable catalogue of failures that had befallen it to that of renascence in the thread of self confidence and success of yesteryears that nurtured our collective national pride.

4. Your achievement is uncommon and outstanding on several accounts: firstly, when you left the shores of this nation, a few weeks ago only handful optimists gave you any chance of progressing beyond the preliminaries of the competition but you wide through in style humbly one after the other, the big boys of African Soccer and today we celebrate not only a trophy but Trophies-the fair play, the highest goal scorer and the mother of them all, the African Champions Cup. Secondly this marks the first time that the nation is lifting the cup under the midwifery of an entirely indigenous coaching crew led by an indigenous coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi.

5. To me, and i believe for many Soccer loving Nigerians, it is only now that we can truly say that we have come of age in the game and never again shall we go cap in hand on a recruitment drive for foreign coaches. All we need do is to replicate Keshis, the Amokachis, the Siasias and others, thirdly we did not loose a single game throughout, the competition indeed the bigger the team, the more convincingly we beat them and when I say we, I mean the Super Eagles for that is what we all are today.

6. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, a bunch of youths have proven beyond any doubt that there is still hope for Nigeria and this hope is on the enterprising sport of her youth. This victory is a lesson, in self confidence rather than arrogance, a lesson in self respect, a lesson in shear doggedness, a lesson in personal sacrifice in the promotion of national interest, a lesson is unmitigated passion and above all a lesson in unity of purpose-for we prayed as much in our churches are we did in our mosques and the Almighty God honoured this spirit of unity. I only hope that henceforth, we shall not depart from this path.

7. Fellow Nigerians, as we bask in the euphoria of this victory we must quickly remind ourselves that the task ahead is more daunting. We seek not merely to be African Champions because that much we have been twice before, but seek to be the greatest. Our goal therefore must be to overtake whatever achievements in this continental soccer competition attained by other nations. In this regards, let us remind ourselves that Egypt has lifted the Trophy 7 times, Ghana and Cameroun have done so 4 times each and all these three countries have lifted the Trophy thrice back to back. I therefore charge us all that for a start this trophy must not leave the shores of this great nation in the next 5 editions of the competition so that we shall not only have lifted it for the most number of times but become the first nation to lift it 6 times back to back. Only then shall we proclaim that we the greatest.

8. This is doable not just in the field of soccer or sports but indeed in all spheres of human endeavour in our march to greatness as a nation-those who believe this say aai--

9. On behalf of the House of Representatives I promise that we shall do all within our competence to ensure that never again shall we be found slumbering as a nation.

10. Once again I congratulate the Super eagles and the entire Coaching Crew and officials for this gift of reawakening, may your zeal, passion and enterprising spirit never wave and may this fire of national reawakening burn henceforth forever.

11. Thank you and congratulations Nigeria

@ SimonAndal, why would you download DVDScr Quality version of Zero Dark Thirty (2.38GB) and Argo (1.37GB) when there are DvDrips and BRrips (720p & 1080p) versions respectively of these same movies with far lesser sizes? undecided

If na 1080p BRRip versions, e for make sense but DVDScr quality version with those enormous sizes, Puhlease!

The 720p BRrip version of Argo has been online for like 2 weeks now and it's only 750MB/800MB. The 1080p BRRip 5.1CH version is 1.6GB.

Zero Dark Thirty is only in DVDScr but there's a very good watchable version which is just 650MB in size and the best thing is all these movies can be gotten from regular non-torrent sites where you can download with IDM so there won't be clogging of system resources.

You're wasting bandwith, time and resources IMO.

Education › Husband & Wife Bag PhD From UNILAG On The Same Day by semid4lyfe(op): 3:55am On Feb 12, 2013

A married couple, Olusegun Samuel and his wife, Temitope Samuel stole the show at the 50th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Lagos where they made history by becoming the first couple to bag doctorate degrees on the same day at the institution.

While Samuel did his PhD work on Marine Ecology, with a focus on Ecotoxicology- the study of how poison and chemicals affect the ecosystem, his wife focused on Dermatophyte, a group of fungi that causes skin diseases.

Samuel who joined UNILAG as a lecturer in the Faculty of Science in 2007 met Temitope at the same institution and they got married in May 2010. Temitope on the other hand, obtained her first and second degrees at UNILAG. They are blessed with a child but decided not to have another until they complete their PhD programmes, Temitope told Punch.

“We decided that we were not going to mix pleasure with business. The two don’t go together. Why should we have another baby so soon? When we got married on May 1, 2010, we both agreed on what would happen before we started our PhD programme. But now, the programme is over, we can return to that,” she said.

They said it took them a lot of hard work, sleepless nights, and huge financial resources to complete the programme.

“It took a lot of sacrifice. But since we were both involved, we were able to manage our time. Whenever I was not at home, my wife would be there. Again, at times, we worked so late on the campus that we did not get home until 11.00pm,” Samuel told Punch.

He added that he is proud of his wife’s achievement and doesn’t feel threatened by it. “It is what we both agreed to do. I don’t feel threatened that my wife has attained the same academic feat with me. It is for the benefit of the family.”

They don’t intend to stop at a PhD but plan to pursue their post-doctoral works.

“Definitely, getting a PhD is not the end. The next thing is to pursue post-doctoral works outside the country, because there is no facilities for such in Nigeria. Then, there is the need to get our findings published in a reputable journal. For some, it costs about $500 to get published. Some may say they want to publish it free, but it may take more than two years to get published. For two years, they may tell you that they are still studying your findings,” Samuel said.

Their achievement is indeed admirable and we wish them the very best.
