Discouraging importation is a bad idea. Value chains are global. Top exporting countries import their raw materials from countries that can sell them at the lowest price. If you discourage imports, your cost of materials will be high, and your export products will be too expensive to sell internationally and will contribute to inflation by being more expensive locally. Dangote is importing crude oil from the US because it's the most cost-effective source for him right now. This will ensure that the petrol he refines will be cheap enough to sell/export and make a decent profit. If we hypothetically discouraged him from importing crude oil by charging high tariffs, his petrol would be more expensive. We have to import raw materials from the cheapest sources internationally, process them cost-effectively, and then export our finished products at competitive prices. There is nothing you want to produce that doesn't require importation. Even farming needs imported fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides, heavy equipment, spare parts, seeds, etc. If we want to be an exporting nation, we should have low import tariffs and no export tariffs, like Singapore You might say that we should have low tariffs for raw materials and high tariffs for finished products. That's not as bad as the current reality of high tariffs for raw materials in an attempt to encourage exportation of raw materials, but it is also a mirage. One man's "raw material" or input is another man's finished product. Apple laptops and iPhones looks like finished luxury products, but to a programmer developing iOS apps, they're compulsory "raw materials" for production. The more expensive they are, the more difficult it will be for our youths to make clean money by becoming iOS developers. Import tariffs or restrictions on grains would on the surface seem to help farmers, but they hurt feed mills, poultry farmers, bakeries, breweries, food processors, consumers who have to pay more for their products, and food exportation. The top 3 exporting nations in the world are China, USA, and Germany. They are also the top 3 importing nations. The thinking of "imports bad, exports good" that leads to import substitution policies is primitive and outdated in the global village. India, which does import substitution, can't compete with China, which imports & exports. |
I hereby apologize to Nairalanders for allowing my focus to shift away from Nairaland. It happens when I'm not getting enough cooperation. |
I've promised to create a Christianity section this year. |
Nairaland is closest to Reddit. |
I'm here. |
How many times should we tell you people that the exchange rate system is managed and not floating? I'm tired of all the misinformation. |

How is your Eskimo Ekuke doing? |
Kimcutie:What is submission in this context? |
The idea that every woman in every marriage should be submissive offends me. No one should be allowed to demand for that. Anyone who is truly submissive will surely be taken advantage of. When I love someone, the last thing I want to do is to try to subjugate/infantilize them. I feel so sad when women are talking about the "struggle" to achieve submissiveness in their marriage because of some ancient religious texts. I want a strong partner. I don't want a subordinate. I don't want an unpaid domestic employee. Equality in diversity is the way to go, in my view. |
I'm happy that women are engaging with this thread, even if it is to express their displeasure. That's what this section needs. At least they know that whatever they have to say will not be dismissed or attacked unfairly on this thread, because someone who is fair-minded is watching it. I have observed a difference between the way that young women and young men respond to gifts. I'm not sure that it applies to older people. My female friends often tell me what other men are doing for them as if they expect me to join an expensive competition for their attention. It seems clear that the way young men chase young women makes them feel entitled to receive gifts. Making it difficult to appreciate every gift. It's just an observation that I made from my life, and I wanted to see if other people have had the same experiences or if I'm completely wrong. |
I promise to deal with the situation but I need trustworthy helpers who aren't lying to me or trying to trick me. |
Myer:They are. They have known for at least two decades. They love to make me join their prayers whenever I meet them. |
Fellow Nairalanders, This is to inform you that I'm recognizing Justwise as the best section moderator of the year 2023. Unlike most sectional mods, he has been keeping his section clean without any micromanagement. The travel section has helped many people to learn how to travel out to study or to work. Thank you, Justwise. |
You have decided to disrespect your man by looking to other men for attention while you're living with him, because you feel he is not meeting your needs. In your mind, the relationship is over, but you won't admit it to yourself. The red pill exposed men don't respond well to emotional control. They prefer blunt and honest communication. Stop playing "boju boju" with him. Tell him what you need, and why, and stop trying to play games of witholding physical and emotional affection to punish/control him. The things you're doing sound as if you're done with him but you still want to enjoy the benefits. It's not healthy and cannot last. If you like him, forsake the other men, and start communicating and negotiating your needs more bluntly with him so he can provide them. If witholding sex doesn't work, stop doing it. If the silent treatment doesn't work, stop doing it. You can't be doing the same thing and expect different results. Some men don't like to play games. Say how you feel when he does certain things. Be direct and honest. Repeat yourself if necessary. Socially, focus on him, female friends, and the people you're related to by blood. Stop the emotional cheating with other men. If you want to leave him, leave him. If you don't want to, then you need to start behaving like a grown woman. |
Welcome back!! |
www.nairaland.com/webmasters is Sysadmin focused. What do you think of it? |
RightChanneI:This verse isn't saying that atheists are fools. It is actually accusing "fools" (evildoers) of being closeted atheists. It's actually saying that bad people do the things they do because they secretly don't believe in God. So, the view is that all "fools" are atheists, which doesn't mean that all atheists are "fools". I hope you find the distinction to be significant. |

Justdare:It will happen because right now they are suppressing investigations into the failures that led to the October 7 attack. When more information comes out about the extent to which the govt failed at all levels during official investigations, Netanyahu will have to go. Netanyahu's no Gree for Palestinians philosophy has been helped by the Hamas attack, but his viability as a politician is gone. His Likud party has sunk in the polls. Even the West wants him gone. 2. It is almost impossible to achieve this. Israel has the 4th largest military in the world and Hamas did not need any sophisticated equipment to infiltrate. They came in paragliders. It was as simple as standing on any tall building in Palestine and jump into Israel. They had machine guns on the fence which could have shot down the paragliders, but the machine guns and the telecoms infrastructure used to deploy them were vulnerable to simple drones that dropped grenades on them. They knew that the Palestinians were planning to use drones to disable their defences for a whole year and failed or chose not to adequately fortify them. |

Printing money makes it less valuable and leads to inflation. Also, we need foreign currency to import stuff and they can't print foreign currency. |
We need an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Discussion Thread where all things AI can be discussed. |
