afam4eva: That film was rubbish. It's far from entertaining. I wonder when the likes of Kelani, the producer of figurine(i've forgotten his name) will start making entertaining movies. They prefer to stick with educating the public and often forget that they're supposed to be entertaining at the same time.

Figurine was rubbish and it wasn't entertaining? Chei, wetin I nor go read for Nairaland. Na people like this dey trip for wack films like Omo Ghetto, Jenifa etc

TV/Movies › Re: Movies With The Most Surprising/twisted Endings by semid4lyfe(m): 2:06pm On Nov 13, 2011*

Was about to mention The Figurine but someone's done that already. I love movies that have ''open endings'' that are subject to the viewer's interpretation. I mean, the story doesn't have an ending, it just sorts of hangs there unfinished Imagine seeing Figurine at the cinema, enough talking points & argument after the movie and on the drive home. . . .hehehehe

Another Nigerian movie with an ending that I like is Thunderbolt-Magun. The movie doesn't answer the question whether magun is real or just a myth but leaves you to your belief & resolve it for yourself

As per Oyinbo film, I love the ending of Last Night starring Kiera Knightely, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes & one guy wey I nor remember hin name. The movie was a bit drab but the ending though not twisted more than makes up for it. Only intelligent folks will understand the significance of Kiera Knightely's shoes on the floor when she and her husband hugged at the end . . .Brilliant piece of storytelling IMO

Sports › Nigeria Vs Bostwana - Super Eagles Friendly - (0 - 0) On Sat 12th November 2011 by semid4lyfe(mod): 8:34pm On Nov 11, 2011

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will step out for the first time after their ''October 8'' misadventure against AFCON 2012 bound Botswana in an International Friendly on Saturday 12th November @ the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

The Super Eagles go into this game with quite an impressive run of just a defeat in nine games this year irrespective of the fact that they will be missing from Africa’s biggest football competition.

But the Nigerian seniors are on a three-game streak of no wins in games against Argentina (1 – 3), Guinea (2 – 2) and Ghana (0 – 0).

Although this is not Keshi's first experience in the Super Eagles setup, this will be his first match as HNIC of the team and he's acknowledged that the match is important and he'll like get off to a winning start on Saturday.

Nigeria, ranked number 44 in the world by Fifa, will miss the like of John Mikel Obi, Peter Osaze Odemwingie and Obinna Nsofor, who have pulled out of the game due to injuries.

However, the Zebras have emerged as one of the surprise packs on the continent after reaching the AFCON as Group K winners in the qualification ahead of sides like Togo and Tunisia.

Since July 1, 2010, Botswana have suffered just two defeats in 15 matches and a Nigerian-born Professor Ignatius Ugo Onyewadume, who is the team’s fitness trainer, have shared in much of the team’s success.

The match between the Super Eagles and their Botswana opponents will be live on SuperSport from 5pm Nigerian time on Saturday

So who wins?. . . .Drop your comments even if na yabis and vote in the poll

Page Eight [2011] . . .a light-weight ''espionage-political'' thriller in the mould of The Ghost Writer.

Deep, intelligent, mature, solemn, quietly intense film with meaningful dialogue and very convincing performances by the cast. Only minus for me was the ending which left some lose ends IMO. Still, it's an interesting & well made movie and I liked it - 7/10

Valkyrie [2008]. . I love this movie more & more every time I watch it - 8/10

TV/Movies › Re: What Was The Last Movie You Watched - Part 2 by semid4lyfe(m): 9:50pm On Nov 07, 2011

A Little Bit of Heaven [2011]. . .a romantic drama.

very simple plot, was easy to follow and one could tell the end from the beginning. You could skip this movie every 5mins, be done with it in 30mins and you still get the full picture. As simple as the story was, the movie was flat, boring at times and struggled to be interesting. Only thing I liked about the movie was that it didn't dwell on the disease - 4.5/10

The Silence of the Lambs [1991]. . .a crime/horror thriller.

Takes some time to build up like most investigative crime thrillers but gets really interesting from the point Clarice & Hannibal meet and begin their sparring & ''quid pro quo'' exchange and the viewer gets hooked.

Good plot, well scripted dialogues & interaction between characters, convincing performances etc etc I'll rate it a 8/10

Sports › Re: Central Bank Plans To Invest In Soccer Development by semid4lyfe(mod): 1:34pm On Nov 07, 2011
A central bank, reserve bank, or monetary authority is a public institution that usually issues the currency, regulates the money supply, and controls the interest rates in a country. Central banks often also oversee the commercial banking system of their respective countries. In contrast to a commercial bank, a central bank possesses a monopoly on printing the national currency, which usually serves as the nation's legal tender

The primary function of a central bank is to provide the nation's money supply, but more active duties include controlling interest rates (monetary policy), and acting as a lender of last resort to the banking sector during times of financial crisis. It may also have supervisory powers, intended to prevent banks and other financial institutions from reckless or fraudulent behaviour.
Hehehehe. . .only in Nigeria

SLS and by extension the Central Bank should concentrate on the above and stop poking his/it's nose where it doesn't belong. Soccer development my yansh. . . .

The Spiderwick Chronicles [2008]. . . .small pikin film. Kinda reminded me of Jumanji - 4.5/10

Hum Tum [2004]. . .a Bollywood romantic drama starring Saif Ali Khan & Rani Mukerji. Movie dragged a bit but it was interesting and the lead pair gave convincing performances. Found it incredible both didn't realize they were in love but I'm happy the movie ended the way it did - 7/10

The Shawshank Redemption [1994]. . .very simple but brilliant prison drama which encompasses themes of friendship, hardship, hope and dreams. Convincing performances all round and Morgan's narrative voice added something special to it - 9/10

Abduction [2011]. . .an action thriller starring Taylor Lautner and Lily Collins. Don't know if the makers of this movie were gunning for the ''teenage'' twilight fans cos Lautner's acting sucked and casting him was a mistake IMO. Lily Collins performance was just a notch above his own.

Also, plot was weak & predictable and I'm sure I've seen this movie before. . .only under another name. Only good thing about this movie was it wasn't boring - 4.5/10

Gone Baby Gone [2007]

It has that ''shock factor'' just like Arlington Road. Never suspected Doyle (Morgan Freeman) was part of the plot to kidnap Amanda from the beginning.

Not sure if Patrick made the right decision by calling the cops to arrest Doyle and return Amanda to her mother. . . and to think his babe left him cos of that decision.

Very good movie. . .8.5/10 kiss

I doubt there is any country that pays more in terms of match bonus to players than Nigeria.

Hmmm. . .Funke Akindele sure knows how to work the press cos I can't believe the publicity and awards Jenifa got and it seems the Return of Jenifa is heading in the same direction.

Anyway, it still doesn't change the fact that Jenifa was WACK and I expect the Return of Jenifa to be WACKER.

Love Wedding Marriage [2011] - a romantic comedy about a marriage counselor whose counseling practice & views on marriage are put to the test when she discovers her parents are getting divorced . . . .4.5/10

Your Love Never Fails [2011] - a made-for-tv family drama with a christian tilt. Sweet movie, the kind you watch with a smile on your face throughout. . . .5.5/10

LAGAAN - ONCE UPON A TIME IN INDIA [2011] - a Bollywood historical drama starring AAMIR KHAN, Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley & Paul Blackthorne. Movie is almost 4hrs (3hrs45min) and I had planned to watch it over 2 or 3 days but from the minute I started, I never took my eyes off my PC screen. Like Rokiatu, I can't believe this movie didn't win the Oscar for Best Foreign Film

Movie is BRILLIANT and it makes other Bollywood blockbusters & critically acclaimed films like My Name is Khan, 3 Idiots, Gaijini, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham, Fanaa etc seem like amateurish ventures.

If you haven't seen this movie, please do so and come back to thank me Make I SMS here and limit my remaining comments to the scorecard - 9/10

Bodyguard [2011] - a Bollywood action+comedy movie starring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Movie is actually the 2nd remake of Director Siddique's 2010 Malayalam movie with the same name.

Never saw the original Malayalam film but having seen the Tamil language remake (Kavaalan The Bodyguard [2011] ) and finding it okay, I expected the Hindi language remake of the movie to be better particularly with Siddique directing it and Salman Khan & Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles BUT alas the opposite was the case.

Nothing positive about this movie 3/10

TV/Movies › Re: What Was The Last Movie You Watched - Part 2 by semid4lyfe(m): 8:37pm On Oct 30, 2011

Hehehehe . . . .on this same site, others have given some critically acclaimed films like Forest Gump, Slumdog Millionaire, Crash etc poor ratings and heaven did not fall. I wonder why MY rating for Drive is giving some people high blood pressure and stirring up a storm?

@ topic
Kavaalan The Bodyguard [2011] - a Tamil language action & romance Indian movie starring Asin (the lady from Ghaijini) and one unpopular actor like that. . .at least I don't know him

Movie gets really interesting after the intermission and the twist at the end was so unexpected & shocking. It's a decent movie & worth a 6. _{I understand there's a 2011 Hindi language re-make of the movie titled Bodyguard starring Salman Khan & Kareena Kapoor. Make I go watch that one cos I know it'd be better}

Margin Call [2011]. . .kinda slow but it was riveting and managed to stay interesting throughout cos of the very good dialogue and performance of the cast.
A 6/10 IMO.

White Wedding [2006] - South Africa doesn't produce too many films but the few they release are decent. . . 5.5/10. On a mission to download & watch Tsotsi now. . . . .

Se7en [1995]. . .an investigative crime thriller starring Morgan Freeman & Brad Pitt. To cut a long story short, they don't make films like this anymore. Easily a 9 for me

Letters To God [2010]. . .a Christian movie about a young boy with terminal cancer who writes letters to God and was able to inspire & affect the lives of people who came in contact with him positively.

Sweet, saddening, inspiring but a bit too melodramatic, preachy and focused on God IMO. Still, it's a good watch. . .6/10
